Problems reconnecting media with Canon C300 MXF files

Working from Canon C300 MXF files imported into up to date premiere cc (not sure if through the media browser or through the import function). We have three stations working (one AE station and two edit bays) but only two stores of the media so we've been backing up the media onto a third drive so our other editor can work. No problems with the first editor station and AE station, they both have all the media. Our third station however...
Basically the issue we're having is certain files won't reconnect to their MXFs, even though we've maintained the file structure and all associate canon files in their folders. We're getting diagonal shading across the clips in the timeline as well as the little triangle in the corner of the clip that signifies it's the end (and sometimes beginning) of the media. When we try to play those clips they are just a black screen. But when we try to match frame, it'll bring up the clip in the viewer and play fine. The media is not technically "offline," just not playing. When I try to reconnect the media I have to make it offline first and then reconnect but continue to have the same problem. It seems like an issue with merging the spanned clip across multiple .mxf files because there's no issue with clips that are not spanned. I tried isolating the individual clips from the .xml files that tell premiere to merge them and they reconnect fine up until the end of that file and then I've got diagonal lines for the rest of the clip again. I've tried everything I can think of and we're wasting so much money on this second editor not being able to work on anything because of this. Any insight would be most appreciated.

Ah I see, I read through your link, I get that reverting could help except that all our other stations are running 7.2.2 so we'd have incongruity between stations. Whats strange is the other two stations are running fine, no problems. It's just with this other station that doesn't have all the media that's having the issue.

  • Problem importing canon c300 mxf files into Premiere Pro CC 2014

I recently shot some footage with a c300 at 24fps, slog2, 2 audio chanels. I copied the "contents" folder of each cf card to my macbook pro hard drive by dragging across in finder.
When I search from within Premiere Pro's media browser for my files, they show up only as VLC icons, and when I click to import them, I get an error message along the lines of 'unsupported format or damaged file".
I can double click the files in finder and they open in VLC fine.
I'm running the latest version of Prem Pro, Yosemite on my macbook pro which has 2.8ghz i-7 processor, NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2048 MB graphic card.
Does anyone know why this is happening?

You could try to convert your XAVC MXF files into MPEG, then load them again , but the new codec may not be well handled by some converters.

  • Is the prores file that FCPx creates when importing c300 .mxf files stable/quality enough to then copy to other drives for further use? Are there any quality disadvantages to doing that?

Im wondering if I can directly copy the prores files fcpx creates when importing c300 .mxf files from the "original media" folder, reimport them for another project to and use them that way. Is there any problem with working that way? I'm doing this bc I want to have an organize finder structure for a client but cant break the c300 card structure to split clips on a card into different "scenes" to make it easier for them to understand what they're looking at. This is all to stay NLE nuetral--we like fcpx but they might want to edit somewhere else and more details in the finder level seems like the best solution? Suggestions on any of that? Thanks.

Thanks for your response. Are you sure that FCPx is working with .mxf/c300 natively? I thought it was just a background sort of repackaging or transcode into prores that it does without you having a choice? And bc of that, for me, it's sort of a "back end" feeling file: I'm curious if it's bad to get into the package contents folder to copy it over? Not about copying prores in general-- specifically, is the prores created of c300 footage in fcpx more of a fcpx, high quality alias file? Maybe I'm just feeling a little uncomfortable grabbing things from the inside/finder level of fcpx.

  • Native import of C300 MXF files?

    Hello,
recently, I started using Speedgrade CC, which seems a great piece of software. Whatsoever I am working most of the time with the Canon C300 and I have problems importing the native C300 MXF files into Speedgrade. Basicaly, the MXF files don´t work in Speedgrade.
Is there a solution with transcoding the material?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
MXF format is not supported in SpeedGrade. You have to transcode the material (i.e. to a DPX sequence) to load it.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks.

  • A problem was encountered with one of the files in TestStand\AdapterSupport\LabVIEW directory

When looking at the module for a LabVIEW VI being called from TestStand, I get the following message:
A problem was encountered with one of the files in TestStand\AdapterSupport\LabVIEW directory.  Please reinstall it or repair it.
I made the mistake of cleaning up C: in my computer.  Cleaning C:\National Instruments Downloads
Why would someone put bits of applications or modules, etc in such a directory?
I am not too crazy about restoring 11GB back into that folder.  That's just insane!
Has anyone encountered this before?  Any "easy" solutions? apart from re-installing TS...
Side note:  I did not touch anything in the \Program Files|National Instruments\TestStand\AdapterSupport\LabVIEW
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Thanks PH,
I also had that.  Fixed it.
I will not remove the ones in the NI downloads folder.
I will eventually need to remap everything to the appropriate drive.
    I partition the drives into:
C:\     Windows and associated folders.  Mostly OS stuff
E:\     Applications (this is where it will end up)
    F:\     Files
    G:\    Storage
    H:\    Backups
I try to do what I normally implement in Linux.  I hate sharing the OS with everything else.
    Cheers,

Please describe the workflow that is not working for you and tell us something about your system. Dynamic Link should work fine. A google search for C300 Adobe Workflow brings up articles from Able Cine on importing and several other resources indicating what to do to make things work properly and avoid crashes.
Is your CC up to date? Have you checked the first 3 resources from a Google search?

