Problems syncing with iCal and Treo 650

I use iSync for syncing my iBook G4, .Mac, iPod Photo and Treo 650. It has worked fine until a month ago. The iSync conduit somehow works OK with the Contacts/Address Book, but doesn't for the Tasks and Calendar (iCal). It is a real pain the to write everything manually on the Treo and the iBook separately. Can anyone help me with this? I really don't want to replace (reset) all the info on my Treo; this will cause me to re-categorize everything in the Treo, for iSync doesn't take care of it as far as I know. Thanks, ~L
iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Welcome to Apple Discussions.
What does your HotSync log say about these unsuccessful attempts to synchronize your Treo 650?
While it is important to correct this problem, if you want support for categories, calendar colors, contact photographs or icons, extended electronic mail addresses, URL and birthday data, you should ditch iSync in favor of the Missing Sync for Palm OS, a much more powerful and reliable program:
http://www.markspace.com/missingsync_palmos.php
On advanced Palm organizers and smartphones like your Treo 650, extended support is available as outlined in this document, for contacts…
http://www.markspace.com/support/kb.php?x=&mod_id=2&id=2560
…and this document, for events and tasks:
http://www.markspace.com/support/kb.php?x=&mod_id=2&id=2563
In addition, it supports internet sharing, Finder mounting and file transfer with SD cards, conduit profiles, iPhoto and iTunes media file synchronization, the synchronization of AvantGo content, and network synchronization of supported devices.

  • Recommendations for a phone that will sync with iCal and Addressbook?

I'm confused by the posts regarding what mobile phones will and won't sync with iCal and Addressbook. Apple has a list of isync compatible devices (http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/isync/devices.html), but it seems from some of the posts here as though phones not listed will also sync.
Can those of you who know about cellular phones that sync with iCal and Addressbook please recommend some models for me. These are the things I need:
    -Cingular service compatibility
-syncs with iCal (including to dos) and Addressbook (must store at least 1500 entries)
    -bluetooth
-a small phone would be nice
I don't care whether it has a camera, an mp3player, PTT, picture messaging, video, or voice activation. Wi-Fi would be nice, but it's not imperative. Also, please let me know if I would need to purchase any third-party software or hardware.
    Thank you.
    Todd Berliner

The supported device list contains a list of devices that Apple claims are explicitly compatible with iSync out of the box, subject to the limitations outlined in the footnotes at the bottom of the page [the ones that apparently almost no one ever reads] and the general rule that carriers may not support certain features [say, Bluetooth or USB] and may not support certain functions [say, calendar synchronization] with a supported device.
Manufacturers like Audiovox, LG, Samsung and Sharp are not supported, unless they run an OS listed below, instead of their proprietary operating systems. If a device is not manufactured by Motorola, Nokia, Panasonic, Seimens, Sendo or SONY Ericsson, it is generally not supported, unless it uses…
    • the Blackberry OS [which requires third-party software]
    • the danger HipTop OS [which requires third-party software]
    • the Palm OS [which is is supported but performs better with third-party software]
    • the Windows Mobile OS [which requires third-party software*]
*Windows Mobile 5 device support is not yet available in release software.
…or, an iSync-compatible plug-in has been written to extend support to a specific device or family of devices.
Julian referred you to a site where he has made a number of plug-ins available for various mobile handsets. Nova Media also sells a low cost package of plug-ins providing support for various handsets.
    http://www.novamedia.de/sync/index.html
Others have built single-use plug ins with various degrees of success, which you can find using tools like Google.
The bottom line: if you are going to vary from the iSync Supported Device list, you have to do some relatively extensive research, including searching these forums for your specific device, to determine if it can be supported. Many plug-ins are intended only to work with iSync 2.2, so Mac OS X 10.4.6 is a requirement in most cases.

  • Outlook 2011 no longer syncing with iCal and contacts

I have installed Yosemite recently on my Macbook Pro. I run MS Outlook 2011 for professional reasons. Until now, syncing with my Android phone worked (almost) fine, using a nice app called SyncMate. For a few days now (not sure it is linked to installing Yosemite though) new data on my outlook calendar and address book no longer appear on my phone after syncing. After checking I realized that Outlook is actually not syncing any more with iCal and Contacts, so of course the syncing with the phone cannot work. How can I resolve this ?

facing the same problem, it was syncing prior to my upgrade to Lion. have you managed to find a solution?

  • Any recommendations on productivity for database and project management, Bento was good but no longer sync with ical and address book

I've unfortunately updated to the new Bento on MakBook and iPad and synced my data and in the process it tells me that iCal and Address books will not sync any more.  I have several projects I am working on and looking for something that will syn with iCal, address book and Busy Cal to manage my  time efficiently and seamlessly. Help?

