Problems Saving in Photoshop CS4

Hi. I've been searching EVERYWHERE for a fix for this problem and nobody seems to know what to do, yet so many people are having the same problem.
When I'm doing a lot of work to one photo, I like to save every few minutes just to be safe. For the past month or so, whenever I've saved the open file more than a couple of times, I get the error message about not being able to save the file because it is use by another application or has been left open.
It seemed to start quite randomly, and not right after installing anything new, or adding a new plugin.
If anyone has any news about this situation, I would love to hear from you!!

The message means what it says: something OUTSIDE of Photoshop has the file open or locked.
Photoshop is just passing the error message that it got from the OS.
And Photoshop itself can't keep the file open or locked.
Do you have the folder where you are saving the file open in the Finder, Bridge, or any other application? If so, close it and try again.
Have you placed the file you are saving in InDesign or other page layout app? (some have bugs where they keep the file open)
Apple has had some problems with Spotlight and the CoverFlow display leaving files open too long -- but I thought they'd fixed those a while back.

Problem installing Adobe Photoshop CS4. Please help me.

I am stuck with Adobe Photoshop CS4 (Trial) installation since last two days. I am desperately looking for help to get rid of this problem.
My Problem:
At the end of installation of Adobe Photoshop CS4 (Trial) i was prompted with en error
message stating some of the components were not installed. When I check the more information button provided in the error message window, it showed below error.
“Adobe Photoshop CS4 English Language Pack Error: Error 2.”
Still I could find the installed Photoshop in C:\Program files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4\Photoshop.exe
When I executed above file; application showed below error message and close it.
“Some of the application components are missing from the application directory, Please reinstall the application.”
I just try to run Adobe Device Central CS4 which was installed along with it. It showed below error message.
“The Localized resource files for this application could not be loaded. Please reinstall or repair the application and try again.”
So My Problem is I am unable to open Photoshop CS4 after its unsuccessful installation.
I spent more than a day in different ways as I explained below in more info section. I am desperately looking for helping hands to fix this problem.
I ever find this kind of difficulty with any other components installation in my 10 years of development experience. Please help me.
More info:
(1) I have downloaded Adobe Photoshop CS4 (Trial) in this month (July 09) from adobe official site.
(2) My PC OS Windows XP SP3.
(3) Prior to install Photoshop CS4 I had Acrobat reader 8 and Adobe DW CS4.
(4) After I read some stuff on net, I downloaded both Windows install Clean up and CS4InstallerDatabaseUtility.exe.
(5) First I uninstalled all DW CS4 and Photoshop CS4 using add/remove then rebooted.
then ran CS4InstallerDatabaseUtility.exe (which really did not removed as it did not
find any Adobe component), then installed Photoshop CS4. No luck. same error.
(6) This time I ran CS4InstallerDatabaseUtility.exe and removed DW CS4, Photoshop CS4 and flash and rebooted. Then I ran Photoshop CS4 as Administrator. Same thing repeated at the end of installation and when I tried to open the photoshop. Finding a real hard time with it.
Any kind of help to get rid of this problem would be highly appreciated.

PS CS4 software itself has to be installed as Admin. Put the downloaded folder on the desktop (if not there already). Open the folder and right click on the .exe file and choose run as Admin.
Install on C drive is the best stable choice.
Before you do all this make the anti-virus is turned off. If windows defender is running turn that off too. If Adobe reader is installed renove that. Ensure no other adobe products are running in the background.
During install the process will hang at 90 percent for about 10 to 15 mins. This is normal.
After the software is installed reboot computer.
After reboot go to start, All Programs and right click on PS CS4. Click on properties, Compatibility and check run as Admin. Hit Apply and OK to close. Run PS CS4 and update to 11.0.1
Be Advised:
Now the biggest problem you might run into is that the trial install went too far and failed. If this happened you cannot re-install PS CS4 trial because of the DRM that is hidden in the registry hive. The hidden DRM prevents people from installing the trial more then once and limits the trial at 30 days. There is nothing you can do other then nuking the hard drive and a fresh install of your operating system.

