Problems running FCP7 on Intel Xeon w Snow Leopard

So I am trying to install FCP7 onto my QuadCore Intel Xeon MacPro, after doing a FCS remover of fcp6 and then re-installing for 7 there are many issues that come up. Only FCP will run and only sometimes, DVDStuPro quits without opening at all. And when in FCP7 and trying to Log and Transfer it crashes. I try to re-install but still no luck. Is there a helpful patch or any other knowledge on this issue?

1. Deleting FCP Preferences:
Open a Finder window. Set the view mode to columns:
Click the house icon that has your name next to it.
Click the folder "Library" in the next column.
Find and click the folder "Preferences" in the next column.
Find and click the folder "Final Cut Pro User Data" in the next column.
Move the files "Final Cut Pro 7.0 Prefs", "Final Cut Pro Obj Cache" and "Final Cut Pro Prof Cache" to the Trash and empty it.
When you have a stable set of preference files, download [Preference Manager|http://www.digitalrebellion.com/pref_man.htm] to back them up.
2. Run Software Update to check for patches. Install them.
3. Use Disk Utility to repair permissions on your system drive. Restart the computer afterwards.

Microsoft Office 2004 (Word) unable to save files
I have been running Office 2004 on my Intel iMac with Snow Leopard for some time and all of a sudden I cannot save a document. Word just stopped responding and I have to force quit. I can open Word and create a new document but I cannot save it. I reinstalled Word but that didn’t help. Then went to the Internet and found at least one other Mac user having the same problem which it suggests is caused by a recent Mac Security Update:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac/forum/macoffice2004-macword/word-2004-wil l-not-open-or-save-documents/b04eb870-9b0d-4f3b-bb47-b122301e36f6
So I check for a new Mac Security Update and sure enough there was one. I downloaded it and now Word seems to be working, as it should. I can both open and save files. The only problem remaining is that when I open Word I get the following error message “An unexpected error occurred while trying to load the Microsoft Framework library”. I contacted Apple but they were unable to help.
How can I get rid of this error message?

Look, I realize you might have to get your machine working, so this is how you revert back.
    Restore proceedure to pre-Security Update 2012-001 v 1.0 & v 1.1
#1 Backup your personal data off the machine.
Backup files off the computer (not to TimeMachine). If you don't have a external drive, get one and connect to the USB/Firewire port and simply drag and drop copy your User folder to the external drive, it will copy all your files. It's best to have two backups of your data off the machine when trying to restore.
Disconnect all drives now to prevent any mistakes from occuring.
    #2 Reinstall OS X 10.6 from disk
Get out your 10.6 install disk and make sure it's clean and polished (very soft cloth and a bit of rubbing alcohol, no scratches) If your disk is borked, you'll have to order a new one from Apple with your serial number.
Hold c boot off the 10.6 disk (wired keyboard, internal optical drive), use Disk Utility First Aid to >Repair Disk  of your internal drive  (do not format or erase!!), Quit DU and simply re-install 10.6.
Note: Simply reinstalling 10.6 version from disk (without erasing the drive) only replaces 10.6.8 with 10.6.x and bundled Apple programs, won't touch your files (backup anyway)  or most programs, unless they installed a kext file into OS X itself. (only a few on average do this)
    #3 Update to 10.6.8 without Security Update 2012-001 v1.0 or v1.1
Reboot and log in, update to 10.6.8 via Software Update, but EXCLUDE THE Security Update 2012-001 by checkinig the details and unchecking the blue check box.
#4 Reinstall any non-working third party programs
When you reboot, make sure to reinstall any programs that require kext files installed into OS X, you'll know, they won't work when you launch them or hang for some reason as they are missing the part they installed into OS X.
If for some freakish reason you get gray screen at any time when booting (possible it might occur when you reinstall older programs), hold the shift key down while booting (Safe Mode, disables kext files) and update your installed third party software so it's compatible with 10.6.8.

    That's it really.

