Problems reading PDF Files and or Word Documents and when purchased this I had Word on this computer?

I need help I had just recently purchased a program to help solve issues on my computer From Reimage and they still have not fixed the problems that I am having and I am no computer wiz and need help.

You need Adobe Reader to read PDF files.
You need MS Office to open Word docs. If you don't have then
LibreOffice is one of your best bets.

  • Is anybody having problems reading PDF files

Having a problem reading PDF files. Is there a workaround?  Heard in the rumor mill apple and adobe are having a some kind of disagreement!!!

    What exactly is your problem?
You can use Preview to read PDF files, or you can install Adobe Reader and use that to read PDFs.

  • Problems reading PDF files with i Pad and Mac with 10.8.3 Mountain Lion OS

I assume InDesign uses the Acrobat XI resources to generate the exported PDFs.
I have many 1-7 page articles from which I created PDFs via the export function in ID. They all read OK on PC/Apple/Linux based computers.
I assembled all of the articles into one 50 page document in ID and again exported the large file as a PDF.
Several of the articles inside the large document now exhibit problems when viewed on an i Pad or a Mac running OS 10.8.3 (Mountain Lion). PC and Linux do not have this problem.
The problems are, to quote my subscriber: "each paragraph starts with a 'dollar' sign instead of 'Th'. Later the 'Dollar' symbol changes to ' " '. The same thing happens in the Piston Ring article. This doesn't happen on the original PDF files.
Opening the files in Acrobat Pro XI to look for differences does not discover anything although I assume the problem is somewhere in the font files.
    Any suggestions?

I've asked the question about the versions and producers of the PDF reader software he is using. I'll be back when that answer comes in.
I was afraid that Adobe might not use code identical to Acrobat Pro XI to generate PDFs in InDesign. I may have to 'print' to Acrobat and see if that generates a trouble-free PDF.

  • Problem reading pdf files

I’m having trouble opening some recent pdf files with Adobe Reader.  This is a problem that has only happened in the last few weeks.
All my older pdf files open without any problem. However all my more recently downloaded pdf files will not open. I get the message “There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired.”
My computer is running Windows 7 Home Premium with a 64-bit OS and 8 GB RAM and my Adobe Reader is up-to-date (Adobe Reader XI Version 11.0.10).
I have already tried re-installing Adobe Reader and used the help to Repair Adobe Reader Installation but to no avail.
All my pdf files open with Foxit so I don’t think that any are really damaged.
However when I copy text from Foxit to Word letters are occasionally omitted (for example off might appear as of or fire as fie ). This may well be because Foxit is not as reliable as it should be and it happens even with the older files Adobe Reader can open. So I am not happy using Foxit as a solution.

I have found a somewhat lengthy solution:
First open the problem pdf file with Foxit.
Then save it as the same name file in the same place, overwriting the original file.
Now open the new file with Adobe Reader and the problem has gone.
The problem of missing letters when copying text has gone too.
I have no idea why this works.
I would still like to learn of a better solution.

  • Problem reading pdf file on ipad

I emailed a pdf to myself to read on the ipad3. When I click on the file in the email it reads properly. When I use "open in" Adobe Reader or "open in" ibooks the file crashes the program. The file reads properly on my computer (PC) and was downloaded from a reliable publishing house. Any advice?

Resolving this particular “problem” is not necessarily something that can be done with our software, especially if the newspaper in question is simply allowing you to download PDF files of the full broadsheet or even tabloid size pages used for printing. There is just too much content on such newspaper pages, even if just text, to allow for (1) reasonably page-to-page performance and (2) even a passable reading experience in terms of content layout, type size, etc.

  • Problem Reading pdf files sent thru e-mail

I saved some software output prints to pdf files (software has option for saving to pdf) and e-mailed to a co-worker.  I can see and print fine from my hard drive but recipient got only dots on the pages.  Should have been numbers and text.  I have Adobe 8.1.2.  Do you have any idea why this happened or what to do?  Thanks.

Some email servers corrupt PDF files because they use the wrong encoding for them. Try zipping them up before sending them.

  • Problem reading PDF files after the latest Adobe update.

Althouigh I think I've followed the Adobe instructions, I continue to get the following error message and can no longer access PDF docs since the most recent Adobe update:
“Before viewing PDF documents in this browser you must launch Adobe Reader and accept the End User License Agreement, then Quit and relaunch the browser”.
And when I try to re-install the reader, my system tells me I already have the latest version of the reader installed...

Uninstall Adobe reader and use Preview instead. Works much better and won't screw up your computer.

  • Can I embed a PDF file within a Pages document?

