Problems retriggering

Greetings. I am using a PXI 6289 and I need to generate a fast continous pulse traing that is synced with an external clock. I have foudn several examples which at the core all have same base. Use a counter to generate a finite number of pulses that is trigered from the external clock and then retrigger it.
http://sine.ni.com/devzone/cda/epd/p/id/2415  Here is the most basic example.
So I have a 5kHz clock and I am putting it into the SRC of counter 0 (PFI8)
I use that as my trigger for CTR 0 output. I tell it to make a 50kHz clock and make 100pulses.
It does this well except when it goes to retirgger it misses one full cycle of the external clock. So the new pulse train is not continous. I have been looking through the posts and this should work. If you do 99 pulses you can see it does not miss a full cycle but the two clocks are no longer synched if you look at the signals on a scope.
In the end I jsut need to generate a fast clock from a slower clock and it needs to be continous. I would like it to work with the 6289 but I am beginning to open my mind to getting a new card if this doesn't work.
If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.

Hi Glish Lab,
The reason you are missing a full cycle of the external clock is likely due to the trigger rearm time on the PXI-6289.  I have a few questions as well as suggestions that might help us find a better solution for you.
Do you know the accuracy of the 5kHz external clock?  I ask this because this would help us determine if you might be better off using a phase-locked loop (PLL) with the PXI backplane clock.  Depending on which PXI chassis you are using, the accuracy of the backplane clock might differ but is around +/- 25 PPM for the PXI 1042.  If your external clock is less accurate than the backplane clock, you might be better off bringing it in as a reference clock so that it will be PLL'd to the higher accuracy backplane clock.
The only problem PLLing to the backplane clock is that they are only phase locked and not synchronized.  You will have to wait a few cycles of the 5kHz external clock for the backplane clock to fully PLL.  This also means to synchronize the two you will need to provide a digital pulse as a start trigger (after these few cycles) to synchronize the backplane clock.  You would then be able to divide down the backplane clock by an integer to adjust the sample clock to whatever you would like.  Regardless of whether the accuracy of your clock is greater or less than the backplane, you can still bring in the external sample clock as a reference clock (PLL'd to the backplane) and provide a digital pulse start trigger to gain a faster synchronized clock.
If you could provide more information about the source of the external sample clock and details of the other devices you're using in your application, it might help me find a better solution.
I hope this helps,
Paul C.

  • Counter retrigger problem

    Hi, I am having a problem with counters on a USB-6211.
    I'm trying to retrigger a counter (start the lowticks running again) before the highticks have finished with the current pulse.
    I need to do this to allow me to position a lamp flash drive signal over a datum signal from a rotating shaft (think timing lamps and engines).
    I would take the easy way out and use 2 counters to do this but I need the 2nd counter (my device only has 2) to measure the period of rotation!
    I've attached an example VI to show the problem.
    If you choose to put the output pulse anywhere other than over the trigger signal, it works fine. As soon as I try to position my output pulse over the trigger signal I only get an output once every 2nd rotation.
    I need to tell the DAQ card to accept a trigger signal to start lowticks running before it's finished outputting highticks. I'm guessing each counter must actually be 2 counters internally (one for lowticks and one for highticks).
    (You might need a scope to see the problem on the output)
    Any help greatly appreciated!

    Looks like there is a way to do this with the PCI-6602, but I'm not sure if it works with the USB-6211:

