Problems rendering Motion template

When I add a Motion template onto my timeline and edit it, it shows up fine on the canvas until I render it...then nothing, the lower 3rd or whatever I put in there just disappears from the rendered video. It is still on the timeline, but only shows up on the canvas when unrendered. What am I doing wrong?

Hi,
My problem is verrrrry similar to yours:
When I add a Motion template onto my timeline and edit it, it shows and plays fine on the canvas -UNTIL- I render it...then it look like interlaced noise?
I am running FCP STUDIO 2 on a MAC BOOK PRO using Panasonic HVX200 footage (HD 720p24) .
Have you found any fixes?

  • Does rendering Motion Templates in FCP use the GPU?

I know that FCP when it comes to rendering relies almost completely on the CPU, but when Motion Templates are involved, does it somehow use Motions rendering system and involve the GPU? I only ask because i'm getting stupidly slow rendering times with Motion Templates in FCP, and i'm wondering if a graphics upgrade will help.
    Many Thanks in advance.

  • Problem rendering Motion 2 project in FCP 5.0.2

I have mutliple projects done in Motion 2, imported into FCP 5.0.2 timelines.
All projects are in NTSC DV, 720x480 format.
I am having a problem with rendering in FCP. I have one project that is a mostly static screen with one animated element, which renders fine except that it imports shifted a few pixels to the left. It's not just as simple as "move the imported file to the right to fix it", because it is actually rendering as if the entire screen in Motion were shifted over, so things at the left edge in Motion are actually cropped out in FCP.
Also, I have a problem in other where some (but not all) photos that I have cropped and scaled show up scaled and cropped completely differently in FCP (some even randomly change their scaling and cropping randomly in the middle of a move, even though in the Motion project they did not change.
So...any suggestions? I am not in charge of purchasing so I don't have the immediate option of upgrading, so I am hoping that is not the only way to fix this.
I could render out all my motion projects, but they all have transparency that is meant to layer of video in FCP and I'm not sure the best way to export (with alpha channels?). I could also redo my entire project in Motion, but I'm a week from my deadline and I need to sleep some time
    Thank you for any help.

Try upgrading your system to 5.0.4.. it fixed a lot of bugs.

  • Problems rendering motion projects in Final Cut.

When I import a motion project into final cut, and attempt to render it once it's on the timeline, i just get a black screen.

Here's an inelegant workaround I've used when having these kinds of troubles:
In your FCP timeline, create a slug the exact duration of the Motion project you're trying to import. Then control click on that slug, and choose Send To>Motion Project. It will launch Motion, with all the correct project properties assigned to the Motion file. Copy all your work from the first Motion project (the one that renders black), and paste it into this new Motion file that FCP has created. Hit Save in Motion. Then try rendering again in FCP. (Also, in FCP's Canvas, make sure Image is selected in the upper rightmost dropdown, or you might just get black.)

  • Motion Template

I'm having problems with Motion Template in Final Cut. I've recently changed computers and have discovered that I can't open up Motion Templates in my viewer. It appears as a black screen. I edited the original program using a Mac Book Pro, Motion templates playback very well. After switching computers (Mac Pro) I'm not able to render out or playback these Motion Templates. My only guess is the graphics card. Final Cut Pro recommends an AGP or PCI Express Quarts Extreme. Here are the specs on my system:
    Mac OSX version 10.5.3
Processor: 2x266 GHz Dual Core Intel Xeon
    Memory: 5 GB 667 MHz DDR2 B-DIMM
    Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT
Everything else plays back very well. Have also updated software. it the graphics card? Any thoughts?

The template appears fine in Motion. I loaded it to my sequence and right clicked and opened it up in Motion. I played back fine in Motion, I just can't get it to play back in Final Cut.
What are your thoughts about the graphics card? The very first laptop I had was a MacBook. We had Final Cut Studio loaded on it. I had the same problem where Motion Template would not play in Final Cut. We went to a MacBook Pro and the Motion Template played back fine. Now, I have a Mac tower with more hard drive space, and the Motion Template does not playback. Any other thoughts? Thanks.

