Problems Switching from Prepared to Supervised in Apple Configurator

Hi all,
I am at a school managing a cart of iPads.  I was using Configurator just to Prepare them and push out a profile and apps.  I didn't use Supervise, because I wanted to be able to plug them in to other computers to transfer video.  Some update to Configurator came out and I can no longer use Prepare to install paid apps.  Frustrating, but okay.
Next I turned on Supervise so I can install paid apps again.  Apparently this requires erasing the iPad.  Okay, fine.  iPads were erased and set to Supervise, but I have no redeem codes left!  I can still see that the redeem codes are in Configurator, and are matched up to the iPad serial numbers, but I can't check the box to install them.  This is different from the problem of having lost the Configurator information described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5194
Can someone explain how I can use my existing match of serial numbers and redeem codes to install apps?
OS 10.7.5
Configurator 1.2.1

Hey Neil,
Unfortunately, iPads that are Supervised with Apple Configurator can only transfer files/photos via USB to the computer that it was supervised by. We ran into the same thing in our school district. If you want to get videos or photos in any other way you will need to go wirelessly.
We've been using Dropbox to transfer photos and videos from iPads and its been working great. The Dropbox app has a very cool auto-upload process that will automatically upload photos and videos from the iPad Camera Roll to Dropbox. Once you log in to the Dropbox app on the iPad with your account, click on the Photos icon in the lower left corner of the screen (second one from the left). Then select "Enable Camera Upload" and "Only Wi-Fi." The upload process will begin for all existing photos and videos in the Camera Roll. From now on, all future photos and videos taken by the iPad will automatically upload to the Dropbox folder.
If each student has a Dropbox account, they can "share" their photos folder with the teacher so that when the teacher logs in to his/her account he/she will see all of the students' videos and photos.
Hope this helps!

    I have set up our school ipads to be supervised by Apple Configurator and am using VPP to buy apps. I did this initially as our school internet connection was stopping us from being able to update the IOS and our County was offering a managed system, Lightspeed, which took control of every device in school which proved very expensive.  I now find the supervised ipads do not allow the pupils to download photos or movies etc. As we frequently use the ipads as cameras this is causing us a problem. We have a school imac that I use to keep the devices updated with Apple Configurator (not connected to our network), and this doesn't seem to offer any solution to download them either.  I was told there was a setting in Apple Configurator to allow other computers to download from supervised devices, but I can't see it anywhere.  I am very new to this so any advice or help would be greatly appreciated please.

    I assume you are wanting to take the photos and movies off the iPads?
    Connect the iPad to a Apple computer. Open "Image Capture". Any photos or video can me imported to the desktop or other location on your computer.
    I had this same problem last year and as we have no wifi I asked lots of people at Apple what I could do - no one provided this answer (a little unbelievable!). If you have wifi using something like dropbox would be an easier solution.
    Hope this helps

  • Problems Switching from iPhone to Samsung Galaxy S4

    I switched from an iPhone to a Samsung. Why do people with iPhones continue to have problems texting me. They tried deleting my iMessage streams and re-entered my phone as a mobile. They still get error messages. It's been a week since I got the Samsung.
    By the way, I have deactivated my iphone number on the Apple ID website.
    ITH

    Unfortunately I have turned off iMessage from my iPhone and have called in to deregister. It's been almost 24 hours and it's still not working correctly. The HUGE issue is that I've basically been told "it will eventually start working". Well, I didnt pay you have the money and tell you I'd send the rest when it started working. You are a huge company dealing with another huge company. I PAID THE MONEY AND YOU TOOK IT BUT THE PHONE IS NOT WORKING THE WAY IT IS SUPPOSED TO. If you cant make a device work, you should not be selling them with the assumption that you can use it when you pay right then. There are so many forums and threads about this problem but yet nobody mentioned it at the verizon store. I will not be a customer by this evening is this doesn't resolve. This is **** poor business and terrible communication about switching devices. The largest network is doing a great job of pushing me back to AT&T. Rediculous!!

  • How can I import photos from iPod that is supervised with Apple Configurator?