  • MacBook Pro 15" Late 2011 Problems with iMac 27" Late 2009 TDM

    Hi,
    I just got problems with my iMac 27" Late 2009 (Mini-DisplayPort) and my MacBook Pro 15" Late 2011 (Thunderbolt).
    When I try to use my iMac as external monitor for my MacBook, there are massive glitches and graphical bugs on my second screen.
    I bought a MDP-to-MDP wire from Belkin which works perfect on other computers.
    I tried these things:
    - Disconnected MagSafe from MacBook + unplugged all USB devices + switched graphics to discrete.
    - Shut down all computers ... then booted MBP, iMac and triggered CMD+F2
    - SMC, PRAM reset on both devices
    The cable works, because:
    17" MacBook Pro Late 2011 works perfectly on my iMac screen with my Belkin wire!
    I connected my MacBook Pro 15" to a 27" Cinema Display and it works flawless.
    After that I plugged it out and tested it again with my iMac screen -> suddenly it works.
    Retriggering CMD+F2 or replugging breaks it again with massive bugs.
    The MacBook Pro 17" is on 10.7.2, 15" is on 10.7.3, but I also tried to trigger dual screen in 10.7.0 setup with the same issue.
    Maybe its a problem with the internal 6750M of my MacBook Pro 15"?
    The 6770M of the 17" is working well.
    Sample Video:

    All updates/firmware updates of iMac and MacBook Pro are installed.
    Any solutions?

  • Issue with retriggering Release Strategy

    Hi all,
    We have a one off situation here. We had already 10 release staragies in our system. We added 2 more release strategies with a new characteristic. We updated the characteristic value only for the new 2 release strategues and did not update the rest 10. Although now we had updated the characteristic value for remaiining strategies, the purchase documents created in the mean tme is not subjected to release strategy. To ensure business control we need to retrigger back the release strategy for almost 1000's of documents.
    As any change to purcahsing document will retrigger it when done manually, but given the number of documents and as per Note 493900 we cannot trigger it by any backgoriund job to modify as below:
    16. Question :
    Why is there no release strategy determination when a program changes in
    background a purchasing document which corresponds to the classification of
    a release strategy ?
    Answer :
    This is the system design that a release strategy determination can only be
    triggered through a user action and not by changes made in background
    process.
    If you create a document (e.g. PO, Contract, etc), the determination of the
    release strategy takes place only in case of a user event like checking or
    saving the document.
    Kindly suggest any best practise to retrigger release strategy  for the missing documents to ensure business control. Any easy and time savig measure to get it resolved will be appreciated.
    Regards,
    Anand Sampath

    Hi Arnand,
    After investigation by searching customer messages database ,I found
    other customer has  similar problem as the release strategy has changed
    after creation of the SES please review the  explanation from developer
    :(whose release code is 03 )
    When you try to revoke the acceptance of the service entry sheets
    in ML81N or ML81, the 'Enter release code' pop  up window appears, but
    entering the code that is determined via the menu path Goto -> Entry
    Sheet -> Release Strategy (which is the 03), the SES remains the same.
    Nothing changes. The status does not vary and no error or warning
    message is issued.
    Checking the customizing for the release strategy, the release code
    03 should have never been assigned to the SES 800024272 as the values
    for the relevant characteristics were not included under that code.
    I do not know how it was managed to accept the SES.
    Now, when you try to revoke it, it seems that no release
    strategy can be determined, not even including the values RCARESANO
    and 012 between the valid values for the characteristics of the release
    code 03 (RCARESANO as valid value for SUPERVISOR_SERVICIOS
    (CESSR-ERNAM)and 012 as valid value for GRUPO_COMPRAS (CESSR-EKGRP)).
    The only Possibility is to change now the SES so that the release
    strategy can be re-determined by the system.This is the Only possible
    way that the system can  redetermine the Release Strategy , but it will
    not be possible to do so as the SES is already accepted with the Old
    strategy and it does not admit any further changes.
    To be able to change it you would need to revoke the SES first,
    but this Will also not be possible as the Release Strategy was changed
    and the system still applies the old rules for determining the Release.
    Solution to our Problem
    The Only way to revoke the SES is to Restore back the Old Strategy that
    was prior to 03 in the customizing.So now what will happen is that by
    applying the Old Rules the System will be able to revoke the SES that#s
    using the Old one. Once the necessary SES are revoked then go back to
    customizing and apply the new strategy as it was did now, and
    Change the SES and save , the new value of the Release Strategy will get
    updated in the table ESSR and the field frgsx will now have 03.
    Problems associated if the Release strategy is changed
    Actually the release strategy is not supposed to be changed when there
    are some documents in the System that uses it and even if you change the
    Strategy the Old records will not get AUTOMATICALLY UPDATED by the
    system.The Release Strategy routine has to run again to update the
    values. This is Possible by changing the document SES ,
    This change will happen only if the SES is not accepted and if its
    accepted then you need to revoke and to revoke you need to restore the
    old strategy , revoke and then change the SES , and have to go back to
    customizing and Start using the New strategy from now on by doing so the
    Routine will update the old record with the new strategy.
    b) You may want to use CEKKO-BADAT(Requisition Date) or any other
    structure in CEBAN or CEKKO and create a new release strategy
    to differentiate the old release strategy.
    Hope this helps,
    Kind Regards,
    Matthew

