Problems synching Podcasts to my Ipod

When I start my laptop and plug in my ipod it will update my podcasts and synch. It will also bring up photoshop on my laptop. Once the first synch is done I cannot seem to synch again. In other words if during the day a podcast in itunes is updated and I try to manually update the ipod it will not synch. It never brings up photoshop aside from the first synch of the day. It must have a correlation.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

  • Problem Synching Podcasts of type Quicktime

I see others have been having problems synching podcasts as well. I pulled these podcasts from the iTunes store (free) and am surprised that they won't synch. (Tekzilla - episode "Windows Thumbnail Generator") I understand that some aren't created for iPods but **aren't all the ones at the iTunes store expected to work on the iPod??** They are working within iTunes, but I'd like them on the iPod with out have to do that lengthy conversion.
I have tried running the diagnostics and I get the message that "one or more of the synch tests has failed", when I click on help it takes me to a useless web page showing me the exact error I got, but not how to fix it. **Has anyone else had this error message?** I just set this up today, after dloading all the latest software. I have been able to synch my music and MP4 podcasts.
    Cheers.

I understand that some aren't created for iPods but *aren't all the ones at the iTunes store expected to work on the iPod??*
It seems not... Radiohead's In Rainbows podcasts for example won't sync without conversion. Perhaps the classic accepts a smaller subset of video formats than earlier iPods or the podcasting guidelines don't specify exactly which sub-formats can be used. Like you I'm surprised to find podcasts that won't sync but the responsibility here is with the publisher rather than the iTunes store.

  • Problems synching podcasts from library to iPod

suddenly two of my fave podcasts will not sync from my library, where they appear normally, to my 30GB video iPod. has anyone else had this problem? i have no idea why this has started to happen nor what on earth to do about it and would really appreciate any help. also, since the latest itunes update i haven't been able to view my photo library on the iPod, i just get the slide show settings screen and nothing else!!

Are you sure that your syncing settings are properly set?
If you connect your iPod to your computer, and click on it in the Source List in iTunes, go to the "Podcasts" tab.
What are your current settings in this area?

  • Problem synching calendar to 5gen iPod nano (Vista Home Premium SP2)

My iPod 5gen nano will not sync my Outlook 2010 calendar, and thus my To Do Lists, which I use for college. I am using iTunes 10.1.0.54 on Vista SP2, I get error messages on some occasions, (one stating something about logging in or out of Windows?) and crashes on others. I really need my calendar to sync.

You posted to the wrong area of discussions. This is the 5th Generation iPod group (the video full sized iPods that were released previous to the "Classic" models). If you are asking a Nano question, you want to post to this area...

trying to sync voice memo on iPod Touch 4g to macbook pro.  manual sez: 4.    Select the "include voice memos" checkbox and click apply.  BUT that checkbox is grayed out because i don't have (and don't want) the 'sync music" box checked.   workaround?

I have been regularly receiving video tutorials from Addicted 2 Salsa and synching these to my iPod but recently I have been unable to do so. I overcame this problem in the past by making an ipod version or loading them on to iMovie and then sharing them but this method no longer works. THere is no problem viewing them on my computer and everything else synchs okay to the iPod so what is going on and how can I overcome this problem?

Double check to make sure podcasts are configured to sync to your device from under the iPod's Podcast configuration tab.
To access the Podcasts tab for your iPod, plug your iPod in and click on it from under theDevices section in the left hand pane of iTunes.  This will bring you to the Summary tab. Along the top you should see a Podcasts tab, so go ahead and click on it.  Here you can configure how and what podcasts sync to your iPod.
If you do make any changes to do this tab, make sure to hit the Apply button in the lower right hand corner to apply the update changes to your device.
Otherwise, are you getting any error messages when you sync your iPod Classic with iTunes?

