Problems sharing photos: email, uploading, etc

EVERY SINGLE TIME I email a photo or try to upload photos to Facebook, I get the color wheel and have to FORCE QUIT iphoto. Help!

Do you have iPhoto or Mail set at your email client? You can check that in iPhoto's General preference pane:

A quick first fix is this: make a duplicate copy of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your Home()/ Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences..

Problem sharing photos from multiple accounts on one Mac

I am trying to share two different iPhoto libraries from two different User Accounts on the same Mac. In each account I have iPhoto Sharing 'Look for shared photos' and 'Share my photos' checked. I also have the Firewall on with port 8770 enabled.
1. From a Powerbook I can only connect to one library. Once I pick that first library the second library will not load at all. I have to quick and restart iPhoto in order to select the second library. -- I fixed this by turning off my Firewall. With the Firewall off I can switch between the libraries at will. My question, what ports should I enable besides 8770 to allow multiple instances of iPhoto to run? (Just like you need multiple ports to have the ATV connect to multiple instances of iTunes.)
2. When I am configured as above, my two iPhoto applications do not see each other. They can both see and connect to the Powerbook. And the Powerbook can see each running instance. But neither iPhoto instance on the same Mac can see the other. This is new with iPhoto '08. I was able to do this with iPhoto '06.

-both users must have sharing enabled in their iPhoto Preferences
-both users must be logged in and have iPhoto running
-Remember that you can only view the other library. You can't edit the photos or play the saved slideshows or view the made books or burn them to CD or DVD. The books and slideshows will show up as an album. You can play that album as an "on the fly" slideshow. You can drag images from the sharing library to your library in the source column to import them to your library. You can then edit, add to albums, books, slideshow, etc.

You can try one of these three methods:
1- Use iPhoto Library Manager-the paid version
The documentation page will give instructions on how it is done.
2- Sharing one iPhoto library between several users on one machine
3- Share an iPhoto Library in tiger Using ACL's
4- I have also read about ShareAlike
There is no other info on the site about how it works.
I strongly urge anyone wanting to try any of the methods for sharing one iPhoto Library folder among more than one user to backup all iPhoto Library folders before attemptin anything.

Shared Photo Streams - uploads from multiple users?

Hi all,
Quick question regarding the new Shared Photo Stream feature in iOS 6 and OS X 10.8.2 on iPhoto. You can invite others to be a part of your shared Photo Stream, but if this just so they can view the photos you put in there? I was wondering if others could add their photos in there too, or would they need to set up their own Shared Photo Stream? I'm fairly sure this isn't possible yet but just wanted to check.

They can only comment on your photos, they can't add to them. They would have to set up their own shared photo stream.

Problems viewing photos emailed out of iphoto

Friends with Iphonez and Ipads are not able to view my photos emailed out of my Macbook Pro through Iphoto. The photos look distorted (too tall and too wide) and if I send multiple emails containing photos, the same set of photos keeps going out. So weird...can't figure it out.

Problems sharing photos online

In trying to share photos online, which sends them in an e-mail, people receive the e-mail with thumbnails of pictures. When they click on the thumbnail to enlarge it, the picture disappears. What is going wrong? How can my friends see my pictures?

Syncing problems-lost photo's data etc...

Hi, I synced my phone yesterday for the 1st time since february, after syncing it said it was backing up, after about 4 hours a message appeared saying (an error has occured while backing up i-phone) and click to continue back up which i did, when it had finished i unplugged it, when i looked at the phone all of my apps, Photos, recent calls, voicemail, text messages almost everything missing like it had been restored to factory settings. I plugged phone in again and then it started syncing again, when it had finished i unplugged and looked again, most apps were back on but everything from february missing, texts etc..it had re-instated e-mails that i had deleted from months ago, its like its gone back in time. The main thing i am bothered about is my photo's, treasured pictures of my kids, holidays etc...I cant believe whats happened and just wondered if anyone knows if its possible to get my phone back to how it was before yesterdays sync??

Are you kidding me? You have treasured photos of your kids and you haven't backed up your phone in over 6 months?
Leaving precious memories like that on a device that can be lost, stolen, or easily broken is just beyond comprehension to me.
Please, please read the User Guide to see how photos, music and contacts are meant to be synched and saved.
You ARE backing up your home computer, right? Hard drives WILL fail. Just a matter of time.

Problems sharing photos through IPhoto for mac

I am using iphoto9.6 on a mac mini (late 2012).
My experience is not great, I'm a disappointed with the overall speed that everything only mac happens.
I'd like to address each of my problems one at a time, I'm kind of hoping that maybe resolving one problem will solve a lot of the others. (Always the optimist!)
SO.. I want to share a photo through messages, some times it works, often I get this message, some times other things go wrong.
I know thats not much info to go on, but if anyone can tell me what additonal info is required I will do my best to provide it.
One thing I will note is it sounds like my Mac is working its socks off, pretty much all the time, I'm not really asking it to do much, just open a few web pages and view a few photos in iPhoto mainly.

