Problems signing into the Mac App Store?

The App Store shows I have 2 updates to software that I recently purchased (Final Cut Pro and Motion).  When I click on the updates I am prompted to sign in... when I enter my login information I keep getting the error message - "There was an error in the App Store. Please try again later. (13)"
Any suggestions?

If you have FruitMenu installed, here is a workaround: First, put your Apple ID into the clipboard (by typing it into any text field and using the Copy command). Second, in the "Enter password" window, triple-click on the Apple ID field, which should open a menu that allows you to Paste in your Apple ID from the clipboard. Now, put your Password into the clipboard, triple-click on the Password field and Paste your Password into the field. You should then be able to Sign In.

  • I can't sign into the Mac App Store any more. Can anyone help?

When I click on Sign In nothing happens.  App Stores on my other devices are working fine.
This is the first time I've used the discussion forums so I hope I am going about this in the right way.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities, JohnPaul2!
Try restarting the App Store. Just quit it and open it back up again and try it again. Then try purchasing a free app and sign in there.
Of course, you can also try the well-known "restart your computer" trick. Worked for me a month ago when this happened to me.

  • I can't log into the Mac App Store.

    I can't log in.
    iTunes, check.
    Apple online, check.
    Apple ID, check.
It's just the Mac Store.  When I try to open an app I purchsed on this computer with this ID it responds with 'unknown error'
I have no libraries to delete, I've repaired disk permissions.
This is frustrating because it happens very frequently
I'm runing Lion.  Is it Lion?  ***?

Back up all data. Don't continue unless you're sure you can restore from a backup, even if you're unable to log in.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click the following line on this page to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1 or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Boot into Recovery. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not  going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Can't log into the Mac App Store in 10.6.6 Update

While the app store loads, the sign in screen opens behind the app store application. When i go there to enter my apple ID, etc., it won't let me enter anything. Why is this?

  • Can't sign in to Mac app store with known-good ID

I can't sign into the Mac app store from my mini. Everything else works fine (iTunes store, icloud.com) and I can log in to the Mac app store (and everything else too) on my Air. So, it's just the Mac app store and just from my Mac mini.
I rebooted. I deleted the "storeagent" preferences file. I reset the password (to the same one). Still won't work. It just says "unknown error."

just the Mac app store and just from my Mac mini.
Try deleting the cache associated with the App Store.
Open a Finder window. From the menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type of copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Restart your Mac then try the App Store.

  • Every time i try to sign in to the mac app store i get the message 'an unknown error has occurred"

I can sign into the iTunes store but not into the Mac App Store. I don't have this problem on my other Mac running the same Mac OS X 10.6.8.

Try deleting the cache associated wi the App Store.
Quit the App Store if it's open.
Now open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
    Type or copy/paste:   ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore
Click Go then move the Cache.db file from the com.apple.Safari folder to the Trash.
    Try the App Store.

  • My Mid-2011 Macbook Air becomes extremely hot when installing apps from the Mac App Store and when deleting apps

My Mid-2011 Macbook Air 13-inch (OSX 10.8.1 Mountain Lion) becomes hot to the touch when trying to delete large documents, watching videos after waking it from sleep-mode and when installing applications from the Mac App Store. This has also been happening with OSX Lion before I upgraded it to Mountain Lion.

The Apple Support Communities are an international user to user technical support forum. As a man from Mexico my first language is Spanish. I do not speak English, however I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.
What needed to be done the day that you set up the new Mac was go into the Mac App Store (MAS), sign into your iTunes/MAS Apple ID, go to the Purchases pane and Accept the iLife apps that would have been there in a special section. That would have sent you Mac's unique identifier code to Apple's servers and verified that this Mac was eligible for the bundled iLife suite and then registered these apps into your MAS account.
You might try going to  ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore/adoption.plist, delete the adption plist, restart the Mac and then go to the Purchaes pane and see if you can Accept the apps into your account.

  • Getting Error Message when trying to use Software Update in the Mac App Store...