Problem exporting to Photoshop CS4

I have recently been processing a large batch of images in Lightroom 3, and as part of the workflow I’ve been exporting directly into Photoshop CS4 for final adjustments.
I received the following pop-up after choosing to edit in Photoshop CS4:
“This version of Lightroom may require the Photoshop Camera Raw plug in version 5.7 for full compatibility.
Please update the Camera Raw plug-in using the update tool available in the Photoshop help menu.”
The three options were: "Cancel", "Render using Lightroom" or "Open Anyway".
I clicked on "Open Anway" and also ticked the box “Don’t show again”.
Having studied the quality of the results I now regret ticking this box. The noise reduction does not seem to have been applied correctly and some images appear lacking in detail. I assume that if Lightroom renders the file then it will be much better quality. Unfortunately I can’t change it back to render using Lightroom because I ticked the “Don’t show again” box.
So my question is whether it’s possible to change the default option back to “Render using Lightroom” instead of using Camera Raw? Is there an easy way to do this? I have explored all the Lightroom preferences but to no avail…

Problems saving in PS CS4

I am working on an animation for a class. I have been making this animation 100% through Photoshop CS4, and I know to save the animation to finish editing it (adding music and other things), I'll need to "Save for Web & Devices". But Photoshop won't let me, for some reason. The option is there, its just grayed out and won't let me chose it.
Help?

I don't recall ever seeing that menu grayed-out... Is your document particularly large, or in a deep mode (16 bits/channel or higher)? Is it RGB?
Perhaps a screenshot would be helpful showing your document (especially the info in the tab title, and perhaps also the ) when you're experiencing the grayed-out Save For Web menu item.

Problem saving Droplet in CS4

I created a droplet that works fine. It is specifically for vertical images and saves them as a jpg. In naming the droplet I tried to abbreviate "vertical" with "vert.", and followed that with jpg to reflect the fact that the image would be saved as a jpg. So the name of the droplet ends with "vert.jpg".
Now the droplet won't work because it looks like an image file with a jpg extension. When I go to rename the droplet I am unable to get rid of the extension in the file naming dialog. It auto-completes the name including the .jpg. If I delete the extension, photoshop only "Hides" the extension. I can't get rid of it. Any ideas?

When I do that PS will still attach the extension making it appear to be an image file, it just hides it.
I did find an answer though. By restarting PS while holding the command, option, and shift keys, the PS settings are reset to default. Thanks to c.pfaffenbichler who gave the correct answer to the same problem when it was posted in 2011. Sorry, I just found it after posting this question.

Problem saving a Photoshop file from an AFP server

Hi All,
Just want to know if some of you guys are experiencing this and how you solved it.
Basically we have an AFP server and OD services. All mac clients are bound to OD and are using the OD account for logging in. Most of the user are using photoshop. However when one edits a file and wanted to save/replace it, photoshop generates an error saying its locked forcing phothsop users to do file SaveAs and rename the file. We have been doing the AFP server and editing photoshop directly through the network for almost 1 and 1/2 years but not experienced this issues until later that we added more users/employees in our network and this issue came up
The error is
Could not save "Photoshop File.psd" because the file is locked. Use the 'Get Info' command in the finder to unlock the file.
We are able to create folders/files to where the photoshop is saving and other applications seems to save/replace files fine except for photoshop.
Has anyone encounter this and how did you solve it?

In Workgroup Manager (OS X Server) select the group you want to apply the setting to, the choose Preferences.
Choose the "Details" tab and add .GlobalPreferences.plist
Clear all the settings, and add a new key called NSUmask, then choose "integer" with a value of 2
Next time your users for that group log in and they save a file it will be rw-rw-r
The default umask for Macs is 022 (rw-r--r--), this changes it to 002. I didn't try manually changing the default umask on the individual workstations, but I assume that would work also.