  • Problem in workflow with WF-BATCH

    Hi All,
    we have a problem in the workflow user WF-BATCH where the validity was expired and the workflow stopped working. we found the problem after a day and extended the validity and the workflow started working again. But all the interfaces related with this workflow stopped receiving the data when workflow was not working. now we want to restore the data which was not sent.
    Is there any standard process where in we can retrigger all the data that was not sent during the time the workflow stopped working.
    If anyone faced similar scenarios please suggest me what can be done...
    Thanks,
    Anil

    Hi,
    May bee some one have locked that material using workflow in the background and had not unlocked it. If we are using workflow in background user WF_BATCH will execute the function.
    You should unlock that material and than use it.

  • NiDAQmx and 6220 board - Retriggering to start sampling analogue signals

    I have a M series 6220 board with labview 7.
    I want to measure analogue signals using a digital trigger - much like the examples given in the library shipped with ver.7. However I want to "retrigger" periodically so that I can sample the my analogue signal each time my external circuit sends a trigger pulse out. This retriggering facility continuing until I press a stop button.
    At the moment all I can do is get one triggered set of samples and then the VI stops.
    Any code advice or examples would be appreciated.

    Ive saved it to LV7.0 and attached a gif image in case you have any problems with the VI.

  • Problem in updating delta from cube to cube

    Dear experts,
    I created an delta upload from CUBE A to Cube B. I initialised it yesterday and did my first update. Today I did the second update from Cube A to B.
    But then i found there were some problem in my CUBE A. After I reload data into Cube a. I would like to redo the delta.
    I deleted the request of update load of today in CUBE B. And relauch the infopackage. But there was error message. System said the data is not coherent between datasource and target.
    What could be the problem?
    Thanks in advance!!

    So u want to reload delta from Cube A to Cube B right?
    The load is successful in Cube A?
    Then u need to reset the delta mart and force the request to red in cube B and delete the delta request from cube B and then retrigger the delta load

  • How can I increase the retriggering speed of 6534?

    I try to write into PCI 6534 buffer and generate the same output every time a trigger pulse is detected at the "start trigger" pin.
    I'm playing with retriggabble_output.vi example using 1 Mhz clock speed. The problem is that there is about 4msec dead time between two triggering events.
    How can I reduce this time? ( the program doesn't work without the "digital I/O wait" VI. So I set it to 1 msec).
    My second question is:
    How can I write a long data sequence onto the buffer and output one portion of the data every time a triggering event occurs? For instance, the data in the buffer is a 128 element array, and the output is only 32 elements upon a reception of a triggering signal.When the next triggering sign
    al is received the following 32 elements in the buffer are sent to the output port.
    Thank you,

    Hello,
    When trying to retrigger output with a 653x device, there is some amount of software overhead. This is unavoidable as the board itself does not support retriggering. However, there are two solutions to this problem, one is a fast software reset, and the other is to create a retriggered pulse train.
    If you want to use software for resetting the trigger, then there is a good example for doing this. The example uses a call that preserves a configuration setup. Take a look Here.
    If you would like to use hardware to solve this problem, take a look pd4?p_guid=B123AE0CBAFD111EE034080020E74861&p_node=DZ52321&p_source=External>Here. This example does require a counter timer board, which supports retriggering.