  • Ipod nano 7th gen problems synching

    hello,
for the past 2 days, I have been battling an ipod nano synching issue. This ipod has been working flawlessly for the past year. And then all of the sudden, without warning, I tried to add additional music and I could not. I cannot remember the exact syntax of the error but it had something to do with the ipod not being recognized and required a restore to factory.
I have corrected the first issue where the ipod was not recognized and had to be factory restored. Each time I restored, it would not be recognized by itunes.
I installed itunes on another pc and the same ipod synched and reconnected just fine, pointing back to the itunes install on my primary machine.
I resolved the first issue on my primary machine by following ht1923.
However, now the problem I see is that even though the ipod connects successfully , to my primary machine , when I synch and add music, no music shows up on the ipod even though itunes says synch successful. The ipod says "no music".
    ipod serial number: C8NJRFX4F0GV
my primary pc is an HP Elitebook, running windows 7 professional 64 bit version
All itunes software completed removed and reinstalled clean.
    Thank you

I would like to chime in that I've confirmed this as a reproducible bug on my iPod Nano 7th generation. I have an iTunes library with an offending compilation, and to avoid any possible tagging incompatability, I've converted the files to AAC with clean tags containing the album, artist, title, and track number. The album artist is "Various Artists" and I've checked off the "Part of a compilation" box for each track in my library.
These tracks all show their correct artists when I sync this library to my iPhone. However, when I sync the exact same tracks to my iPod Nano 7th Gen, it choose a random artist from amongst all the artists within the compilation and shows that artist name on *every* track.
iPod Nano 7th Gen has a bug in the firmware for displaying artists correctly when they are part of a compilation. The OP is likely doing nothing wrong. Apple needs to issue new firmware. Alternatively, I cannot think of any decent workaround short of splitting off each track of the compilation into a separate album, which, would be a huge pain and likely impractical for most people.

  • My Iphone and Ipad wouldn't appear in itunes when i connect them to my mac. I have already upgraded my itunes to the latest version. I have no problem synching my ipod though. Could it be because I am using an older mac? (Mac OS X version 10.4.11)?

Neither my iphone nor my ipad would appear in itunes when i connect them to my mac. I have already upgraded my itunes to the latest version. I have no problem synching my ipod to itunes using the same mac though. Could it be because I am using an older mac? (Mac OS X version 10.4.11)?

You need to be using a Mac OS X version at least as new as the one given in the device's original system requirements.

  • Problem loading Ellen Podcast with 5G ipod

I have a thirty gig Ipod video (the first release) and itunes says i cannot sync the ellen podcast because my ipod is not compatiable... What is the deal???

I have the same problem with my fifth generation 80 GB iPod. I called Apple and they said that they cannot help with any specific podcasts because they are not responsible for how the podcasts are made. I expressed my surprise with this statement as the Ellen show is a featured show in the Apple Store Podcast section, but it does make sense. They can't be responsible for every podcast in their directory.
You could try contacting the Ellen show and letting them know. I'm sure they'd fix it if they knew it was affecting a lot of people.

  • Complex problems synching with Tiger 1.4.3 upgrade

After finally getting the courage to upgrade to Tiger on my iMac G4, I do have problems synching.
I have a Zire 21 Palm. Nothing worked so I upgraded the Palm Desktop Software to 4.2.1 as required. Went to HotSync Conduit settings and enabled HotSynch for this Palm device. Opened iSynch, went through the enable Palm synching. Get the message to finish setting up your Palm OS device you need to select the HotSynch conduit in HotSynch Manager. (But I thought I already did that.) Anyway, I press the hot button, after a while it says connecting to Palm device, but the job never stops. I have to cancel, and no data has been transferred.
I ALSO have an iPod. I explore this, I plug the iPod in after upgrading the iPod software as suggested. I set the contacts and calendars panel to synchronize (and to update podcasts, too), Now iTunes keeps telling me it's updating my calendar and contact information. It tells me this for over an hour. I have to go some where, I cancel, when I come back, it goes back to its labor. I don't think it should take this long.
I also think the .Mac synching isn't working quite right, but I'll settle for a solution to the other problems.
Bottom line, I still have no way to carry my calendar around with me. Help is needed.

Ok, here is a copy of the iSynch log. I had never looked at this before.

