Problems Syncing Gmail and Verizon Contacts

Since I got this phone, I've been having problems getting it to sync my contacts with gmail and with the Verizon Backup Assistant.
For Gmail, it seems to actually be updating the contacts (both from the .com to the phone and vice versa) but I always have a "sync error" noted under "Sync Contacts" for my main gmail address when I look at the account under "Accounts and Sync". (its a red exclaimation point next to "Sync Contacts" under the account info). Its not really a problem I guess, but the error message bugs me. The full message under "Accounts and Sync" is "Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly." This message has always been there.
For the Verizon Backup Assistant, I can only seem to get it to sync if I do it from the website for backup assistant (and that only works sometimes). It does not work from the phone when i hit the "back up now" tab in the Verizon Backup Assistant. Also it never has backed up any of my google/gmail contacts. On the few occasions when it has worked, it only backs up those contacts that have the little orange headshot which denotes a verizon contact.
I have spoken with Verizon support twice. They promise they will open a ticket/escalate the issue and call me back, but I never hear another word from them. After a failed attempt, the phone will continue to try to sync to Verizon Backup Assistant and send me repeated messages that it failed. Finally, I just have to shut the app down to stop the notifications.
BTW, I really don't care about the Verizon Backup Assistant, except that it needs to be on and working in order for the "wipe" function to work through the Assurion program if the phone is lost or stolen.
I have made sure that all my contacts have been 'joined' so it should work. Has anyone else had these problems with the Charge?

Had the same issues since I use my Droid for business and personal so I have > 2,000 contacts. The problem is Verizon Backup times out trying to import it all. As the Verizon Technical folks told me,. the Backup Assistant was made for a semi-smart phone like Blackberry where I had no issues in synching the phone since it has half the capabilities and features. These new phones can import 2-3X the data and features so it takes too much time.
First item: Export your Gmail contacts out of Google into a CSV file depending on the operating system you have. I'm on Windows 7 so CSV Windows and save your file to your Desktop.
Next TURN OFF your Synch capabilities on your Charge by going to OPTIONS/ACCOUNTS & SYNC and UNCHECK the Auto-synch box and the Background data boxes.
Next, got to the Verizon website, log-in and Click on My Verizon, then click on Backup Assistant at My Device Tab and import the file into Backup Assistant via the CSV import command that is on the Right side of this page down below where is says IMPORT CONTACTS. Once completed, it may take a while ( with my contact data base about 30 minutes) it should show your contacts on the screen. Log out and go back to your Charge OPTIONS/ACCOUNTS & SYNC and CHECK the Auto-synch box and the Background data boxes back to ON. Over the course of the next 1/2 hour or two, you will see your contacts start showing up depending if you are on 4G or wireless. Also make sure you are synching to your gmail account under Manage Accounts and you have Gmail selected. Since I'm on Outlook Exchange I just use Outlook (Until that time Google lets you imput multiple contacts from the same company instead of one at a time approach) and have GMail turned off.
Not sure about Google, but I know Verizon is using IntelliSync which is the same software Palm used on it's Palm Pilots to synch the data since I have seen it come up as it works really well. So once it has the core data base in there, it will synch all the updates/deletions no problem. I set mine to synch in the late evening since less traffic at that time. Let me know if this solves your problem.

Sync issue and lost contacts

My wife and I share an iTunes account. We have never had any problems until now. She hasnt updated her phone in a long time. Her screen shattererd on her 4 and I still had my old one so she switched to mine. When she did, I lost all of my contacts on my 5 and it all reverted to her contacts. (not good by the way because my iphone is also my work phone.) Everytime I try to restore my phone to a previous backup, it comes up and my contacts look normal for about 15 seconds, then my phone automatically reverts back to her contacts. I have tried turning off contacts sync in the settings but it still doesnt help. I have no idea what to do here as I am running out of ideas and I REALLY need all of those numbers back. Any help or tips would be extremely appreciated.

Not sure if this will work for you but this method was developed by another user to all one to restore contacts from a backup while preventing iCloud from overwriting them. If you wife's contacts aren't backed up, do that first using the app My Contacts Backup as this approach will require deleting them from iCloud.
Ensure the device is connected to your local network.
Start the restore from iCloud back up.
Allow the devices settings to restore (watch for the confirmation of completion).
As the apps begin to restore pull the connection to your router WAN port (the one that goes to the telephone point).
Wait for the time out confirmation.
Navigate to settings > iCloud and turn off contact syncing (keep contacts when prompted).
Reconnect the router to the internet and let the restore process complete.
Delete the iCloud contacts from iCloud.com on a computer.
Navigate to settings > iCloud and turn on contact syncing (merge contacts when prompted).

