Problems restoring lost stickies/widgets to dashboard

Hello! I'm on a late 2006 Macbook that was originally running Tiger, then Snow Leopard and later Lion. I know my mac can give way anytime so I decided back up my mac on a time machine and to wipe the hdd via disk utility and reinstall Lion. (kinda regretting )
I have had some stickies since wayyyy back. And I am having trouble finding this  .plist files and com-widget files in the Library/Preferences or Users/username/preferences (doesn't exist, no idea why) folder in my external hdd. I have found a thread (but have since lost the link) where a person commented that he was unable to find the .plist files in this folder as well (in this context, he upgraded from tiger to snow leopard).
Could it be that mine is somewhere else? I have tried searching in spotlight for the com.apple.dashboard.client.plist /com.apple.dashboard.plist as well as com-widget but nothing appears....
help? thanks in advance!
also have a problem accessing the backup i made prior to the hdd wipe (they are dark pink in the time machine) but i guess i should refer to another thread for that..

Hi,
Based on Lions rules of precedence, resources are searched by the system in ~/Library, /Library (...networks & then system Library).
So, if you installed the widgets as a user on the original system, they should be in ~/Library/Widgets and the plist should be in ~/Library/Preferences/.
A dashboard widget should store it's resources within these places only.
I wonder if the TimeMachine backup was complete?
Good luck!

  • New Mac. Lost Stickies Widget data from previouss Mac.

I had saved some information to Stickies Dashboard Widgets on pervious Mac. Just upgraded to new Mac Pro.
I have the previous Mac backed up, but can't determine where the data from those widgets might be stored. Any ideas?

The contents of the Dashboard "Stickies" notes appear to be stored in the user's "~/Library/Preferences/widget-com.apple.widget.stickies.plist" file...

  • HT2492 Stickies Widget

I have a problem with my stickies widget. I can change the color of the sticky but it only lasts until I turn off my computer. After shutting down and coming back in again, my stickies revert back to the original yellow color. Anyone know how to fix this?

they are available on my computer. I don't know! ive tried uninstalling it all and reinstalling (off the tiger install cd) but no luck!

  • I'm waiting for my new iPhone 5s to be delivered. I lost my iPhone 5 but did have it backed up on my MacBook Pro. I was using iOS6 at the time. Will I have a problem restoring the data to my new iPhone 5s assuming it will come with iOS7?

No, you should not.  There are problems trying to go the other way, but updating a newer iOS release from a backup of an older iOS release has always been supported and is the basic means of setting up a new device from a previous one.

  • Stickies widget problem

My stickies widgets change their background color back to standard every time i log out or restart my computer! why?

I've also had this question for a while but ended up fixing it myself by setting my own default background within the widget packaged file. If you want the fix I can post it here.

  • I recently had to swap out my iphone 4s and I am having problems restoring photos and videos from icloud.  I get a message on my phone that says " the URL you are requesting is not found on this server".  Pics and videos have been deleted too.

I recently had to swap out my iphone 4s and I am having problems restoring photos and videos from icloud.  When I restored my phone from icloud, half of my pics and videos have been deleted, the pics that were restored on my phone are very blurry, and the videos won't play.  I get a message on my phone that says " the URL you are requesting is not found on this server".  I have erased and reset my phone twice, but every time I do it, more pics and videos are deleted.  I have backed up to icloud and iphoto, however, some of the pics are no longer on iphoto either.  Is there someway to get the videos to play on my phone again?  Make the photos not as blurry as they are now and to restore the pics and videos that have been lost?  I really would love to have them back, this phone is supposed to be the best and right now it doesn't seem to be.  Please help if you can.

I too have noticed that once i restored from iCloud. Pictures blurry and videos wont play!
    Need help too!!

  • Can't change font in Stickies widget

Okay, I know this is a small thing, but for some reason I am unable to change the font in the Stickies widget that comes with Tiger. The strange thing is when I first used it, I was able to type in Marker Felt no problem. Then for some reason it just stopped working. I have all the necessary fonts in my Font Book; Stickies just doesn't appear to be accessing them. I've reloaded the widget several times. Any guesses?

