  • Major Problems since day one

Posting this on behalf of my mother. (who BT have cut off in the course of an ongoing dispute over payments). Since she signed up with BT, There have been a number of issues, ranging from deceptive selling practices, refusal to provide sales call transcripts, breach of contract with regards to payment terms, outright hopeless customer service, both with regards to addressing problems, alongside a lack of proactive company-client interactions, and finally, the complete removal of all service whilst payments are in dispute, effective leaving my other unable to contact BT - her supplier - from her own home - this effectively acts as coercion on BT's part.
My mother signed up to BT as a result of an inbound sales call, where BT's representative and my mother, to our joint best knowledge (as BT have yet to send recordings and transcripts of the call) that my mother could both a) Pay her bill monthly, as opposed to quarterly, and b) that the package my mother was signing up to included unlimited broadband. My mother later phoned BT to sign up after comparing the deal she had been offered with her current TalkTalk package.
While my mother admits she cannot recall the exact content of her inbound call, it should be remembered that she had discussed terms with a representative prior to the call, and was in her knowledge, agreeing to those terms. If the BT representative she was in contact with when she made contact did not correct my mother, or firmly outline the terms, BT can arguably have been seen as changing the contract terms without notifying the signing party - a practice which is, to my knowledge, illegal, and if not, certainly immoral, and not a good way to conduct business.
The main sticking point is the broadband charges, which are the charges in dispute. My mother signed up under the presumption that she was on the unlimited option (later discovered to be option 3) due to the household being heavy users due to the data using devices in the household at the time being as follows:
2 games consoles with online capabilities
    3 smartphones
1 desktop computer -mine- with a premium Spotify account, regularly used
Another desktop - my sister's - which streamed a large amount of content through iPlayer and YouTube
1 laptop, belonging to my mother's partner, with a recently opened Spotify Free (unlimited ad-supported streaming for 6-months) account, again resulting in a large amount of streaming
With this in mind, my mother had been led to believe that she would be on a similar package to her TalkTalk package at the time, which had Unlimited broadband (Subject to fair use). Given that the representative which made the outbound call which started the process, to our knowledge, confirmed both terms and prices, this could be considered as an oral contract - legally binding in both Scots and English Law - meaning that any changes made without notification would surely render the contract null and void.
My mother and the household then proceeded to use the service on the assumption that it was an unlimited one. The first sign of trouble arose when the first bill arrived after 3 months as opposed to after the first, despite the terms agreed being monthly payments. Whilst the bill stated that my mother was signed up to option 2, my mother didn't contemplate that this was a lesser package than the one agreed to, and instead thought that the abnormally high bill was down to installation charges etc. and thus, the household continued to use the service on the assumption of it being an unlimited one.
When the 2nd bill (April 2012) came through, it became clear that the bill was high due to usage above the download limit - a limit which my mother was unaware existed, due to her being under the impression that the terms she had agreed to included unlimited broadband. Whilst BT have pointed out that they sent notifications to my mother's BT account, My mother feels that it would have been good customer service to phone her and make her aware that the package she was on wasn't adequate -mainly because it wasn't what was agreed to- and if she would like to upgrade - to the package she had agreed to.