I am working with Pages '09 and would like to embed a rather long PDF document file into my Pages text.  I want the reader to be able to click on the PDF file and have it open so that the reader can gather more information on the subject without making the actual Pages document text any longer.  I don't want the PDF file to be an external link that sends the reader away from the document -- I want to know if I can embed the PDF file WITHIN the pages document and have it open only when clicked.  I don't think I can do this.  Thanks.
    Small Town Gal.

I found my answer within archived discussions - convert the file to a PDF and then embed the PDF file as an attachment.  Thanks.

  • How do I generate a Word document and a PDF from Help files?

    Hi,
I am new to RoboHelp HTML, and am using version 8.  I updated some Help files, and now I want to generate output.  Here are my questions/ or the process I used:
To compile the help, I clicked Generate Primary Layout.  Is this correct?  I noticed that the date stamp on the xpj file has not changed.  The date is still from many months ago.  (Why is that?  Should it show a recent update date?)  However, the files that I updated do reflect the dates when I made the updates.  These include art files, an hhp, and htm, js, ldb, pss, cpd files.
To generate a pdf, I clicked Generate PDF.  I was not able to generate the PDF at first, but then, I enabled macros in Word 2007 (Trust Center Settings > Enable all macros...and clicked the checkbox, Trust access to the VBA project object model), and clicked Generate PDF.  At the end of the generation, I got this error in Word: Microsoft Office Word has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience.  The info you were working on might be lost.  Word can try to recover it for you.  I closed the dialog and Word generated several blank documents.  Microsoft Office Diagnostics was run and found one problem and corrected it.  Despite the error message, a pdf was generated.  (If you could give me any insight on why I got the error messages, that could be helpful to know).
How do I generate a Word document?
    Thank you!
    Erin

    Welcome to our community
Note that RoboHelp is capable of creating a variety of layouts. WebHelp, FlashHelp, AIR Help, Microsoft HTML Help, JavaHelp, Oracle Help, ePub and more.
Any of these layouts may be nominated as the Primary layout. So when you generate the Primary layout, you get whatever has been configured as the Primary layout.
Only certain actions will result in a change to the .XPJ file. The actions are indicative of major changes to the project. So I wouldn't fret the fact that the date time stamp wasn't updated.
Indeed the Printed Documentation Single Source Layout recipe is what you use to create PDF. Generally what happens is that RoboHelp creates a Microsoft Word document as an intermediate file type, then creates the PDF from that. As you might imagine, there are a host of things that can go wrong during the process. I might suggest that you first get a Word document to generate cleanly. Then once you do that, focus on PDF. I know that I typically gen a Word document and stop there. I just open Word and use Word to create the PDF.
If you look at the properties for the Printed Documentation Single Source Layout recipe (View > Pods > Single Source Layouts then right-click the Printed Documentation layout and choose Properties) you will see that PDF, Word or both are options at the top of the dialog.
Hopefully that gives you a nudge in the right direction.

Hi There:  I am having a problem where pdf files on the web (i.e., links in a Word doc) open after an extended time and only as gobbldygook ( a file containing a series of characters and letters that make no sense).  This also happens for another Mac user coworker in my office, while the PCs don't have this problem...  Any help/suggestions for a fix would be most appreciated!

Just adding more info - MacBookPro running 10.5.8 and using Safari as the browser.  The problem comes and goes - sometimes the linked Word files will open OK, n others its just a strring of crazy characters...

  • Creating pdf files from word document and allow copying of content

I generate word documents and then save them in PDF format before sending out to clients.  Sometimes these documents contain quite a lot of data in table format and I want my clients to be able to copy the data from the tables and be able to paste it into excel.  How do I save as PDF and still allow copying of content?
    Thanks

Open such a PDF in Adobe Reader: File | Properties | tab Security.  It will tell you if copying is allowed or not.
I don't know if you can change these security options from Word; you'll have to ask Microsoft.  To change them after the PDF was created, you will need Acrobat.

  • I removed chrome 10 and newly installed FF4 final, and I can't read PDF files within the browser. There was no problem in Chrome.

I removed chrome 10 and newly installed FF4 final, and I can't read PDF files within the browser. There was no problem in Chrome. I can't even see the acrobat reader plugin in the plugins page. Acrobat 10 is already installed in my PC. Every time I try to read a PDF file on the web, FF tries to download it instead.

As recommended above by Bernd Alheit, I posted this on the Adobe Reader forum. There, I received the advice to repair the installation under the help menu, which I did and it fixed the problem.
Similar to your solution but found it's a fix found under "HELP" menu and not Add/Remove.
    Thank you.
