Problems solved in new MBP?

This question is for people who just got their MBP(this week and last week). Is it problem-free? I purchased a 2.2 model last month and experienced yellow screen, crashes...etc. My store has just received a new shipment, and they are giving me a new unit. Should I take it or wait til August? I think I can only wait so long, My PB is dying on me. Suggestions please!

Take the new one that they will give you now.
With a new shipment, it should be one with the bugs worked out.
You need it now, take it now. If there should be anything wrong with it, then they can replace it yet again.
If you are worried, ask to open the box right there and go over it with a genius; or take it home and give it a good work out both on ac power adapter, then on battery while calibrating and it will give you a good idea what you have.
You can sit right there and use the Apple Store Airport wifi to do the software updates so that you are ready to go before you go home. (It took me about 15 minutes to get all the updates and install right there... maybe 300 mbs.) Do the download and save pkgs option so that you can reapply updates later if you want to restore via the install dvds.
Oh, and regarding your question about right now, I do like mine and have had no problems with it and that is having applied 10.4.10 right there (had 10.4.9 on it) Applied the quicktime and Itunes 7.3, it did have to do several restarts but, boyo, is it ever faster than my 1.67ghz PBG4! This time, I let software update to all the work but there was absolutely nothing to lose and there was nothing lost!
edit: and oh, yeah, I got mine yesterday morning!

    I previously had this problem on two 15" MBPs and fixed it on both by downing the following:
    1.) Install 10.4.6 update
    2.) Delete system keychain entry and any login keychain entries for the wireless network
    3.) Go back to System Preferences -> Network and re-enter the login and password for the network.
    Since then they have both reconnected to the network automatically with no problem. Before that I had the same symptoms you describe.
    Thanks for replying. The issue that I have to go
    through with my 15" is that whenever it sleeps or I
    reboot I have to turn off Airport, turn it back on,
    find my wireless network and reconnect. The guy I
    talked to at the Apple store told me that was normal,
    but I have never had to do that with other laptops I
    have owned nor do I need to do that when I boot into
    XP using boot camp. <shrug> Just wondered if that was
    common to all MBP's, just the 15 or just mine hehe.

  • Need details of CLOB problems solved by new drivers

    Hi all. I found a Tech Note on the Adobe site about updated
    drivers:
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=42dcb10a&sliceId=2
    In the Notes section (near the end), it states, "Oracle users
    should use the latest 3.5 drivers for Oracle 10g R2 support and
    because all known issues with clobs are resolved in this set of
    drivers."
    Does anyone know where I can find documentation on exactly
    what the "all known issues with clobs" that were solved are?
    Thanks.

    I understood this part:
    {color:#ff0000} its Possible.
    All you have to do is, just set the same RootApplication module for 2 pages.
    and use retainAM=Y when navigating between the pages.
    this should be enough...
    And when navigating to second page, don't call vo.executeQuery() or anything that flushes the pending changes in the VO{color}
    Now for this part:
    {color:#ff0000}
    while navigating to second page, just find the second row you want to update using vo1.findByprimarykey()
    and use vo.setCurrentRow(firstChildRow) method at first Child's VO to refresh the rows of the second Child
    {color}
    I will put it this way,
    h2. Page1
    h4. Invoice Header
    Master Field 1 MasterField 2
    Master Field 3 MasterField 4
    h3. Advanced Table for Child Record (Invoice Lines)
    Row1 Field1_1 Field1_2 image1_3
    Row2 Field2_1 Field2_2 image2_3
    Row3 Field3_1 Field3_2 image3_3
    Row4 Field4_1 Field4_2 image4_3
    On Clicking the image in any of the rows, we will be taken
    to the Page2 where we will have to
    enter Child Records for each of the Child Row selected in Page1.
    h3. Page2
    h4. Advanced Table for Child Records (Distribution
    h4. Lines) for each Child Record(Invoice Line) in Page1
    Row1 Field1_1 Field1_2 Field1_3
    Row2 Field2_1 Field2_2 Field2_3
    Button to go back to Page1
    Let me assume that the Child VO for the Page1 is VO1 and that of Page2 is VO2
    Now According to what you have adviced, i interpreted that, suppose Clicking on the Image2_3 of Row2 of Page1, I would go to the Page2 and there in the PR of the form, i would find the Row selected using OARow Row2=VO1.findByprimarykey()
    and then set it as the Current Row using VO1.setCurrentRow(Row2)
    where Row2 is the Row that we had selected in Page1. So doing this would automatically refresh the Child Rows in Page2 for Row2 selected in Page1. And then i can go back to Page1 and continue the same for the other rows.
    Sorry for making this too long. Needed to make sure that I was clear in asking my Question. :8}

  • Anyone NOT having Keyboard problems with newer MBP!