    Hello,
I was wondering if someone knows what this error message in the Mac App Store means. I am trying to run Software Update by clicking in the Apple Menu however, I am not able to see my available updates and instead get the following message on the Mac App Store:
I have tried to fix the error by deleting both the Mac App Store Caches and plist files in the user library and made sure that I am properly logged into the Mac App Store with my personal Apple ID.
    What else can I do?

    aayushp wrote:
I've been having the same issue. It was all fine until yesterday when I was searching for updates.
Since when have you been seeing this error message?
Last time I checked for an update was about 2 weeks ago and there were no errors reported. However, today I wanted to update iTunes to version 10.7 and decided to use the standalone installer rather than the SU version. Still, I decided to run the MAS Software Update function in order to ensure that my computer had all its software up-to-date and then I get this message. I don't think that me installing iTunes is to blame. Probably, it could be an internet connection problem on Apple's end I am still submitting a bug report to Apple.
Now one question, who is your ISP (internet service provider)? In my case I have Comcast and I am in Florida.
    Thanks for your reply!

  • I accidentally erased Lion from the mac app store

I accidentally erased Lion from the mac app store "purchased" tab. I already bought it. How can i re-have it in that tab, in order to download the latest version and burn it ?
    Please help me, Luca.

Go into the Mac App Store. Under the main menu, select "Store", then "View My Account". Sign in , then look under the hidden Purchases section, and un-hide the app you hid by "erasing" it from the purchases.
Anamusic, that discussion is confusing, because it directs you to iTunes Store, which won't help the OP at all.

  • Using Gift Cards with the mac app store. (To buy lion os)

I have a 20 dollar gift card to buy lion ($30). If I enter this into the mac app store, will it just charge me $10?

  • Re-install an app from the Mac App Store without paying

I bought an app from the app store and afterwards deleted it.
It is gone now and I want to install it again, though obviously I don't want to pay 12$ again.
When I looked it up on the app store it showed me the price as usual.
How could I re-purchase it without actually purchasing?

Log into the Mac App Store with the Apple ID you originally used.

  • Aperture 3, the Mac App Store, and Multiple Computers

    Can anyone answer this question:
I have Aperture 3 installed on my Macbook Pro since the Feb 2009 release. Obviously, I bought the DVD for install. And of course, when I log into the Mac App Store, it shows as installed on my computer.
If I bought a second mac and logged into the MAS, would it "know" that I have Aperture 3 linked to my account, realize it was not installed on the new mac and allow me to install it, or would I have to purchase a new copy at $80?
    Thanks,
    Bryan

    Bryan,
Only apps bought via the MAS can be updated or downloaded to another computer. Even though it shows AP as being installed, you'll notice it doesn't appear in your list of purchases - which is where you'd go to re-install. It only recognizes that you already have the application in order to prevent you from unintentionally buying it again.
But if you purchase another Mac you can certainly use your current DVD or download the trial to install it on that second machine - AFAIK the EULA doesn't prevent this as long as its for the same user and not being used on both machines at the same time.
I have the sneaking suspicion that Aperture will no longer offer upgrade pricing and instead charge a lower fixed rate (a la iWork) for each major version. What this means in the long term is a bit fuzzy though: while I'm all for lower prices, $79 is clearly consumer territory and I'm not sure how this will affect the orientation of the app in the future. That, and the influx of non-pro users this price drop will certainly bring. I believe the more users there are the better, but I just hope Apple stays focused on Aperture's primary mission and continues to cater to pro photographers. It would break my heart to see this amazing software devolve into iPhoto Plus...

When I try to sign on to Mac App Store I get the message "Your device or computer cannot be verified" Yet I can sign on in iTunes no problem.  I've tried all the suggestions from App Support but no luck. What am I doing wrong?

What troubleshooting techniques have you tried? Have you restarted the app? Have you restarted your computer?
One idea is to Trash this file; Mac HD/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist and restart.