    I have configured a set of iPod Touches (and iPads) with Apple Configurator. User can take photos. But when the iPods are attached to a PC or Mac (including the Mac they were configured on), no pictures are visible or downloadable. The photos are visible in the Photos app on the iPod. What's happening?

    Anthony,
    I have found a workaround that just worked for me with iPads,
    Connect the iPad to the computer that supervises it, take screen shots (home key and off key pressed together) of the photos as they are displayed in Photos on your iPad and then they will be seen when you launch iPhoto on the host computer.
    It takes some time, but may be worth it, I just took screen shots of about 70 photos and they are now in iPhoto so I can export them now and use them.
    It took me 15 minutes.
    Hope this helps, Darryl

  • Switching from windows based system to Apple Mac

    I'm switching from windows to mac before that i would like to know which Professional SLR Camera Brands are compatible with mac.

    The link Kappy posted should give you peace of mind. I can tell you from personal experience that both the Canon EOS 550D and the Nikon D90 work seamlessly with OS X (10.6.4).
    You can use iPhoto, Image Capture or Adobe Bridge CS4 to import and organise your photos. I would definitely recommend Bridge over the others, but Image Capture (pre-installed on all versions of OS X) is surprisingly good and offers a range of features.
    Enjoy your shiny new Mac!

  • Unsupervised-- supervised on apple configurator

    I currently have 30 iPads for my school but started out with only 8.  Back then I decided to give each iPad an individual Apple ID (owned by the school) and I was manually adding apps. Our number has grown and teachers are starting to explore new apps, so I started using the Apple Configurator to mass install free apps (unsupervised).  Now I run into the problem where the free apps need to be updated and its my personal Apple ID that was used for the configurator.  My principal is seriously considering buying a mac so the school can use the configurator (rather than myself on my personal macbook) but how do switch all the iPads to supervised use without having to reload all the purchased apps?  I'm also a little scared to put my VPP codes into the Apple Configurator because I've had problems with redemption codes already.  Any advice??

    Hi claes.jacobsson,
    Unfortunately, yes... when you supervise a device you are forced to update the iOS to the latest version.
    Hope this answers your question.

  • Explain to Me: Supervision within Apple Configurator

    I do not fully understand the "Supervise" aspect of Apple Configurator.
    Does supervising a device give you Over the Air capabilities you do not have without supervision? Can you then push apps to supervised devices accross the country that you could not otherwise do without supervision?
    The Apple Configurator Manual reads:
    "Set Supervision to Off if you want to configure a device once with Apple Configurator. Set Supervision to On if you intend to maintain control of a device on an ongoing basis by reapplying a configuration regularly."
    What does it mean by "intend to maintain control of a device on an ongoing basis"? I plan on centrally configuring many iPads and shipping accross the country. I want to have the ability to track them and it would be nice if I could have them install apps from afar if need be...
    But  I also read "when you configure a supervised device, you can't supervise it or sync it with any other computer running Apple Configurator or iTunes."
    Does this mean that if I supervise a device and send it thousands of miles away to a teacher only to discover it is missing a few apps, the teacher will not be able to download the necesary apps?

    Thank you very much. So far I've been asking about MDM in the context of a prolonged program. However, right now I am also confronted with a short term problem that I could really use your knowledge for:
    I deployed 28 iPads yesterday to one location. We configured them manually and only installed 3 apps on each one, all of which were free. We did not use VPP or Apple Configurator with it, because we do not have a mac yet and are only at the beginning steps of the program.
    However, those 28 iPads will now need to have potentially 300+ apps on them, and we need to send them redemption codes via the VPP.
    Sending them URLs via email and requiring them to click each one would be devastatingly burdensome.
    Is it possible for me to create a meraki account on my PC, have my teacher "enable Systems Manager on his devices" allowing him to "securely connect to Meraki’s cloud, enabling me to deploy applications."? In other words, will Meraki be able to use VPP codes and send entire packages of apps to all 28 devices without Apple Configurator? What would the teacher have to do on his end on his iPads?

  • IOS version on supervised devices (Apple Configurator)

    When preparing supervised devices in Apple Configurator, are we forced to install the latest iOS on our devices? (The "When update is available" option is auto-selected and can not be changed)

    Hi claes.jacobsson,
    Unfortunately, yes... when you supervise a device you are forced to update the iOS to the latest version.