    Magritte,
First of all save any important notes that you may have using a word processing program.
Then find the widget-com.apple.widget.stickies.plist file in your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences folder, drag it to the Desktop and log out/in or restart and let us know what happens.

  • How to restore Lost App Tabs and Tab Groups

I make a lot of use of App tabs and Tab Groups. Today at startup of FireFox it showed only 1 blank tab with the default FireFox startup page. As far as I know there wasn't anny update recently.
I have lost session restore before but then FireFox start page showed me the option te restore it, this isn't the case now. Also the restore session button in the menu is grayed out.
Is there anny way to restore my tabs?
    Thanks in advance.
I'm using FF 5 under Windows Vista.

As well as having had this problem a couple of times on different machines, both immediately after upgrades, I also use the synch capability so that tab groups from more than one machine can be accessed from any of the others - a really useful capability. It's really frustrating to have lost everything and have to try to recreate things from history. It occurs to me that the contents of my sets of groups are stored on a synch server somewhere so they ought to be recoverable from the hopefully, periodic automatic server backups - only problem is, how to access them? unlikely to be possible at this stage!
In this context, a useful enhancement would be a capability to make user-created named backups of all current groups of tabs which could later be restored at will; any upgrade process should also automatically create such a backup for the user so that the problem of lost groups of tabs would be solved. In addition it would give users additional flexibility to create groups of groups - accessed by the save/restore mechanism - say for development, personal or social or whatever.

  • Where is Stickies Widget information saved?

I was having issues with iPhoto and the only thing that fixed it was a clean install of Snow Leopard. I just backed up my user folder with SuperDuper since I wanted to start out fresh and then only add my user files and the applications I use now. I've got everything backed up but I just remembered that I didn't copy some info I had written down in the Stickies widget. I'm not sure if that info is saved in my user directory but hopefully it is saved somewhere in there. Is there is widgets folder or temp file I can copy from my backed up user directory into the clean install. Thanks a lot!

I am not able to retrieve a stickie note through my time machine even if I go to my home/library/stickiesdatabase. all that comes up is a blank white page. I pushed restore and the stickie I was looking for did not appear. I don't save them because I did not think I needed to... I thought time machine automatically restored your computer to the way it was on the certain date you go to. In fact, I am not sure how to save a stickie, it is not under the file options. I usually just cut and paste it to a document and then save the document. Does this sound right? they are just not retrievable once you have put them in the trash?

  • When trying to download a new widget from dashboard it will take me to download upgrades.  my computer is up to date.

cann't download new widgets to dashboard.  screen will take me to downloads, but for safari or itunes

I think this is a problem with the website - not your fault.  Give it a day or two and see if it clears up.

Something in your backup may be corrupt. Try wiping it and setting it up as a new device, then sync your apps, data and media back to it from iTunes. DO NOT resotre from your backup. If the problem is contained in the backup, it will bring it right back again if you restore.

Problem: I lost the option to get the sound from external speakers or headphones to upgrade to Lion 10.7.3. It accepts only internal speakers.  I downloaded  Combo directly , without using "Actualización de software". I followed all the advice from the Apple community.  Can I use bluetooth speakers to solve this problem?  My Computer: iMac. 20-inch, Early 2008. Processor 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.

You may need to reset PRAM/NVRAM.
First, check that the jack is clean. Put some alcohol on a plug and insert it a few times. See if that helps.
is your output both digital and analog? If digital, is the red laser light visible in the socket? Do not look directly into the socket when checking.
If all else fails try a PRAM reset:
    Reset your computer’s PRAM
A small amount of your computer’s memory, called “parameter random-access memory” or PRAM, stores certain settings in a location that Mac OS X can access quickly. The particular settings that are stored depend on your type of Mac and the types of devices connected to it. The settings include your designated startup disk, display resolution, speaker volume, and other information.
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Immediately press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Continue holding the keys down until the computer restarts, and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
DO NOT HOLD These keys beyond the second startup sound!
    Release the keys.
Resetting PRAM may change some system settings and preferences. Use System Preferences to restore your settings.