Don't want gmail and phone contacts synced

I have synced my s3 with my gmail account because I want to be able to check my email with my phone (like every other human). I don't, however, want my contacts synced because it puts many many contacts in my phone (everyone I have ever emailed). I just want phone contacts in the phone. How do I do this? Google has not been much help.

Another way is to turn off automatically adding email to your contacts. I email tons of different people and the only ones that show up in my contacts are the ones I put in my contacts. I do NOT automatically add emails to contacts as that is a completely useless feature for me.

I am looking for answers on how to sync contacts and calendar events on an iPhone 4S ios 7.
I recently updated my iMac os x to Mavericks and I just realized that you can no longer sync contacts and calendars in iTunes. I have been reading on line for quite a while and it would appear to be a simple thing to do by just going into setting and turning on iCloud, signing in to iCloud and turning everything on for syncing but no luck.
When I log into iCloud in my browser, calendars and contacts are there as well as on my iMac but not on my iPhone.
Any suggestions or links to help me set this up would be really appreciated.

Is it asking too much to be able to have synced contacts?I know that Microsoft obviously has a vested interest in helping only Microsoft customers, but face it, Apple people use skype also, as problem laden as it is, it is still used. My main quandary...why is it so impossible to add a name and number in skype on my iphone? Using a iphone 4s. What I have tried to do is add contacts from my contact book in the phone but skype will only let me add "skype people'. Why are you alienating non skype people? I have a ridiculous subscription to be able to use the phone to call ANY number and unless I dial it in by hand I cannot reach them. Then even if I dial it, I CANNOT go and and edit that same number to put a name in it. I tried to add contacts on the macbook and hope that the contacts synced. But lo and behold it DID NOT sync. Hi, hopefully I can help you out. First things first - make sure you're up to date. To get the latest Skype iOS client, you need to have at least iOS 7 installed on your device.When writing this, the latest public Skype iOS client is 5.14, you should try to update to this version if you haven't already. After logging in you should swipe to the "people" tab and you should see a dropdown saying either "all contacts", "Skype contacts" or "online contacts". To get your iPhone contacts to show up please select "all contacts" and then you should see them in the list and be able to place calls to them over Skype. Note that selecting this can prompt you to give Skype access to your address book.This should take care of your issue on iPhone. To get the same thing working on your Mac you should first make sure you have the same contacts you're interested in in your Mac Contacts application (synced over iCloud from iOS to Mac). From there again Skype can access them (you can enable this from Skype - Preferences - Show Mac Contacts). These contacts will show up in a separate contact group on Contacts page under Mac Contacts tab (as shown on the screenshot below) Hopefully this helps. -Rene---------- Skype for Mac

Syncing Gmail and Mail (iOS and Mac OSX

I receive Gmail through Mail on my iPad, iMac. and MacBook Pro. Opening an email on one device and discarding it has no effect on other devices. The mail will appear there also and wait for me to review and discard all over again. This stopped being fun on the iPad a few thousand emails ago, since there is no gang-delete function. (What was Apple thinking?)
Fortunately, I just learned of the Move button workaround for mass mail extinction. But the underlying problem remains. I'd like Mail to understand if I have already tossed an email downloaded from Gmail onto another Apple device. I want to stay in Mail for all my email management and avoid processing any mail on Google.
My Gmail accounts are set to iMAP, incidentally (the appropriate choice, according to Google, for allowing this kind of syncing).
Is there some setting in Gmail I need to tweak? Or do Google and Apple actually exist in separate and mutually repellant universes?

Problem with SMS and phonebook contact

Today it is the first time I had this kind of problem. I received a message from A person but my Q10 shows B person's name. I have double checked the number again and again, it is A person's number....the wired thing is how could it be shown in B person's name for SMS.

There have been many reports of contacts linking to other contacts without the user's input. If you tap on the contact in question, then tap on the pencil icon for Edit, at the bottom there will be a chainlink icon. Tap on that and you will see any other contacts to which that one is linked, as well as an option to un-link.
I have experienced this and it's very frustrating. It seems to me that having multiple cloud sources for contacts causes this. I had to wipe my device to factory settings, then add back only a single cloud source for contacts. I did not re-enable LinkedIn contacts nor did I turn on Verizon's own backup app. So far no more phantom linking.

Having a problem syncing music and I-tunes...please help!!!

I am new to this and will try to explain it best as I can. From what I understand about syncing, the music on my Iphone will sync to the music library once I plug my phone up. It does this automatically. That is fine and what I want it to do.
However, for some reason, I have 173 songs in my library and I want all of them to sync to my phone, but only 135 of them are doing so. I don't know where the problem lies.