Problems such as yours are sometimes caused by files that should belong to you but are locked or have wrong permissions. This procedure will check for such files. It makes no changes and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
    First, empty the Trash.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below to select it, then drag or copy it — do not type — into the Terminal window:
    find . $TMPDIR.. \( -flags +sappnd,schg,uappnd,uchg -o ! -user $UID -o ! -perm -600 -o -acl \) 2> /dev/null | wc -l
Press return. The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
The output of this command, on a line directly below what you entered, will be a number such as "35." Please post it in a reply.

  • Having problems creating folders in my motion template folder

trying to create  titles and transition folder in my motion template folder for my plugins. fcpx and motion 5. it funny cause my generator folder shows my gen. plugins

I have the same problem. For example, create a folder called Images. Delete the folder. Now there is nothing in the folder. Try to create a new "Images" folder. It won't let you!
You can log out. Log in. Try from a different computer. You cannot use Images as a folder name again if you used it once and deleted it. Also, I tried to drag in a folder. Doesn't work. Getting frustrated with file management in Creative Cloud. It isn't intuitive. For example, how do you delete a file or folder? There is no trash can, no delete. You have to click on a checkmark that says "batch." I don't know about you, but why would anyone think to do a batch action on one file? Doesn't the name infer you're going to perform an action on several files? This is a basic UI flaw that needs to be addressed.
Also, if you have an updated file, or folder of files that need to go to the cloud, they cannot save over the current content. Without any user notification it creates a second folder, or a second file and numbers it. Now I'm confused. Did what I just uploaded get the number or was the original file numbered? Anyway, now I have two sets of files in the cloud and I'm left wondering which is which.
I feel like a beta tester and I'm paying $30 a month for the privilege! Please help!

  • Problem importing Motion project into FCP (images 'wobbly' and 'jaggedy')

I'm at wit's end here. I did a short 10 second intro for a press reel in Motion that is pretty basic and looks good in Motion (it's just images from the show flying across the screen, with a cloud emitter as background). The problem is that when I import it into Final Cut Pro, the images get all jittery and wobbly. It looks as if they are going in and out of different interlacing stages, which makes no sense.
The images were taken from the theater's website, and I have have tried them both in JPG and PSD formats. They are all being scaled down from the original size a touch after I import them into Motion (would that be the problem? Didn't think to try that...). As I said, they look fine and clear in Motion, but when I export into a Quicktime movie or render it and play it back in Final Cut Pro, they get all jaggedy/wobbly (for lack of a better technical term). Stills exported from the Motion file look fantastic in Photoshop (and in Final Cut Pro when I use them as background) but a paused image in Final Cut Pro looks very jagged.
I've tried everything I can think of, and even upped all the render settings in the project, to no avail. Any ideas/suggestions?

Sure. I'm uploading two files. One at www.jonathanfrank.com/FCPTest.mov, contains two 10 second movies back to back. The first clip is the project I created from scratch, the second clip is a test I did using a Motion template that I was 'inspired' by. Both were exported from Motion w/Field set to 'none' and export settings set to 'animation' Both looked pretty good when the exported file was opened in Quicktime. I imported the files and rendered them in FCP (and noticed that Field got set to Low/Even along the way somehow) and then exported them into Quicktime via FCP.
I also am uploading the original file of my project that I exported from Motion to see the difference at www.jonathanfrank.com/poetintro1.mov
Due to the size, it's not as easy to see the 'jitter' It was really noticeable when I imported the Travel template sans photos (so you just saw the grey "replace here" images with the circles and grids). It looks passable in the movies, but when Printed to Video, played in FCP (or played in the full-sized format in Quicktime) it's a lot more obvious what I'm talking about.
Basically, the motion just isn't smooth. It's very jagged and jittery, and the definition is dreadful.
Thanks for all your help and interest, by the way. And hope this

  • Motion Template Speed

    Hey,
When I import a motion template, after rendering there is a significant speed increase when playing back.
Any ideas what the problem may be?
    Cheers.