    After reading about all the keyboard problems on the newer MBPs, is there anyone NOT having keyboard lockups or dropping letter problems? Looking to purchase a MBP soon but after reading about the many keyboard problems I will probably postpone or decide to get a different machine.

    There might be a couple of things to try. You could borrow an external keyboard to use for a while--or even buy a cheap one used, and see if you still have problems or not. If you don't, there's likely a problem with the MBP keyboard itself.
    Also, if you have access to an Apple Store, you might be able to make an appointment with the genius bar and get a definite diagnosis. It may be possible to arrange to get in a replacement keyboard at the Apple Store and have them fix it while you wait. Don't know for sure if that would be possible, but it's worth asking. Same with an Apple authorized repair shop--it might be possible to get it fixed without having to send it off.
    Good luck!

  • New MBP - wireless/internet access networking problem - a summary!

    Greetings!
    New MBP here, with all the trimmings (MacOS X 10.4.10 - Safari 3 Beta). New also to the Apple/MAC world
    MBP >> wireless networking into a Linksys WRT54G router and >> thru HughesNet DW7000 Satellite Internet connection (not the fastest, but hey, the US and especially rural areas are NOT S. Korea when it comes to speedy internet connections!
    Frankly, I bought into it for two reasons: First, hearing about the vaunted Mac a/v/ and doc/photo editing capabilities,... and about MacOS stability, etc... Well, it all needs a little work still: on the part of new users like me, but also probably on the part of the Apple/Mac people as well. 2nd reason I decided to purchase the MBP - i.e. ability to run Windows (I have not yet tried BootCanp, etc...: still resolving preliminary issues!). I still live in a heavy Win environment at my business - no other way of course!
    Communications issues seem to still prevail: I am hanging out at several VERY HELPFUL forums (AppleDiscussionForum, MacRumorsForums, etc...) and the same issues keep popping up. Im my case, same as all above reported, with a few additional points, as follows:
    1. Xmission errors: seem to be - at least in my case - a constant factor, regardless on how close/far i am from my wireless router. For example, I would be attempting to dwnload an upgrade (large)QT or MacOS file. i am barely into the dowmoad, and I already have several Read/Send errors. By the end of the download, I will have probably about 15 Rcv and 5 Send errors. Never gets quite that bad in my Win machines, I must mention. Anything to do here (I know, there are such things always affecting wireless com). AND, MOST importantly, how that this affect the effectiveness of the upgrade (I spotted same thing with MacOS 10.4.10 and Safari Beta 3 upgrade downloads!). Would it be likely that applying upgrades in such circumstances would screw up the OS??? Could OTOH such errors be automatically "compensated" by re-xmits from the source, and eventually the download would be OK? Because quite frankly, I do NOT know if my important upgrade download was OK to apply to the system, given those errors!!!
    Also same thing with PING errors. Quite frequent when pinging another device on my network.
    2. Quite often, accessing a site will proceed somehow OK, and then things will get stuck twd the end, as if some buffer somewhere gets overloaded??? Of course, as elsewhere reported, same can often happen with com getting stuck right over the "www" part of the URL!
    3. AND, of course, the often reported "NO connection to the Internet", but computer shows good signal level and connection otherwise.
    4. Strangely enough, seems that the Airport Extreme wifi card sort of "warms up the the internet" as one proceeds to start using it. It eventually picks up on a network, and often "improves" its connection over time!
    5. Built in Airport Extreme seems to not exhibit up all immediately surrounding networks. Sensitivity issue?? iStumbler does.
    6. iStumbler permanently posts noise level of 9% regardless of how close to my wireless router/broadband modem I am. Anyone uses iStumbler to monitor network traffic?
    This is getting longuish: I just want to get over all those p*ant issues and get into putting my a/v stuff together!!

    Thanks for just reading all this!. I am not sure it is all fixable (back to the Win "features" terminology, really meaning "bugs"??)