  • Problems moving from 2 independent drives to RAID1 configuration

    Hi: My NAS200 has been running successfully configured as two independent drives: Public Disk 1/ and Public Disk 2/. I will refer to these as PD1 and PD2. I mostly use PD1 and have been using PD2 to make occasional backups of PD1 (I didn't like the idea of running in mirrored Raid1 mode based on a prior experience). Today I was trying to clone the contents of PD1 and decided to try turning on the RAID1 function, thinking it would make an exact duplicate of PD1 on PD2. My plan was to then break up the RAID mirror again and end up with two identical copies of PD1. However, after the RAID mirroring finished (took about 6 hours), I can no longer see PD1 or PD2 on the mirrored disks, nor Public Disk (PD) for that matter. Can anyone tell me what has happened and how I might recover from it? I have access to a SATA-USB converter and can use it to mount each individual disk onto either a linux or Windows system (via ext2ifs software). When I do this (on Windows), I see that there are three partitions on the disk, and I can name them with ext2ifs, but I can't see any of the contents. I'm currently running DiskInternals Linux Recovery 2.7 on Windows and it is scanning the disk for lost files. It seems to be finding data, but is running very slowly (20 minutes for 3%). Any leads appreciated. Thanks in advance! Maurice Lampell
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    The file system is XFS if you have the NAS200 configured for journaled file system, or ext2 if you are using unjournaled file system. ext2ifs can read (and write?) ext2 under Windows but XFS is not supported by any Windows software that I'm aware of.
    The RAID configuration is independent from the journaled vs non-journaled configuration: you can have journaled non-raid, journaled raid, non-journaled non-raid and non-journaled raid. RAID configurations are implemented using mdadm.
    You can download a SystemRescueCD image from the link in my signature to access the files on the disks from a PC. You burn that image to a CD and boot from it. SystemRescueCD understands SATA disks connected via a USB-SATA dongle, you just need to be able to boot from a CD-ROM drive which is something that all PCs less than about 10 years old can do. SystemRescueCD supports all the necessary file systems and I believe it automatically tries to mount any RAID-formatted disks. The partitions on the hard disk are (1) your data, (2) configuration files and (3) swap. So if you want to recover files, you can ignore the second and third partitions.
    I don't think the NAS can convert the configuration from separate disks to RAID without reformatting, so the files that were there in separate-disk mode are propbably lost. You may need another tool to recover the files.
    I don't know why your Public Disk shares don't show up, unless you made a change to the configuration so that the shares are hidden from your user name. If you have the web GUI configured to hide the share from guest logins, then maybe you're logged in as guest because you have "change failed logins to guest logins" enabled; you should disable this option.
    Your plan of mirroring the disks and then breaking the mirror to put one of the drives away as backup is not a good one, IMHO (and by the way, you really shouldn't remove the drive while the NAS is running). When the NAS loses a drive from the RAID, it will try to rebuild the RAID as soon as you restart with a second drive installed, and it will give the existing drive priority over the older one, so instead of restoring a backup after you lose your files, it will overwrite the backup with the other drive's data so you lose the lost files from the backup too. Also, rebuilding a mirror takes extremely long on the NAS200. It's better to use Separate Disks and run a scheduled backup from one disk to the other; if you delete a file by accident you only have to retrieve that one lost file which takes seconds instead of hours.

    Frequent NAS200 Answers:
    1. DISABLE the "convert failed logins to guest logins" option to fix permission problems.
    2. NEVER insert or remove hard disks while the power is on. NAS200 doesn't support hot swapping.
    3. ALWAYS use the power button to turn the NAS200 off, don't just unplug it.
    4. Don't trust RAID. Make BACKUPS!
    5. To ACCESS the disks directly, you will need ext2 and/or XFS file systems. I recommend using SystemRescueCD.
    6. Disks will get HOT with standard fan, use "green" disks or consider replacing the fan.
    7. FTP server is insecure and doesn't work behind a NAT router. Use my firmware and SCP instead.
    8. MY FIRMWARE supports SSH shell prompt and SCP for secure file access, and allows running other software.

