Problems saving edits - Iphoto 4

It seems my edits don't save. To edit a photo, I'm duplicating it, typing a new name in the title field, and making changes. But when I try to use it outside of Iphoto, as an attachment or move it to desktop, it only appears as the original photo, original name and everything. ??????

To expand slightly on what BF has written: a "title" that you assign in iPhoto ordinarily has nothing to do with the name of the file as the Finder sees it. Your iPhoto titles are visible only to iPhoto, except when you use the Export command to save copies of photos outside the iPhoto Library, and select the option in the Export dialog box to "Use Title". If you do that, the exported picture will have as its filename the title you assigned to it in iPhoto.

  • Problem saving edited photos in iPhoto

    HI
When editing in iphoto the changes I have done are not saved correctly. If I select a photo then choose 'edit -> enhance -> done' everything is saved as expected even when losing edit-view BUT if I try to edit in another way for example 'edit-> adjust' and then changes the 'shadows' settings manually and press 'done' the changes are not saved. When selecting the edited photo to to watch it in full-size or even as the icon size (i.e. how every photo appears in each Event before being clicked on) the photo shows up unedited. I have to chose the edit-view to see the changes I have done.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Delete the contents of the User/LIbrary/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder, launch iPhoto and try again. If still no go create a new test library, import a couple of photos and try your editing there.
If the new library works as it should then the problem lies in your original library. If it doesn't work then more tests are indicated.
Log into another user account on your Mac and try the editing there. If it doesn't work there then a reinstall of iPhoto is indicated. To do so you'll have to first delete the current application and all files with "iPhoto" in the file name with either a .PKG or .BOM extension that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder, reinstall iPhoto from the disk it came on and reapply the latest updaters.
It the editing works in the other account then the problem lies in your user account. It could be a preference file other than iPhoto's. Here's how to determine if that's the case:
Trouble Shooting Preferences in Leopard/Snow Leopard
1 - Create a folder titled "Preferences A" on the Desktop.
2 - Open the working Preferences folder, HD/Users/your_name/Library/Preferences, and move the contents to the Preferences A folder on the Desktop.
3 - With the working Preferences folder empty run the application again and determine if the problems is fixed.
NOTE: you may have to drag the contents of the working folder to the trash and empty if moving the contents to the A folder only copies them instead of moving.
4 - If the problem is fixed:
A - open the working Preferences folder (HD/Users/your_name/Library/Preferences).
B - Open the Preferences A folder on the Desktop, select all of the contents and drag them into the working Preferences folder.
C - When the Copy window pops up check the "Apply to All" check box and then click on the Don't Replace button.
5 - If the problem is NOT fixed, empty the working Preferencess folder and move the contents of the Preferences folder on the desktop back into it.

  • Problems saving edited project to iBook

I imported a movie from digital camcorder to my iMac and have done several edits and successfully saved the iMovie project on my iMac. I recently got an iBook and imported the project from my iMac into my iBook. I can open the project and edit it in the iBook but I cannot save it there. I have tried several times and the program freezes and I have to force quit the application.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

    using my home network
That would be fine (but a lot slower).
Back to the original problem. If it's not the obvious, then it can really be a lot of things. (The "obvious" is losing the Mac specific file info by using a PC-formatted hard drive for the transfer, or using ftp or anything else not Mac-savvy method.)

  • Problems Saving Edits

I have tested InContext editing on a couple test pages
without problems. Now I want to use it for a real site, I run into
problems. I can access the page for editing (so it must be
registered correctly), but when I want to save it, it asks me to
register the site with ftp information. If I do fill that out, it
creates a new site. What could be causing this?

    Hi weblinkstudio,
Take a look at the 3rd and 4th messages of the following
forum posting where another user was experiencing similar behavior:
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/webforums/forum/messageview.cfm?forumid=82&catid=859&threadid =1403382&enterthread=y
There are a couple of reasons why this might happen - the
domain name of the site you're trying to edit (e.g.,
    http://www.example.com vs.
    http://example.com) or trying to
edit a page at a higher level when the site is registered on a
subfolder (as the other user experienced). Please respond whether
the information in the post resolves your issue.
    Best regards,
    Corey

  • Problems saving edited file

I am unable to save in jpeg - i only have the option of pse or acrobat pdf
    how can I change?

