Problems setting up S/MIME on Desktop Manager 5.0

I just got a BlackBerry Bold that I'm using with BES and it's working fine, but I'm having trouble setting up the S/MIME portion of it on Desktop Messenger 5.0.1.
I downloaded and installed the BlackBerry S/MIME add-on package, but when I launch Desktop Manager, the option to manage certificates isn't available at all, even after restarting the computer, it doesn't come up, so I can't add any digital certificates to my device.
I downloaded v4.1 of the S/MIME package, was that the right one to use?  Has anyone else seen this happen, and if so, is there a relatively simple solution?
Any help is appreciated!

Sorry, I was away on business and on and off planes.
How I ended up getting it working was to reinstall BB Desktop Manager, and when given the option to modify my installation, I could add S/MIME support that way, and after rebooting I was good.

  • Problem Synching Outlook 2003 Calendar with Desktop Manager 5.0

    Hi there,
I just downloaded the new BB desktop manager software 5.0 (I was reluctant to do so for weeks because I didn't want to start encountering problems, which I now have, of course). Suddenly my Outlook Calendar (2003) is not synching at all with the device, despite my software being configured to do so. All other items synch perfectly well--address book, tasks and memos--but the Address Book synching doesn't even begin, so it's not like I'm getting error messages.
Do I need to go back to the Desktop Manager 4.7--and if so, can someone walk me through uninstalling 5.0 and reinstalling 4.7--or is there a workaround? Trying to avoid spending hours on the phone with Verizon who will just wind up passing me over to BB support!
    Thanks!

  • Sycronize problem with 8120 pearl and BB Desktop Manager

Hi I recently tried to sync my BB with my laptop to update the calendar but it failed.  I have done this in the past and had no problems.  The error message displayed is "unable to read application data" This happens when the desktop manager is tranferring the address book it gets to 87 out of 90 and the message pops up which then stops the sync from continuing and I have not got the added calendar appointments that I wanted.  I have tried resetting my phone by taking the battery out but no luck.  Nothing has changed on either laptop software or phone software they are both running the same versions as when it worked previously.  Any Suggestions?

Thanks, I had already found the solution and you are correct. I had just forgot to come back and mark this as solved. Thanks for the assistance.

  • Desktop Manager calendar synchonization problem - deleting previous appointments

I'm having trouble with calendar synchronizing.  I have my calendar set to retain appointments forever (after I realized that all of my previous appointments were deleted over time as it was previously set for 60 days).  However, the desktop software keeps on trying to delete old appointments.  Any suggestions?

It tries to delete it from Outlook. Not sure when the problem started, I've been using desktop manager for a few years and only noticed the missing calendar details in Outlook when I was looking for info for a recent tax audit.  I was pretty disappointed to realize that the data was gone (any way of retrieving it?).  After looking around on the support forums, I discovered the BB settings were the culprit (perhaps when I upgraded to the 8830 a while ago it was a default setting).  So, I just changed the setting to keep the appointments forever, but when I try to synch again, it still wants to delete the old appointments.  Any suggestions?

  • Synchronization Problems with BlackBerry Desktop Manager 4.5v and Windows Mail Client

BlackBerry (RIM) Desktop Manager 4.5v synchronization setup does not work properly. I cannot synchronize my desktop calendar because the only desktop application formats available are (<None>, Ascii Import/Export and Yahoo), Windows Mail is not an option!
I contacted BlackBerry and the only response I received was that I need the Outlook Express program to synchronize my desktop calendar.
Microsoft upgraded from the Outlook program to Windows mail to provide a better program, which I happen to like! The idea of purchasing the Outlook Express software when there is nothing wrong with my current mail program does not make any sense to me! And will BlackBerry support any Vista system issues if there are any compatibility problems with the old Microsoft mail client?
Has anyone contacted BlackBerry about this issue? Any ideas how to fix this problem?
Why can’t Blackberry (RIM) resolve the synchronization issue? In addition to this problem, you may find that the Desktop Manager Device Switch Wizard does not function with the Treo 650 and BlackBerry 8830 and the Advanced feature in Backup and Restore does not seem to save the any files that you want to restore.
    BlackBerry Please Help!
    Note:
Microsoft Office Standard 2007 is $399, really expensive! Not sure if you can purchase the mail client separately.
    - Microsoft website: [“Outlook Express has been replaced by Windows Mail, an improved e‑mail program with enhancements such as junk e‑mail filtering and protection against phishing messages.”]

