Problems runnig Uplink on Arch64

I currenyly having some problems running one of my favorite games, Uplink, on Arch64.
I've tried both installing Uplink via the AUR package and unpacking the uplink.zip manually from the CD and applying the patch from the AUR package, bot resulting in the same error.
Version 1.55 (RELEASE)
Compiled on Mar 19 2007 at 13:34:53
(code-C)(code-M)(code-T)
An Uplink Internal Error has occured: segmentation violation (SIGSEGV)
An Uplink Internal Error has occured during graphics initialization
An (unrecognised) Uplink Internal Error has occured
===================================================
See the /home/acid/.uplink/debug.log file for more informations on the error
./uplink: line 44: 11634 Segmentation fault $here/lib/uplink.bin.x86 "$@"
Also when i try to the official 1.54 patch, i get an error saying that the shared library libgtk-1.2.so.0 is missing. I figure it's because it needs a 32bit version of the library, I i can find no package, either in pacman or AUR containing gtk1 libraries.
I've tried just linking from /usr/lib32 to the 64bit library, but then I get an error saying:
error while loading shared libraries: libgtk-1.2.so.0: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64
Anyone on Arch64 who has succesfully installed and runned Uplink? Or is this a general problem?

paldepind wrote:Maybe this will work: forums.introversion.co.uk/uplink/viewtopic.php?t=38670&highlight=withour+gtk
Thanks, this at least solved the problem with running the updater
But I still get a segmentation fault whenever i try running the game. I might just end up trying to install the Windows version through WINE.
Has anyone actually got the native linux client running on arch64?

  • 3 problems (java,firefox,clock) - Arch64

    Hello,
first of all,i pacmaned j2re,then i went on konqueror settings>Configure Konqueror>Java & Javascript and gave the path to binary, but i still can't open java applets.
Secondly,i have access to internet with Konqueror but firefox 1.5.0.3 cant open any page.Any help ?
And last but not least on every reboot time is wrong!I fix it all the time.I have only arch on pc.
    Using Arch64.Thank you.

It is right that sun doesn't provide the java browser plugin for 64bit as a binary.
It should be possible, however, to build it from the jdk sources sun provides.
Other 64bit Distros do this already.
I've tried to do that this weekend, and I spent many hours at it, unfortunatelly so far without success. Building always fails at some really trivial piece of code, that I _think_ I understand, but gcc doesn't...
I will restart my efforts next weekend, since I can't spend much time during the week.
As far as I can make out the part where the build fails is not related to the plugin itself. Maybe I can make out a way to build only the plugin, and make it use the vm already present on the system.
Also, I'm a rather meagre programmer, maybe somebody of deeper knowledge could also look into that.
Otherwise I might try if using the plugin binary from one of the other 64bit distros work...
    We'll see next WE,
    Christian

  • Udev thinks there's a non-existent drive

    I have an error
[sdb] Asking for cache data failed
[sdb] Assuming drive cache: write through
that is repeatedly output to my tty1 console (it outputs roughly every 50 seconds) and to my error logs.
The odd thing is that I have no sdb drive, which is presumably why the request for the cache data is failing. This is a laptop with the only hard disk as sda and the CD drive as sr0. There's nothing about sdb even mentioned in fstab or mtab.
But if I plug in my USB drive it is attached to sdc, so it thinks there's an sdb of some sort. When I plugged it in, I had similar messages:
[sdc] No Caching mode page present
[sdc] Assuming drive cache: write through
which was also displayed to tty1.
I was running a system fully updated as of that morning. udev had been updated the previous day so I reverted it back and the phantom drive problem went away. I assume this is a udev problem, both thinking that sdb exists and outputting annoying messages to tty1.
I've looked at the threads on here and the top results on Google (eg, a thread here. On LQ), but none of them has been useful for identifying the cause of the problem nor for suppressing the output. I tried doing update-usbids.sh and update-pciids, but that didn't fix anything. initscripts was also updated at the same time and I looked at that, but saw nothing in the changes that looked possibly related to udev.
    So my questions are:
Why does udev think this phantom sdb exists and how to I eliminate it?
On a side note, why on earth does it output on tty1, and how do I stop that?