Does an error message show that says why certain songs can't be synced? Sometimes it can be because the songs aren't authorized on the computer (if some came from a different iTunes account for example). Try playing one of the non-syncing songs in iTunes to make sure it works. Also, check the size of your files. Depending on who the songs were imported into iTunes it's possible that the files take up more space than your iPhone has available. Example would be if all of your songs were ripped from CD's and were large WAV files. If that's possible try converting the songs in iTunes to a smaller bitrate. If none of that helps you may need to try restarting or resetting your iPhone....or maybe even restoring it. I'm having a problem syncing playlists and manually adding music

I've been having this problem for awhile, but it's become more pronounced now that I'm trying to add outside mp3's saved to my itunes library to my iphone. I've followed the directions to add music manually and I check the playlist I want added to my phone when I sync, but it never adds it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Recent problem syncing exchange and iPhone

Until recently I have successfully and happily synced my Exchange (work) calendar and my iPhone. I use my Exchange calendar as my default calendar. For the past few weeks I have not been able to. I have checked my settings, Exchange is my default calendar. I have deleted and reinstalled my account (twice). Events that I enter on my computer show up on my iPhone (hurrah). Events that I enter on my iPhone do NOT show up on my computer (very problematic). This was not a problem until the past few weeks, before then everything was seamless.

Can you log in directly to your exchange account, bypassing Outlook? The first thing I would check is that the sync between iPhone and exchange is working correctly. By that I mean, making sure that when you add or delete events on your iPhone that it is also doing the same to your exchange account. It is possible that it is not synced correctly to exchange. Or it could be an issue with Outlook itself not getting the updated information. Maybe Outlook is not looking for the updates but every hour or something so it appears to not be syncing.
I would also try deleting the exchange account from your iPhone and then reset up your account. When I set up my exchange account and calendars it seemed to work fine for me. Whenever I added an event to one, the other received it. However, I was logging directly into Exchange. Give that a try. Maybe someone else might have some other advice.

I Have an Iphone 3gs and have problems syncing music and podcasts

I have had my phone now for around 15 months and have not had previous problems with it.
I synced my phone today and it has cleared all music and podcasts from it and will not allow me to resync - apps are syncing fine.
It is a 32GB phone but on summary page it now says its capacity is only 4GB
Any ideas on what I have done or how to fix?

If you're talking about "regular" icloud, then setting it up should have no effect on your music. Try syncing the device to iTunes and check the music settings and sync again.
If you subscribe to iTunes Match, is the device in wifi range?

How do I sync iPhone and Mac contacts (without using icloud)?

The option to directly sync my iphone contacts with my Mac's seem to have disappeared from iTunes. Given that I haven't (and don't want to) upload my contacts to apple's icloud servers, how can I do a simple synchronization?

I believe it is. I'm not a Mac user, but if you were to search the forum, there have been a number of threads regarding Mavericks and syncing, so a search of those terms will more than likely yield results that discuss the server information. I remember reading information, but since it did not pertain to me, I did not retain enough.

Just synced iPhone and SOME contacts gone from phone, still in address book

I just synced my iPhone for the first time in a couple weeks. The software is up to date, as is iTunes...
Anyhow, I noticed some of my contacts had disappeared when I looked in my SMS messages and a lot of them just had numbers where names used to be. Checked my contacts and a lot of contacts are missing.
They are still in my address book on my mac, and I have the correct folders checked so they should sync, but it is not doing so.
Photos, calendars, music/vid sync as normal.
What is going on? This is VERY annoying.

Have you noticed if it's a specific group that is not syncing correctly, or is it random contacts from all groups? If it's just a specific group, you may need to delete that group in Address Book and recreate it.
If it's random contacts from all groups and if all of the contacts you want on the iPhone are in Address Book, you can just select "Contacts" from the Advanced section down at the bottom of the Info tab. That will replace all contacts on the iPhone with those that you have selected to sync from Address Book.

Problems with Gmail and Mail App

Up until now, my gmail account (with 2 step log-in) has worked fine on my iPhone.
Today - when refreshing mail, I got a pop-up saying that the username and password were incorrect and mail couldn't be retrieved from the imap server at Google. So...I went to my account settings on google - revoked the existing application specific password for my iPhone mail and then generated a new one. When I entered it on the settings screen on my iPhone, I got the same message - u/p incorrect!
I deleted my gmail account and started over...same thing!!
Now, I have no access to mail and I can't figure out what to try next!
Anyone got any ideas?? Thanks!

Well...after entering 6 different app-specific passwords and performing 3 separate reboots...mail is back up and running. Next time I'll probably try putting my right foot in the air and spinning around in my chair 3.5 times...stupid Google!