I think you're in the wrong forum - this is for developers, who write programs for apple products.
As for Bento, their problem is due to Apple's changes in the API.  The code that syncs with calendars and contacts is now deprecated, which means at some point in the future, it will no longer work.  This problem will affect all developers, so you probably won't find any replacement for Bento.

  • I lost my sync with iCal and contacts on my iPhone 3GS when I upgraded to iCloud.  It worked just fine with Mobile Me.

I upgraded to IOS5 and iCloud on my MacBook Pro after I upgraded my iMac to iCloud. I keep my phone in sync with my MacBook, but now my Contacts and iCal will not sync with my iPhone3GS.  What have I done wrong?

I had the same problem and believe I figured it out.
Calendars: In iTunes, with your iPod plugged in, go to the 'info' tab. De-select "Sync iCal Calendars". This fixed dupes, and did not erase any entries because MobileMe is keeping me updated.
Contacts: Whether I select or deselect "Sync Address Book Contacts, I still get duplicate contacts, but only when I look at "All Contacts". Go to "Groups" in Contacts on your iPod and select either "All from My Mac" or "All MobileMe". You get a single copy of each contact. Give it a minute or two after syncing as it takes a bit for MobileMe to update everything. At first I had a different number of contacts in each list, but a couple minutes after syncing, both lists matched.
    Hope this helps...

  • Video ipod not syncing with ical and address book

In iTunes preferences, under the tab for both calendar and contacts, when I attempt to check the "synchronize Address Book contacts", I get a window that says: No Contacts Available contact syncing cannot be enabled because there are no contacts available. Do you want to open Address Book and create contacts now? If I choose open address book, it opens my address book which has 564 contacts in it. The same thing is happening with ical.

Weel, I finally discovered what the problem was. It seems to have occurred a mistake while syncing two computers with .mac. Apparently, instead of reinitializing all informations from one of them, they were simply erased and, while on one of the computers my calendars did appear (the one I was syncing the iPod, too), they were a sort of 'ghost' images. So I had to reinitialize again, and then tried to sync the iPod. Now the calendars are displayed correctly on both, and the sync preferences on iTunes are correct, too. Hope this can help somebody.

  • Upgraded Office for Mac 2011 to 14.1.4 and now Outlook will not sync with iCal and Contacts

I have upgraded my iMac to Microsolf Office 2011 version 14.1.4 and now Outlook will not sync the calender contents and contacts to iCal and Address Book. Prior to the installation of 14.1.4 all worked well. Discovered the problem when I sync'ed my iPad and the addresses and calendar went missing. New entries to the calendar will sync. Help.

Office is not an Apple product. You are much more likely to find a resultion in the MS forums:

  • How can I make my Outlook sync with ical and address book on more than one mac?

It currently syncs with my iMac through 'this computer' folder, but i dont have outlook on my macbook, so basically... how can i make my outlook automatically convert/sync to icloud enabled folders?
    Not too confusing i hope.

Outlook won't work with iCloud. On your Mac.

  • IPhone 4 problems syncing with iCal in Lion

I have an iPhone 4 with IOS 5.0.1,  and a Macbook Pro with OS 10.7.2 and itunes 10.5.1. Every time I plug my iphone into the Macbook, it launches itunes and does a sync, but then it gives me a "Sync Conflict" message. It tells me there are 2 conflicts, and these are always the same two Ical items which i have recently changed on my iphone. It asks me how I want to resolve them, and when I click on "using iPhone" and then OK, the message goes away, but the sync does not work and the message pops up again every 5 minutes. I've tried using the iCal items, same problem.
One detail: About a month ago, i had a brief stint where I tried using ICloud, but I found that all of my ical events were doubled and even tripled and it was a huge mess. I kept having to delete events that were repeated, and they kept coming back. I deleted iCloud and stoped using it. Not sure if this is relevant.
Another detail, I just switched to Lion about a week ago, I was using OS 10.6 before and never had this problem. Seriously considering uninstalling Lion.

    Hey,
I have the same issue only I went from a widows 7 OS to a Vista OS to backup mine.
This seems to be a common fault since the new update of 4.3.3, as there are several people who have done the same as you and I but on several windows OS.
Therefore one can conclude its not a fault with windows but may lie in the iPhone update.
Also I have seen a patten in that its the personal computers of the iPhone owner that wont work, yet someone else's system with work just fine?
Still hopefully there is more to come to resolve this issue.

  • Problems Syncing with Outlook and Calendar

We are trying to roll out outlook 2007 together with outlook connector 7.2u1 at patch level 125361-03. Installation goes ok. But we have a major problem with Calendars.
Having used Sun Mail & Calendar for years our users subscribe to a number of calendars, these show up in outlook in the left hand pane and are selectable to view, which syncs the calendar into outlook - all well and good.
Now the major problem, when syncing another persons calendar to view availability etc, all the reminders get sent to the user viewing the calendar as well as going to the owner - where we have users that subscribe to around 20-30 calendars thats alot of other peoples reminders that pop up on the screen !
    Any help greatfully received.