I have problem with mass storage device here too. It is strange because a lot of people does not seem to have this problem. I use Arch64. Are you using too Arch64? That could explain why so few people are having this problem?
I don't know if my problem is the same but I can't read anymore some of my usb mass storage devices!
Here I can read a USB stick with a single partition:
Feb 19 10:31:25 localhost kernel: [22804.760501] sd 10:0:0:0: [sdc] Write Protect is off

Feb 19 10:31:25 localhost kernel: [22804.797761] sd 10:0:0:0: [sdc] Attached SCSI removable disk
and things go well, I can read the usbstick in Nautilus etc...
I have a external harddrive that have more than one partition, with linux partitions. fdsik recocgnise the disk so that I can find the right partitions to mount and I can mount manually one the partition which holds a reiserfs but it fails to mount one of the other partition. I don't remember the type of this partition ext2, ext3 or reiserfs...
dmesg gives this messages when plugging in the external HD:

I really don'tknow if my problem is correlated to the one discussed here, it seems different but it is strange that two new rare problems involving mass storage appears almost at the same time!
On february 18th udev and device-mapper have been updated:

    [2012-02-18 15:16] upgraded device-mapper (2.02.88-1 -> 2.02.90-1)
I think the external disk on which I'm having a problem external is with logical partitions.

  • Nitrox, eclipse 3.1 RC3, gentoo, amd64

    hi,
I have problem runnig NItroX on 64/bit platform.
When I started eclipse I get error message:
    JVM terminateted. Exit code=1
    ...jdk1.5.0_03/java
    -jar ...startup.jar
    -os linux
    -ws gtk
    -arch x86_64
    -launcher ...eclipse
    I can't start eclipse.
Can I install NitroX on 64/bit platform?
I tryed instal Nitro with Eclipse 3.1 RC1. I got the same error message.
    thanx for help. rado

Whatever the latest build (NitroX version 2.1.0) you have supports Eclipse 3.1 (M4 to M6).To reproduce the problem, it would be helpful if you can describe in steps.
FYI: Refer http://m7.com/whatsnew.htm for information regarding the latest build.
    Thanks

  • I cannot get anything to play the who thing. What can i do?

When i load anything on you tube, the video stops after a second. I cannot I cannot get anything to play the who thing. What can i do?

I'm sorry but what is a who thing?
If you are just having problems getting youtube to play on your phone, I would start with shutting down all the apps sitting in the multitask tray, then I would do a reset, and if that doesn't work I would do a network settings reset.
If you are having problems runnig Youtube over your own wifi network, I would throw in a router restart and see if that helps.

The default gateway statement does not provided routing capability. You need to create a static default route for this to happen:
    ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 164.156.24.1
However, if you are unable to ping work station to workstation that are connected to ports directly on the switch then there is another problem.
With the workstations connected are you able to ping the respective Vlan interfaces associated with these devices?
If you do a "show IP interface brief" do the VLAN interfaces indicate they are up?
Are the workstations connected to ports in the appropriate VLAN and are these interfaces up and do they have the proper default gateway (VLAN IP) configured?
All things to check at this point, and then proceed form there.