Which Elements and OS version ?
In older versions, the jpeg option is not available for files in 16 bits mode (the jpeg format is only 8 bits).
If that's the case, use the menu Image / mode and convert to 8 bits.
Otherwise, are you trying to save some kind of project ?

  • PS Elements photos can't be correctly saved to iPhoto

Help! I had and still do have problems saving edits made in Photoshop Elements 9 to iPhoto. (I opened PSE in iPhoto, made edits and saved them. The edits, however, did not show up in iPhoto. I have a question in the support communities on this.)
I contacted Apple support, where I was given some horrible, bad advice, resulting in even more problems. Here is the newest, even more serious problem:
Photos edited in PSE no longer are saved in the iPhoto library. For example, if I open a photo in iPhoto, then open PSE from the edit button in iPhoto, and then try to save the edited photo, the default save locations goes to the Pictures folder. It does not go to any of the folders in the iPhoto library.  I think this is because the Apple tech had me rooting around my photo files, and this is the last place we looked for whatever we were looking for.
I need to get PSE to put the photo back where it needs to go.PSE now wants to dump all photos willy-nilly into the Pictures folder.  As it stands, I cannot edit photos in PSE and expect them to find their way back to iPhoto. Once this problem is solved, the other problem with getting changes to show up will be addressed.
A second Apple tech support person is looking into this issue, but any help from the good folks in this group would be greatly appreciated.

My version is speaking German - so searched for the english manual:
In the Edit workspace, choose Edit > Preferences > Saving Files
    enable: Save Over Current File
Save Over Current File does not open the "Save As dialog box". The first save overwrites the original.

    (Reposted from iPhoto for IOS)

    Be sure you're following this workflow;
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.  3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 9 or 10 the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
NOTE: If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window".  That will let you either edit in iPhoto (click on the Edit button) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and select "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu).  This way you get the best of both worlds.

  • Saving edited images back to iPhoto

I'm having problems saving images in PSE back to iPhoto.
I have set up the preferences in iPhoto (11-for Mac) to use PSE 10 as the editting software.  I have also followed Barbara B's guidance on setting the file saving options in PSE10 to 'One first Save' - 'Save over current file'. - but once I have editted an image and I wish to save it (back to iPhoto) I am instead given the usual choices associated with a 'save as...' option.  To minimise effort, I then save the changed image to the Desktop and then drag it back to iPhoto.
I know this have been covered before I have read the solutions, but it seems that the changed image it not automatically being imported back to iPhoto.
Perhaps I have not set up the Preferences correctly - any suggestions?

If you start the process in iPhoto by hitting the edit button near bottom right, then any changes made in the external editor should update automatically after you save in Elements (Cmd+S) and close (Cmd+W)
The process is not always smooth with raw files but should work with jpegs.
Note, you cant use the editing tool in iPhoto once you set up Elements editor as the external editing app.
    See this Adobe tech note:

  • Saving edited RAW files in iphoto

Hi I have searched the forum but cant find an answer that works for me and I have also read this
    http://http://barbarabrundage.com/2010/11/29/using-photoshop-elements-9-with-iphoto/
Basically I am opening my Raw images in PSE 10 as my external editor from Iphoto 11. My question is what is the best way to save it back to iphoto?
I have tried the instructions in the above link and set PSE 10 to 'save over current file' in the savings preferences but when I clicked save image after editing in camera raw it opened the save as menu
Should I click on open image from camera raw to open in the editor and then save it from there for it to update in iphoto? I clicked open image for an edit yesterday then saved to desktop as a psd file and imported to  iphoto which worked
Apologies I am very new to this, any help would be great
    Chris

Ok thanks, is there any way to keep the format of the file then and save into iphoto as per the linked article? Would I have to keep it as a NEF file??
Also when I've edited a Raw photo if I am going to save it to desktop and import it back to iphoto what file type should I be saving it as? I used  PSD last time is this right?
One final question when should I be saving files as DNG as this is what the book I am reading refers to but i dont know if these can be saved to iphoto or what their purpose is
    Thanks again

  • After iphoto 9.1.5. problem with editing photos

After I did the 9.1.5. update I have a problem with editing photo's. My photo's are about 35mb a piece.. they are panoramic photo's. Editing used to work perfect in iphoto 8.. after I went to iphoto 9 it became buggy.. (it crashes on certain photo's that 8 could handle without a problem).. but I learned to live with it. Now I did the 9.1.5. update and I can edit maybe 2 or 3 pics without a problem.. then when I get to number 4 Iphoto will show me a black screen.
If I close iphoto and start it again, I can continue where I left off.. untill I get to a picture that seems to ruin the party.. and then I have to restart again..
Iphoto 8 used to work so smooth with panoramic photo's.. dont know where it went wrong..

