Problems sending/receiving mail on original iphone

The last 2 days my wife has had problems sending/receiving email on her original iphone. We have yahoo/att email server still using prodigy.net email addresses. This happened several months ago to both of us. My original iphone isn't affected.

Set it up as IMAP or configure it so that, while using POP, it retains a copy of the message on the server so that it can be downloaded again on multiple clients.

Problems sending/eceiving mail

The last month or so I've been having problems sending/receiving mail thru the Apple mail app. the error message is something like, error sending mail, try with another client? Comcast is my mail server, but I also have my Google account accessible thru mail, so I use that to send. I can definitely work around this, but am wondering what I might do to fix it?

Really? What makes you so sure? I've had no problems connecting to any mail servers (within allowed use limits imposed by the server, like not sending from outside their network) using Mail, and I've used it over the years with Earthlink, Adelphia, RoadRunner, GMail, pair.com and Mac.com (those are the ones I remember). If multiple people are having problems with Comcast+Mail, chances are better that Comcast is doing something a little on the edge of dodgy than that Mail is doing something wrong that only shows up with Comcast servers.

imap.gmail is the Google mail server. It doesn't recognize the password that is stored in the iPhone. The problem is that the password or email address you have in Settings for the gmail account is wrong. If you changed the password somewhere else that is the reason. You need to go to Settings/Mail,Contacts,Calendar, tap on the gmail account and enter the correct password. You also need to change it for outgoing mail in Settings.

You need a separate email address but you've already ruled out that solution.

i think you need to contact your email provider - that sounds like an issue on their end and nothing to do with your phone.

The only thing I can think of is that Verizon asked you to change your settings to the new servers without actually having set up your account there first.
I would go back to them for resolution. It's def not a phone issue. Like I said, those settings work for me, but I've only been a VZ customer for about 6 months. If you are a legacy client of theirs you might have been on an older email system that they are trying to retire.

Sending e-mails from my iPhone

For the last few days I have not been able to send e-mails from my iPhone. I get the error message, "connecting to the outgoing server "null" failed". I use Yahoo Mail. I am still receiving e-mails without a problem and all my mail folders are being updated. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to fix this? I have used this function successfully for months so I don't know what is suddenly causing a problem.

For first approach to any issue, reboot.
A reset/reboot is:
Go to Home Screen
Press and Hold Home Button
Keep holding and press and hold Lock Button
Keep holding Both
You will see Slide to Turn Off (Don't let go to slide, just keep holding)
The phone will turn off (in time, but screen will look like it has some white lines)
Keep Holding
When you see the Apple Logo, you can let go.
Turning off via the Slide to Turn off while good and fine to turn off, is more like the Sleep Mode on a computer. Thus any locked up issues in memory remain when you turn back on. A reboot as described is like doing a real Turn off and Turn On on a computer.

If you can't get your mail to work on Snow Leopard after June 30, you might want to try one of these approaches
1. Configuring Mail in Snow Leopard
2. Delete your mail account from Mail preferences and set it up again using the Mail Server Information.

Why am I unable to send e mails from my iPhone, and get message rejected by server and message put in outbox. I have tried changing server ports but to no avail. I am not very technically minded so any suggestions in laymans terms please. This is a big problem as I work away frequently and need to answer e mails. Problems sending e-mail to SMTP

I have been having problems using mail from a secondary account that I set up for my son's macbook. I have no problems sending / receiving e-mail from the main (ADMIN) account. However, when I try to use the same settings in my son's account, I can only receive e-mails. Outgoing e-mail just sits in the outbox and never gets sent. The inbound e-mail server is POP3 and the outbound is SMTP (port 25 is blocked by the ISP). As I said it works fine for the main OS account but not when the same settings are used to set up the e-mail on the secondary OS account. Any advice would be most appreciated.