My mother refused to pay this bill until the issue was addressed, and indeed she offered to pay the price differential between option 2 and option 3. Bearing in mind my mother had been mislead, this is arguably, on her part, a noble gesture.. BT instead refused to agree to this course of action and  instead blocked both in and outgoing calls; Stopped BT vision; and cut off her broadband. This was temporarily resolved when my mother pointed out that the payments were being withheld due to a dispute, and service continued until a couple of days ago, when all services were again discontinued. This includes the ability to contact the emergency services, as my mother found out when my estranged father – under a non-harrassment order and just released from prison – attended the house, leaving my mother unable to contact the police, potentially putting her life at riskWhilst I understand that this is BT's prerogative, I wish to point out that they steadfastly refused my mother's resolution. Her contact with BT's Call centres has been, to put it lightly, unconstructive, with Call centre reps acknowledging that the charges WERE excessive, but that Management were unwilling to budge. This to me, smacks of a deliberate attempt to NOT resolve the problem by BT.
As my mother's attempts at engaging with BT customer service have been unproductive, I have offered to take it up on her behalf.
    To summarise:
My mother was missold a service after having been misled -whether by accident or by design- with regards to her contract (Oral contracts being binding in both Scots and English law)
My mother was notified of going over "broadband limits" which she should not have been subject to, through a channel she was not aware of.
BT actively placed my mother in harm's way by cutting off ALL services – including contact of the emergency services from the landline – without any notification
My mother's most recent bill, dated June 2012, contains the following charges:
    BT Home Hub 3.0
    13 Jun 12
You have left BT Total Broadband within 12 months ? so this charge is for
the cost of your broadband equipment
    £46.00
    Broadband and Calls
    13 Jun 12
You cancelled this service while on contract - so this charge is for your
Package to the end of your contract
    £148.93
    Broadband Access Service
    13 Jun 12
This charge is for the cessation of your Broadband - for further
    information please see http://www.bt.com/ceasecharge
    £30.00
    Final Payment for Vision+ box
    13 Jun 12
You cancelled your BT Vision service whilst in contract - so this is the
deferred payment charge for this service.
    £199.00
BT Vision Unlimited contract for 12 months
    13 Jun 12
You cancelled this service while on contract - so this charge is for your
TV to the end of your contract
    £10.06
All pertaining to consequences of cancellation
+ excessive usage charges (£50 for the period April - June 2012 inclusive)
+ £78.59 in what, to my knowledge, is the disputed payment for excessive broadband
    + the following
    Other one-off charges
    16 Apr 12
Charge for reconnection of line after outgoing calls were barred
    £12.00
    Late payment charge
    £7.50
the total of the above comes to £582.02 . However, due to my above point, Any payments with regards to cessation of contracts are arguably null and void due to the nature of the contract (altered without consent of the signing party). none of the goods or services above would have been used or sought under the terms BT were apparently working under. In consideration that the above value is more than that of the bill itself, my mother would be happy with the following:
1: A written apology, resumption of her services ( Free Evening and Weekend calls, BT Vision) PLUS a complimentary upgrade to BT Infinty option 2 Broadband services at the rate of BT option 2 until October 2012, at which point my mother is free to either continue using the service at the rate advertised as of June 21st, 2012; or to cancel her BT services without pain or penalty - including but not limited to package cancellation charges; service cessation charges; charges for equipment, and any and all other charges triggered by contract cancellation
    OR
2: A written apology; cessation of any and all services without pain or penalty - including but not limited to package cancellation charges; service cessation charges; charges for equipmentl and any and all other charges triggered by contract cancellation; a refund of £46.92 - the difference between the bill, and the charges pertaining to cancellation of the breached contract. + A £50 goodwill payment in acknowledgement that BT's actions actively placed her in harm's way
My mother is open to discussions with BT at the email address provided to the company. Contact details removed from public forum... - Mod
This post also serves as 8 weeks notice from today  (June 21st, 2012) prior to the opening of a dispute with the Communication's Ombudsman as required by Ofcom for the filing of a complaint to BT's ADR scheme. In addition to this, an edited version of the post will be sent to media which deal specifically with consumer rights if there has been no contact prior to July 12th, 2012. these will include, but are not limited to BBC's Watchdog.