Problems printing from photoshop CS4 with epson R2880

I just purchased an epson stylus photo R2880, I thought it was broken due to the fact that I could
not make prints from photoshopCS4.... it goes through all the motions and when its time to print, the soft ware just stops and nothing happens, no warning window, nothing, just no print, I have been three days with epson support by telephone and we have gone through every possible scenario. I have repaired permissions, I have repaired the disks, I have reinstalled all drivers and I can print
from iphoto, from epson software, Lightroom and from preview but not from photoshop, I am at my wits end...I have my agent in Italy asking for three new portfolios and I cannot deliver. please help

In conjunction with Jeff's suggestion, I suggest that you remove all of Epson's preferences for your preference folder especially if you are experience some other issues with other software. And especially if you have 10.6.1 installed.

Problems with installing Photoshop CS4 Extended (Windows)?

Just got new software today and am unable to install it. I keep getting the following error message: DATA_FILE_VERSION. I then have to click ok and then the screen gets hung up with the hour glass. When I try and force quit, I get another error: autoplay.exe not loading.
Anyone else have this problem with this particular program? I've never had a problem installing any software from Adobe or otherwise. Can't seem to get support techs to answer the phone to get help.

Googling only comes up with a couple things where someone was trying to
install a cracked version they downloaded, so it could be a corruption
problem.
If this is a downloaded installer, then redownload it and try installing,
again.
If you are inserting a DVD and autoplay is starting up and you get this
message, you can shut down the installer process as you've done then instead
of double-clicking the DVD, use right-click Explore to view the files
directly on the DVD without running AutoPlay, then find the setup.exe or
something.MSI with EN in it's name to run the installer, directly, without
goint through autoplay. This would only make a difference if the autoplay
is corrupted somehow but everything else is ok. Since your error message
talks about autoplay then maybe that is the case.
If you are calling Adobe for support, it can take hours, depending on when
you call.

Problem saving in Photoshop Elements 12 on a mac

Hello, can anyone help me please? I am trying to save an image that I have photoshopped but I am getting a message that says 'write access is denied'. It appears that all of my images are read only and I have no idea why. I am new to Mac so maybe it has something to do with that but cannot seem to find a solution. Any ideas why? Very frustrating.

I've managed to sort it out thank you. The external hard drive that the photos were on was in the wrong format (NTSC). So I moved all the photos onto another harddrive that was in the correct Mac format (MS DOS fat 32) and all was ok.

Photoshop CS4 not opening & Wacom Cintiq 20WSX driver problem

Hello,
I have been using Photoshop CS4 for quite sometime now with no issues. I have just started using a Wacom Cintiq 20WSX and installed all the necessary drivers and now Photoshop will not open (I have seen other threads relating to Intuos tablets but not the Cintiq 20WSX).
I have unistalled the Wacom drivers and Photoshop will open, on reinstalling the Wacom drivers the problem starts again "Photoshop cs4 has stopped working".
I am running Windows 7 Home Prem 64bit. Photoshop CS4 has all current updates and I am using the most recent driver for the 20WSX from Wacoms site.
Any suggestions as this is really really frustrating. (I have not yet attempted to uninstall Photoshop and reinstall it)
(Incidently I am using the Production Premium CS4 Suite and everyhting else appears to be unaffected -AE, AI are opening with no issues)

Hi. I had the same problems with my Intous4 as well, and since both cintiq and Intuos use the same driver it probably is the same.
Try this. Uninstall the wacom, unplug it, restart the pc. Then download the latest driver from the wacom site (if you didn't already), and install that latest driver alone, without installing the one that came with the cintiq. This is how I solved my problem, it wouldn't open PSCS4 64bit and AE

Printing Problems with Photoshop CS4

I am having problems printing with Photoshop CS4. When I go to print, I get a very small version of my created document. If the image is 8"x5", it prints 1"x2" in the upper left corner. I read other forum answers that said"delete the fax/printer" so it won't delete to the fax machine, but that doesn't work for me. Any suggestions to fix this?

Doesn't sound like a Photoshop issue.
What do the iPrint people tell you? I had never heard of iPrint before, had to Google them.
Incidentally, it's Photoshop not PhotoShop.

