Problems recording from my camcorder to fcp

Hi
I wonder whether anyone else has experienced this problem and can help?
Due to a shortage of funds I am using my Canon HV30 camcorder to put a voiceover onto my fcp film. This worked fine the first time but now when I try and use it I get the message
'The selected input device is unavailable, it may be in use by another application etc etc.'
I have checked under About this Mac and firewire and my camcorder is present.
I have tried unplugging everything, turning off the imac, removing all the cables and rebooting and then putting all the cables back in.
And starting up fcp with the camcorder already on (and starting up fcp with the camcorder set to off and then putting it on)
Version of FCP is 6.0.4
I have the audio/video settings set to
Seq preset HDV 108050I
Capture present HDV
Device control firewire basic
Under the A/V devices tab I have settings
Playback output none
the different output for edit to tape/print to video box is checked
video HDV 1440x1080) 50i (I'm based in the UK)
Are my settings correct for using my cam as a mic?
I have tried using both camera mode and playback mode to tape - neither work.
If my audio/video settings are correct - should I try trashing the FCP preference files?

Definitely trash your preferences, and see if that helps. Then, read this post about HDV FCP problems!

Hope it helps.

  • Problem recording from external l

I'm new here, I have a SB Audigy 2ZS, and I want to record from external line to my PC.
I use a external mixer to connect cassette, mics, long plays to the PC, and I connect them to SB Audigy from "Input line". And I use the mixer to amplify the PC. When I want to record the "surround Mixer" software thas not permit select a simple record input, it mixer all lines (wave, CD, CD digital, input line).
That produce a terrible feedback. Are there some way to record only from input line, without switch line by line?
    Thanks
    Mduque

Just click on the speaker icon under the volume controls in the mixer. Having said that it is not really necessary as I am unable to detect any hum by leaving them open. I suspect you may need to reinstall the card.

  • Problems importing from DV camcorder

I'm attempting to import videos from few DV tapes into Final Cut Pro X.  Each tape has several clips recorded on it.  Final Cut correctly figures start and end of each clip on the tape, and starts a new file for each clip.  However, it also often cuts a clip at random place into multiple separate files, as if they were separate clips on the tape.  Import of the very first clip from the tape is the worst.  FCP cut first few seconds in bits that each contain few frames, each with ton of noise and drop outs (both audio and video).
If I simply play the tape (either directly on camcorder, or doing preview in FCP's importer), the tape plays perfectly fine.  Problems start only when I hit "import" button.
Looking around, it seems this problem is happening to others as well.  However, I haven't been able to find any solution.  Any hint or help would be greatly appreciated.

Had same problem with random cutting of clips. Solved this by digitally copying problem tape onto a new tape by connecting 2 camcorders together with firewire cable (DV in to DV out). New tape copy imported into Final Cut without a glitch. Problem tape must have had some sort of time code corruption that Final Cut doesn't like.

  • Problem recording from Line-in (Audio Control Pod)... NOT THE TIPICAL OBVIOUS PROBLEM (I think X

    Hi guys!!
I have a little problem and i have think you could help me...
I'm trying to connect my electric guitar to my Audigy 2 ZS... My problem is that i connect the AMPLIFIED output of my guitar to Line-In in Audio Control Pod of my T7700 speakers... I Can hear the what i'm playing from my speakers but I can't record anything... I check all the obviuos things, like I have selected Analog Mixer (Line/CD/TAD/...) from Surround Mixer Tab drivers (Rec tab) and in Control Panel of Windows too. What am i doing bad?...
    Thank you for your help!

May have already been answered, but, hey, what the heck, I've got free time:
Allow me to clarify. Plug your guitar into the Line-In on your <EM>sound card</EM>. Plugging it into your speakers only uses your speakers as an amp.
Then, in Creative Recorder select Line-In as the source.
Speakers, unless they're plugged into the mic jack on your sound card (which they shouldn't be), do not transmit data back to the PC.
EDIT: Line-in is this thingie (( )) with an arrow pointing inside.Message Edited by ghostrecon09 on 02-22-2005 05:4 AM

  • My Mac was upgraded to Snow Leopard. iMovie now have problems importing from SONY camcorder.