  • [SOLVED] Arch64, Opera and plugins library problem

I have Arch64 with Opera 64-bit as default browser. I have succesfully installed 32-bit flashplugin and it works nicely. The only problem is that fonts cannot be read from the flash player context menu and Open File dialog opened from flash player. The problem is that flashplugin tries to load 64-bit GTK from /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/ and it fails. 32-bit version is installed and it's located in /opt/lib32/usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/.
    Gtk-WARNING **: /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/engines/libmurrine.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64
    Gtk-WARNING **: /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/engines/libpixmap.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64
Also I have library loading problem with totem-plugin. It cannot find libxul.so and libxpcom.so, but both library files are located in /usr/lib/xulrunner-1.9.0.1/. The plugin loads fine if I create links to both files in /usr/lib/. But that doesn't seem like right solution to me.
    $ ldd libtotem-mully-plugin.so
    libglib-2.0.so.0 => /usr/lib/libglib-2.0.so.0 (0x00007f94e19d9000)
    libtotem-plparser-mini.so.10 => /usr/lib/libtotem-plparser-mini.so.10 (0x00007f94e17d6000)
    libxul.so => not found
    libxpcom.so => not found
    libplds4.so => /usr/lib/libplds4.so (0x00007f94e15d2000)
What would be a most elegant way of solving these two library loading problems?
I think that symbolic links and moving files are not the most elegant way to solve the problem. Maybe some environment variable or some configuration setting would solve the problem (LDPATH comes to mind, but it seems that it doesn't work).
EDIT: I wasn't sure in which section to post this question, so feel free to move it if necessary.

I have solved my problem and I will post my solution because it can be usefull to others.
First the problem with flashplugin and GTK library path. Opera uses operapluginwrapper scirpt to detect if the plugin is 32-bit or 64-bit and after detection it uses operapluiginwrapper-ia32-linux for 32-bit or operapluginwrapper-native for 64-bit plugins. operapluiginwrapper-ia32-linux loads the 32-bit flashplugin in my case which requires GTK, but it incorectly tries to load it form /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/ where 64-bit version of GTK resides.
The solution is to set the GTK_PATH environment variable to point to /opt/lib32/usr/lib/gtk-2.0/ where 32-bit version resides. But if you set it globaly it will result in problems with other 64-bit applications. So the correct solution is to add following lines on the bottom of the operapluginwrapper script above the exec line:
    case "$wrapper" in
    *ia32*)
    export GTK_PATH="/opt/lib32/usr/lib/gtk-2.0"
    export PANGO_RC_FILE="/opt/lib32/config/pango/pangorc"
    esac
In this way the 32-bit paths will be active only for operapluginwrapper-ia32-linux process.
I have solved the other problem with totem-plugin requesting libxul.so and libxpcom.so, but the solution idoesn't matter because, although totem-plugin loads coreclty it doesn't work in opera. I have installed mplayer-plugin which works as it should. Also gecko-mediaplayer works correctly with opera, I have tested them both. Install one of the two plugins that work, and you will be fine.

  • Uplink problems from UCS 6128 FI

    Hi,
We have one demo UCS system. It was working pretty smoth, we take it to few presentations etc etc.
Few days we cleaned system, and decided to reconfigure and deploy.
    Overview :
Cisco UCS blade chasis, 2 b200m2 servers with VIC adapters, 2x6128 FI.
Uplinks are only 1 Gb and GLC-T modules are used for uplinks.
Problem now is that as soon as i configure port as uplink and configure it for 1 Gbps, port changes to admin down, and no connections to upper switches are available.
We decided to upgrade to latest software and now is 2.0(4a). Conection from VIC, through IOM and to server ports is ok, but uplinks are still not working.
Upper switch  c2950 has ports that connects to ucs as trunk, everything as usual.
Just to clarfy, this exact setup was active before and working.
    Errors from UCS are :

Any idea? Everything is connected as before, it used to work flawless.

well, server ports are up. I know this is uplink ports problem, but really cannot see where the problem is :). Ports on northbound switch that ucs connects to are trunk ports, vlans are defined on that switch.
I also suspect sfp's (cisco glc-t) but it seems pretty strange that 2 sfp modules are malfunctioning. They used to work pretty neat.
Just to mention we have same UCS in production and it is working, config is same, ports are same, nxos outputs for ethernet uplinks are same..
Just to check somenthing i created two hba's (we do have FC expansion card, but ucs is not connected to FC switches), and vif paths for FC are up...seems that this is releated to ethernet problem solely.