  • Problem with Canon G12 RAW file

I'm very disappointed because I can't use Lightroom with my new camera! I have this issue since LR 3.3. and CR 6.3 started to support Canon G12's raw file. Any raw file is decoded incorrectly, picture is grained, it has a lot of noise at any ISO (even 80 or 100). The defect is noticeable only at 100% zoom, not at 50% or other sizes.
I tried to do also a clean installation of LR 3.4.1 and CR 6.4.1 but the problem persists. (I use LR 64 bit on Windows 7 64 bit; with PS 12.1 64 bit I have the same problem)
Yes, the camera is ok, and with Canon Digital Photo Professional 3.10 all is perfect, the same picture is amazing.
    Is there any solution please?
    Thank you!
    Davide

It may be that DPP knows how much default noise reduction to apply to your G12's raw images and Lightroom doesn't.
Can you adjust LR's noise reduction sliders to get a better image? If so, you could make that amount of reduction a default.
If that doesn't work for you, could you post a sample raw image somewhere that we could bring it into Lightroom and see what you are writing about?

  • Problem with Flip on MXF files...anyone?

    Hello,
I am using PPro CS3 3.1 update that support the MXF files from Panasonic. We shoot with a 35mm Adapter and thus all our footage is recorded upside down. When we apply a horizontal flip and then a vertical flip, we get a flickering line on the top of the footage. It appears the the vertical flip is the culprit. Anyone else experiencing this with MXF files?

I would get that same thing on stills with motion. Sometimes I would use the crop filter with a crop of one pixel. Sometimes it would work and sometimes it wouldn't.

  • CS3: HDR Merge Problem with Canon 50d RAW files

I recently upgraded from a 20D to a 50D.  I'm running CS3 under WinXPpro with 3GB of RAM.  HDR merge of 3 CR2 files is causing CS3 to generate a program error and crash.  This never happened with my older (smaller) files from the 20D.  Anybody know how to fix this?
    TIA,

The suggestion was to try an HDR with smaller 50D sRAWs as an *experiment* to see if the size matters more than the camera model.  Another benefit of a 50D would be the 14-bits per pixel instead of 12-bits and an sRAW would have less noise per pixel than a full-size RAW so using smaller sRAW images might work better than a 20D's.
The "size" being referred to is the dimensions in pixels, not the on-disk size, becasue the in-memory size of an image should be similar whether it comes from a 16-bit TIFF or an 16-bit RAW conversion.
Merging RAWs will involve ACR during the HDR process, whereas merging TIFFs won't unless you have the setting to prefer ACR for TIFFs, too, which you don't indicate.
There can be data in the highlights and especially shadows from a RAW that gets thrown away when it's converted to TIFF, so merging RAWs is better than merging from TIFFs.
I currently have CS4 only on my machine so I forget, but with CS3, does it matter what output size you have set in ACR, when you do an HDR conversion from RAW?  In other words, does HDR using ACR ignore the output size or not?  If not, then perhaps setting a smaller size in ACR (the same area where you set the bit depth and conversion colorspace) would make things work or setting a larger size with 20D images would make them fail.  This is being suggested as a experiment as well, to try to isolate the issue, not necessarily a permanent solution.
I don't think there is anything inherently wrong with a 50D RAW that would make it not work, but the larger size would use more memory and maybe your machine is getting close to some sort of limit.
Other suggestions would be to reset your preferences and check your disk(s) with scandisk and/or change your scratch-disk to somewhere else to make sure there's no some corruption keeping the HDR process from working with the larger 50D images, and along those lines, also try purging your ACR cache or moving it to another drive.  You might also try changing the amount of memory available to Photoshop (ram vs scratch-disk) in the Preferences.
What module does the crash occur in, if the error says?  Is it related to display or something else?

  • Canon C300 MFX files into Premier Pro CC

VERY new to post production, I just want to check to make sure that I am not missing a step somewhere.
I have created a project, then I went to Media Browser and clicked on the individual MFX files. Premier seems to have taken them all into the project with no problem.
I just want to make sure that I am not missing a step, say in the "create a sequence" section. Do I even need to "create a sequence"?
    Thanks,
    Way

Premier Pro will automatically take the MFX files created by the Canon C300 and optimize them when bringing them in through the media browser?
Not quite.  PP doesn't actually do anything but read the media.  But...that's OK because the files don't really need any kind of 'optimizing'.