    Hello My8830
You can only synchronize contacts with Windows Mail - you can not synchronize calendar, memos, or tasks.  Outlook express does not have these items, and the version of Windows Mail that I am running also does not have them.  Windows Calendar is seperate from windows mail on my version of Vista.
So to clarify it all, downgrading to Outlook Express will still not get you calendar synchronization as it does not have a calendar.
    Cheers

  • BlackBerry Desktop Manager for Mac won't remember my sync preferences

Each time I close BlackBerry Desktop Manager for Mac I and reopen it, I have to set all of my preferences for syncing my Calendar and Contacts again.  The software remembers my selections as long as I don't quit the application, but once I quit it and reopen it they are gone.
I have tried deleting the plist files, uninstalling and reinstalling the software, but nothing fixes this issue.
This is happening on both of my MacBook Pros and with both of my BlackBerry devices.
Both MacBook Pros are running 10.6.1 and I have a BlackBerry Tour running 4.7.1.40 and a BlackBerry Curve 8330m running 4.5.0.138.

despite posts to the contrary there is a big compatibility problem with Apple LION and Blackberry Desktop manager.
BB are pretending that the problemdoes not exist, but just look over all the boards here and elsewhere.

  • NVIDIA nView Desktop Manager

I have been trying and failing to run LR1.0 for the last week, playing with everything I could find in this forum. Total failure - LR froze within minutes every time I tried to run it. Reloaded LR - changed the library - etc etc.
Finally spotted a comment in LR Extra FAQ - Compatibility Issues. "Unconfirmed at present - NVidia's NView Desktop Manager may cause problems with Lightroom"
So I disabled NView Desktop Manager and voila! - LR now runs - perfectly as far as I can tell so far - but I haven't done any real work yet.
OK OK maybe I should have spotted that tip in LR Extra earlier (don't know how long its been there). But if you're having problems with LR and have NView Desktop Manager running, try disabling it.
Windows XP, Intel Core 2 Duo 2.8 GHz, 2GB (now without NView Desktop Manager!)
    Hope this helps someone, Nigel

  • Desktop Manager & script

    Hi,
I have been experimenting with Apple script to enable voice activation of some features. Turning Bluetooth on and off using a script from the forum was a good learning exercise. However I have a problem; I’m using Richard Warehams Desktop Manager (http://desktopmanager.berlios.de/) and I can’t get it to respond using apple script. It may be a feature (or lack off) of the code as it has not been updated since May 2005.
Basically what I want to do is write a script to make it switch desktops. Normally this is done via the OptionCommandn keyboard short cut. Where n is the desktop you are after – I have 1 to 4. I tried putting this into a script but it was just ignored. No error messages, but no noticeable action either!
Could someone please suggest a script I could try or an alternative desktop manager which may work with scripted keyboard shortcuts?
I should mention that I still feel very new to Mac world although I have had the MBP for almost a year.
    Thanks for your help,
    Andy W

Here's the script I have tried. Although a bell rings nothing else happens....
    tell application "System Events"
    tell process "Desktop Manager"
    keystroke "2" using {command down, option down}
    delay 3
    end tell
    end tell
    Any suggestions would be welcome!
    Thanks

  • Desktop Manager not detecting BB via USB

Ok I have an issue... this never happened before, but its really annoying now lol
I hope someone out there has had a similar problem... the friggen answer is probably staring me right in the face, but i'm just missing it.
Anyways only my Blackberry Desktop Software will not detect my Curve 8900 via my USB cable on WIndows Vista 64-bit.  When the cable is plugged in, the phone charges, I am able to access my memory card that I have in the phone within Windows without a problem.  Its just the Desktop Manager will not find the phone via USB.
The phone works fine connecting to Desktop Manager using Bluetooth.  I can sync up no problem there.  Its just the Desktop Manager will not find the phone via USB.
Let me stress the fact that use used to work... I don't get why this has happened.
Nothing appears in my Event Viewer, I get no error messages.  The same phone, with the same USB cable works just fine on a Windows XP computer.  Hell, it even works on the same computer, within a VMWare environment using the same USB port tried on the Windows Vista installation.
I have tried all the steps listed at this link:

nothing seems to want to work

Operating System: Windows Vista Business 64-bit
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 810

    Hello prot0fein,
So I take from your post that the device and the computer communicate but only through your VM on the computer or using mass storage mode on the host.  Am I correct about this?
Can you tell me what devices in device manager appear/disappear when you connect and disconnect your device on the affected computer?

  • Problems installing Desktop Manager 6 on Windows 7

I just got a new computer (3 weeks old now) and I wanted to set up the desktop manager. I downloaded the file from the BB site but when I get to the installer I get an errors message "This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid windows installer package".
I've updated windows and tried re loading the DM but same problem...
    Would really appreciate any help.

