Problems scanning HP PHOTOSMART 5520 with OSX 10.9 Mavericks
Hi,
I have recently download OS 10.9 Mavericks. And now HP PHOTOSMART 5520 SCAN is not working properly. In fact I cannot scan. I use the printer by wifi.
Do we need drivers for OSX 10.9 Mavericks?
Alberto Bermejo
I should be more clear. Scanning with HP Scan, I can scan and see a preview. I can save the file ONCE but the image or docuement is garbled when I open the saved file. If I try to save again using a different format (and a different name), I get the error:
"An error has occured saving the file because it could not be written to. Check the proerties for the file to make sure it is not read-only."

Can't Scan to Photosmart 5520 on OSX 10.10
I am trying to scan from my HP Photosmart 5520 to my Mac which is running OS X 10.10.1 (Yosemite). I used to be able to scan just fine but now that I've upgraded to Yosemite it no longer works. I can print just fine but scanning doesn't work at all. I can't scan from the Printer utility (System Preferences | Printers & Scanners | Scan). I can't scan using the HP Scan utility (I receive an error saying HP Scan can't communicate with my device). And I also can't scan using the scan to printer option. In fact, I can't even enable the scan to printer option in the HP Utility because I get a message that the software isn't installed despite having just downloaded today the most recent HP software for this device and installing it and ensuring the HP Scan option was selected during installation.
This is incredibly frustrating. I'm hoping someone can help me resolve this.
Thanks

Frequent problems in Apple PPC Mac with OSX Leopard 10.5.8
Hi,
Frequent problems in Apple PPC computers with OSX Leopard10.5.8
I have a Imac 17icnh G5 2Ghz 512 ram (Standard not the isight) it had a clean install of OSX 10.5
But after running a update to 10.5.8 with update if Itunesand security etc it was about 6 updates all together.
Now the Imac uses to much CPU for small tasks and uses84-90MB of ram for a Kernal Task.
When I try check permissions in disk utility the CPU goes toabout 80% in something called InstallerB and wont finnsh because there is no CPU power left
and will over heat if I left it for too long.
The Exact symptoms of the 10.5.8 with update my differ alittle but I have had this same problem on about 5 PPC apple computers and in the end I sometimes
Just down grade to the flawless Tiger 10.4.11.
So my question is > how do I fix this problem ? Which of the Updates dose this to PPC mac’s ? (is it itunes or securtiy)
Is Leopard 10.5.8 just a peace of JUnk just like windows Vista was and I should alwasy use Tiger for PPC and Snow leopard for Intel.
SamHi Sam,
Leo uses 2 to 4 times the resources of Tiger, & while 512MB is the minimum for Leo, that really crimps the OS, it isn't all that great for Tiger, though 10.4 does better with only 512MB, I'd put 2GB in it for decent performance, (if an IntelMac I'd say 4GB for the same OS).
http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/3200DDR2GBP/
Also, open Console in Utilities, look for repeating messages, you may have some 10.04 things running that fail in 10.5.
I think you should get Applejack...
http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/15667/applejack
After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, (+s), then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...
applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 6 of it's things.
At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.
The 6 things it does are...
Correct any Disk problems.
Repair Permissions.
Clear out Cache Files.
Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.
Trash old Log files.
First reboot will be slower, sometimes 2 or 3 restarts will be required for full benefit... my guess is files relying upon other files relying upon other files! :-)
Disconnect the USB cable from any Uninterruptible Power Supply so the system doesn't shut down in the middle of the process.
Is Leopard 10.5.8 just a peace of JUnk just like windows Vista was and I should alwasy use Tiger for PPC and Snow leopard for Intel.
In my opinion, OSX is headed towards Windows®, & aimed at users that only know how to Twit.
If Tiger does everything you need, like you don't need iDevices & know how to protect yourself on the Internet without the added Security of 10.5 & associated Apps, then by all means stick with 10.4.11.
If you want/need 10.5... max out the RAM for sure. -

MAC OS X Yosemite scanning from Photosmart 5520
Hello, I updated my MAC to OSX Yosemite version 10.10 and my HP Photosmart 5520 printer stopped scanning. I uninstalled the HP software and reinstalled it but the HP Utility keeps saying, "HP utility has quit unexpectedly, a report as been sent to Apple". It comes on for a quick second as if something is blocking it. I tried to turn off my firewall but it still did not work. I saw another post that they suggested to download 10.9 from the HP drivers and software, that still did not work. My printer says the software is not installed on my computer. I am also using a USB cable,, not wireless. Thanks!
This question was solved.
View Solution.Hello @kendeebrad,
Welcome to the HP Forum,
I see you lost the ability to scan via USB from your Photosmart 5520 to your Mac after upgrading to 10.10.
I would like to help you with this issue.
Have you verified and repaired the disk permissions?
I would uninstall the software again, then verify and repair the disk permissions.
After that check for any apple updates.
next, reboot the Mac. when it has started up again, goto hp.com.
From here download the most upto date drivers for the photosmart 5520.
Install the drivers again and test the scan feature.
If this does not work, I recommend calling our technical support at 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region, please click the link below to get the support number for your region. http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-phone-assist.html

Photosmart 5520 with OS x v 10.5 COME ON
Hey I just got a Photosmart 5520. And now i need to print
but guess i have "old" mac with OS X 10.5. 8
Is there some old drivers that might work or what should i do?? preffer not too buy new gear.
somebody? plz
many thanks!Welcome to the forums @Karlpe
Unfortunately, the Photosmart 5520 does not have a driver for OS X 10.5. Below is the link to the drivers page so you can see as well.
HP Photosmart 5520 e-All-in-One Printer Drivers
From my own experience, most of the printers I come across, need 10.6 or higher. You can always use the same link to check on any other model of printer to see if they have drivers available for whichever OS X you are using.
I hope that clears up any concerns and helps!

