Problems running PC game with bootcamp, graphics card problem?

I have searched extensively on answers to this question and I've gotten some vague ideas of what to do, but not a direct answer.
I recently installed a copy of Windows on my 15in Macbook Pro (the ones that came out right before the latest ones in late August/Early October 2008 or whatever). I did this in order to play Final Fantasy XI Online on my laptop. The machine is more than capable of running the game and I've read forum posts that had said that it works fine through bootcamp. I installed the game and was playing it just fine until one day the game began to lag really bad in areas where there were a lot of people or in other words something very demanding of the memory/graphics. I don't mean internet speed lag, I mean the computer would slow the game down to a crawl and the sound would be sort of garbled like it was some sort of feedback. It would happen periodically or if some sort of animation would start (spellcasting, etc)
I've tried everything from changing the settings of the game so that it's not as demanding to installing modified drivers for the graphics card (256mb Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT). I read that there may be some problems with the graphics and sound cards communicating which causes lag?
The computer also gets unnaturally hot while I run the game/windows in general. Could it be a cooling problem?
Please help!

  • Imac 2008 20" wont start up. Has no chime, no display but the fans are running. Has a suspected graphics card problem. Any help would be appreciated.

After removing the graphics card to have a look at it, due to a suspected graphics problem, my imac 2008 20" wont now start. There is no chime, no display but the fans run, starting off slowly then when turned off by the power button and then turned back on with power button held in, the speed of the fans ramps right up. Any ideas?

    Hi,
My iPhone 4 (GSM) started making a color bands about two minimeters flush with the bottom edge of the screen and about a month and a half later the picture started to bounce and now it appears on the screen that I could call artifacts. I'm sure that the problem comes from the graphics card.

Yes it does. You just need to obtain a SIM card from your carrier.

  • !!! Problem with 2nd graphic card !!!

Hi I have a big problem with my laptop.
I have an HP TouchSmart tm2-2000el Notebook, with Windows 7 64-bit.
2nd Graphic card is ATI RADEON HD Series 5450.
When I activate this hardware from Control Panel desktop goes black but every function are ok (sounds, illumination and all cmds).
So I must restart my computer in Safe Mode disactivate ATI Radeon HD 5450 and restart it.
Laptop run but only with Intel graphic card.
I tried to search update drivers on Amd/ATI site: amd online software reveals Ati radeon HD 5000 Series but after download Ati software tell me that is impossible to install drivers because there isn't an ATI Radeon HD 5000 Series.
So I have low graphics and CPU with 69°C because intel graphic card runs over...
I haven't found any driver for my model of laptop on HP Assistance.
    Touchsmart spec
    How can I do now?
    Thanks
    Alberto

This is the right driver for switchable graphics...do not also install the Intel only driver, you do not need both.

  • Problem with discrete graphic card and DirectX 11

If I try any application to launch with discrete graphic card (nvidia geforce 740m) that using directx 11 it always crashes.
There no problems with directx 9 on on this graphic card.
There are no problems with integrated graphic card whether application using directx 9 or 11. Problem occurs only with discrete graphic card and directx 11.
    The things that i did:
    - Reinstall Windows
    - Install latest driver updates (I also tried to uninstall latest and install recomended driver downloaded from the oficial HP support 'driver download' web page)
    - different options on nvidia control panel 3d settings page
I also tried microsoft 'Direct3D Tutorial Win32 Sample' source code to build and debug. It is failed in function IDXGISwapChain:resent with code DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED and ID3D10Device::GetDeviceRemovedReason returns DXGI_ERROR_DRIVER INTERNAL_ERROR.
Is there any chance that is not hardware malfunction?

    @Enegue ,
Hello and thank you for posting on the HP support forum.  In your situation I would consider keeping with Directx 9.  The reason I say this is your notebook is not a performance gaming machine.  It is designed to be fore general use.
Some cards will notice issues when upgrading to direct 11 from a lower level.
Not to mention with your notebook you will want to stick with the drivers only provided from the HP support site.  They are proprietary for the notebook and could be the reason why the directx 11 is not working.
Here is the link to your systems supported drivers.