You suggest reconfigure iSync so that calendars and tasks are turned off - and contacts are turned on - without making any other configuration changes
I went in and changed all other conduits in the Hotsync Manager to Do Nothing EXCEPT FOR iSync conduit, which is enabled.
Then I unchecked the Calendars and checked Contacts on the Zire 21 menu on the iSync panel. I pressed the hot button on the Zire at 9:23 am. It said “Connecting Jim Andris” (which is my user id) Then it switched to just Connecting… It is just spinning with about a tenth of the bar in blue.
    Later (10:15 am)

  • Deleted podcasts reappearing on ipod

I manage the content of my ipod manually. After I upload a podcast to the ipod, I delete it from iTunes. Then, after I have listened to the podcast on the ipod, I delete it with the Delete button on the ipod. This was working for me perfectly.
Now, since around the time I upgraded ipod firmware to 3.0 (and 3.1 later), it stopped working: the podcasts I deleted from the ipod are reappearing in the podcast list next time after I upload content to the ipod. The files are not there physically (when I click on them, they don't play), they just show as unplayed podcasts in the list. The only way to stop them from reappearing is to delete them from the ipod through iTunes, but that defeats the purpose of having the Delete button on the ipod.
I've looked through the forums and I've seen a few posts with similar problems, but the suggestions were to check smart lists for podcasts. I checked all my smart lists, and all of them have the "podcast=false" condition.
Does anybody know why this is happening, or how to fix it?
I have another question that might or might not be relevant here. When I drag and drop content onto ipod, in iTunes I see a message saying "updating" and then "Synching ipod." Is iTunes supposed to be synching with ipod if I manage my content manually?
    Thanks for your help.

hmm. i know that for a while podcasts deleted on the ipod sometimes returned in this 'ghost' fashion when the ipod was powered off (rather than just put to sleep), but as far as i can tell this was fixed a few updates ago.
your form of the problem seems to be a new one however. are they removed when you sync?
manual management still involves syncing, that is how it makes the changes.

  • Podcast Synchronization of Ipod and Hard Drive

    Hi,
I'm fairly new to the whole iTunes/iPod thingy, so this question might sound stupid, but what I wanna do is the following:
I've downloaded various podcast episodes of different podcasts to my hard drive. For some podcasts, I want to begin with the first episode and catch up with everything, and so I also downloaded those.
Now, my iPod has only limited memory space left, so I want to have the first episodes on my iPods to listen to them, and then gradually replace them with the next expisodes.
However, the synchronize option doesn't work here at all (or I'm too stupid to use it). And neither do I want to manually put the episodes on my iPod because this would be rather time-consuming.
First, I unticked the more recent episodes (those I don't want to listen to right now) in iTunes on my harddrive and figured, if I then click on sychronize (all), it would transfer all selected episodes. Well, that didn't work. It still put the deselected episodes on my iPod. Then I thought I would select certain podcasts and only synchronize those, but it still put all the deselected episodes for these podcasts on my iPod.
The options like "sychronize newest episodes" and similar ones don't work either.
So, for me, it would appear to be the very simplest solution to have a sychronize option like "synchronize all selected episodes" in the menu but no, there is none like this (I'm using iTunes 7). I have to admit I've only been introduced to the whole Apple / iTunes thingy because I got an iPod as a present and I have already found way too many things that are way too complicated and not practical, so this just seems to be another one of these issues. I would love if someone could prove me wrong and teach me how to accomplish what I described above without having to manually move around episodes every other day.
And another rather confusing thing: initially, I had set iTunes to download the latest episode for a given podcast after a refresh. Then, when I realized I wanted to start with the earlier episodes and save some memory space, I set it so it would do nothing. Now, however, it really does nothing. It doesn't even display when a new episode is available. For example, I had the latest episode of an extensive podcast series and deleted it in my iTunes because it took a lot of memory space. But now I don't even see this episode any longer. I'm sorry, I'm not good at describing problems but what I want is, I want to see a list of all available episodes that will be updated regularly but I don't want the latest episodes to be downloaded automatically.. how in the world can I do that?
Sorry for the long post, I'm just getting a bit frustrated after having spent half a day on trying to figure these seemingly simple issues out
Thanks a lot for any help!
iPod Nano   Windows XP   iTunes 7