Well I cant play back full speed prior to rendering. But I can see in the sequencer frames of the template. I then go to change the template attributes - text and inputing into the dropzone and I can see it all in the viewer. But then I render and it plays back too fast.
It plays back perfectly but with like a 30% speed increase. Its weird.

  • Looong render times with motion templates

I've been a big advocate for FCPX as there are a lot of great features but there are some things that are just killing me, no.1 render time.
I'm working on some simple presentation edits using motion templates I have built in motion 5 and published to fcpx. The templates all consist of a single dropbox for video with a type field for test messages next to it. These are against a flat white rectangle used to reflect (similar to the coverflow but against a white background) and a subtle camera sweep has been added so it slowly turns from one side to the other by 30 degrees. Each of these is 10 seconds long.
I chop up my imported movie on the timeline (untouched by grade/fx/retiming) and add the template to each of the chopped clips. I then select each applied template in the timeline and use the video well to select the clip below it for the dropzone. I add my text. That's all good. I now have a timeline approx 3 minutes long consisting of these motion graphics templates.
Now, if I chose to either render or export a QT with timeline settings, estimated time is 8 - 9 hrs (I have tried both) I left a 3:30 project exporting last night at 11:45. It finished at 9:00AM.
That is just unacceptable. It is irritating because the functionality of building the sequences in FCPX far outweighs what FCP 7 is capable of but the so-called "renderless" abilities of FCPX
    are making life ****.
I use Event Manager X to turn off everything I am not using except the individual project. I have reset preferences in Preference Manager to see if that helps. I have purged using terminal. I have my clips on an external firewire 800 HD. I have no other software running. I accept I need a more powerful Mac - I'm using a 2009 3 Ghz Intel Core Duo iMac with 6gig ram using Lion 10.7.2 and FCPX 10.0.2 but 9 hours for a 3:30 clip?
Any suggestions for where I can cut down on render time are appreciated. The source clip for the video for the dropzones and the final exported presentation movie are HD ProRes.
    Cheers

The situation you describe does not seem normal. It should not take nearly that long to render and export your 3:30 movie. Considering that your mac is not one of the most recent vintage, and your are editing in full HD, one could expect it to take a bit of time, but nothing like this.
In the way of troubleshooting, you could try and export just one of these 10 second segments.
I have no way of knowing for sure, but I guess that it might export in a much more reasonable amount of time.
I suspect that memory may be running scarce, which, as has been repeatedly mentioned in these fora, is a problem affecting many of us using FCP X under Lion. You mentioned you used "purge" in the Terminal, but in such a long render you might have had to do it repeatedly...

  • Convert 30fps Motion template to 24fps

I found info on the boards about converting 24fps to 30, but that does not seem to work in reverse.
I have several (400+) motion templates created at 29.97, which I occasionally need to use at 24fps. When I drop them in the 24fps timeline in FCP, they are fine until rendering, at which point they get truncated. A 12 second intro, although still 12 seconds, only shows approximately the first 9 seconds of the template and abruptly ends.
As a quick workaround, I tried simply fading it out at a convenient point in the intro, so it wouldn't look bad. However, changing the opacity forced a re-render and somehow it still didn't fade out at the right point. For now, I've been creating a separate sequence at 29.97 with just the intro, filling the drop zones, titles, etc, exporting a QT movie, bringing it into compressor to transcode to 24fps and then re-importing into the original timeline.
I tried creating a new 24fps project in motion, copying all the layers from the 29.97 template project and pasting them in, but that also didn't work. To show the whole project, it needed to be approximately 14 seconds. Is there a way, short of completely recreating the projects from scratch, to get this to work? And yes, I know this may all become horribly broken in a few weeks when they release the new version.

I'm sorry I don't have a good answer aside from what you're trying - rendering out a QT movie and putting that in your timeline...

