Problems regarding Office:mac 2008

Just a few weeks ago I purchased my Macbook Pro and as well MSOFFICE:mac2008... I installed it successfully, and it worked just fine for a week but now it has begun to crash every time I attempt to open Word saying that an error has been found...
I have already tried de- and reinstall using Microsoft's own remove Office tool... No progress... Have you got any ideas for fixing my problem?

I run a MBP and Office 2008 also. There is an update for Office 2008 available [here (look in the bottom right-hand corner)|http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.mspx?pid=Mactopia_Office2008&fid =9730452B-E6AD-4330-93E4-57F66293BF1C#viewer]. I have not done the update, and I am having no problems with 2008. Still, it shouldn't hurt to try the update. Good luck.
I probably wouldn't bother to send the report. But, hey, way not? It can't hurt to do so.

  • Re install Office:mac 2008

    Hi
I bought Office: mac 2008 student and home in 2010 and had no problems. I then had to get my MacBook Pro completly wiped so I lost the software. I still had the backup disc so loaded it up and went through the installation process, I had to ring Microsoft support for my office product key which they found from the codes on the disc. This all worked/indstalled fine. The logos for each programme apeared on the icon bar. I then click on word (for example) and then another window appears saying:
    Activate Trial or Purchase
"If you have a product key for office 2008, enter it below to activate your trial or purchase now"
I have rung Microsoft again and they are now saying this is an absolete product and therefore can not assist me.
    PLEASE HELP!!!!
Additional: When I re installed from the back up disc I entered the product key that I was re sent from Microsoft. Whilst installing I took down another product key that only includes numbers? I dont know what this is, but I have tried both product keys several times, in several ways
If anyone knows what I should do please dont hesitate to reply to this message.

Ask on the Microsoft Mac forums since it's their software you're having issues with:

  • How do i download office mac 2008, i already have number license (i bought the disc, but can't use them with my macbook air)

    Hello!
I'm using a MacBook Air, Processor 1.4 GHz, Memory 4 GB, Software OS X 10.9.4
Years ago I bought office:mac 2008 with 3 licenses, and I want to use one for this MacBook. The problem is that I can't use the disc 'cause it doesn't have CD/DVD driver.
How can I download office mac 2008 using a number license that I already have?
    Thanks!

  • Office:Mac 2008.

I had Office:Mac X installed. I just installed +Office:Mac 2008+. Everything works fine except for Word. It just sends me a crash log every time I try to open it. I can usually figure this stuff out, but I'm at a loss here. Any suggestions.

    hello,
make sure that when you delete office, you use the "remove office" feature that is a part of the additional tools. Also you can search through your home directory for parts of office that might still be there... look in your "cache" folder, "preferences" folder, and the "application support" folder. After you do this then, do a clean install and are still having the same problem, you should create a temp. account on your hard drive and see if office 2008 works there. By creating a new account and running the installer you will be able to diagnose the problem much easier, and see if it really is a font issue. In order to create a temp account you need to go into your hard drive, under the users folder, and duplicate your home folder, then YOU MUST change the short name of that folder. once this is done, you are ready to log onto that account and do some testing.

  • Office:Mac 2008, to upgrade or not?

Sorry for posting here about a MS product, rather than posting in their forums, but I feel that this is a much more neutral and savvy audience, which will result in a more trustworthy appraisal.
Having just received yesterday a master Installer image of Office:Mac 2008, as per our educational licenses, I'm at a quandary of whether to upgrade or remain with the fully-patched Office:Mac 2004 installation I currently have.
On the plus side, you get the ability to read all those .docx or .xlsx documents the PC folks have been throwing at you without requiring the [official converter|http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.mspx?pid=Mactopia_Office2004&f id=AB66B5BF-37C3-41BB-945E-784782FC582C#viewer], which only produces RTF equivalents, or using [NeoOffice|http://www.neooffice.org/neojava/en/index.php], which sometimes errs when the document contains advanced formatting. Intel Mac users get better performance since the code is now Universal and doesn't need Rosetta anymore. Plus you'll get to 'enjoy' all the new "enhanced user experience" ( !! ) built into the new product.
On the negative side, from what I've heard, it won't open older Office documents, you will need to retrain yourself with all the new interface doodads and eye candy that MS is so fond of stuffing its products with. You will have to make sure all and any templates, etc., you have migrate successfully and are compatible with the new code and you will have to forego any VisualBasic macros or code you might have added thru the ages, since that's gone. Also, you'll have to go thru the motions of ensuring the compatibility of all the new fonts that you will get saddled with perforce.
So, what's your take on this new iteration of the ubiquitous product from the Redmond lair?

I actually haven't gotten any of those docs, so I can't speak to the compatibility.

This is my main disappointment. I thought it would just scream on Intel, but it doesn't seem all that much faster to me than running it in Rosetta. For my purposes (opening files sent to me over which I have no control), it does seem a little more stable, especially Word, not as many crashes. And it does, I have to say, seem to be somewhat quicker at laying out a 5 or 10 page document once it starts up.
Plus you'll get to 'enjoy' all the new "enhanced user experience" ( !! ) built into the new product.
I'm okay with the cosmetic changes, it seems a little less cluttered to me, but that could just be me. It's a little hard to find stuff at the beginning, though.
On the negative side, from what I've heard, it won't open older Office documents,
Hmm. I haven't had any problems, but I think the lion's share of Office docs I get are from the previous PC version (not 2007).
you will have to forego any VisualBasic macros or code you might have added thru the ages, since that's gone.
I know that's a big problem for some people, but for me it was no big deal. My macros weren't terribly difficult to re-code in AppleScript. And they run about 10 times faster, which is why I'm not getting too stressed over Excel opening slower.
Here's one thing I really, really, really, really hate about Excel: If you have a really long formula, as you go to edit it, Excel changes the fonts in the toolbar at the top to highlight various parts of your formula. As a consequence, your selection jumps around (or seems to, anyway). I struggled with that recently and never did figure out how to stop it from doing that, and I don't remember Excel 2004 doing that.
So, yeah, it's okay, but it's not exactly a barn-burner. But it's also just an office suite, so it's not like it's gonna be all that easy to work up a lot of enthusiasm for it, anyway.