You can delete songs from your iTunes/computer hard drive after transferring them to the iPod, and for this you need to set your iPod to manage the iPod content manually.
However, storing music on your iPod and nowhere else is an extremely risky option because when (and not if) there comes a time to restore your iPod, which is a very common fix for iPod problems, then all the music would be erased. If you no longer have the music in iTunes (or any other back up), then all that music would be lost.
At the very least back up your music to either cd or dvd before deleting it, particularly any purchased music/videos, as this would have to be bought again if it were lost. See this about backing up media.
How to back up your media in iTunes.
What if the iPod were lost/stolen/needed repair? Again, the music would lost. I strongly recommend a back up, and if computer hard drive space is in short supply, you should seriously consider an external hard drive. They are not expensive, and the cost is well worth it when compared to the loss of all your precious music.

  • Podcasts and Multiple iPods on the same Windows PC

    Hi there,
I have iTunes (6.04) on a Windows XP machine (I would use my powerbook G4 but its hard drive isn't big enough!)
I have two iPod nanos (one mine, one my girlfriend's) which sync with this iTunes and it works well except for a small glitch.
I have a few iTunes-subscribed podcasts on my nano, but my girlfriend has none - but the podcast setting in options seems to be generally for iTunes, not specifically for each iPod. This means that even with her Podcasts option set to manual, she has to have at least one podcast selected. She can't set podcasts to be off - because that would affect my subscriptions.
Anyone got any clues or workarounds?

If I disable podcasts for one iPod- it disables for all (or so it seems). So because I have enabled podcasts for my nano, it has to be enabled for my girlfriend's nano too - and it won't let me select no podcasts from the list of checkable subscriptions, so the best I can do is just select one ...
This isn't the worst problem, but it does mean that she's got content on her nano that she doesn't want which isn't ideal.
    Thanks.

  • "Podcasts on the iPod 'iPod touch' cannot be synced ....?????

I'm getting a "Podcasts on the iPod 'iPod touch' cannot be synced because all of the podcasts selected for syncing no longer exist" pop-up when ever I sync.
Here is a post that seems to addressing the same type of error message for a failed music sync but after reading it I'm not making any sense of how it might relate to the a problem with a podcast sync: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1788041.
In a reckless attempt to fix the problem I deleted all the playlists which I created in iTunes, then deleted and resubscribed to the podcasts, and then did a sync. But the error still occurs and no podcasts were added to the iTouch (even though the newly resubscribed podcasts are in iTunes on my PC). I also found that I could download a podcast directly to the iTouch without having to subscribe to the podcast in iTunes. But I'd rather be getting the podcasts via the subscription feature that is in iTunes and then syncing them to the iTouch.
Any ideas what is going on ?
    Thank you.

After reading your post several times, I think I understand what you are saying, but can we just check the precise sequence of events, for (let's say) one Podcast episode?
    Are you:
    1. downloading the Podcast in iTunes;
    2. Syncing the iPod and therefore placing that Podcast on the Touch;
    3. Listening to the Podcast and then using the delete facility _on the Touch_ to delete that Podcast from the Touch;
(3A. Adding more Podcasts (and/or music) to your iTunes Library;)
    4. Performing another Sync and getting the message "Podcasts on the iPod 'iPod touch' cannot be synced because all of the podcasts selected for syncing no longer exist"?
Step 3A may or may not have occurred, it's not crucial. What is important to find out from you, are you deleting Podcasts on the Touch?
    Phil
Oh, and by the way, if new Podcast are no longer being transferred to the iPod, has the setting for syncing Podcasts been changed? Look on the Podcasts pane when you connect the iPod to iTunes.

  • Unable to check/uncheck older podcast episodes in iPod sync to iTunes 11.0

    Hi,
I have a few podcasts in my iTunes where I have saved a large number of episodes. Now I have upgraded to the new version of iTunes I unable to check/uncheck older podcast episodes from iPod syncing - the finder window won't scroll to the bottom of the list, and just 'bounces' after scrolling past a certain number!
Not sure if this is a bug, or I'm overlooking something.
    Thanks

I have the same problem.  Scrolling does not work in the iPod podcast list panel, but it works in every other panel or window in iTunes...