Photoshop CS4 : Printer name too long problem

we have a special problem only in Photoshop CS4 when we want to print here.
When students wants to print their document on one of our printer, Photoshop is not keeping the printer selected correctly.
When we go in File --> Print...
The page "Imprimer" open and I select the printer : RN-CORRIDOR-D306-COULEUR(PS)
the (PS) is for the PostScript Driver.
then if we click on "Mise en page" (Page Setup) you see the name of the printer is now : RN-CORRIDOR-D306-COULEUR
this printer is the one with PCL driver.
I have these 2 printers installed on my computer. If I remove the PCL one, everything works correctly.
I have made some testing and I found that if the printer has more thant 30 character for the name identical with another one, it will switch to the printer above in the list in photoshop.
the name of these printers are in fact : \\sprint1\RN-CORRIDOR-D306-COULEUR and \\sprint1\RN-CORRIDOR-D306-COULEUR(PS)
and they appear like this in the listing :
\\sprint1\RN-CORRIDOR-D306-COULEUR
\\sprint1\RN-CORRIDOR-D306-COULEUR(PS)
So if I choose the PCL one, everything works fine, but if I choose the PostScript one, it will switch on the PCL driver. (it is impossible to print on the PS)
Another test I made :
Create 2 printer locally on my computer with 2 names with 30 character identical and 1 different at the end, 2 completely different driver (HP 4050PCL and Lexmark OptraS1650PCL) on 2 different ports: same results, it swith to the first printer in the listing.
As I said, this is the only application that have this problem. Any other Adobe application or MS Office is working for now 3 years with these printers with more than 30 character in the name. And we can't change the name as they are installed on over 100 computers.
Did someone ever saw this ?

these printer are installed on our lab computer with more than 100 softwares installed.
the only application having this problem is Photoshop CS4.
Illustrator CS4 for exemple is correct, last version of Acrobat Pro too.

Photoshop CS4 and CC/CS6 crashing for no apparent reason (Windows 7)

I’m currently having a serious problem with my Photoshop CS4 where it continuously crashes, for no apparent reason, since July 16, 2013.   I have done everything recommended via Adobe forum to try and fix this problem though it still persists.    It crashes randomly and I am usually unable to use Photoshop for more than 20 minutes. I to have the same issue and it all started after switching photoshop cc's layout to 3d mode now everything crashes repeatedly... Thankgod AE still works but yeah ps 3d system is the culprate here b/c It worked perfectly for 4 months for me until i tried there crappy ps 3d system!

OpenGL not working with Photoshop CS4 on MacPro + ATI X1900XT

Hi,
i am running a MacPro 2x2 2.66 Ghz with 12GB Ram, an ATI X1900 XT 512MB and a GeForce 7300GT. The ATI is in Slot 1. Connected to the ATI card is an Apple CD 30", connected to the GeForce is an Apple CD 23" and a Sanyo TV-LCD.
*The problem:* when running Photoshop CS4 (Beta) i can not enable OpenGL as Photoshop does not recognise any video card (selectable under PSCS4/Preferences/Performance/...).
Adobe says in a TechNote (http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb405711&sliceId=1#mac) that this card should be working. The ROM of the ATI is up-to-date.
What - or where - else could i change something to get this to work? Any hint?

Like some of the other posters, I have a MacPro with two video cards, the ATI X1900XT and the OEM graphics card. I bought the ATI to drive a 30" display. I have been using the OEM card to drive the Wacom. When I learned of bird's eye view in CS4, I too looked in preferences for the OpenGL status and found it disabled. Following the above suggestions regarding the potential two card confusion, I moved the Wacom to the remaining open spot on the X1900XT and removed the OEM card.
Voila! OpenGL became available in CS4 preferences and I also noticed a significant improvement in the screen redraw rate (I went into the advanced options when turning OpenGL on and also checked use for image drawing). Bird's eye view is also an excellent feature which I will use constantly. Note: To use bird's eye you must hold down the "H" key (even if the hand tool is selected). While holding the "H", start to drag the mouse and the image will zoom out to show you where you are in the scaled down image. Makes the Navigator view obsolete.