  • Office:mac 2008 - Word keeps crashing...

I have Office:mac 2008 which I use regularly.  For some reason, after a good couple of years of loyal service, it keeps crashing whenever I open a Word document.  I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software, but it still crashes.  Any ideas?  Apologies if this is already covered somewhere, I have had a look but couldn't find any answers.
    Many thanks!

As a lot of people around here consider MS the "evil empire," and Word is not an Apple product, the best resource for their Mac produtcts is their own forums here:
    Office for Mac forums
Their forums are no less helpful than these and sometimes MS Mac specialists jump in to help.
I running Office 2008 on several of my Macs and your question has me stumped. Word has been stable through OS 10.6.8 (I'm not interested in what Lion offers).
One question: is the Trial version of Office installed? That wouldn't explain the "worked then--not now" effect you describe, but i have to ask as it's tripped up a number of people.

  • Microsoft Office Mac 2008

I installed office mac 2008 recently...I have looked on line and deleted the files mentioned. However, I still get the Microsoft Office Setup Assistance window when I try to open word, excel...etc. Brand new office software....thanks.

Since Office is not an Apple product, you'll want to use a forum dedicated to Microsoft's Mac products such as the ones at: http://www.officeformac.com/productforums/ rather than an Apple forum.

  • Installation of Office:mac 2008

pls help, struggling to get used to my new imac. bought microsoft office:mac 2008 and went through the installation process. All i get now when i try to open any office application is an error message: "the application microsoft blah blah quit unexpectedly" would like to uninstall and re install to try again but don't know how and cant get in touch with my sales advisor for help, going round in circles. and I know my imac is OX S but which one i no idea!

Post Office question on Microsoft's own forums for their Mac software, as Apple discussions only provide support for Apple products:

Yes, if you have access to another computer with an optical drive. You can connect the two computers via your home network and use File Sharing to transfer the installer to your HDD. You can also use:
DVD or CD sharing- Using Remote Disc
Remote Disc, Migration, or Remote Install Mac OS X and wireless 802.11n networks

  • Trouble using Office:mac 2008

I am not a computer genius, but have used Office for years on my old pc, and frankly wish I never gave it up, though I love everything else about my MacBookPro. I have loaded and reloaded the software, and it worked for a while, but as soon as I get a document from someone, it no longer works. True for Excel, as well as Word. It freezes and will not even let me access the program to open a new document. Do I just give up? It was not cheap, but I am tempted to just go back to a pc. Anyone?

There had been many issues with the original Office Mac 2008. Microsoft has released several updates. Have you installed them?
I have noted a link to the official Office Mac 2008 website for you to check out for more information.
    http://www.mactopia.com
Good luck, and let us know!
    PS
In my humble opinion, Office Mac 2008 is crap compared to Office 2007 for Windows. Office 2008 has been completely watered down from Office 2007. For this reason, I run Office 2007 on Windows via Boot Camp. It is unfortunate to have to do that, but that is just an example of how Microsoft likes getting back at Apple.

  • How to install office mac 2008 onto airbook

I have installed Office Mac 2008 onto Mac ig5. I want to do same onto macbook Air ( currently has 2004 version). How do i do this please?I have tried migration assistant and remote disc. One corrupted original 2008 version on mac ig5, the othre says not enough space on Air book.

It sounds like you don't have enough disk space on the MBA to install Office 2008. You have to clear out some room, or perhaps install only part of the new Office. You could consider throwing out Office 2004 first, though only if you have a way to put it back on again if the 2008 install still doesn't work.

  • I have office mac 2008 and i can't get word to run.  it is showing up as incomplete or damaged

Hi.  I tried to use my word application in the office mac 2008 and it says "You can't open the application Mircrosoft Word because it may be damaged or incomplete."  I can open the other mircrosoft programs in the suite but not this one.  What do I do now?

It's time to check for Microsoft updates and/or pull out your original Office installation disks and reinstall the software.
Here's a list of issues Microsoft has documented when using older Office applications with Lion. Your issue isn't on that list.
Which model iMac do you have, and which version of OS X are you using?

  • Office Mac 2008 compatible with Windows 7 through Bootcamp?

Hi, this is my first post to this forum and am seeking some assistance.
I have always been a PC user and switched to a mac around 8 mths ago and loving it, although I am still trying to drive the thing
For study I have just installed Windows 7 through bootcamp for some CAD programs and have the following question. Can I run my Office Mac 08 through Windows or do I need to purchase again under the windows platform?
When I purchased my mac I bought office mac at the same time for excel etc, but I don't want to pay again just to run on Windows? This may be a simple question to some, but I don't know much about programs.
    Thanks, Evan

Can I run my Office Mac 08 through Windows
No. You may want to run Windows in emulation.