    Hi Ross,
If you would like the moderator team to investigate this for you, please fill out our contact form (the link to which you can find in my profile in the "about me" section) and we'll see what's going on with your mother's account.

  • Having problems since latest 10.5.7 update: com.apple.doc "Bus error"

    Hello,
Since this morning, after installing the latest Mac OS updates, my Mac has been really slow, and the dock never appears. My console messages keep printing the following message:
com.apple.launchd[83] ([0x0-0x18a18a].com.apple.dock[929]) Exited abnormally: Bus error
and the system log keeps printing the following related massages:
May 18 20:20:38 nachobike ReportCrash[947]: Formulating crash report for process Dock[945]
    May 18 20:20:38 nachobike ReportCrash[947]: Saved crashreport to /Users/<username>/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/Dock2009-05-18-202037nachobike.crash using uid: 501 gid: 501, euid: 501 egid: 501
Does anyone know what might be causing this, and how I can fix it?
    Thanks!

Since the problem is with the OS and not just the user account -
I'd download the Apple Combo Update from here:
http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10_5_7_ComboUpdate and after run it again. No change?
    Then
Reinstall Mac OS using "Archive and Install" method which doesn't affect your user account: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1545 - Preserve User and Network Settings
    Then, after repairing permissions
    Run the combo update again.
    Repair Permissions 1 last time.

  • Nothing but problems since day one

We've had fios for a couple of months and I'm so sorry we left Brighthouse! We had a stb and remote replaced in the first 24 hours and is been downhill from there.
Both stb's reboot at random, sometimes shut off while watching recorded shows from the mdvr.
Last week I manually set 13 episodes of a show to record consecutively, and none of them did. No conflict, they just didn't record and the dvr history doesn't show them being set.
I've had a number of shows set, and the program name on the recording is right, but the actual show is wrong... Many times!
One series was set to record yet it didn't the last two weeks.
I try to set manual recordings only to be told there is a conflict, when nothing else is set for that day and time.
Too often while skipping ahead it will jump to end of a program.
Two nights ago at 2am, the stb's rebooted and then I couldn't do anything but change channels. No other buttons on the remote worked. The info button prompted for a parental code, which we've never used. I spent 45 minutes on hold for tech support (after calling once before and being disconnected by the system) only to have the box reboot 5-6 more times and finally work again.
Last week we were streaming a movie through Amazon and it said the connection speed was .8mbps. We pay for 20g service! Had to stop the movie because it was buffering every 30 seconds.
The router is in a central location, but we get almost no connection on wireless in the bedrooms.
And today, one stb has been rebooting every 3 minutes for the last 2 hours, and the internet is spotty.
We are paying for services that aren't being rendered. They need to get their act together. They are a joke and should be embarrassed at the plethora of issues we are all clearly struggling with. 99% of the posts here aren't even answered by Verizon. Shocking...

That's because this isn't a Verizon support forum.  It's a peer-to-peer forum meant for customers to help each other.
Occasionally a moderator will escalate an issue to Verizon support, but there is no guarantee that will happen.
If you think other customers might be able to help, you'll need to provide more details as we don't know anything about your problems and equipment beyond what you tell us.
    Good Luck.

  • Mac Mail problems since day one

    1. Through numerous OS's and different computers, I have always had to drag open my mail page a bit to get the missing part of the mail to pop in. In other words I open an e-mail the first paragraph is there nothing else. I click on the bottom corner drag open a bit and the rest of the mail pops in.
    2) When I use the Bcc. address field, the addresses used ARE NOT SAVED with my mail in my sent mail folder. I have no way of knowing whom I sent my mailing to.
    Any remedies to these problems

I just hate looking at all those long headers on each
    and every email.
No need to do that. Just select View > Message > Long Headers (or use ⇧⌘H) for the individual messages as necessary. To make it really easy, add the button to the toolbar. The option toggles between long & default headers, so a quick pair of clicks shows & hides the extra info.

  • HP Pavilion dv7 Problems from day 1

I have had problems since day 1.  In every single case, I received not one bit of help whether it was in warranty, or out.  DL's from Microsoft Updates to the computer in the last 2 years has caused a lot of problems which in turn caused more problems.  For instance...Startup Programs which are embedded into Defender.  Microsoft "deleted" Defender a couple of years ago, or so, and because that's where the startup programs are, they are no longer accessible, so I can't change them. So, that was the very first truly major problem I had.  Next, DL's are not supported after 7 years.  For a person who knows nothing about computers, they need automatic  not "go to the manu website, and locate it yourself".
When I first got the computer, I also got the free upgrade to 7.  Ah, but guess what?  I ran both discs until the second told me to UNINSTALL THE MONITOR or 7 wouldn't work right!!!!  I called HP, and called, and called, and called, and called for the entire time of warranty and out of warranty, and every one of the people on the other end said to just uninstall the monitor, then reinstall it!  You cannot do that on boot discs you make yourself which is what was required when I activated this computer in 2008!  And, they kept telling me to get it from the manu?  I read others who attempted to do this with, and without, installing, and many of them said their computers were "gone".   I don't know who their support was then, or now, but I couldn't understand a word they said.  So, I never upgraded!  Glad it was free!
Then, keyboard freezes every so often.  It won't work.  I had to reboot over and over several times over the course of weeks to get it to work again UNTIL accidentally discovered how to fix it easier.  You just put the computer to sleep with the power button.  Wait a few mins, then wake it back up, but you shouldn't need to do that.  And, HP is FULLY aware of the problem, but they never sent a fix, or anything else.
As for the jumping cursor?  I have both the touchpad and an external mouse.  I have had this problem for ages.  I gave up trying to figure it out.
Since Microsoft's update prior to the last one, now, I can't type for long before the computer  acts as if it is "backing something up" every 5-10 minutes, but usually it's random with the time.  I'm an author, and this has become completely annoying.   But, I have never had good support.
I've used msconfigure, now.  I'll see how that works, but you shouldn't have to turn anything off at all!   I agree with the person earlier.  They don't care.  I won't be buying another one due to their lack of support, and lack of knowledge from that support along with the small ooopsies they refused to fix.

