Problems Related to Replacing HD, And some Other Problems
i have successfully replaced with the New HD( Old HD: SMART Status Failing), What is the correct way to format the New HD before installing Mac OS X Tiger in it?
what i have done is to partition the HD in Disk Utility and i have finished installed Mac OS X in it, but the SMART Status Stating that "Verified" and Connection ID state that "Device 0", what i think is that these two status should be "ok" and "Master" respectively.
what's thing i should know to prevent my HD from being "SMART Status FAILING?
and my battery is dead!
i get the error message" your time is set incorrectly......" everytime i start up my powerbook. what the solution should be?
is Apple Hardware Test a freeware, if yes, where can i download the lastest version of it?
> what's thing i should know to prevent my HD from being "SMART Status FAILING?
There isn't any one specific thing. Just use your PowerBook normally. Amongst other things, don't knock/drop the PB whilst it is saving/opening files or starting up. Try to use it on a level surface - don't rest it on cushions, blankets, beds etc.
> i get the error message" your time is set incorrectly......" everytime i start up my powerbook. what the solution should be?
Sounds like the internal PRAM battery might be dead. It needs to be replaced. If you are still under warranty then Apple will replace it. If the warranty has expired, try an Apple Authorised Service Provider.
> is Apple Hardware Test a freeware, if yes, where can i download the lastest version of it?
The AHT is included with your PowerBook's original discs. If you only received a single DVD, then the AHT is accessed by restarting with the DVD inserted and, after the startup chime, press the 'alt' key until you see a screen with some icons in the middle (one of which will be the AHT).

Hello My ipads Power button is not working properly when I press it once it shows option to turn off instead of locking and some other display problems like it suddenly lockes down or display disappears ...Please help. Thank You
Thanks for that information!
I'm sure I will be calling AppleCare, but the problem is, they charge for the phone calls don't they? Because I don't have money to be spending to be on the phone with a support service.
In other things, it seemed like the only time my MacBook was working was when I had Snow Leopard without the 10.6.8 update download that was supposed to be done to prepare for OS X Lion.
When I look at the information of my HD it says that I have 10.6.8 but that was the install that it claimed to have failed and caused me to restart resulting in all of the repeated problems.
Also, because my computer is currently down, and I've lost all files how would that effect the use of my iPhone? Because if it doesn't get fixed by the time OS 5 is released, how would I be able to upgrade?! -
Trouble viewing YouTube and some other videos
Sorry if this is a repeating problem already posted but I have toruble viewing Youtube videos and some other videos on the web. I uninstalled Adobe Flash, v.11.2.202.233 and tried to install the latest (at the time) v. 11.2.202.235 but get the "spinning ball" treatment and no progress on installation. Is my problem related to the Flashback malware or Adobe Flash or Java app?
I believe someone or Apple posted a thread on how to determine if one's computer has the Flashback malware. Can someone direct me to that?
I am running Mac OSX 10.7.I have the answer! you need to get into your Internet Plug-Ins, remove both "flashplayer.plugin", trash them then download the new Flash Player again. For some reason the new Flash Player didn't remove the old one and therefore it keeps trying to use the old version instead of the new. Detailed removal..... 1-Finder 2-Go 3-Computer 4-Macontosh HD 5-Library 6-internet Plug-ins 7-remove both flashplayer.plugin 8-reinstall updated Flash Player.

my keyboard on macbook pro (laptop) is acting weird. One key is not responding at all. Have verified using Keyboard viewer and some other keys are printing the unresponsive character at random. "z" is the unresponsive character.
Is it a damaged keyboard ?
The laptop is just 2 months old, will Apple replace it with a new one if its indeed a damaged keyboard or just repair, I use it for official purposes so being without a laptop is not much of an option. No one here works for Apple, so we don't know what Apple might or might not do. If it's a genuine defect, they will of course repair it under warranty. It is not their responsibility if it effects your ability to work or not, so that's on you.
If, however, they determine that the key is problematic as a result of your misuse of the laptop, then everything is on you. And trust me, if they find a glob of dried up beer or coffee there, they will charge you.
Your only choice is to take it in for repair. -
connects to wifi, but safari and some others say not connected. weather ap works fine. this condition just started. i reset the wifi and restarted, but still doesnt work
Look at iOS Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398
iPad: Issues connecting to Wi-Fi networks http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3304
WiFi Connecting/Troubleshooting
http://www.apple.com/support/ipad/wifi/
iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4199
Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