This is the first time I hooked up my camcorder since the upgrade.  iMovies shows my videocan with an excalamation mark inside a yellow diamond and bogs down completely.  What is wrong?  I have iLife 2011.  Is there a setting that I missed?

    {quote}Has anyone else had problems importing with this specific model or a related model and if so were you able to fix the problem or find a work around? I guess I could transfer the old Sony movies to my new Canon GL2 and then import into the iMac but that kind of defeats the purpose as I have been repeatedly told how simple and intuitive it is to do things on the iMac.{quote}
I don't have the Sony, but for older tape camcorder's I use a standard DVD recorder and burn the movie to DVD then use [HandBrake|http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/21117] to convert to MPEG-4 for importing to iMovie.

  • Recording from a camcorder directly to a MacBook harddrive - Possible?

    Hi,
I'm trying to find a way to record performances of a show I'm directing onto my MacBook harddrive directly. After looking at options, like recording to DVDs, etc., it seems that the only way I can record something that will be a little over an hour long without interruption is if I record directly onto my harddrive.
I've searched through the forums but all I can see is whether or not a camcorder is compatible with iMovie, which could mean you record with the camcorders standard media first, then download it onto iMovie, and that's not what I'm looking for.
Does anyone have recommendations or information on a camcorder with which I Can record directly onto my MacBook harddrive in a format I can digitally edit (e.g. add title cards, etc.) and that would be priced under $300 CDN? Unfortunately to rent something for 3 nights, it turns out I may as well buy it for that cost.
    Thanks!

No. It needs to go through iTunes on a computer.

  • Best way to record from analogue camcorder

I have just purchased a TV@nywhere Master card with MSIPVS.  My main aim is to transfer my analogue 8mm video tapes into digital format.  I am currently running MSIPVS on an 800mhz P3 and the quality is OK but I had hoped for better.  I have chosen the 'best' setting for recording which uses Mpeg-2 I think and a total bitrate of about 550.  I would like to try to improve the quality, when I try PAL or NTSC DVD quality instead of the default then the video is very jerky and unusable.
    1.  Can anyone suggest how to optimize my video recording (capture) quality so that I know I am getting as good a result as possible?
    2.  I also have a 2.4 Ghz Pentium 4 which I could use, I had originally  thought that the card would provide the high quality video, would using the much faster machine make a difference?
I would appreciate an answer from anyone who has knowledge of these issues.
    Thanks,
    Conley (Cape Town, South Africa)

The jerkiness sounds like you're dropping frames on recording (capturing) due to a computer that is too slow. Also if you want quality video you have to go to MPEG2, bit rate of at least 4000 kilobits per second (500 kilobytes per second)

  • Recording from camcorder to the iPad

I am trying to use an iPad to accept a recording from a camcorder.  In high school athletics, we are aloud to have video and I am trying to connect a camcorder to the iPad.  I know to get all of the connections to connect it to the iPad (HD to the iPad) but I was wondering what camera would be best and where to get it?  What I want to do is record a play and then stop recording on the camera and have it download directly to the iPad for each play I do this with.  The people that are in front of the iPad would be able to watch the plays while another person is recording.  I know I could swap SD cards back and forth but i am wanting a way that I do not have to do that.  Are there any suggestions?  Thanks for your help.

Go to Settings>Privacy>Photos. See if you need to allow Facebook access to the photos app. Also look at the Facebook setting under Twitter and see if there is a setting in there that you need to enable. Finally go to Settings>General>Restrictions>Privacy>Facebook and make sure that it hasn't been disabled in there.

  • Way to record straight from DV camcorder?

Is there a way to record directly from a DV-camcorder? If there is, how? I'm using a Panasonic PV-DC252. I want to directly record from my camcorder as I don't want to use tapes to record my videos.
    Please Help! Thanks!