I have iPad mini. Siri's microphone icon comes on. I make request, absolutely nothing happens, never has since day one.  What is wrong?

    Hello,
I'm sorry you're running into problems with your system.  It sounds like you might have multiple issues going on, but to dig deeper we're going to need more specifics.  Here's a good post that describes what we'll need and how to generate crash logs:
How to report a crash with Flash Player
In addition, you might want to consider either reverting back to a previous version of Flash Player, see this page for archived versions, or installing our latest Flash Player 11 RC release.
I'm not sure what is going on with your pdf files, but I don't believe it's Flash Player related.  Can you take a screenshot of the blank window that is appearing?  That might give us some clues on what's going on.
    Thanks,
    Chris

  • Since day light savings, events are not saving in my calendar. Has anyone else had this problem?, Since day light savings, events are not saving in my calendar. Has anyone else had this problem?

Since day light savings, events are not saving in my calendar. Has anyone else had this problem?, Since day light savings, events are not saving in my calendar. Has anyone else had this problem?

    Greetings,
I have not heard of that issue although some people have reported events showing an hour earlier / later (though I haven't seen that personally).
    Questions:
What version of the Mac OS are you running (Apple > About this Mac)?
Can you make an event and then it just disappears?
Are you using iCloud / MobileMe / Google / Yahoo / Some other server based calendar?
    Try these in order:
Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Language & Text > Formats > Region. Region should be set to the country of your choice. Do not have it set to "Custom" as this can have unexpected results in the iCal window.
Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Date & Time and make sure the Date and Time are correct and that the correct Time Zone is selected.
If that doesn't resolve the issue:
    1. First make an iCal backup:  Click on each calendar on the left hand side of iCal one at a time highlighting it's name and then going to File Export > Export and saving the resulting calendar file to a logical location for safekeeping.
    2. Go to iCal > Quit iCal
    3. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
--- NOTE: To get to "Home > Library" in Lion: Click anywhere on the desktop and then click on the "Go" menu at the top of the computer screen while holding down the "option" key on the keyboard.  You will see "Library" in the menu.
    4. Launch iCal and test.
    If the issue persists:
    1. Go to iCal > Quit iCal
    2. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
--- NOTE: Removing these files may remove any shared (CalDAV) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.
    3. Launch iCal and test.
    Hope that helps.

  • Sniffer Result Code: 3 / CUDA-Problems since Mavericks update

Hey Guys, first, thanks a lot for helping / or checking this out.
I have this problem since upgrading to Mavericks from Mountain Lion.
After upgrading I noticed there is a CUDA-Panel in my System prefs - which was new to me, having the classic onboard ATI Radeon of my MacPro.
Starting After Effects since then results in:
Last log message was: <140735271506704> <GPUManager> <2> Sniffer Result Code: 3
Generating crash log, which may take a few minutes.
then OSX tells me AE has stopped working.
    System Specs:
    MacBook Pro
    15 Inch,
    Late 2011,
    AMD Radeon HD 6750M 512MB,
    OSX 10.9.2 (13C64)
So it's the classic on Board graphics card and nothing NVIDIA/PC-fancy.
    What I've done so far:
Installed newest CUDA-Version (even though, the system prefs plane tells me it needs an update, even when downloading the newest from NVIDIA)
Deinstalled and installed the whole CC-Suite, cleaned it, made a new admin-user, deinstalled again, installed on the news user (same problem), installed on the old one.
CUDA-drivers deinstalled from within the terminal (killing all relevant NVIDIA.kext and GeForce.bundle files), rebuild the extensions files with kext-utility.
Used disk-utility in the system and by rebooting with COMMAND+R, checked the volumen and the permissions, nothing Adobe relevant came back.
    I'm kinda very stuck here...
Any help would be very welcome.
    Thanks