For some reason, since this morning, any bookmarked or previously visited website works, and some others But new links or even pasted or typed in addresses don't. Must.figure.this.out! I don't have extra firewalls/security other than the standard mac ones and have restarted the computer and also rebooted all devices. Operation is safe mode has same results. Cleared cache and cookies.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
BrianHello.
It's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not caused by one (or more than one) of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] (don't forget to select ''Disable all add-ons'' when you start safe mode). If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and themes and [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+plugins this one] for plugins.
If you need support for one of your add-ons, you'll have to contact its author.
If the problem is not disappears when all add-ons are disabled, please tell me, so we can work from there. Please have no fear of following my instructions to the line, as all can be easily undone. -
The keyboard for my iMac 9, got wet and is not working correctly. Delete ,return, and some other keys not functioning. In all caps including numerals. I've left it to dry for a few days but still will not work. Computer now in Safe boot mode and I can't login due to all caps and numbers being symbols. Is there anything I can do?
Buy a replacement keyboard. They're only $50-65 USD.

Facebook, youtube, and some other sites doesn't work on Mountain Lion
Since I installed Mountain Lion (today) i can't acess facebook, youtube videos and some other sites. I thought the problem was the flash player so i've tryed uninstall and reinstall, desable and enable, and read some tips that didn't work until now. Hope you can help me =)
Found the answer myself, its a commun problem in Mountain Lion. Some guy found the way to make flash work well. Maybe some of you just need to install the latest version. But the truth is there is a bug and this is how to fix it:
System Preferenes > Network > Wi-Fi or Ethernet (whatever you're using) > Advanced > Hardware > Set 'Configure = Manually' > Change 'MTU = Custom' = 1380 -
The problem is that all of a sudden, I cannot load and see videos from youtube and some other sites.
When I ask to see something from youtube for example, the appropriate page opens, and in the place that the video was supposed to be loaded, I see a black screen and nothing happens.
I scanned the computer and found nothing.
I uninstalled firefox and installed it again.
The problem stays.
I browsed using CHROME and I have no problem. i can see everything perfectly.
This happened suddenly today.Could they be viewed ... and used ... by QuickTime Player?
Installing the Perian codec component package will normally allow FLV file containers to be played in QT players. However, it might be more helpful here if you could provide a specific YouTube URL (and resolution if applicable) of interest to check out. While I previously indicated content was typically converted to FLV, MP4 files may also be used and content may compressed as H.264/AAC in either container which, of course, should already be QT compatible without additional support.
Could anything be done about improving video quality?
That depends. If the file you are interested in is available in multiple resolutions, then downloading the highest available resolution would provide the best starting point for iMovie editing. If compressed content is already in an iMovie compatible compression format, then it might be possible to copy the content to an iMovie compatible file container (if not already in one) and thus avoid transcoding the data before import to iMovie. However, you still have the potential for some visual quality loss after editing when you export the finished project from iMovie. -

Anyone have any ideas?Oops, I should have mentioned that I've repaired permissions both from a DVD bootup as well as from the current hard drive. I reinstalled the last update.
I have Time Machine so I guess I could go back to a previous state if I knew what the problem was. -
Chrome and some other apps scrolling jerky in Mountain Lion
I note from another site there are seven bugs needed fixing asap. I have most of them after upgrading.
Worst at the moment is the crap scrolling in Chrome and some other apps.
Also losing the pointer bery often
How soo do Apple respond and fix these things normally.
I think Lion and Mountain Lion are brilliant but I didn't think my new commitment to Apple would include these shoddy upgrades.Yep...

Note that you lose privacy when using Gmail (and Yahoo):
Gmail and Yahoo both scan users' emails. They do algorithmic analysis of your email messages, targeting ads that relate to the content of your messages. Defenders point out that "they", are not people, but machines. And they argue that it is a harmless way of making advertising relevant to users and raising revenues.
Others might say that whether a machine or a human is doing the work, the potential for a privacy breach is there. -
i have iphone 4 and it connect to some wireless networks and some others are not visible while other lphones can find these networks and i tried to restart the phone many times and there is no result, kindly advice
Some updates and clarifications:
1. I already have my 2.4 channel fixed.
2. Wireless network name is 8 alphanumeric characters; no spaces
3. Already using WPA2 security with a 10 alphanumeric key (again, no spaces)
4. I am running Airport Utility 6.0, Mac OS version 10.7.4
I should also say that these problems started happening less than a month ago...prior to that all devices where working normally.
An added update: My two e-readers (nook ST and Kindle 3) are also refusing to connect...perhaps confirming that I have 2.4 GHz issues? -