  • A problem with threads

    I am trying to implement some kind of a server listening for requests. The listener part of the app, is a daemon thread that listens for connections and instantiates a handling daemon thread once it gets some. However, my problem is that i must be able to kill the listening thread at the user's will (say via a sto button). I have done this via the Sun's proposed way, by testing a boolean flag in the loop, which is set to false when i wish to kill the thread. The problem with this thing is the following...
    Once the thread starts excecuting, it will test the flag, find it true and enter the loop. At some point it will LOCK on the server socket waiting for connection. Unless some client actually connects, it will keep on listening indefinatelly whithought ever bothering to check for the flag again (no matter how many times you set the damn thing to false).
    My question is this: Is there any real, non-theoretical, applied way to stop thread in java safely?
    Thank you in advance,
    Lefty

    This was one solution from the socket programming forum, have you tried this??
    public Thread MyThread extends Thread{
         boolean active = true;
         public void run(){
              ss.setSoTimeout(90);
              while (active){
                   try{
                        serverSocket = ss.accept();
                   catch (SocketTimeoutException ste){
                   // do nothing
         // interrupt thread
         public void deactivate(){
              active = false;
              // you gotta sleep for a time longer than the
              // accept() timeout to make sure that timeout is finished.
              try{
                   sleep(91);
              }catch (InterruptedException ie){
              interrupt();

    You can also try to provide a greater Priority to your player thread so that it gains the CPU time when ever it needs it and don't harm the playback.
    However a loop in a Thread and that to an infinite loop is one kind of very bad programming, 'cuz the loop eats up most of your CPU time which in turn adds up more delays of the execution of other tasks (just as in your case it is the playback). By witting codes bit efficiently and planning out the architectural execution flow of the app before start writing the code helps solve these kind of issues.
    You can go through [this simple tutorial|http://oreilly.com/catalog/expjava/excerpt/index.html] about Basics of Java and Threads to know more about threads.

    Groovemaker,
    Your Licznik class has a member m of type monitor, which has not been instantiated (in other words is null) hence, when calling m.put() you get NullPointerException. Please also mind, that using Thread.sleep(1000) is not an accurate way of measuring time.
    If I may, please use recommended for Java class naming conventions - some of your names use lower case, while other don't which is confusing to the reader.

  • Problem with threads within applet

    Hello,
    I got an applet, inside this applet I have a singleton, inside this singleton I have a thread.
    this thread is running in endless loop.
    he is doing something and go to sleep on and on.
    the problem is,
    when I refresh my IE6 browser I see more than 1 thread.
    for debug matter, I did the following things:
    inside the thread, sysout every time he goes to sleep.
    sysout in the singleton constructor.
    sysout in the singleton destructor.
    the output goes like this:
    when refresh the page, the singleton constructor loading but not every refresh, sometimes I see the constructor output and sometimes I dont.
    The thread inside the singleton is giving me the same output, sometime I see more than one thread at a time and sometimes I dont.
    The destructor never works (no output there).
    I don't understand what is going on.
    someone can please shed some light?
    thanks.
    btw. I am working with JRE 1.1
    this is very old and big applet and I can't convert it to something new.

    Ooops. sorry!
    I did.