  • Can't print from Intel Mac w/Snow Leopard to HP 2600

Can't print from Intel Mac w/Snow Leopard to HP 2600.  Upgraded from OS 10.4 and printer showed on printer list along with an Epson scanner. but continually shows printer as offline.  I finally deleted the HP Color Laserjet 2600n from the printer list.  When I attempted to re-install it, it doesn't find the printer at all.  I haven't attempted to use the scanner.  I also went to HP and downloaded the driver, no luck.  I've restarted the computer multiple times, tried it with the printer on, and printer off, as well as pulled the usb cable in and out both ends.  No error message on the printer display and it gpes through normal warmup until it shows the green light.  I run software update and it shows no updates needed.  Help!

When you press print the first window is pretty basic.
When you select print on that the next window should have an advanced option.
Click that and see if any of the options in the 3rd dropdown box allow you to specify the 'paper tray'.
    AC "
In this new windaow, click "advanced", go to "paper type/quality" and choose " best" and a photo paper. Then you will be able to choose a paper source (photo tray).
Once you have these settings, under presets do "save as", and you can choose the preset instead of going to advanced.
If you have the latest software and drivers downloaded from HP, this will work.

  • Running 10.5.8 on Intel Core Duo, Snow Leopard disc (purchased from Apple) won't work

I am running 10.5.8 on my iMac and want to upgrade to Lion. Was told to upgrade to Snow Leopard first. Purchased the Snow Leopard install DVD from Apple, but it begins the installation process then says CD is dirty. Hooked up an external DVD drive and tried again, got the same message. I literally unwrapped the disc and put it directly into the drive...it couldn't have gotten so scratched or dirty that it wouldn't work.
    Here is my system info:
    Model Name:          iMac
      Model Identifier:          iMac4,1
      Processor Name:          Intel Core Duo
      Processor Speed:          1.83 GHz
      Number Of Processors:          1
      Total Number Of Cores:          2
      L2 Cache:          2 MB
      Memory:          1.5 GB
Any ideas on what I can do? I've read that there were tons of problems with this disc/upgrade...
    Thanks!

Call the place you bought Snow Leopard from, and ask for them to replace the disk as it or your DVD drive is obviously defective.   As others have noted, you can't upgrade to Lion regardless.
That said, before you install 10.6, be sure you really are prepared for it: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2455
And if after getting a replacement 10.6 disk it fails to install, verify your PRAM battery is not over 4 years old, and that your optical drive isn't dirty by bringing it in for service.

A few days ago I noticed that safari icon was in "low resolution", so then I deleted and put a new one in place, but after tahat I've been notice that otheres are doing the same, on my macbook pro (running snow leopard) the things are worse, sometimes even the shortcuts to applications and downloads show with the same problem. • Problems with Harddisk WDC WD1001FALS-40K1B0 under Snow Leopard 10.6.2

    Hello all together,
I'am a User of an IMac Early 2009 as you can see in my Profile,
i bought it with Leopard, everything worked fine. But since i bought my Apple because i became to know about Snow Leopard, i bought that upate also, so now I'am Using 10.6.2 and all the latest firmware, Performance Updates and all that stuff, the Software Updater gave me as well.
    My Problem is the following:
From time to time i end up at booting in the grey screen and see the spinning wheel, for no known reason. Desktop doesn't appear. Always the same things: I boot from the install dvd and go into diskutility and it says: Macintosh HD can't be repaired, please do a new install. Since I'am new to Apple and i switched because i didn't want to waste time about windows configurations nor Linux i choosed Apple because it's well known as Stable, and i readed much articles about Apple working on even more stable system called Snow Leopard, so to my suprise this is not what i wanted: I can't imagine i have to do all 2 or 3 Months a complete reinstall and restore of my (thanks i got a external drive) timemachine backup. And no, it is not connected at bootup, i tried many things, googled around no results that helped me. Disconnected everything from usb at bootup, still. It's also not that i do some hacks or dirty work on the shell (since for now i'am not familar witht this) nor did i install some maybe incompatible software, all i use is mail, safari and iWorks. Yes i did use bootcamp but even on harddisk partitioning without any kind of bootcamp partition it still appears from time to time. This is really bad, especially because i wanted a system that my wife can use 100% safe as well, and she does only know where the Power On Button is, so no way for trying to explain her, how to restore nor to repair things...
Because of my google results i think this is a harddisk hardware issue of my:
WDC WD1001FALS-40K1B0 i already have been at my apple store and got another one (same kind of harddisk) but now again the same issue... I found on the internet articles if this spinning wheel and progress bar appears, it means the os detected some bad harddisk structure or kind of, so what can i do? I did also install the Performance Update which should solve "some harddisk" issues but still the same, now i'am hoping for 10.6.3 to help me maybe. I did the Hardware Diagnostic and also since i own Apple Care Protection Plan i used the Deluxe tool which tested also the complete Hardware but says me also: all is fine, i did even the longer taking Harddisk Structure test, also fine.
At the moment my iMac is at another Apple certified hardware shop and get's tested again, i was thinking if this continues, if i'am able to get a harddisk replacement (same size and technical quality but maybe another manufacturer) and my harddisk doesn't make even any sound that would tell me like slowing down or clicking (meaning its dead) also after fresh install everything works again.
Is this a well known issue?
Some background information on my Hardware:
    iMac9,1 Early 2009
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.93 GHz
    Geschwindigkeit: 2 x 2GB DDR3 RAM, 1067 MHz
    Harddisk: WDC WD1001FALS-40K1B0
    NVidia MCP79 AHCI
    Boot-ROM-Version: IM91.008D.B08
    Chipsatz-Modell: NVIDIA GeForce GT 130
I'am really thankfull for every help on this.