The problem is that you installed CUDA software on a computer that has no CUDA-capable hardware. Don't do that.
You must remove the CUDA framework from your computer. See the last part of this article:

  • Retina MacBook Pro sleep problem since 10.9.2

Ever since updating to 10.9.2 earlier in the week my macbook refuses to wake from sleep each morning.
Having looked at the console logs it seems that perhaps the problem is related to it not actually managing to go to sleep properly.
I closed the lid on the computer at about 19:07 as can be seen in the first of these console dumps. I put the laptop in my bag and went home, where the laptop stayed closed in my bag all night. Apparently the computer awoke 70 minutes later. In the morning, back at the office, I left the lid open for a good 5 minutes before deciding to reboot at 9:37, so it seems that the computer was indeed turned off as there was no activity in these minutes.

  • Problems with java logging utility

    Hi,
I am having a few problems with java's logging framework.
When I create a logger using
    Logger log = Logger.getLogger("my.com");
and log my messages using this "log" object, the messages are logged to System.err which is my console. But when I add a Filehandler to this Logger object, I get log messages both in the file and the standard error.
The problem is that I want to supress logging to the standard error but do not know how to do this. I tried a few things:
    1) If I close the standard error (System.err.close() ), things work fine but I can't afford doing this since other parts of my application might use System.err for some purpose.
    2) I thought that , by default, a ConsoleHandler object is added to the Logger object. So I thought I might get around the problem if I close() this ConsoleHandler object. But, to my surprise, log.getHandlers() returns an empty array by default. So there is no ConsoleHandler attached to it.
Any info. regarding it will be very much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Arch.

    Logger.setUseParentHandlers(false)

  • Wifi problem since upgrade in iMac 27"

Since a copuple of days my wifi stop work suddenly. I can't detect any wireless network on my imac 27" with 10.7.4. Must restart to work. I Reinstall my OS no problem since updated to 10.7.4. Can somebody hel me? Please.

    Hi all,
To start a point on the server changes between 3.2 and 4.1 :
    * We went from a 32-bit Ubuntu server to a 64-bit and have followed the installation procedure of 4.1 by changing the settings of linux such as requested
    * The problems described are only in Apex, so we repeat an installation now in case we made an error
I tried to use TKPROF but I did not find a lot of information in the result output so I gave up. I certainly did not understand all !
I use the view apex_workspace_activity_log to find something ... and I find a lot of things but nothing directly closed to the problem.
At this point I have to explain our applications organisation :
    * A connexion with validation via LDAP (AD) (no problem)
    * A core application as a crossroads to other applications (via URL and &SESSION.)
It seems that this central application have never log in apex_workspace_activity_log ? very strange, like this application are in cache ?
In addition, we are often disconnected after some idle time.
The problem is like a random time out (10 to 20 seconds) whatever the application used (builder or user application). this is not a problem specific to an application.
We have no idea to search ... so we test a new install, maybe parameters on Ubuntu ?
    Thanks for your answers.

  • Has anyone else had problems since the latest itunes/ipod update?

since i got my ipod and itunes updated, ive had nothing but problems with my ipod. sometimes it freezes, and when i connect it to the computer its all of a sudden corrupted. Sometimes this happens when i connect it to my computer to charge, and gets stuck on the do not disconnect screen. Sometimes ill be listening to music or watching something on my ipod and itll turn off randomly for no reason, then the apple symbol will come on as if i turned the ipod on again. Right now my ipod is frozen on the do not disconnect screen, and i have no choice but to restore it, however it wont even show up on itunes when its frozen sometimes, like right now. Has anyone else had problems since the latest ipod update?

As i've posted in this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=746408&tstart=30
I've tried everything others have suggested without any luck.
    Now I'm stuck with a 300 bucks mp3 jalopy.
My big question here is :
why aren't we hearing from apple? why aren't they saying something like "yeah we messed things up but be patient. we are trying our best to fix it..." ?
I was thinking to buy the macbook pro but now I'm afraid of the day things will get messy with that too.