    Thanks, BDaqua. This support forum is quite well stocked: I have been perusing all its nooks and cranies!
    On the www.dslreports.com - All things Mac - forum, I spotted a couple of mentions of the following type of infromation:
    link: »www.hardmac.com/news/2007-07-27/#7039
    - The first TechNote provides information concerning the Airport problem affecting the MBP Santa Rosa (but also other Mac Intel). When used on battery, the wireless connection drops and one can even experience kernel panic. Apple Centers are asked not to exchange affected notebook as this is due to a unidentified bug in the Atheros driver, and should be fixed in the future with a simple Airport system update. So for the moment, unfortunate users are asked to directly power their notebook when using wireless network, or using Ethernet connection when running on battery... in other words, turn your notebook into a desktop

    I am wondering if you and folks on this close-to-Apple forum know anything about this. At least, we could just await remedy instead of messing around endlessly looking for solutions and... pondering as to whether it was a wise thing to purchase an expensive machine which happens to have trouble communicating online. After all, seems that the Mac folks are prone to spend MORE time online uploading/downloading music and videos instead of my being normally doing with the rest of my (Win) computers, i.e. work on customer lists, correspondence, inventories, accounting, data bases, etc....
    So, seems to me we do have a pb and Apple might just save a few $$$ on silly ads and get to work on com instead. if nothing else to avoid the appearance of further - admittedly rather funny - ad-spoofs!
    So back to your further inquiry. I run a wireless network from a HughesNet satellite modem, thru a Linksys WRT54GL wireless router, into some nearby office LANed desktops and point of sale equipment, to another neighbouring facility via wireless bridge, and to my Mac laptop. Distance from the laptop to the router: 50 ft max.
    It all works surprizingly very well: up to 200kbps up and 1000 kbps down (in prime time, 150 up and 600 down). OK, my set up looks complex and incurring LOTS of activity. Actually, online activity is quite minimal and well scheduled - right now I am the only machine on the network online. Otherwise, our office processes online money wiring for customers among other things.
    I'll try your DNS server choice on the Mac settings first. Will report accordingly.
    Thanks for everything!

  • New MBP and 23" ACD problem

    Here's my situation: when I'm at home I use my MBP with an 23" ACD (alu) and keep the MBP screen closed. I used this combo for over 6 months with a 15" MBP 2ghz core duo with absolutely no problems, including taking the MBP with me and using it by itself. I've now replaced my original MBP with the new 15" core2 duo 2.33 glossy. When I boot up in the morning I get 23" ACD flashing to a solid blue and then back to the regular screen about every 4 seconds until the system hangs. After rebooting a couple of times the problem seems to go away.
    I notice there appears to be no screen closed detector on this model like there was on the old MBP. Is this a known bug? Anyone know of a setting etc that I might have to tweak. The new MBP works flawlessly on it's own.

    If you want the MBP internal LCD to shut off while using the external display, just utilize clamshell mode. Plug in an external mouse, keyboard and LCD. Close the lid and put the machine to sleep. Wake the machine by either clicking the mouse or pressing a key on keyboard. This will wake your machine and make the external display your main monitor. You can now open the lid of the MBP to allow the heat to escape.
    Also, right now I leave the lid open while the two
    are connected. I'd like to leave the lid open while
    running the machine to allow for heat venting comming
    off of the keyboard. But even with the brightness
    turned all the way down on the background image, the
    image is still faintly displayed. Do you know how I
    might bring it to a full off mode?

  • New MBP and SSD problems?

    Ok, so I installed an Intel SSD in my new MBP( I am eventually getting the MCE OptiBay to put my regular HDD back in. Here's the thing...Every time I run Boot Camp Assistant, and click to install Windows...it restarts...grey screen, then...flashing folder with question mark. Any ideas?? I've reinstalled OSX on this drive twice now. There seems to be nothing wrong with the drive because OSX installed and runs fine on it. What's going on? Do the new MBP's need a new Boot Camp update, or something?

    Intel 2G SSD? Did you remove the 'mechanical' drive for now?
    There were problems in the past with Intel and with 3rd party SSDs.
    What I would like you to try doing is use the mechanical drive for now for OS X if possible, and disconnect it, and with just the SSD in there (pretty hard I guess???) forget using BCA, and boot Windows 7 DVD and have at it.
    Firmware on Mac's, firmware on Intel SSD...
    I assume holding Option/Alt on startup doesn't work either.
    10.6.6 did a couple things, still no idea why:
    Wants to download drivers to CD (broken);
    Takes longer to boot back to OS X (no idea);
    OS X reports to be running slower than before.
    OS X still lacks TRIM for SSD and OS X suffers (still faster but not what it should be).
    Oh, what version of Windows? you may need Windows 7, and if you bought it from school or electronic download, did you have to burn ISO to disc? That can act or behave in odd ways like this.

  • Problems with the new 2.0 MBPs?