  • Palm sync with iCal and Address

I have recently bought a new computer and since I have lost the installation CD of my Palm, I have down loaded the drivers from their web page. It seems to sync well, but it's not, because neither my contacts or my calendar are being synchronized! Does anyone have any idea of what's wrong? I have checked the preferences and got to no conclusion. What's the use of a Palm without synchronizing with our data?!
    Regards

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Reinstalling the Palm Desktop was a really bad idea. Although you believe it changed nothing, it actually changed everything. And, it could not possibly have corrected the original issue, which almost certainly does not involve the HotSync Manager or Transport Monitor, and could not have involved the remained of the Palm package at all.
Palm device synchronization using iSync and the iSync Palm Conduit will not work until you have address the issues which reinstalling it created, and the original issue which prevented the execution of a synchronization event.
To correct this, you should first remove your Palm device from iSync.
Then, apply this software package to update Mac OS X 10.4.9 for your PowerPC-based Macintosh:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx1049comboupdateppc.html
You must use this package to perform the update, as neither the smaller delta updater of the Software Update mechanism will perform the necessary changes to your configuration.
Once you've done that, you should launch iSync 2.4 and use the Enable Palm OS Syncing… option under the Devices menu to once again add your Treo to iSync. It's probably better to initiate this process via USB, though if you elect to use Bluetooth instead, be sure that you pair your smartphone to your computer prior to attempting to add it to iSync.
If you cannot add it as a device, stop and post the error messages you see rather than trying to address them. This process should be straightforward and simple but it often is not, and proceeding without understanding the impact of what you are doing may force you to start this procedure all over again.

  • Problems syncing with XP and VISTA

i have a laptop running XP, a laptop is running VISTA and my office desktop is running XP Pro.  when i get one of these to work (changing configuration to read desktop overwrites handheld) and try to sync on any of the other machines it ALWAYS hangs.  again, Task Manager to abort the Hot Sync and remove the battery from the Cento to abort the sync.  my frustration level is climbing and considering i've only had this phone for about 3 weeks the future does not look bright.  my carrier is verizon if that's important.

Sounds like you have some corruption of the Calendar DB.  I'd suggest trying "DBFixit" from Pimlico software.
    http://www.pimlicosoftware.com/dbfixit.htm
The program will scan for problems for free, (and might fix some of them) but full repair requires a purchase.

  • Problems with iCal and Picasa: related to system battery?

Just over the past two days, iCal has been repeatedly showing alarms at 5 past the hour, and Google Update has been repeatedly (much more often than hourly) asking for me to update Picasa, even though I successfully updated the first time the dialog box appeared a couple of days ago.
The iCal alarm that popped up while I was reading this showed alarms dating back to 23:55 GMT on Monday 15 November. If I leave my computer for more than 2 hours I do not get duplicate alarm windows stacked up.
Racking my brain for recent changes made which may be significant (I use my computer so much it seems to be in a continuous state of flux):
    -I reset the SMC
    -I upgraded to 10.6.5
-My slot-loading drive has been failing to eject CDs (probably a red herring. I've been using a script to repeatedly use drutil tray eject 1 until ejected).
Other details which may or may not have a bearing:-
I use Parallels Desktop 5 regularly, which slows my machine down considerably.
I have an iPhone 3G which I sync with iCal, iTunes, Adress Book etc.
Any other changes, I really can't remember. Is there any way to look at log files (which I find monumentally off-putting, but would try), or something else, to easily pick out my recent significant changes? The fewer sources I have to check the better, as I am very time-poor.
Obviously thanks and respect go to anyone who can be helpful.

This solved my the problem ! The solution was written by a Googe employee.
I assume you've enabled two-factor authentication for your Google account. In this case, you'll have to generate an access code at https://www.google.com/
accounts/IssuedAuthSubTokens - and use that code in place of your password in the iPhone Mail settings.
You'll have to generate a new access code for each place you log in that doesn't support two-factor authentication (i.e. anywhere except in a browser).
Since the apple email client doesn't support the new gmail authenticator, you have to generate a code via the link above and use that in place of your regular password.

Hope to hear helpful news soon....

No, the camera connection kit only supports the copying of photos and videos to the Photos app, it doesn't support copying content off the iPad. For your second camera instead of the SD reader part of the kit, does the iPad to camera cable not work with it for direct transfer to the iPad ?
For Lightroom and Nikon software again no - you can only install apps that are available in the iTunes app store on your computer and the App Store app on the iPad, 'normal' PC and Mac (OS X) software are not compatible with the iPad (iOS). There are some apps that perform fairly basic editing functions that are available in the store, but nothing as sophisticated as, for example, Lightroom.