  • SF 300-24P uplink problem

    Dear Team,
We bought a cisco POE Switch (Cisco SF 300-24P) from a reseller before two months, and we are facing a problem when we connect just an uplink on Telephone network and it is a standalone network and there is no Vlans connected to this network, the other two switches on this network are LINKSYS SRW224P (Old Product), and the problem is when we dial from POE phones like Linksys SPA922; the tone gone and we can’t hear the one who we are calling and he don’t hear us, but when we disconnect this uplink cable from the Switch above every things come back normal.
    Please advise.
    Many thanks

it would be good to see a topology of your network to help troubleshooting.
is the uplink between your switches? if so, you could have a loop in your network,
do all the activity lights light up on your switches whan you plug in the uplink?
Verify all the cables between the switches and make sure you don't have a loop,
virtual server hosts with multiple nics, unmanaged switches and hubs can also cause this.
You can also look in the logs to see if there are spanning tree errors, or
look at spanning tree status to see if there are ports that have a 'blocked' state, that would indicate spanning tree has shut down a port,
if the uplink is to the telephone network... is this an analog line?
you say standalone network, so I assume it's not an ethernet cable...

  • Arch64 problems

Don't really know where to report all this but all I've experienced since I've tried out the Arch64 version I've had problems and problems and problems.
First installation my network wasn't detected, switched cables and tried everything with the hardware. Couldn't find the modules.
Motherboard is M2N-E MCP55, nForce. Tried manually loading forcedeth and all other options I've read about by running between computers.
Secondly, I reformated my harddrive again (I did a clean install the first time around) and this time everything worked fine until I installed X.org.
I can't use either my keyboard or mouse when KDM start (I use to use GDM and Gnome before but figured I'd try out KDE again, so)
Now I get errors about keyboard modules not found and mouse modules not found.
Didn't have hotplugging, or any other auto-detection at first, but then I tried it and it still didn't work and the modules it's looking for simply ain't there.
I've had the best experience with Arch i686 over any other Linux dist but with Arch64 - this is TOO MUCH!
How can this be so random? I bet the next time I install it my gpu won't work as it would.
So, if there's someone with any ideas or input abot these things related to 64 and how it sucks ass in comparison to the standard version, please, give me a reason to give it another go.
I get the idea to do it yourself which is one of the best part of Arch, but to get bugs and loads of bugs and really no idea what is causing them (since Arch runs flawlessly and does on my server as well) reading long fixes in Links really isn't my cup of tea at 3am in the morning because it simply is alot of stuff that isn't "fixed", or whatever you call it.
And, I installed from FTPs so everything is up to date.
    Any suggestions?
X.0rg.log file says can't find mouse or driver kdb(which I haven't even selected)
I just added "hal fam kdm" to the rc.conf daemon list so far.
    I installed
pacman -Sy xorg (i selected everything in every group)
pacman -Sy kde (i selected everything in every group)
    pacman -Sy kdebase kdebase-workspace
    pacman -Sy hal fam
So, what I am I missing? I did the exact thing just with GDM and Gnome in i686 and it works. Why all these trouble for something like this?

Try installing xf86-input-keyboard and xf86-input-mouse. I doubt this is an Arch64 problem. Sounds more like you forgot to install some packages. If that's the case, the i686 version isn't going to behave any differently.

  • BEFW11S4 uplink problem

I have a BEFW11S4 wireless router that I am trying to network with a D-LinkDGS-1005D (Gb switch).  I have tried the uplink port from the Linksys and a regular port from the Linksys.  I have tried different ports on the D-Link but nothing has worked.  Any ideas on my problem?

Hi… I think you need to check the Ethernet cable that you are using. Get a Cross-Over Ethernet Cable. Reduce the MTU on the router and try again. Connect a PC to the switch and assign static IP address on it in the range of the router and try to ping to the router. Reduce the Card speed (link speed and duplex) of the Ethernet adapter on the PC, if needed.