    Hello all,
    First of all, sorry if this has been asked before. I did a quick search and found nothing. I was just wondering if anyone has purchased the new MBPs with the 2.0 GHz and 80 GB hard drive, etc. and has had the same heat and whine issues.
    I spoke with someone in the local Apple Store and he told me that they have had very few/no returns of the new MBPs or that he believes that the new ones have been fixed to some degree. He said one of those two things...I don't exactly remember. Does anyone have a response to this: still have problems; all fixed? Thanks for any input and I apologize if this question was somewhat unclear.

    Thanks a lot guys. The more I hear good news the more convinced I am and extremely excited I am about getting one sooner rather than later! If anyone has some experience with the new models please post...I am sure you will be helping more people decide than just myself. Thanks again.

  • Problem Installing SSD in new MBP

    Hi, I thought this was gonna be easy: installing a new Samsung 128GB SSD in the optical CD/DVD drive of my new 13" MBP. How wrong I was. I thought the H/W bit would be tough, but the S/W got me instead. What I did:
    I left the original HDD (500GB) in the bay & put the Hardwrk's Adapter (& SSD) in the CD/DVD slot - tricky but no real problem.
    Rebooted & installed CCC, used DU to format the SSD as a Single GUID partition with MAC OS (Journaled) format - seemed OK.
    Used CCC to clone Everything on the old drive to the new one, again said OK. Checked the SSD in DU, repaired permissions, etc.
    Reboot, Option key, boot from SSD - here's where things start going wrong. Takes 30s to boot, so cannot be an SSD :-(
    In DU the original HDD is still root "/" mount point, so the reboot failed and it reverted back to the SSD.
    Tried taking out the HDD & boot only from SSD - Mac fails to properly boot. Reset.
    Considered that it might be a CCC problem, or maybe a DU error in formatting, so today:
    Booted from MAC OS X ML Recovery USB stick, redid the partition step, but did not reformat the drive.
    Reinstall ML fresh, was taking too long (c.90m) so I left it running, will check at lunch time...
    Have checked here & on the net, and I do not seem to be doing anything wrong, this usually works for most people - any ideas?
    I could try putting the SSD in the HDD bay, but it should work from the 6MB optical bay in a new MBP?
    Any thoughts on what went wrong or what I could do to fix this would be most appreciated...

    Yes, I thought of that (I was prepared). :-) So I put the new Samsung SSD in my PC to check the firmware version first (as you can't do this on a Mac), which was up-to-date, so nothing to do there. I hope this did not cause a problem with the disc (which I am beginning to suspect - ironic because I chose this disc for Mac compatability), as I set it to GUID partition on the PC ready for speed testing (which I then could not do).
    Update: the OS re-install from the USB key failed, did not even look like a working drive this time (single folder red warning icon on it), and didn't come up properly on the Option Reboot list. Based on the above I went into the Recovery Partition from the HDD & did another reinstall from there. This time I changed the partition type to something else (Mac), then back to GUID single & reformatted it, Mac OS (J). It is busy doing the OS install, c.90m again, so will check tonight, but do not hold out much hope...
    Only option I can see now is a H/W problem with the CD/DVD drive adapter, so will try one last time by removing this & swapping the SSD for the HDD then reinstall OS direct from USB key.
    Should this fail I am all out of options, as the SSD is useless as a 2nd disk or external from the MBP. Only option would be to try to clone the OCZ Vertex III 120GB SSD in the PC onto the Samsung, use this in W7, and swap the OCZ into the Mac? Or just give up & sell it on ebay. :-(
    PS: On reading other posts on (Smasung) SSD replacement for MBP HDD, I should note that I did NOT copy the Recovery partiton from the old HDD to the new drive, figuring the old disc would still be in the machine (as a data volume), so I could save a little space on the SSD itself, I was told this would not be a problem, any thoughts?

  • Wi-Fi Problems on New MBP - Should I return it?

    I got a new MBP about 6 weeks ago. I had an older MBP which I bought two years ago and I never had wi-fi problems. However, the new MBP has given me a constant stream of wi-fi problems.
    Problem #1 - When I move my MBP at home more than 20 feet away from my AEBS it drops the signal altogether. Even when I'm within 20 feet I have to set the network to N-only which means I can't access the wireless using my iPhone.
    Problem #2 - I often connect in Starbucks using T-Mobile. My old MBP never had any issues. However, about 2/3 of the time that I try to connect with the new MBP I have issues. It usually connects at first but then drops the signal after a bit and I can't always reconnect.
    I'm at the point where I'm ready to take the computer back and swap it out for a new one. All the software is up-to-date (running 10.5.6) so I'm not sure what else I can do at this point. This is my last gasp effort before I go through the hassle of trying to get a new machine.
    Any suggestions for things I can try?