  • How can I deploy an eBook for a device supervised by Apple Configurator?

    I am supervising 10 iPads using Apple Configurator within the Volume Purchase Programme. That works fine with buying apps. Now we want to buy an eBook to have it on all iPads. Apple Configurator shows no way to add eBooks to the iBook app.
    Any idea how that might work?

  • Problems switching from personal domain to .mac

    I'm wanting to move a site from my personal domain to .mac. However, when I attempt to publish the site it automatically attempts to publish to my personal domain. How can I change the settings to publish to .mac?
    I attempted to solve this problem by creating a "new" site, but it still tries to publish to the personal domain rather than .mac.

    I've done it. I just copied my data to the Mac and also copied the library files:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93732
    This preserved all my ratings and playlists, etc.
    I think there was a little bit of magic to get iTunes to find where all the music was now stored. It wasn't that difficult though. Plus only do this before you delete all your stuff on the Windows machine.

  • Problems switching from MobileMe to iCloud

    I had a MobileMe account and now I need to switch to iCloud. I want to keep the prefix from my MobileMe email account. When I start the iCloud process and try to enter my prefix it claims it is already taken. And I think it is taken by me
    I want to keep the rail prefix, how do I do this?

    MobileMe closed a year ago and if you did not migrate to iCloud before the end of August last year you can no longer do so. This means your @me.com address is no longer active.
    It's not clear whether you can open an iCloud with the same prefix, but you won't be able to get an @me.com address. Go to System Preferences>iCloud (Lioni 10.7.2 or higher required) and sign in with your @me.com address. As this is an Apple ID (even though it's not functioning) you may be able to do so and get an @icloud.com address, though it's possible you may have to choose one with different prefix. If it won't accept the @me.com address as an ID you will have to get another Apple ID and try with that.
    If you do use the @me.com address as an ID you need to make sure you have an alternate contact address since if Apple try to contact you at it, it won't work.

  • Problem switching from AP-specific to Group-specific VLAN mapping

    Hello.
    Some days ago, I updated our 5508 WLC to software version 7.5.102.0.
    With that version, it should be possible to have a VLAN mapping specific for a Flexconnect group that is set within Flexconnect Group settings.
    I did that for all my Flexconnect groups and it works fine with new access point.
    For existing access point, which already have an AP-specific VLAN mapping, it is not possible to switch to Group-specific.
    When I mark the WLAN in Flexconnect setting of the AP and select "Remove AP specific", I get the error message "Request failed: Vlan is not enabled on this flexconnect".
    I wonder what the problem could be, because for newly installed access points, it works fine. Did I miss some settings?
    Regards,
    Sven Lindeke

    Thanks for the fast reply.

  • Problem switching from year to year-1

    Hi there =),
    I've coded some little thing, that shows the momentary weekofyear and the monday and friday in that week (dd.MM.yyyy). There're also 2 links who let the
    weekofyear go -1 or +1 and then change the monday and friday automatically.
    My problem is, that I do need to go to the last year sometimes. So I click the "-1"-link and the w.o.y. goes 20, 19, .... 3, 2, 1, 0, -1, -2, -3, ...
    First, in reallity there's no week number 0 or -1 or -2...So I need to fix this, too
    So I need to set the week to 52 or 53 if it less than 1. But how do I manage this?
    Here is some code:
    // This code is to change the w.o.y., if the parameter kw_change is 1 or -1:
    Calendar calendar = Calendar.getInstance(Locale.GERMANY);
    if ((request.getParameter("kw_change"))!= null)
         switch (Integer.valueOf(request.getParameter("kw_change")))
              case -1:
                   session.setAttribute("kw", new Integer(((Integer)(session.getAttribute("kw"))).intValue() -1) );
              break;
              case 1:
                   session.setAttribute("kw", new Integer(((Integer)(session.getAttribute("kw"))).intValue() +1) );
              break;
    Integer weekOfYear = (Integer) session.getAttribute("kw");
    if ((session.getAttribute("currCalendar")) != null)
         calendar = (Calendar) session.getAttribute("currCalendar");
    calendar.set(Calendar.WEEK_OF_YEAR,weekOfYear);
    calendar.set(Calendar.DAY_OF_WEEK,Calendar.MONDAY);
    SimpleDateFormat sdf = new SimpleDateFormat();
    sdf.applyPattern("dd.MM.yyyy");
    session.setAttribute("currCalendar", calendar);Times before this code, this code sets the kw (calendar-week in german) to the current kw:
    Integer kw = new Integer(calendar.get(Calendar.WEEK_OF_YEAR));
    session.setAttribute( "kw", kw);I really have no good idea to solve this. So if there are any suggestions, I'm very thankful. I don't necessary need a complete solution. I'm just out of ideas >.<.
    Best regards
    X--spYro--X