HT204655 Having so many problems sharing photos on Facebook

Using iPhoto with Facebook was a great way to share photos with my friends. The new Photos app with Yosemite is not so great. After figuring out that the Facebook upload limit was 50 photos (is there any way to have the number of photos selected to be displayed somewhere on the screen so that I wouldn't have to guess?), I learned that:
1. I couldn't create a new Facebook album in Photos. Instead I had to upload to the Timeline, and then change the album name from "OS X Albums." Not critical, but it would be easier for me if I new which albums on Facebook I was publishing to.
2. The photos on Facebook were uploaded out of order, necessitating some rearranging the photos after the upload. Would there be any way to upload them to Facebook in the order I intended? With 50 or more photos it would be a lot of work to get them in the right order. Having them uploaded in the correct order will save me a lot of time.
3. I also added descriptions to most of the photos. In iPhoto the descriptions would also be uploaded to Facebook as captions for each photo. The new Photos app didn't include the descriptions with the photos during the upload. I prefer to have this feature so that I can add the commentary before publishing them on Facebook. Would that still be possible? I would like it so that I wouldn't have to type up the captions twice.

Sharing photos, music, calendars, etc

I just got a new imac and did the migration assistant last night. Now, how do I go about keeping the iphoto, itunes and other programs matching each other on the two computers. Also, I haven't yet synced my ipods to the new computer--can I do that without causing problems? Thanks.

Keeping iPhoto and iTunes libraries absolutely in sync is no easy task. You can make an exact duplicate of your iTunes library as it is now on your new computer by doing the following:
1) Get yourself a regular FireWire cable -- you probably already have one if you used the Migration Assistant. Connect the two computers together with this cable.
2) While booting your old computer, hold down the 'T' key. When a FireWire logo appears on screen, release the T key. You should now see your old computer's hard drive on the desktop.
3) Find your Music folder on your old computer's hard drive. It's located in /Users/<<your name here>>/
4) Copy the Music folder from your old computer to the home directory on your new computer (the folder with your name on it). When Finder asks you if you want to overwrite the existing folder, say yes.
This will put your complete iTunes library from your old computer onto your new computer, complete with things like playlists (both smart and regular), statistics about your music, ratings, and soforth.
If you copy your Music folder in the way described above, when you connect your iPod to your new computer, it will sync up just perfectly. It will never even know it's connected to a different computer.
Hopefully this will at least get you started.

Shared photo streams not transferring photos

My shared photo stream was working fine, and then suddenly it wouldn't receive any photos from other users, and wouldn't send them my uploaded pictures? How do i get it to work again? I also got an email that someone subscribed but it never showed up on my phone as subscribed, just invited. I feel like it just needs to refresh or something. Any tips would be appreciated!

Photo stream upload - even when disabled.

I am having an interesting problem - my photos are uploaded to photostream even though I have disabled the option to do so. Also, I cannot cancel this task, only pause it.
Does anyone have any insight as to why this would be the case?

What she wants to do is get all she wants from ipad 1 to new ipad without finishing up with 2 of everything which happen on previous occasion. I realise that she needs to tidy up ipad 1 first and get rid of thousands of emails etc. I need help.

Hi yes that works well when the new ipad hasn't been used. Trouble new one has been used for two months or more, has lots photos email etc etc. I am worried that these will go. When we did iPhone thru same process finished up with two of most things pics and emails. The emails alone were over 2 thousand and wife reluctant to delete them all. I would and just sort pics. Any other ideas

Sharing photos from iphoto 11, why does the photo information not upload when I click with share via email? How can I make sure the photo information and location are shared when the photo (s) are shared.

When I go to share photos in iPhoto 11, The photos transfer to the email I'm sending but the photo information and location don't. The older version of iPhoto did it, why not this version? What am I missing in the process of sharing via email?, Thank You.

When you share to email do you get the following dialogue:

In the iPhoto's 5 preferences pane there is a drop down list for choosing the email program you prefer when sharing photos using email. There is a list of 4 applications in the drop down list. "American Online" is selected. When I click on the list to select a new program, the list goes immediately dim and I cannot change the email program. If I close the preferences dialog and reopen it then the list is reactivated but I still cannot change it without it going dim.
Is there an iPhoto pref file that I can delete that will reset the preferences? Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks.

Hi there,
There is a preference file you can delete and your OS will generate a new one. The drawback, the plist file also contains your albums, etc etc etc. You won't lose any of your photos but you will lose some of the renaming, albums etc, basically what you have done to personalize iPhoto library...
Thr problem you're talking abou has been mentioned before in this forum. I don't know if it is a software issue or an OS issue, and I do not recall if there was a fix...
The easiest way to find the preference list is to open Macintosh HD > username > LIbrary... you can just do a search for 'iphoto' from this window, the file will be named com.apple.iphoto.plist - I would drag file to desktop and open iPhoto and see if it helps with your email issues, if not you can drag back to orginal location, etc...
Another thing you can try, create another user, open iPhoto and see if same email issues occur, if it does, than the problem is with iPhoto application, if not than it COULD be the preference file...
EDITED: if you cannot fix your email problems, simply use the 'export' function, save to desktop and you should be able to find and attach the photo to any of your preferred mail clients...