  • Encore stops when rendering motion menus

I have a pretty consistent problem when rendering motion menus/project and I don't know how to fix it. Can anyone help?
I've just started to use Encore2, having switched from DVD Workshop 2.
I've got a wedding to author and I've used the useful 'Create Chapter Index' function that automatically creates sub menus. This has worked fine UNTIL I render the motion menus.
There are four menus: 1 x Main Menu, and 3 x Sub Menus.
If I render number 1 sub menu it's fine. It renders all 375 frames (why are there always 375 frames?).
The number 2 sub menu also renders properly.
When I get to number 3 sub menu, it always stops at frame 294 and Encore hangs! Why should this be?
I tried creating another project using the same mpeg file (4.12 GB) but with different menus and the same thing happens!
    Any ideas?
    John

    > why are there always 375 frames?
Assuming PAL (at 25fps) that would be a 15 second motion menu.
    > always stops at frame 294 and Encore hangs!
Just guessing: If you used motion thumbnails for chapters or timelines, there could be a "glitch" (corruption) 294 frames into the chapter or timeline the thumbnail video is made from.

  • Rendering Motion project with compressor?

    Hello,
I've got a MacPro with MacOS X 10.5.5 and the lastest FCS2 update (so Compressor 3.0.5).
I want to use virtual cluster to speed up the rendering of Motion project because by default, only a few part of the power is used.
I've created a virtual cluster who works when i want to compress a QT file but no way to use it with Motion. The project appears in Batch Render but disappears after a few secondes...
    As somebody a solution?
    Thank you

Hello Patrick...I have posted a sample video of the "layer strobing" effect I was originally referring to:
    http://gallery.mac.com/reelmagik1
I also just heard back from the apple store, and they claim they can't find anything wrong with the Mac Pro. I have exported this project from my macbook pro with no strobing at all. The project was even opened and exported by mounting the drive from the Mac Pro on my Macbook Pro, so there was no chance of anything being changed if I had copied the project. I argued with the repair guy from Apple for quite a while, but he could not give me a definitive answer as to what might be wrong, only that their hardware tests showed nothing wrong with the Mac Pro. He went on to suggest that it may be a software problem, maybe something went wrong with the way I installed the OS or Motion...however, he also said that they tested the project on other machines in their shop, and it also rendered incorrectly on those machines. Wouldn't that mean that their machines had bad software as well? He contradicted himself many times and I was losing my patience with him. I am not saying that their tests were wrong, but I'm sure it is possible they could have missed something. What else can I do? Is there anyone else I can contact from Apple? This computer is my main source of income and I need it to function correctly.
I have posted quite a few problems with Motion 3 on this website in the past...quite a few of which you personally responded that you had never experienced those types of problems or errors that I was having. This also leads me to believe that my problems were hardware related, specific to only my Mac Pro perhaps...
I would appreciate any suggestions that you or anyone else may have. I don't know where else to turn. I have also posted the project and media on my iDisk:

    Thank you.

  • NO Audio on Motion Templates

When creating Motion Templates for use in Final Cut Pro -- no matter what I do, I cannot get the audio to show up in FCP. The audio plays and is editable in motion --but the Template, when opened in FCP has NO audio. It is not just that it won't play..but there is literally no audio data associated with the file. Only the video layer comes through. Any thoughts? Thanks much.

I don't know if the challenge I'm having is the same one you commented on here. I created a 3D type Motion template where I have a split screen effect - e.g., a video clip of a presenter appears on the left side and a Powerpoint type slide appears on the right side - each are rotated at 45 degree - towards the center. I have no problem replacing the drop zones for both the video clip and slide, but the audio tracks aren't available when used in FCP. I can add and sync a copy of the video/audio to a separate track behind the Motion template, but I would think there is a more elegant solution.
Essentially I'm looking for a set of templates where I can switch the focus between the video of a speaker and the Powerpoint slide they use in the presentation. There would be 2 sets of templates - The first set would transition to/from the speaker footage to the the split screen effect (described above), the second set would transition to/from the slide and the split screen effect.
Am I hitting a limitation of the Motion templates where the audio of a video drop zone is not utilized?
Is there a better way to accomplish what I want?