    case -1:
                   session.setAttribute("kw", new Integer(((Integer)(session.getAttribute("kw"))).intValue() -1) );
         break;replace this code with the following
    case -1:
           session.setAttribute("kw", new Integer(( ((Integer)(session.getAttribute("kw"))).intValue() == 1)?53:((Integer)(session.getAttribute("kw"))).intValue()-1 );
    break;here i am assuming that after week 1, it'll goto week 53.
    for case 1 you can implement the similar logic.
    i hope this is helpful

  • Mobile performance decrease! - Severe problems switching from PFI to AIR 2.6

    Hello all,
    I am currently developing a rather popular title for the iPhone . It is my first ever attempt at creating something for the Mobile Market.
    I started using Flash CS5 and the packager that comes with it. I optimized my game so that it ran perfectly well on 30FPS in every aspect on the iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS.
    I was really excited when I read about the new features and supports in Flash CS5.5 so I purchased Flash CS5.5 to move all my production to it.
    However I noticed a severe decrease in performance as I tested publishing my game in Flash CS5.5 (Air for iOS). I understand that the new "packager" does things differently and so I have also been doing things accordingly but it still acts very instable. For instance, I have a scene with a background cached as bitmap and two short animated MC's that loops (these MC's are not cached or using filters or blending) . So I have three elements but still the FPS drops to around 3-5 FPS even though it is set to 30. On the next scene I have four elements, a background cached as bitmap and three of the same short animated MC's that loops and this works flawlessly. The backgrounds themselves is equal when it comes to what it contains. I practically have nothing on the screen and it will drop FPS!
    I have discovered that when MC's containing FBF animation (like blood splatter or water splash) plays on the scene it dramaticly decreases performance. I tried Modify -> shape -> optimize... and optimized those FBF animations with 83 % but no improvement in performance were seen. When I made every frame of the blood splatter animation into an MC and exported them all as bitmaps it worked without problems but this cannot be done through the whole game and especially not in the cutscenes.
    I have read and researched my eyes out and pulling my hair til baldness so now I turn to the forums for help.
    If anyone out there would be willing to help I would be extremely gratefull!
    Thank you,
    Daani

    Hello Colin!
    Thank you for such a great and fast response! I needed some basic knowledge about how rendering in Flash actually works. Thanks!
    I will definetly try cacheasbitmapmatrix = new Matrix()  immediately even though I actually found a wierd solution for my FPS problem that I have described below.
    I discovered that most of the time the drop in FPS would only occur when textfields would be on the stage. I saw that they didn't embed anything (which means that they embedded all) and perhaps this was the problem that caused the whole doc to drop in FPS. Since I have no need to edit the text any longer I simply broke them appart until no text field existed, only vector graphics. As soon as I tested this new version on my iPhone everything is top performance. Why would something that feels so small as a text field cause the whole app to malfunction?
    Another problem in my game is that I have some quite intense animation sequences where blood splatter occurs within an MC. This scene is very laggy when beeing played. I tried a lot of different things and I discovered that if I put that sequence (which exist within an MC) hidden on screen (with a loading image above) before the actual sequence is going to be played it's as if Flash stored that sequence and when it's actually going to be played for the viewer it plays without any drop in FPS at all. I'm no optimizing expert as I have never worked with really limited performance devices. How would you "load" these sequences before they appear on the screen?
    And wow! That Air 2.7 seems like something groundbreaking! Can't wait for it to hit the market!
    Again, thanks for your support Colin. Massive appreciation from this side!:)
    Peace,
    Dan
