Problems starting Crystal Reports Page Server and Report Application Server

Hi,
We have migrated to a new server and I have re-installed our Crystal Reports Server XI R1.
It is being installed on a Windows 2003 SBS Premium Server with MSSQL 2005 Workstation Edition
I have been told that I need to start the following Crystal services after installation.
1) Crystal Reports Page Server
2) Report Application Server
These services simply wont start
When I try to start Crystal Reports Page Server, I get a Visual Studio Just-In-Time Debugger window that says...
An unhandled Win32 exception occured in pageserver.exe [14892], subsequently, another window pops up [svrmgr] that says
"The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion"
Also, when I try to start the Report Application Server, I get another VS JIT debugger window that says
An unhandled win32 exception occurred in crystalras.exe [12748]
I also get the same SvcMgr Window that says..."The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion"

I've seen this asked before and the general repsonse was : don't do it , it's not worth the hassle. Apart from anything else you'll still have to pay the license fees for the Oracle Application server ....

SQL Server and Reporting Services

What is the best practice for replicating the same reports for different clients using different databases in the same SQL Server and Reporting Services?
For example:
Create a single database for each client.
Create a single data source in Reporting services for each client.
Create a folder in Reporting Service for each client, and replicate all the report and point each report to its correct data source.
Is there an easier method for this type of solution.

According to your description, you have reports which has same structure for each user. Now you want to have a folder for each client to keep their reports. And each client should have a single database and single data source. Right?
In Reporting Service, if we need one data source to connect different database dynamically, we may need to use parameter and create dynamic connection string. However, in this scenario, since we need to have a single folder and data source for each
client, so we can just make copies of the whole project. Modify the Connection string in each data source, change the Initial Catalog to be the corresponding database for the client. This can be an easy way to meet the requirement.

Installation of forms reports and oracle application server 10g

Hi,
I have been using client server till now, now planning to move to 10g. Got the developer suite 10g.
Tell me how and where to install forms/reports and Oracle application server... I mean forms reports should be on developer PC then what about application server? should it be on a different dedicated server? or can i have it on database server?
in case, if I install application server on one server and database is on another server then what about forms and reports?
please tell me which is the right option?

One for the database server.
One for the Application Server.
The Application Server is basically used for hosting your forms and reports, so you dont have to place the forms and reports on the developer PC or at any other server.

Setting Isolate Report/Page sections and Isolate Group sections using SDK

Has anyone exported the report to CSV format, by setting Isolate Report/Page sections and Isolate Group sections programmatically. If so, to which object should i set, and what are the methods to do
this ? The CSV exported report contains lots of these sections, along with the actual data, so i am
trying to suppress these other data in the exported file.

RAS SDKs may help you to achive your task.
I would suggest you to see setGroupSectionsOption and setReportSectionsOption of CharacterSeparatedValuesExportFormatOptions class given in RAS APIs.

Your main question was 'chopped' in the title. Please reply in the body of a reply box with the full question and anything you have tried. And no, the long report was not helpful .
If the same website is opening each time you launch a browser (Safari?) hold down the shift key as you launch to prevent previous pages from opening.
Have a look at your settings in Safari > Preferences. Especially General and Privacy.
Reset Safari to remove cookies and other stored data.
System Preferences > General
Have a look at your settings in System Preferences > Security & Privacy.

Problem with Xsan 2.1.1 and Mac Os server 10.5.6

We have a big problem with xsan 2.1.1 and Mac Os server 10.5.6.
- We have one server, is a Open Directory Master, and also is a metadata controller of xsan2. The Volumes of xsan2 are shares via afp, and the clients (moreless 50) connect with server via afp.
- We have some problems, one of them is:
odm fsm [341]: XSAN FSS 'VolDocs [0] ' : Invalid inode lookup: 0x7f80000000007e0 markers 0x0/0x0 nextiel 0x0
This message is always in the log. We stop the volume, and start cvfsck -wv, but dont have anything, how fix it??
- Another problem is with AFP service, suddenly the service stop, and the error is :
mds [58] (error) Server: Mach error queueing checkin to peer manager: (ipc /send) invalid port right.
-What of the meaning of (ipc/send) invalid port right??.
And the last error is:
-com.appelAppleFileServer [347] MDSChannelPeerRequest: (ipc/rcv) timed out.

This server is the open directory Master and metadata controller of xsan2, but we have another server that is open directory replica and metadata controller of xsan2. The fisrt server have too many errors with afp, the service stop and the server is dead, and you must restart via terminal with the command sudo reboot. I dont know what happen, do you help me please?

can i deploy my application build on oracle 10g using developer suite with db10g and I don't use application server?For individual use and development yes u can using oracle Developer suit after starting OC4J
but for client use for more than x user to be able to run reports using parameter forms and other forms application u must use Oracle Application Server

Can we implement page break functionality in application server

Hi,
We are generating a report in apps(AL11) and from there an FTP process bring this report from AL11 to some other legacy system to display this.
Now this legacy sytem is expecting some formating of this from SAP side.
They want a page break after every 24 lines.I'm not sure we can do this in apps(AL11). As per my knowledge we do this page break in SAP output screen only but not in AL11.
If any one have any idea or how can we implement this page break in our application server report.