    HI,
i bought it with Leopard, everything worked fine. But since i bought my Apple because i became to know about Snow Leopard, i bought that upate also, so now I'am Using 10.6.2
If you did not repair disk permissions after upgrading to Snow Leopard v10.6, then do that now.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and *restart your Mac.*
Now try booting from your SL disc and run Disk Utility to see if you can repar the startup disk if necessary. (Applications/Utilities) See if it can repair the disk if in fact it reports errors. If you see this again, " Macintosh HD can't be repaired, please do a new install"... try Safe Mode.
Try Starting up in Safe Mode and run Disk Utility there. S try Safe Mode.
    What is Safe Mode
    Also, try Resetting the PRAM

  • Problems using Migration Assistant from Tiger to Snow Leopard

I want to scavenge files and apps from a Power Mac G4 (PowerMac3,5) running Tiger 10.4.11 before I turn it out to pasture. Most of them were migrated years ago to another system and have been updated and upgraded over the years, but a few apps have no modern equivalent. Now I want to do one last "pull" to pick up anything left behind all those years ago, particularly apps for which the install discs are in deep storage at best and possibly discarded.
I'm trying to use Migration Assistant in a nearly virgin Snow Leopard 10.6.8 system (installed fresh from 10.6.3 retail optical disc, updated over the network, lightly tested). It has a single admin account, no other user accounts.
Possible complicating factors: the Snow Leopard system is Server running under Parallels 10.1.4 on Yosemite 10.10.2 on an Early 2008 Mac Pro (MacPro3,1) with  third-party USB3 controller in a PCI slot.
At present, I'm using a portable drive with both FW and USB interfaces as an intermediate storage (FW on the G4 to clone the system drive, USB on the Mac Pro to connect it to the virtual machine). SL sees the drive just fine, can copy files from it, and can even run apps from it. Migration Assistant sees the drive and offers to migrate from it.
    Two problems:
    1. No matter what user(s) I select for migration, Migration Assistant tells me it is a duplicate account. Proposing an account name never used before does not help. As a result, no user files can be migrated. (Obviously, I could copy them in other ways, but I think MA should do a more thorough job.)
    2. Migration Assistant offers to migrate absolutely no applications. Even applications that SL will run from the drive cannot be migrated. (Some are PPC apps, but SL will run them via Rosetta. Others are Universal apps.)
Am I expecting too much of Migration Assistant?
Is the Migration Assistant shipped with SL Server (and updated through Software Update) not capable of running under SL Server?
Should SL MA refuse to migrate any applications from a Power Mac, even Universal applications?
    Am I missing something obvious?
Is there key information I have omitted?