    Which version of windows 7?
What kind of errors do you get?
(For example installing under windows 7 starter edition (typically on a netbook) might need some tweaking of the setup.ini file.
I recently installed LabVIEW 8.2 under w7 enterprise 64bit without any problems.

  • Lotus Notes 8 + BB DM 5.0.1: BB Desktop Manager has encountered a problem and needs to close.

I just purchased a Bold 9700 and am trying to sync my Lotus Notes 8 calendar to my BB.  I am using Desktop Manager 5.0.1.  I appear to have set up the syncronization properly because it starts but when it reaches record 1057, I receive a message that reads "BlackBerry Desktop Manager has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience."  When I click on "details" I see the following information:  Error Signature.  AppName:  Desktopmgr.exe   AppVer:  5.0.1.37   ModName:  Insections.dll   ModVer:  7.1.1.129  Offset:  001a32ed.  How can I successfully sync my calendar and BB?

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
Here is an article that may be pertinent:
KB10340 "BlackBerry Desktop Manager has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." during the synchronization process
Otherwise, I would think that record 1057 is a bad record and is causing this problem. You might try figuring out which item that is and deleting it, then trying again.
You also could try activating advanced logging and seeing it that provides more details to help you:
KB01451 How to turn on advanced synchronization logging if a wired synchronization fails
    Hopefully something there is helpful!

  • Backup problem with Desktop Manager 6.1.0.35

I've got a great problem here. DM is set to backup my BB on connection. Backup is hanging at "Backing up RMS databases 11 of 13 records". The only way to get out of it is to shutdown DM on My PC and reboot my BB.
I can't get in to device options on DM to stop auto backup because it tries to backup every time i connect. I'm stuck in a very nasty circle.
Have tried repairing my installation of Desktop Manager 6.1.0.35 through Control Panel bu that made no difference.
Would be very appreciative of any ideas.

Since I can't duplicate this problem on my PC what about running the DM on your PC and not connecting your Storm.
When the DM is open go to 'Tools' and select 'Desktop Options' and make sure none of the boxes are selected and then try "Restore Default Settings" which should select these locations:
    My Documents\BlackBerry\Backup
    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Desktop
Now plug in your Storm. Is it still trying to make a backup? If 'yes', hopefully  ViciousFerret (BlackBerry Technical Advisor) will notice my improper response and will advice you better. Just trying to help and get his attention....
Another way to get attention and a (quick?) answer is to tweet to the Twitter account @BlackBerryHelp. Haven tried it but red about it.

  • Error with Desktop Manager synchronization - won't let me set up synch settings

I have a new PC laptop and want to set it up to synch with my old Blackberry 8310 Curve just like it used to do with the old laptop.
I downloaded the latest Desktop Manager software (version 6.0.0.40) and am trying to set up the synchronization settings, but am not able to.  I called Microsoft to see if there was any problem (I'm using Office 2010), and they said I'd need to talk to Blackberry.
    Here's what's happening:
I connect my Blackberry to my PC laptop.
    I open Desktop Manger 6.0.0.40.
I choose "Organizer" from the left-hand menu, and then "Configure settings."
I get a setup pop-up window that asks me to configure Calendar, Tasks, etc. in turn by checking the box.
I check a box, for example "Calendar Setup" and choose Outlook from the list of programs.
I click "next" and then choose "two-way sync."
I click "next" and get a pop-up error message with title "Intellisync" that reads:  "The operation terminated unexpectedly."
This happens for every type of content I check (calendar, tasks, address book....).
Can anyone shed some light on this?  I'm anxious to get my Outlook useful again and to have my data synching back and forth!
    Thank you in advance!

    Hey elizabethdw,
    Thanks for the reply.
To fix this issue, attempt to do a detect and repair in Microsoft Outlook.  Which is done under Help>Office Diagnostics.
Save your PST information just to cautious!!!  To do this: File>Import and Export>Export to a File>Personal Folder File, then save this file to somewheres where you can find it.
If that does not resolve the issue, perform a clean uninstall of Microsoft Office, and re-install only the full version, restart the computer afterwards, and then attempt to setup the synchronization.
I look forward to your reply.