    Could you post the output of these commands here?
    Step 1:
    Command 1: ( In Terminal)
    '/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Apple80211.framework/Resources/airport --scan'
    Paste the results here.
    Step 2:
    Now Open console->system.log. Clear the display and Insert Marker.
    Command 2: ( In Terminal)
    'sudo /usr/libexec/airportd -d '
    Now reproduce the wireless issue you see and monitor the system log in Console.
    Wait for a few minutes so you see this issue happening.
    Then, Turn AirPort off and on a couple times to see if this issue still happens.
    Copy paste the system.log here.
    Step 3:
    Next, when you see this issue happening, hold the option key down and click on the AirPort menu icon and get the RSSI and Transmit rate details and post them here.
    Misc things to check:
    Make sure your AP settings are good. Stick to standard 11g/11a modes and disable any enhanced modes if your Access Point supports it.
    Real Player check- Do you by any chance have Real Player running ? It installs a Download Agent in your Login Items and that is known to create havoc. Try uninstalling this app. if you have it. Also make sure there is no instance of Real Player here -- System Prefereces-Accounts- Login Items.

  • FaceTime problems on 3 brand new MBP 13 Retina, Apple has given in

    Hi All,
    After recieving 3 brand new machines (MBP13 Retina) in Dec 2013 and Jan 2014, Apple does not believe they can deliver a proper working brand new machine. They also won't look into the problem and hope i can accept this faulty machine.
    Is that what Apple is turned into? A company that doesn't believe they can fix their own machines? Or do they not care anymore about their customers and their product?
    The person I'm facetiming with cannot hear me when we talk at the same time. My (3 brand new, but all 3 faulty) machines will mute me, so the other party cannot hear me. It is back to the walky talky ages again, 'over'.
    Since I'm a great believer of Apple, I cannot believe they won't fix this problem and just keep on selling and delivering brand new MBP 13 Retina machines that don't work.
    Does nobody at the Apple company care anymore, is there no company pride?

    after a week of working on this problem the last straw was spending  3 hours being helped with this problem by 1mb.com after which time they asked me either to take out a years  support at £129 or pay for help from a better qualified technician! As I only received my IPad last week I am going to send it back tomorrow. why doesn't Apple respond when it is obvious from all the discussions that there is a problem? Considering the price of the iPad I feel thoroughly disillusioned and cheated as well as frustrated by spending so many hours to no avail. this was not the only problem I've encountered but it is the one I've wasted most time trying to resolve./

  • [SOLVED][GRUB]Install problem with the new method

    Hi,
    it is not my first install of Arch Linux but I have a problem with this new kind of installation method, especially with GRUB.
    Here is my hard drives configuration :
    /dev/sda1 -> SSD 120 GB ntfs (windows)
    /dev/sdb1 -> HD 1 TB ext4 (data)
    /dev/sdc :
    /dev/sdc1 -> ext2 /boot
    /dev/sdc2 -> swap
    /dev/sdc3 -> ext4 /
    /dev/sdc5 -> ext4 /home
    During the installation, I installed grub (with grub-install) in /dev/sdc. I assumed it was the correct drive to install it but apparently not, Windows starts automatically and I don't have the grub menu.
    Should I install my system again or is there a way to boot on the livecd and install it ?
    Should I :
    1) mount /dev/sdc3 in /mnt then /dev/sdc1 in /mnt/boot and finally /dev/sdc5 in /mnt/home
    2) pacstrap /mnt grub-bios
    3) arch-chroot
    4) grub-install
    Thank you.

    If you set whatever drive "/dev/sdc" is (brand and model) to boot first in the BIOS, all you need to do is install a bootloader on Arch. You don't even need a separate boot partition. It will use the /boot folder on root partition. Then install os-prober (if you don't already have this installed) and re-generate the .cfg.

    The problem is that I cannot select another hard drive. The only one available for the boot order is the Samsung 830 series (/dev/sda with Windows).
    The other options are the CD drive and removable disk.
    I checked that this morning, maybe I was too tired. I will check again this evening.
    But if I am right and I cannot select my intel SSD (containing my arch setup) for the boot order, would the solution I described work ? I don't see why not but my knowledge are basic in Linux.
    Thank you again for your help.
