Problems syncing photos from iPhone to iPhoto

I have an iPhone 4 installed with iOS 5.0.1. I also have a slightly older version of iPhoto (I believe it's one generation behind; whatever that is). Prior to updating my iPhone to either iOS 5 or iOS 5.0.1 (I didn't check between updates) I used to be able to sync my photos FROM my iPhone into iPhoto. I can no longer do this and Apple has no idea what the problem is?!?!
iPhoto appears as though it's going to start syncing photos but then does nothing except gives me a big white screen; almost like it doesn't recognize the phone. I've tried deleting the photo cache and nothing. I've tried calling Apple support and nothing.
Can anyone help me with this, as it is very inconvenient to keep emailing photos to myself. I assume the issue has to do with the iCloud folder and iPhoto doesn't know what to do with the iCloud photo. Of course Apple has to understand this is an issue before it will be fixed, if I am correct.
Suggestions?

Since iPhoto syncing is not working for you right now and you need to replace your phone, consider transferring your pictures wirelessly to your computer using and app like PhotoSync. Also be sure to back up your contacts as they are not fully backed up as part of the iPhone backup. Either sync them to a service such as Google or use an app like My Contacts Backup (which will back up your contacts as an attachment to an email that your send to yourself and can later be used to import your contacts to your new phone).

As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

Problems sync Photos from IPhone to Windows XP

Has anyone had this issue? When I hook my Iphone up to my computer a blue screen pops up and the computer restarts. This only happens when I have photos on the phone. If I delete the photos and hook my phone up, it works fine. Everything syncs and I have no problem. But if I take a pic, the problems will keep happening. I've only had the phone for 1 month. I need help. I've been to the Apple Store, Geek Squad at Best Buys and haven't gotten any help. AT this point I'm disgusted because the phone is not working to it's fullest capacity. I can't use it for photos.

Why am I having this problem importing photos from iPhone to iPhoto?

I'm getting the error:
Error downloading image.
iPhoto cannot import your photos because there was a problem downloading an image.
when I "Import All..." from my iPhone. Trying to import individual images I get
The following file cannot be imported. (The file is in an unrecognized format.)

I can import the Photos when I am logged-in with other user profile in same macbook air.
It's not working with Image capture and Preview too.
PS: Images are not corrupt as it's getting imported through other user profile,so it's the issue with Iphoto.
I have done below steps but none of this fixed the issue:
1. Uninstalled Iphoto and installed it again.
2. Deleted the old iphoto library and created a new one.
3. Rebuild the library.
4. Repaired permissions using Disk Utility,
Could anyone give me solution for this.

Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership, permissions, and access controls to the default. So I have been holiday and have been taking pictures with my iphone. Now that I'm back on wifi I tried to sync via PhotoStream. THIS DID NOT WORK. May be because of the volume. (400 pictures). This is fine so I turned of Photostream on my computer and on my phone. I then tried to sync these pics manually. THIS DOES NOT WORK!!! I have my whole holiday on my phone and no way to get them off. I want to be able to see my phone in iphoto as a device. Why has this been taking out!! THis is really stupid if that's the case or please tell me what I should do. I have had apples for years and I have restarted all devices and programs. I have been a big fan of apple for years bt if I can't go back to manual with stuff like photo stream or anything else for that matter it really *****!! Please tell me how to fix this. I want to be able to see my camera roll in iPhoto as a device. If this is not possible anymore then I want to know why photostream does not work and I want a solution. As I said my whole holiday is on this phone and when I get back top Australia I will have a differnet phone but not my photos. I have borrowed this phone so these pics need to come off.....
PhotoStream did work for while but then it just stopped working. What I find hard to understand though is why my phone is not showing up as a device in the iphoto menu.
Please tell me someone here knows how to fix this. I will jailbreak my phone from now on if this is the new apple way....

Problems sending photos from iPhone to iPhoto

My iPhone stopped sending photos to my iPhoto (Photo Stream). I thought it might be because I reached the maximum 1000 photos on the stream. So, I deleted the 1000 photos. But, then the rest of the photos still would't download. How can I manually tell my photo stream that I want to stream the rest of the photos to iPhoto? I tried selecting the photos that didn't go across and selecting a new photo stream, but that didn't work. Any ideas?

Thanks so much Meg. Unfortunately, iTunes is the program I use to perform syncing. I don't really have other outside options. It is also the location of the backup I would use to restore my phone, and my only way to reclaim important data. I am concerned that, since the last backup occurred when the "other" bar was only moderately huge (around 29G I think), that a backup would replicate the problem back onto my phone.
My contacts, etc. are all in address book and the calendar app on my Mac. As far as I know, iTunes is the way to get them back, but iTunes is where the problem is.
Any thoughts on this?

I know exactly what you're going through. I may win the prize for having the most number of photos on my iPhone (2,397) that couldn't get downloaded. I have never been able to export photos from my iPhone to any of my Macs using iPhoto or Image Capture. (And yes, all OS and apps are the latest revisions). Nor have any of the popular apps like Picasa2, Adobe Photoshop Elements, or Windows native Camera & Scanner Wizard been able to do it on my Windows machines. BUT, the only 3rd party app that I had any success with was the Tansee iPhone Transfer Photo program. It downloaded 884 photos from my iPhone before that app stopped working, for some reason. It cost $20USD and works on Windows only. You may have better luck than I downloading all your photos.

Yes, I did solved the problem. It was not with iPhoto but with the iTunes. Once I delete my phone profile all worked. I did not write the steps down but if you do it please post it here.

I recently changed my harddisk on my macbook pro, fresh installed os x, updated to mountain lion.
I know most ppl would say I can transfer my data from time-machine, which I could. But my previous disk was backedup from my old old mac, 5 years ago, there is a lot crap on it which I don't want, etc.
Anyway. so I have the new system, and installed ilife. Then here is an issue:
- you can import all your photos from iphone to iphoto without problem,
- but all the face recognition and locations(for each album) defined on my iphone are't imported
So my questions is: how?
Also, it would be very handy if we can import apps from iphone to itunes? If you can, not sure how?

If so it will cost you. Ive been told by Apple Support that your iphone photos albums are merely a mirror of the original photos. It is not an extra copy or a back up.
You can get a third party software from http://www.ecamm.com
Its called "PhoneView" There is a free version and one for 19.99.
I ended up getting both. It sure beats email all those cropped photos I put in albums to myself.
That would have taken forever so the 19.99 is worth it. Good Luck!

I have the same issue. I've already read the iPhone user guide which didn't help.
The user guide explains how to turn on Photo Sync in iTunes but no specifics of where the imported photos will be. I tried syncing a few times and I cannot find the photos on my PC.iTunes transferred all my PC photos *to* the phone, but not the other way around.
I'd imagine they should be in the folder that is specified in iTunes.
Any help would be appreciated!

The only way is to sync to iTunes on a computer and then sync from iTunes to the other device, using USB.
If you're thinking of using photo stream, that won't work now, since only photos taken AFTER each device was logged into photo stream will sync between them. All older photos must be synced via a computer.
The exception to this is if you use dropbox or some other service to act as the middleman.