  • Problem with Threads and a static variable

    I have a problem with the code below. I am yet to make sure that I understand the problem. Correct me if I am wrong please.
    Code functionality:
    A timer calls SetState every second. It sets the state and sets boolean variable "changed" to true. Then notifies a main process thread to check if the state changed to send a message.
    The problem as far I understand is:
    Assume the timer Thread calls SetState twice before the main process Thread runs. As a result, "changed" is set to true twice. However, since the main process is blocked twice during the two calls to SetState, when it runs it would have the two SetState timer threads blocked on its synchronized body. It will pass the first one, send the message and set "changed" to false since it was true. Now, it will pass the second thread, but here is the problem, "changed" is already set to false. As a result, it won't send the message even though it is supposed to.
    Would you please let me know if my understanding is correct? If so, what would you propose to resolve the problem? Should I call wait some other or should I notify in a different way?
    Thanks,
    B.D.
    Code:
    private static volatile boolean bChanged = false;
    private static Thread objMainProcess;
       protected static void Init(){
            objMainProcess = new Thread() {
                public void run() {
                    while( objMainProcess == Thread.currentThread() ) {
                       GetState();
            objMainProcess.setDaemon( true );
            objMainProcess.start();
        public static void initStatusTimer(){
            if(objTimer == null)
                 objTimer = new javax.swing.Timer( 1000, new java.awt.event.ActionListener(){
                    public void actionPerformed( java.awt.event.ActionEvent evt){
                              SetState();
        private static void SetState(){
            if( objMainProcess == null ) return;
            synchronized( objMainProcess ) {
                bChanged = true;
                try{
                    objMainProcess.notify();
                }catch( IllegalMonitorStateException e ) {}
        private static boolean GetState() {
            if( objMainProcess == null ) return false;
            synchronized( objMainProcess ) {
                if( bChanged) {
                    SendMessage();
                    bChanged = false;
                    return true;
                try {
                    objMainProcess.wait();
                }catch( InterruptedException e ) {}
                return false;
        }

    Thanks DrClap for your reply. Everything you said is right. It is not easy to make them alternate since SetState() could be called from different places where the state could be anything else but a status message. Like a GREETING message for example. It is a handshaking message but not a status message.
    Again as you said, There is a reason I can't call sendMessage() inside setState().
    The only way I was able to do it is by having a counter of the number of notifies that have been called. Every time notify() is called a counter is incremented. Now instead of just checking if "changed" flag is true, I also check if notify counter is greater than zero. If both true, I send the message. If "changed" flag is false, I check again if the notify counter is greater than zero, I send the message. This way it works, but it is kind of a patch than a good design fix. I am yet to find a good solution.
    Thanks,
    B.D.

  • Problem with threads running javaw

    Hi,
    Having a problem with multi thread programming using client server sockets. The program works find when starting the the application in a console using java muti.java , but when using javaw multi.java the program doesnt die and have to kill it in the task manager. The program doesnt display any of my gui error messages either when the server disconnect the client. all works find in a console. any advice on this as I havent been able to understand why this is happening? any comment would be appreciated.

    troy,
    Try and post a minimum code sample of your app which
    does not work.
    When using javaw, make sure you redirect the standard
    error and standard output streams to file.
    Graeme.Hi Graeme,
    I dont understand what you mean by redirection to file? some of my code below.
    The code works fine under a console, code is supposed to exit when the client (the other server )disconnects. the problem is that but the clientworker side of the code still works. which under console it doesnt.

  • Problem with Threads and "plase wait..."-Window

    Hi everyone,
    I have a problem that I'm not able to solve in any way... I have a time-consuming task (a file decryption) which I execute in a separate thread; I've used the SwingWorker class, like suggested by sun-tutorial, and it works right. The problem is that I have to wait that the decryption have finished before continuing with program-execution. Therefore I would like to display a "please wait"-window while the task runs. I've tryed all the possible ways I know but the problem is always the same: the waitWindow is displayed empty, the bounds are painted but the contents no; it's only painted when the decrypt-task has finished. Please help me, I have no more resources....
    decrypt-file code:
    public class DecryptFile {
      private String cryptedFileNameAndPath;
      private ByteArrayInputStream resultStream = null;
      // need for progress
      private int lengthOfTask;
      private int current = -1;
      private String statMessage;
      public DecryptFile(String encZipFileNameAndPath) {
        cryptedFileNameAndPath = encZipFileNameAndPath;
        //Compute length of task...
        // 0 for indeterminate
        lengthOfTask = 0;

        return this.resultStream;