  • Problem with nvidia graphic card, nvlddmkm.sys

I have a HP m9000 , originally it had Vista, it started to fail and display the error nvlddmkm.sys (on a blue screen od death), i intalled Windows 8 in hope the problem get resolve. but the problem still persist. At the beginning on W8 it looks like working fine, but suddenly it started to display "controller not responding", and then it is displayin "Something goes wrong with your graphic card".
I found on internet a fix; expanding the nvlddmkm.sy_ and replace the file in system32. i made it but right now after the windows logon screen the monitor starts to blink between black screen and off screen.
The grapghic card is a NVIDIA 8500 GT. I tested the graphic card in other computer, and at the begining it worked fine, but after the dirver installation it started to fail in the same way.
Ad far i could read on intetrnet it is a failure with NVIDIA.
Is there any solution for this problem? Or i should change the graphic video card? (Maybe for an ATI)

    Hi,
I have used many different NVIDIA cards (including a 8600) on different PCs and never had your issue.
As for drivers, you can always use the original drivers that came with your PC and then do an update if necessary.

  • Mail (4.6) in OS10.6.8 shows several photo attachments with discoloration, distortion (jagged lines, splotches of color, etc.). Could it be a graphics card problem?

My mother-in-law's MacBook Pro 13 (m2009) Mail (4.6) with OS 10.6.8 shows several
photo attachments with discoloration, distortion (jagged lines, splotches of color, etc.).
Could it be a graphics card problem?
Or a bad unpacking of attachments over poor WiFi/Internet?
If anyone has an idea, I'd appreciate your help.
    Thanks from Japan!
    Dan

Please describe the problem in as much relevant detail as possible. The "etrecheck" fad hasn't made that step any less necessary. The better your description, the better the chance of a solution.
For example, if the computer is slow, which specific actions are slow? Is it slow all the time, or only sometimes? What changes did you make, if any, just before it became slow? Have you seen any alerts or error messages? Have you done anything to try to fix it? Most importantly, do you have a current backup of all data? If the answer to the last question is "no," back up now. Ask if you need guidance. Do nothing else until you have a backup.

I have a problem that my mac dont wanna run the Geforce gt 650M graphic card.. its saying that is running the geforce but you can tell by the
proformance that its using the intel HD graphic 4000.. is it software or hardware problems  ?
i try running the computer on bootcamp windows and have the same problems its running on the intel graphic card even tho its saying thats its running
    on the geforce..

What is an SMC reset? The gfxcardstatus worked. Partially. I now know something is either wrong with the nvidia graphic card or its software(the hd 4000 one is better from a performance test by individually testing both cards).
How does the apple exchange work? Just walk in with the Mac and they resolve/replace the Mac or what? Any ideas?

  • Update Disaster. Graphics card problems.

    (yes, MORE problems!)
Ok I dont really think its a disaster but it sure fells like it.
My computer (G5 desktop OS 10.4.9, no intel) crashed and powed down during an update. Now nothing functions properly! I get this when it starts.
    Sysmquickmenu quit unexpectadly.
    and: archiveassistant quit unexpectadly.
AND: sh:line 1 command not found. Operation not permitted.
Also my itunes says its version 7.1.1 but the new features are not visable.
My graphics card seems to be glitching when i start up.
The screen color is very dark, i notice when i exit a Hi-Def game the color returns to normal. So when i start up i enter the game and then exit, to see properly.
By the way im using an Apple LCD Cinema Display

I also experienced problems with my graphics card after installing the latest update via the "software update" application. I have the standard GeForce FX 5200 installed in my Power Mac G5 Dual 2GHz. After the update, the available resolutions listed in my "display preferences" were changed. Several additional resolutions were added, most of which were "interlaced." I normally run my display, a Sony Multiscan crt, at 1024 x 768. This was now only available as a "interlaced" option, which would not display properly on my monitor. I downloaded the 10.4.9 Combo Updater directly from the Apple web site. Once I ran the combo updater, it removed the "interlaced" options and restored my normal choices. Everything is now running smoothly. If anyone is having graphics card issues, I would give the combo updater a try.

    I have two questions here:
1, My laptop is out of warranty, can I still ask to replace the motherboard replaced for free, or I need to pay?
2, Actually I didn't encounter such problem as I seldom "doing graphics intensive processing" (the heaviest job with my graphic card is to play Rise of Nation and Need for Speed 11), do I still need to consider to replace the motherboard or the graphic card to avoid the risk?
    Please please advise! Thank you!