  • SRW2024 + SRW2048 Uplink problem

    Hi all.
    I have two switches SRW2024 and SRW2048
I had connected on SRW2048 (Switch 1) only PC and on SRW 2024 (Switch2)  iscsi SAN, server ESX and a couple of NAS.
    I use to uplink port 12 of 2024 and 48 of 2048.
Now in this situation when i connect from my PC (Switch 1) to SERVER ESX and try to upload a datastore the speed is very slow.
If i change the position of my ethernet cable PC from Switch 1 to Switch 2 che connection is perfect, because not pass from the uplink and go direct on the switch.
I think the problem is on the uplink cable, i try to change the cable and the port, use optical miniGb... but the result not change.
For now i don' t have any VLAN, use normal setting default on the switch without trunk or other settings.
Another thing... if i use 2 normal switch  without managment... work perfect, the problem is the setting of uplink managment on SRW2024\2048.
    Any Idea ?
Thanks to all for any help.

    Hello,
What you are describing is quite odd, because when you aren't crossing VLANs everything should really happen at wire speed, there may be a bit of a slowdown because of the extra link, but it should be almost unnoticeable.
A few things I would try are a different cable for the uplink, make sure it is Cat5E, since Cat5 can give you some issues with a gigabit connection.  I would also try setting the duplex and port speed manually to 1000/full just to eliminate auto-negotiation as a problem.
I would also try using a different set of ports to connect the two switches if the issue persists.
Just to confirm, right now all of your devices are in the same subnet and VLAN correct?
How much of a speed difference are we talking about here?  Can you give some transfer speed numbers for PC to datastore on same switch and when they are on different switches?
    Hope some of that helps,

  • Nasty looking problem on arch64

    Hi,
    I've been recieving the following message over and over in my messages file since last night;
    Sep 13 11:12:04 cumberdale ata4: EH complete
After first recieving it I restarted my machine and found that the slash partition was totally corrupted. I've rebuilt now and the error has just reappeared, has anyone seen this before?
    Thanks,
    Barry

so you've reinstalled and your still getting the error, is that your point? If that's the case then it surely isn't an arch64 error, much more like a hwd failure.
your not really making to much sense to me. Maybe you could explain your problem a little more in detail? Like where the error is being reported, slash partition? what about it? what fs type is it using? etc...
Sorry, just woke up. Never make too much sense in the morning
Last night after noticing the error and rebooting, my ext3 filesystem on the partition that holds / everything was corrupted, I could run some binaries but others couldn't be found. (My /home & /boot are on different partitions and they are fine). One thing I noticed was that on my fallback kernel everything worked perfectly.
The error is being reported in /var/log/messages.log and apart from that error I haven't found anything else relating to it except that my machine isn't performing as well as it usually does. I'm afraid to reboot just now as I suspect things will go haywire again.

  • Arch64 and 2 problems

    hi folks,
    first problem
i've just recently installed arch64 and read through the many pages of "world of warcraft" search in the forum.
when i run it i get an error that says "Please install a 3D accelerator card with dual-TMU support." according to the gentoo wiki, it says to use a different nvidia drivers so i pulled nvidia-169 from the testing repo and that still happen.  has anyone gotten wow to run?  i'll try to set up a chroot environment later.
    second problem.
installed mythtv and when i scan for channels i would get an error like so
    mythtv-setup: xcb_lock.c:33: _XCBUnlockDisplay: Assertion `xcb_get_request_sent(dpy->xcb->connection) == dpy->request' failed.
tried reinstall libxcb and it doesn't seem to help.
    any ideas?
solved the TMU issue, now wow run in a huge resolution 3050x1050 because i have twinview setup.  gotta figure out a way to get it back to 1680x1050

I saw your latency thingy... though that aint so bad
    PING fk-in-f147.google.com (209.85.129.147) 56(84) bytes of data.

Pinging from norway to... wherever that node is.
and compare that to a norwegian host
    PING www.sau.no (194.63.248.23) 56(84) bytes of data.
    64 bytes from web.domeneshop.no (194.63.248.23): icmp_seq=1 ttl=47 time=86.6 ms
all in all, you should not be so annoyed unless your used to sub 10 ms ofc.. but this is still very quick for a webhost, atleast i think so.