Photosmart 5520 on OSX mountain lion wont print via wifi
set this up several times, having 'reset printers' etc etc, but it just will not print via wifi - just get a message saying printer is busy.
it works ok via usb cable - and it even works via wifi when printing a test page in utlities!
totally stumped. As much as I aware from my personal experience I came accross this model where a talk talk representiv has confirmed that the HG533does not support Bonjour.. I suggest checking that with talk talk.
You may try a temporary direct connection without using the router and check for any change, I believe that will work what means that the router break the connection.
To test such a connection follow step one below to enable wireless direct for the printer:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03269394&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=5157536&tmp...
Next click the Wi-Fi icon, select Join other network and select Show Networks.
Select and connect to the Wireless Direct name.
Under Print and scan click the Plus sign, try adding the printer and check for any difference.
Once done testing reconnect the devices to your router..
Say thanks by clicking the Kudos thumb up in the post.

Hi, tried the Apple fix, installing the OSX combo update followed by the Safari update followed by the security update, nothing.
Tried the thing where you toss the mail program in the trash and then install the security update, nothing.
Is there anyone else who has a problem even after all trhe fixes suggested here and in Apple support?
Thank youWhat version of Mail and what happens when you try to use Mail? A little more information would help.

Problem removing a partition created with OSX Lion
Hello,
I have two partitions on my MacbookPro. The first contains Lion the second SL. I am removing Lion (battery life is halfed as the OS is much more processor intensive). The SL partition boots and works fine and has the latest version of all OS files.
My goal is to remove the Lion partition (and the rescue partiton).
I have tried:
1. From the disk utility in the SL partition: Unmounting partition 1. and deleting it. It tells me that it is an error and it is unable to delete this partition.
2. From the disk utility in the SL partition: Erasing all data on the partition and formatting with the journaling option. Same error as 1.
3. Booting into the Lion rescue partition and running Disk utility from there (version 12.0). Same error as 1.
Does anyone know how I can delete this partition, delete the rescue disk partition and merge the two?
Many thanks for any and all help!
JamesYep, just install iDVD (plus sounds and jingles) and iWeb if you want it (but note that iWeb apparently won't work if you upgrade to Mountain Lion).
Then use Software Update to get any late iDVD updates. -

USB problem on iBook G-4 with OSX 10.3.9
I rebuild a new system disk from scratch as the previous one crashed. Installed 10.3 and proceeded to perform all the updates to 10.3.9 (which wasn't the case on the previous system disk running 10.3.6).
Everything works except I can't get my Fuji camera to be recognized on the desktop or by the Fuji FinePixel software. I haven't tried yet to take the xD card out as I don't have a reader handy.
Any ideas? Thanx
SiberianThanx JerBer I'll try that. What is weird is that the printer for example connected to the same USB port works fine, the USB hub which has a mouse connected to it works fine - just the **** camera. Even if it's a Fuji issue with the FinePix software, it SHOULD at least show up on the desktop as a device even if the software had an issue no?
Thanx again

Hello everyone I just purchased a brand new mac and I am trying to install windows 8 pro using bootcamp assistant. I get through almost the entire install when i get an error message that says "installation cannot proceed files missing" something like that...
my windows 8 pro is brand new and I downloaded osx mavericks from the app store has anyone else had this problem can anyone help me????!?!?Hi. Because both Mavericks and Windows 8 are still new, they may not be free of error. Apple needs more time to perform more tests to ensure that these two different OS's will work properly without getting in conflicts. If it's posdible, I highly recommand you to downgrade back to Lion or Mountain Lion and install Windows 7 (if you have a copy of it). In my experience, all advises from Genius Bar members and computer articles confirm that Windows 7 will work on Macs with Lion OS. It should also work on Mountain Lion. Besides Boot Camp, you could try to virtualize Windows OS and its applications by using VirtualBox, CrossOver and other VMs. I already have an Oracle VirtualBox but I would like to try Boot Camp since it allows me to enjoy almost all Windows features that may be limited in VMs.

When I print, only the lower left 3rd of the page has any ink on it and it is only a window into the middle of the image. The quality of the print is fine and it prints normally in Photoshop CS6. What's up with LR 5.4? I have tried everything from resetting the printing system to reinstalling the entire OS to upgrading to a new MacPro. Still the same problem.
Thanks for the idea. When I try it in Photoshop, it works. But when I set up the paper size in Aperture to reflect the size of my panorama and try to print, I get an error message that the paper I've loaded in the printer (roll paper) is not appropriate for this print job. Aperture obviously expects a paper sheet with those dimensions. The problem seems to be that in Photoshop, when I click the "Page Setup" button in the "Print with Preview" dialogue box, I change the paper size directly in Mac OS X's paper settings. However, in Aperture there's no button like this, but only a list field with paper sizes and a box to type in a custom size. Even though it looks very similar, the functionality seems to be different.
Am I missing something? -

Frequent problems with PPC mac's with OSX Leopard 10.5.8 updates.
Hi,
Frequent problems in Apple PPC computers with OSX Leopard10.5.8
I have a Imac 17icnh G5 2Ghz 512 ram (Standard not the isight) it had a clean install of OSX 10.5
But after running a update to 10.5.8 with update if Itunesand security etc it was about 6 updates all together.
Now the Imac uses to much CPU for small tasks and uses84-90MB of ram for a Kernal Task.
When I try check permissions in disk utility the CPU goes toabout 80% in something called InstallerB and wont finnsh because there is noCPU power left.