  • Imported Canon xf305 MXF files keep copying themselves in Premiere Pro CC (October 2014)

Hi. My Adobe Premiere CC keeps getting worse with MXF files. This is a progressing BUG Type problem with each update. As each Premiere update comes out my program behaves even more bizarre.  Upon original import, they're fine. Turn off computer and next day my half hour piece all-of-a-sudden turns into 25 copies of the first 5 minutes. So I delete the rest of the copies and whats left I loose 4/5th of the program. So I input files and they're ok,,, 2 hours later they're no audio on 1/2 of the program, or all of the individual Icons in the files bin have turned into one same picture of the first piece copies 10 or 20 times? Or I edit my footage and the next day I turn on the computer open the program and all my footage is not in the bins or timeline, yet they play perfectly fine on their own in the media drive with another player?
WHAT IS GOING ON WITH PREMIERE? It's Absolutely Unusable?
Old drives? I don't think so, It's a relatively new computer with two (5 month old Solid State Drives) Besides it all works great with another player?

    4. Then I Open PremiereProCC, create a new project and point everything to that project folder on the M (media) drive.
    5. Next I go to media bin within the new project, right-click and choose "Import Media", grab all the new footage and hit open.
    6. The roughly 1 hour project taped at 750p @ 50mps, takes about 1.5 hours to populate into the bin.
    7. Finally I drag all the clips (roughly 10 of them) onto the new timeline, where it takes another roughly 30 minutes to populate onto the timeline.
    Item 4 ..explain "point"
Item 5 ...Media Browser I assume?
Item 6 ...thats far too long and indicates an issue.  Should be maybe a minute and then maybe some pek conforming
Item 7 ...far too long and indicates a problem, Should be virtually  immediate.

  • Reconnect Media - Will only do one file at a time. (all files is checked)

I found one Google search that said this may be a bug... http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/8/1047891 and it's really bothering me since I have about 500 more media files to connect.
When I select multiple files in my Project File Browser, right click, hit Reconnect Media... It opens the Reconnect Files window. Then I hit "Locate", navigate to the folder holding the files (Reconnect All files in Relative Path is checked), select the file, confirm, then hit connect... Only one file (the first one selected) reconnects.
It's worse than that for me, now the file is Connected in my Project File browser, but it still doesn't reconnect in my sequences. So now I have to go in the sequence and right click on the individual clips, and manually reconnect those as well.
At this point it take 6 plus clicks per file missing, times two because I have to reconnect these clips in the sequences as well... times 500 because that's how many offline files I have.
My lord, I've already done this to half of the project, I can't do it any more... where am I going wrong or is this a bug? If so, please tell me there is a workaround.
The file I'm working in is a feature film, so it's huge... I can't start over at this point.
    Thanks for your time!
    -Monty

The only multiple files it will reconnect are the ones that are already connected.
I hope I figured it out but need more advice. It may be that the files that won't connect do not have a visible file extension ".mov". How can I get these files to shoe ".mov" at the end of their names without manually renaming them all?
And the reason this is happening is I was using reference files to edit a movie, now I've been given new hard drives with the final uncompressed footage but same file names for each clip... plus the new hard drives I'm using have different names.
    Thanks for your time!

  • Canon XF300 mxf file conversion

Hello. I have a new Canon MX300. The file format this unit uses is MXF. There are many MXF file conversion software products on the market such as "Pavtube or Borosoft". Basically these convert the MXF files into useable format such as Mpeg or what ever else you desire in a lossless format. Then that file can be utilize in a editing software to create a movie. My question is, instead of having to use the file conversion software can Adobe Premier Elements 12 bypass the conversion step? Does it need a plug in to work. Talking with the GREAT Canon rep today he lead me to believe it would but I wanted to ask the experts here.
    Thanks!

    cdnew1,
Welcome to the forum, and thanks Jeff.
PrPro can natively handle MXF files from the Canon, but I do not know of a way to Import those directly into PrE. There might be an available plug-in, but I do not know of it. Also, with the 3rd party plug-in market, PrE is pretty far down their lists, as it only costs about $100, so the users are not likely going to spend much on a plug-in.
Perhaps others will have some useful tips on handling the MXF files.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Camera Raw 4.4.1 has bug with Canon 40D raw files

I shoot with the Canon 20D, 30D, 40D, 1DMII, and the Rebel XTI. The Raw processor is showing an anomaly only with the 40D files. When I load raw images, and when the image is displayed, it is shown at one setting. Then in 3 seconds, its updated again at about 1/2 stop brighter. Each time I click on another image on the left column, same thing. The new image is displayed, then 3 seconds later, updated at about 1/2 stop brighter. THe histogram reflects the changes showing the data moving to the right. This only happens with the 40D raw files.
    Whats up?
It happens regardless if "Auto" or "Default" is selected. I use "default" as a norm, never letting PS do an auto correction.
How do I stop Camera Raw from doing the second update? This has to stop.