  • Problems Connecting Device To Desktop Manager and Apploader.exe

Just got a new BB8900 last Friday. On Monday, I encountered a Reload Software: 552 error code and after checking online forums for options on how to fix I ultimately had to reinstall the operating system and reinstall new apps that weren't archived by the reinstall process. Because I feared getting this error again whenever I rebooted the device, I immediately made backups every hour as I was reconfiguring the device and adding back my apps.
Today I was going to do another backup for good measure and once I connected my Blackberry to the computer with Desktop Manager running, Desktop Manager crashed and gave me the following error:
    Problem signature:
    Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
    Application Name: DesktopMgr.exe
    Application Version: 5.0.0.11
    Application Timestamp: 4a4bd539
    Fault Module Name: DesktopMgr.exe
    Fault Module Version: 5.0.0.11
    Fault Module Timestamp: 4a4bd539
    Exception Code: c0000005
    Exception Offset: 000d68f5
    OS Version: 6.0.6001.2.1.0.768.3
    Locale ID: 1033
    Additional Information 1: c4a7
    Additional Information 2: 473b2e845affd1758ca8e66121386d63
    Additional Information 3: 83e8
    Additional Information 4: 72466a8a5092651f7fe609f9ec3f3489
I then tried the APPLOADER.EXE program locating in program files/common files/research in motion/apploader. I had used this program yesterday to try to delete applications 1 by 1 with the hope that one application was causing the 552 error. Now for some reason this program also is having a problem noting the following in the error log file:
Read from location 1010fffc caused an access violation.
I've looked through multiple forums and haven't found a solution. What I can tell you is this:
    1) The phone is working fine but I fear rebooting the phone and getting another 552 error (there were two apps deleted that will be fully deleted on reboot). Would hope everything is fine but I've had two of these 552 errors within 24 and the second one came without any warning. If I get this error there is no way to get to my backup since I can't connect to DM without it crashing.
    2) It doesn't appear to be a sync issue but I deleted the Intellisync folder anyway and it didn't fix the problem.
    3) Have rebooted my machine with no change to problem.
    4) Have reinstalled DM Version 5 (this time without the Roxio Media software) with no change to problem.
    5) Because I now get an error when connecting to DM and trying to run apploader.exe, there appears to be a setting on my phone that might be causing the problems (I have no idea what it may be but the APPLOADER program notes a location violation so maybe the Blackberry software is confused about where to find my Apps?)
    6) The BlackBerry device manager works fine and notes my device and applicable serial number.
After my last backup yesterday I probably only installed 3-4 other apps that I had lost and organized/moved folders around on the phone. So getting this problem so soon after everything was working fine is mindboggling.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Another Update:  I seemed to have found the problem.  While RIM support recommended I do a device wipe I pushed back since the rest of the phone functionality seemed to work fine.  I opted to begin removing applications from the phone one by one and then trying to connect to Desktop Manager.
Once I removed the ZDNet Tech News For IT Professionals and rebooted the phone, I was able to connect and do a backup. I'm sure this app works fine for almost everyone else, but for some unknown reason (maybe it conflicts with another app on my phone), Desktop Manager did not like it and shut down. I initially reinstalled it again and was able to do another backup but an hour later Desktop Manager shut down again (perhaps in doing an update on news it creates a conflict with Desktop Manager).
Anyways summary of learnings since my issue seemed to be somewhat uniqueCurve 8900)
    1) If Desktop Manager shuts down and you've tried other solutions on forums such as deleting the Intellisync folder and reinstalling Desktop Manager, try deleting applications 1 by 1 and rebooting the phone before trying to connect again to Desktop Manager.
    2) If you have had this problem, do frequent backups and keep track of what you add to your phone so in case there's a problem you know the most recent apps to remove (in my case I couldn't get to my latest backup since DM would shut down with the app conflict).
    3) Only consider a device wipe if you have exhausted your apps removal testing.  Apps which came on your phone which note the vendor in the About section of the app as RIM should be fine.  Also while apps on AppWorld are being offered by BlackBerry there is no certainty that they will work on your phone.

  • Updated Desktop Manager 4.7 - 5.0.1 Groupwise 7 problem

    Hi
I had all sorts of problems getting Groupwise 7 (in caching mode) to work with Blackberry Desktop Manager 4.7 and a Blackberry Bold. When I try to synchronise the Blackberyy with Groupwise I get the error message 'Your computer must be connected to the Internet to perform this operation. Please make sure that you are able to connect to the Internet and try again.' I finally sorted it out when I came across a Regedit hack of:   HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Synchronize\0x24a82dfc and changed the STATE from #1 to #0.
I have now updated Desktop Manager to 5.0.1 and find that despite the registry value still being set to #0, I can't get the software to synchronise Groupwise with my Blackberry. Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Mike

Has anybody had any luck with this issue??