    markwmsn wrote:
...It's not the twenty bucks, it's the principle of the thing.
Not sure what you meant by that statement.  Although this "principle" may be more important to you than the twenty bucks, I know that my time is worth more to me than your twenty bucks!
    What apps are you using?
    markwmsn wrote:
I was able to install Snow Leopard (client) in a partition, and it was able to migrate users and many applications from the G4 clone on the portable drive. Some of the apps even run.
Then I went back to my SL Server virtual machine and tried to migrate FROM the SL client partition. Migration Assistant showed the same symptoms as importing from the clone directly (no apps offered, bogus "dup user" errors). I am forced to conclude that either (a) Migration Assistant 3.0.4/1.1 is broken when run on SL Server or (b) my new SL Server installation is broken. I'm either going to have to boot back and forth to run the old apps or find their installation media and reinstall them in my SL Server virtual machine.
Even worse, I realized that one of the antique programs I still haven't dug everything out of is a Classic application that had to be kludged to survive Y2K!
    Thanks again, MIchaelLAX.
Anybody else have any clever ideas?
So, glad to see that Migration Assistant did work for you in Snow Leopard...
    More clever ideas:
Install Snow Leopard client in Parallels and use its Migration Assistant:

Here is a recent post I assembled for running Classic apps on Intel Macs:
With the newer Intel Macs, you have to run a Classic emulator such as SheepShaver, which requires you to extract the Mac ROMs from your older Classic Mac and then install Mac OS 9.
A related program is Chubby Bunny, which comes bundled with all of that included (google the term "Classic-On-Intel v 4.0.1 chubby bunny").

  • Pre-intel iMac installing Snow Leopard?

Have been told by Apple that the Serial Number for my pre-Intel iMac enables me to install Snow Leopard (currently running 10.4.11). Is this straightforward or should everything be backed up before the installation? I had previously been led to believe that it wasn't possible to instal SL on this Mac. Confused and needing some clarity. Thanks.

Snow Leopard requires an Intel Processor.  Here are the specs:
    General requirements
Mac computer with an Intel processor
    1GB of memory
    5GB of available disk space
    DVD drive for installation
Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.
Either they were wrong or your system does have an intel processor.  You should be able to determine that with "about this Mac".

  • Printing problems with Epson R2880, works fine on Snow Leopard

I have 3 iMacs running Snow Leopard which comes with driver version 8. These can print just fine to the Epson but as soon as I connect it to my Mac Mini running Lion it refuses to print. I get this error "Printing has been canceled because the paper source selected in theprinter driver does not match the paper loaded in the printer."
This is nonsense, I only use A4 and A3 but both refuse to print, furthermore there is no paper setting on the driver.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Been googling like mad but while I have seen others with this problem I have not seen anyone with a sollution. I can print just fine to other printers. Have started from the emergency partition and repaired permissions, re-installed latest combo update, and even downloaded the whole epson update from Apple, no dice.
    Help!

First, the error message is probably telling you that the paper source or paper requested does not match what has been loaded in the printer and has been selected in the printers menu. That means you might have chosen the wrong paper when initially loading the printer. This printer relies on the user to chose the proper media when loading and then to match that when setting up to print through whatever software printing the file. Open the queue in System Prefs, Printer, Queue and delete the job that is stopping the printer; close tab. If the printer is stuck on the job, go to the printer menu and cancel job.
Be sure that you have installed the proper driver. If in doubt, remove the printer from the Printer list in System Prefs. Download the newest driver software from Epson, install and add the printer in the System Prefs, Printers. The correct driver should say something like "Epson SP2880".
PS.... have the printer's manual handy. It has most of this in there.

I have a MacBook that I am trying to upgrade to Snow Leopard so that I may upgrade it then to Lion to make better use of my iPad and some of the n we tools that Apple has made available in Lion.  I have checked and double checked that my MacBook meets the hardware expectations, and it does exceed the ones for Snow Leopard.  however, every time that I try to run the install disk it tells me that the program is not supported by the current architecture.  I have even tried to backend the processes by opening the install folder with "View Package Contents" option, but it still gives the same error message!  Someone please help!

Obtain one of these Snow Leopard DVDs instead. They are not expensive.