No Klaus, I don't believe that a 4 pin firewire will fit into a six pin socket. Correct about the scart plug though.
We are slowly drifting away from the original question which I believe revolves around the change that has been made so that ALL cameras plugged in no longer are "recognised" as cameras. If this continues we will in the future be buying lightbulbs which do not work since they are not fitted with the chip that allows the current to flow. Just how far does the innocent consumer let himself get ripped off before he takes to doing the same amount of damage to the companies who are continually swindeling away his limited resources? My trust is day for day dwindling as I see through more of their methods of increasing revenues.
Or can someone show me that I am dreaming?

  • Recording from minidisc to Logic pro 7 via an fa-66

Hi, I'm having issues recording from a sony minidisc deck through my edirol fa-66 to my macbook. I've tried the various anologue inputs on the fa66, the 1/4 jacks and the RCA inputs on the back. With the anologue it's sounds fine until I arm the track to record, then it starts jumping and phasing. Same with the optical input, I press the "Digital sync" on the fa-66, without the "R" record armed it sounds fine, when I arm it the sound starts jumping and a message comes up "saying sample rate not recognised- Sample rate 3674"
The minidisc was recorded from a PA at I assume the satndard rate for mnidisc players of 4100Khz.

If you are using the Digital input (SPDIF) to record from MiniDisc then you are correct that it is 44.1Khz, but are you ensuring that the SPDIF input is set as the master clock? You will need to ensure that is so whilst you record digitally from it.
I can't fanthom why you might be have a problem recording from the analogue outs though. The phasing sound you describe sounds like you are hearing the original sound plus the slightly delayed sound due to software monitoring perhaps?

  • Recording from minidisc to creative player with an x

I tried recording from my?minidisc onto my computer with the x-fi card, through the line-in and mic jacks. When I stop recording and turn off the source, I still have the record volume showing some input even though nothing is on. I?even?tried disconnecting the minidisc from the input jack but the player is still showing some input. This is causing my recording to have a steady interrupting noise every quarter of a second or so. Any ideas where to search for this mysterious input or how to get around this problem.Louis?

  • Transfer Video from a  Camcorder

I want to put footage i recorded from my camcorder, which uses mini DV tapes, onto DVD.I have no firewire connection on my camcorder only usb,or DV.What is the quickest and simplest way to dp this?

    Hi
    on: http://www.camcorderinfo.com/content/jvc-gr-d72-camcorder-review.htm
    it says: Ports (7.0)
The assortment of jacks on the GR-D72 include: Mini AV in / out, which is also the headphone jack, an S-Video In/Out, _+*and a Firewire port*+_. Of these, the only one that comes included in the box is the AV in/out. The ports appear to be of sturdy construction so should last with frequent plugging and unplugging of cables.
So You need a 6-pin to 4-pin FireWire Cable - usually NOT included when buying Camera.
It looks as it is a FW-connector just under the USB-one on Your Camera.
Use this and iMovie and/or FinalCut should connect.
    Yours Bengt W

  • Problem recording stereo vocals

i'm having a problem recording from my usual midi input with a Shure stereo microphone.
the system is set for audio input from the midi microphone, and it appears to be recording in stereo (both tracks are visible in the soundwave), but once the record button is stopped, the L track disappears, and only the R track plays and shows up in playback.
i am using the m-audio prokeys sono to route the microphone through -- never had this problem before now.

i shouldn't have said the Shure SM57 was stereo.  it's probably mono like all mics.  all i'm saying is that i've used it plenty, setting it to stereo, and getting records levels on both L and R channels, and R/L waveforms in the track window.
now the audio only seems to be recording on the L (i had it backwards in the original post), with only the faintest sound and no graphic waveforms on the R.
i could probably "solve" this by recording on the mono 1 (L) channel, but that's not how i did it before, so it's really got me bugged.

i am currently using final cut pro 6 and i have a problem that i can not to do a play out to the dvcam but i can record from the dvcam, can you help please?

I believe there is no  "Export to Tape"  feature as appeared in legacy FCP.
SORRY! Just noticed you are using FCP 6.
You need to ask this question in the Final Cut Studio forum.