From what I can find out.
14 Jan 2013 - my client was experiencing display artifaces and the graphics card failed the Dell Diags video memory test. The graphic card replaced by Dell Tech.
13 Jun 2013 - my client was again experiencing display artifaces, running Dell Diags reported both hard drive and graphic video memory failed testing. I was concerned that the graphic card had failed again so quickly I worried there may be another defective part was causing the graphic card failure. I figured the most likely cause would be overheating and since the graphics card has an independent heatsink and cooling fan assembly I submitted Dell Warranty Request W03725377 requesting new hard drive, new graphics card, and new graphics card heatsink.
18 July 2013 - my client was again experiencing display problems. He reported:
The laptop has developed the same problem again. Soon as I switched it on over the weekend, the screen split into two and then it froze and then there  were stripes on the screen. I shut it down and switched it on again, hoping this will work but the screen just remained black.
I booted into Dell Diags and shortly after starting the basic test when the test moved from solid blue to the GUI vertical yellow bars appeared. The yellow bars were visible throughout all testing except the LCD test and on the BIOS Screen. The LCD test didn't show the yellow vertical bars but it did show the repeating series of white dots that I have seen before with previous graphics card memory failures. I tried booting into Safe Mode and Safe Mode VGA 640 x 480. All attempts end with a black screen.
I can order and replace the graphics card under warranty but it seems obvious that something is causing the repeated graphic card failures and I want to fix the problem. I've been searching the forums and it seems other people have been experiencing related problems. I've quoted a thread I believe may be relevant
This thread explores a possible combination of LCD Panel Manufacturer and Graphics Card Manufacturer/ Model

I believe I have a similar problem with my Dell M6600 with AMD(ATI) M8900 graphics card. I've used the computer without problems for 1 1/2 years and 3 days ago I noticed the mouse pointer getting corrupted, then the screen flashed and went dark. I've tried system restore without success. When I remove all the ATI software, the computer works with the Generic VGA driver. I spent 2 days trying to reinstall the ATI drivers from both Dell and AMD with no success again. This has been very frustrating as it takes hours to do a system repair check, boot in Safe Mode and remove the ATI software. When the ATI driver/software bundle is installed the computer does not boot correctly and go to a black screen after the Windows boot up logo. As soon as I remove all the ATI drivers and software the computer boots again and works with the Generic VGA driver. I don't want to erase my hard drives (RAID 1) just to try to fix this. I will buy another laptop hard drive and try a clean Windows 7 Pro install. My guess is that either the graphic card is going bad or ATI drivers are not compatible with the latest Windows Update. Did you have any luck fixing your problem?

  • Ok, so I have a 1g macbook Pro and I'm having an issue with the graphics card, so I believe.

I believe I'm having an issue with the graphics card. For one, when I'm using programs like iMovie '11, SPORE, or the Sims 3  for long periods (hours usualy) of time, the computer will be perfectly fine. It gets warmish-hot, like usuall, all of a sudden it will randomly freeze for 5 to 10 seconds, then shut down and reststart. This happens, espically on the Sims 3 I can play for a while, but when I try to save it will shut down on me.
Also, I got a new iPod touch 4g on the 25th, the first few times I tried syncing and downloading, it started off fine, but after 10 min. it would restart. Now it works ok, but I still monitor it just incase.
Can anyone help me understand why all of this is happening? I beleve the graphics card isn't good enough, even though it meets the standards for iLife, and The Sims 3. My graphics card is a ATI,RadeonX1600. The laptop has 2 GB RAM runs at 2.16GHz with an Intel Core Duo on OS X Snow Lepard (10.6.8). Thanks everyone.

Threads are just processes that link together like the threads in these discussions, well, maybe that is a bad example given how disjointed these get
It looks like you are not pushing the cpu or hard drive enough to cause your behavior.  Not sure what the temperature limit on that cpu is, on the newer models it is around 100-110 °C which is notciabley hot, and the system shutsdown for self protection at the thermal limit.
You could be hitting a thermal limit causing that behavior...so do you see good behavior at lower load levela on the system?  Does this only happen with when you are under the high graphic loads?
Trying to zero in on when this occurs to see if we an isolate the problem.