There are several possible causes for the Black Screen issue
    1. Permissions in the Library: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions.
    2. Minor Database corruption: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
    3. A Damaged Photo: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.
    4. A corrupted iPhoto Cache: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/Library/ Caches...
    5. A corrupted preference file: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    If none of these help:
    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • Problem Saving Files CS5

After years of no problems I am suddenly having a problem saving files.  This started with CS4 a few months ago, and has continued with CS5.
When I attempt to Save As... I get an error message:
Could not save as "{location & filename}" because the file is already in use or was left open by another application.
The only place the file could be considered "in use" or "left open" would be due to Bridge.
I get this error message whether saving as jpg, psd or any other file type.  If I retry saving the file then it will usually save properly after several attempts.  But if I close Bridge then it will save the first time every time.  I get the same error whether saving as the original file name or with a new name.
I have been using Bridge to preview and select the images I want to edit for a very long time.  But this problem didn't start showing up until a short time ago, so I wonder about a problem introduced with an update??    Those who use Bridge know that it remains running in the background while the image is processed through Camera RAW and PS.  There has never been a reason to close Bridge when working in PS and it is not very convenient to do so just to save a file.
If anyone has a solution to this I would like to hear about it.
    Thanks,

    Hi Jimcarke,
My problem is very similar. Just Upgraded to CS5 from CS4.
Graphic files, no problem.  I can save 80Mb and 30 layered mixed graphic files, even after editing.
No JPEG's in the stack though. Perhaps I'll have a look at that!
With simple JPEG's at 1.9mb, after editing, then as soon as I enter 'Save As,' Bingo the great blank screen'
Problem seems worse if I get as far as rotating the image, then everything disappears instantly.
Customer services have suggested all the usual remedies and now I can't open a file or edit anything
I'm back to the insufficient RAM issue.
I've just 'given up' and back to CS4 again and will try to get some work done for the morning.
All good fun and an interesting way to spend a very sunny Sunday afternoon. (GB)

  • Problem saving attachments with longish filenames

We're having a problem saving attachments from Mail that are 25+ characters in length. ie. If we click on the "Save" attachment button in Mail, we get an alert that the file can't be saved because it's too long. We can drag the file to the desktop, but then can't move it without getting the "name is too long" alert. We have to change the name, deleting a bunch of characters. Using HFS+. Anyone have a solution?

When you drag the attachment to the desktop you should be able to click on the file's name then edit it so it's less then 25 characters. Try saving it again after deleting some characters.
We just switched from OS 9.4 to OS 10.4 (Intel) and found that Photoshop did not recognize any of the pics in our folders because we haven't been saving them with the file extension (i.e. jpeg, eps, etc.) We had to open all our pic files then add the extension. Apparently our old Macs could recognize a photo file but our new ones need the extension to be able to read the file. So if your file name is too long it's probably cutting off the extension - your computer won't let you save it until you make room for the file extension at the end.
    Hope this helps.

  • Iphoto 09: downloads, game screencaps saving in iphoto help to stop

I have a new mac book pro with iphoto 09 up to date.
I am so used to the older iphoto without "events" so it is taking me time to actually use it.
Today I started to go through some photos I uploaded weeks ago and discovered somehow throughout the photos there are random photos, some seem to be screencaps I'd say of pages we have visited, some are photos of downloads whether they are photos or scans etc and some are off the desktop of different pdfs etc and some were photos taken with photobooth. These were in different 'events' named desktop, downloads etc. Then there were also photos of different text font types etc all the way through and little pictures of things like the Skype 'S'.
I have no idea how they got there or how to turn it off! I am not the only one using this computer but none of us know how this happened.
Googling didn't seem to bring the usual quick answer.
Just want to stop it so that not all things sitting on desktop etc end up saved in iphoto.
    Thanks

For some reason this seems to happen on the initial import sometimes
If you have not added a bunch of new photos to iphoto just quit, drag the iPhoto library to the desktop and launch iPhoto creating a new library and import your photos again - if that all works this time then trash the iPhoto library on the desktop