I think this can be done when u building the data to downloaded to the application server.
Use the below attribute - FORM_FEED from the class - CL_ABAP_CHAR_UTILITIES (SE24).
Call the above attibute to give a Page Break after certain lines......
U have some more attributes whch will be usefull for building the data for application server.

Today I visited some website and read an information that Oracle 9i AS and orion application server are two differece application server.But When I start Oracle 9i AS ,I must use command of "java -jar orion.jar".Are they the same application server? If not ,can you tell me what difference?

I'm sure other people will coreect any errors I am about to make
(if I make any :-), but some time ago, Oracle mad a licensing
agreement with a company called IronFlare, regarding IronFlare's
application server product called OrionServer. After that, Oracle
came out with a new product -- Oracle Containers for Java (OC4J)
-- which is based on OrionServer. In the first version (that had
the version number 1.0.2.2), the application server basically came
bundled in the "orion.jar" file, so in order to start up the application
server, you used a command like:
java -jar orion.jar
However, the next version of OC4J (with version number 9.0.2.0.0
[go figure ;-]), contained the "oc4j.jar" file (which replaced
the "orion.jar" file).
So I would say that the first version of OC4J was almost identical
to OrionServer. But I think subsequent versions are becoming more
and more different. Remember that at the same time, OrionServer
is also still being developed. I think the first version of OC4J
was based on version 1.5.2 of OrionServer. The next version of
OrionServer (that should be released soon) is version 1.6.0.
I have no idea how similar the latest version of OrionServer is
to the latest version of OC4J. But if Oracle's history is any
guide, then I would say that, eventually, OC4J and OrionServer
will have very little similarity between them. Just look at the
paths that Oracle's JDeveloper has taken in comparison with Borland's
JBuilder. Originally, JDeveloper was based on JBuilder. Today,
they are two completely different products.

Our basic recommendation is to have 20 tasks per MT Server. (An MT (Multi-Threaded) Server is equivalent to an operating system process.)
Consider the projected number of concurrent users for the application in the design phase of the implementation. Even though there may be a large number of potential users, a smaller number will be logged in at any given time. For purposes of the following discussion, assume that there are 100-200 concurrent users.
There are many variables to consider when tuning an Object Manager. This tuning should be reviewed with Siebel Expert Services as part of the Production Readiness review. Here are some variables to consider.
The number of concurrent users.
The length of time each user spends on the system during a session.
Session timeout.
Use of scripts.
Complexity of the application.
High usage times. (80% of users are online from 11:00 to 3:00)
The settings used for this Siebel Object Manager component are as follows:
Maximum Tasks = 300
Maximum MT Servers = 15
Minimum MT Servers = 5
Maximum Tasks represents the total number of concurrent users. Since the anticipated number of concurrent users is between 100-200 the setting has been set to allow for some extra breathing room. This is important to allow for sessions that do not log out properly and therefore hang around until the session timeout is reached. Session timeout can be set in the Webserver and is usually defaulted to 20 minutes.
Maximum MT Servers is the total number of processes that can be run for this component. It is also used to calculate how many tasks can be run on each process. The calculation is as follows:
Maximum Tasks / Maximum MT Servers = Number of tasks per MT Server
300 / 15 = 20
As mentioned before, our basic recommendation is that the ratio of Maximum Tasks to Maximum MT Servers be 20. An extensively configured or scripted application may require a lower ratio.
Minimum MT Servers is only used when the Siebel Server or the Component is started. This determines how many processes to startup for this component. The only benefit that this provides is that it reduces the initialization time of the process when a new MT Server is needed. In this example, 5 MT Servers were used because 100 users are anticipated. This way the system can handle 100 concurrent users before having to startup a new process.

Are JDev9i UIX and BC4J application server dependent?

If I use JDeveloper9i to build an application using UIX XML + BC4J + Java, then can this be deployed on IBM Websphere, Web Logic, Oracle 9iAS, etc...?

BC4J and UIX are not tied to any application server. They are "just" a collection of jar files that you can deploy to any application server.

Calendar server and address book server login fails with outlook connector

I have installed Java Communication Suite 5 according to the doc http://blogs.sun.com/factotum/resource/comms5-install-linux.html.
When i deploy the connector i get the pop ups saying "Server:servername:3080
Error:service not available" also
"Server:servername:80/uwc"
Error:service not available"
asking to login to calendar server and address book server.Clicking "OK" allows install.
In outlook i can send and receive mails but not the meeting requests.It gives the error "login to calendar server" when i create a meeting request.
Please let me know what i have to do to get rid of the error.The username and passwd entered is correct.

I would check through the outlook connector deployment configuration to verify that you have inserted valid information into all of the host & port fields - perhaps check the .ini file that is created to see if it has "Server" and "servername" listed.

Replication between Oracle Server and MS SQL Server

Hello,
Does anybody know of a well known or reliable software that can do data replication between Oracle Server and Microsoft SQL server.
I suppose I can write my own version using Heterogenous Services in Oracle but I would like to know if such an automated replication between Oracle and SQL is available commercially.
