Problems to start SAP instance after reboot

Hello experts,
we are occuring a problem that we are not able to start our SAP instance after we applied some MS patches and rebooted the server. We also deinstalled these patches buzt this also did not help, so I guess the reason somewhere else.
We are running a SQL server 2000 on a Windows 2003 SP2 (32bit)
SAP kernel is 640 PL 304
The SQL server seems to operate normally, however when we try to start SAP via MMC the process disp+work fails (it's green for a few seconds, but then turn so grey).
In dev_w0 I can find this entry
C Mon Feb 22 12:35:18 2010
C  OpenOledbConnection: line 23082. hr: 0x8000ffff [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access denied.
C  sloledb.cpp [OpenOledbConnection,line 23082]: Error/Message: (err 17, sev 10), [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access denied.
C  Procname: [OpenOledbConnection - no proc]
C  sloledb.cpp [OpenOledbConnection,line 23082]: Error/Message: (err 0, sev 10), Invalid connection string attribute
C  Procname: [OpenOledbConnection - no proc]
C  Provider SQLNCLI could not be initialized. See note #734034 for more information.
C  Using provider SQLOLEDB instead.
I hope you have an idea to solve the issue soon.
Thanks a lot
Philipp

Hi,
yes I read this SAP note however when I try to install this patch
It fails with message "installation unsuccessful"
Reason ??
Check the following:
1. Status of SQLServer Service(s)?
2. Windows Event Log Entries?
What is the SP level of SQL Server 2000 ?
Also, Perform the Connectivity Test as per[ this link|http://support.microsoft.com/kb/827422/].

  • Can not start SAP instance after change the profile

    Dear all
    We use system copy to build SAP system.
    Source
    Ecc 6.0(64 bit)
    Windows Server 2008 SP2
    SQL Server 2008 SP2
    Target
    Ecc 6.0(64 bit)
    Windows Server 2008 SP2
    SQL Server 2008 SP2
    In target system, we want to use the instance profile as source system,
    but after copy from source system we find that if parameter em address_space_mb = 512 in the profile,
    we can not start SAP instance.
    Could anyone explain it?
    Best regards
    Shirley

    Hi Shirley,
    I assume the hardware is less on the target than on the source or they are different at least in terms of hardware specs
    If the system is not starting, check the dev_disp.log, the stderr* files, and the dev_w0 log from the work directory to find the exact error. Does the system start if you increase or decrease this value?

  • Problem in starting SAP and DB2

    Hi ,
    I am facing problem in starting SAP,
    I have installed the NW7.0 with DB2 trial version on SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 10 SP2.
    When I try start the SAP , It gives me the error
    Why do I receive the error, "SQL6048N A communication error occurred during START or STOP DATABASE MANAGER processing." ?
    Please can any one help me.
    Thanks,
    Sridhar

    Dear Sridhar,
    A TCP/IP communication error occurred while the START or STOP DATABASE MANAGER command was trying to establish connection with all the nodes defined in the sqllib/db2nodes.cfg configuration file.
    possible solutions to fix SQL6048N:
    Ensure that the node has the proper authorization defined in the .rhosts or the host.equiv files.
    Ensure that the application is not using more than (500 + (1995 - 2 * total_number_of_nodes)) file descriptors at the same time.
    Ensure all the Enterprise Server Edition environment variables are defined in the profile file.
    Ensure the profile file is written in the Korn Shell script format.
    Ensure that all the host names defined in the db2nodes.cfg file in the sqllib directory are defined on the network and are running.
    For my case, itu2019s as simple as updating the hostname information defined in sqllib/db2nodes.cfg configuration file!
    The db2start command rocks again after updating the hostname information!
    If youu2019ve the same DB2 SQL6048N error code when starting DB2 Instance processes with db2start command, confirm the hostname in sqllib/db2nodes.cfg is correct, especially after changing Linux networking information, such as the server hostname!
    Definetely it will work when you update the host information in sqllib/db2nodes.cfg.
    Please let me know if you have still issues.
    Thanks
    Kishore

  • Problem starting ipip tunnel after reboot

    I have ipip tunnet and the netcfg profile looks like:
    CONNECTION='tunnel'
    DESCRIPTION='birds ipip tunnel'
    INTERFACE='BIRDS'
    MODE='ipip'
    REMOTE='82.*.*.*5'
    LOCAL='217.*.*.*4'
    IP='no'
    ROUTES=('10.0.11.0/24 dev BIRDS src 10.0.10.1')
    This tunnel interface works if started by command "netcfg -u birds" but it does not start automatically after reboot. I have enabled netcfg service like 'systemctl enable netcfg@birds'. After reboot I see interface BIRDS configured but shutdowned. I think it happens because systemd starts services in parallel and ipip cannot be started before eth0 is started (interface with ip address LOCAL)
    How can I make dependency in netcfg profiles to start them in specified order ? Or can I do this by systemd configurations ?

    the problem is your archive directory is full. take archive log backup or move old archive log files to another location.

  • Problem in starting SAP liveCache server

    Hi,
    I am getting the following error message when i tried to start SAP liveCache server with LC10.
    "Restart of liveCache LC3 on saplc3cache terminated; reason: User LC3RFC has lock"
    Message no. LVC072
    Does anyone has idea! abt the error? why it comes and how it can be solved?
    Thanks,
    Venkat

    Hi Christiane,
    The startup procedure is not even reaching the lcinit script. There are absolutly no logs in knldiag and lcinit.log files. After little bit debugging I found the problem. But don't know how to solve it.
    The problem occured when I was doing disrptive testing for the liveCache server.
    When I kill ("KILL  -9 PID") the liveCache server processes (<b>master first and then child</b>) there are some IPC resources hanging over there. These IPC resources (shared memory segments) holds some locks and are preventing the liveCache server to startup.
    The problem is not happening when I kill child first and then master process (all the IPCs are getting removed in this case).
    I am wondering whether SAP has any tool to remove these IPC resources for liveCache server uniquely for perticular liveCache server (something similar to cleanipc for SAP systems).
    I can't write a script to remove all the IPC resources based on the user name ('sdb') which same for liveCache server and MaxDB. (Imagine a case where MaxDB(APO DB) and liveCache server are running together). Any other solutions?
    Any answers/suggestions are most welcome.
    Thanks,
    Venkat

    Highly Appreciate your early response on this.
    Regards,
    Vinod

    Dear Vinod,
    Just do the below things
    -> ask your cluster admn to bring offline SAP instances & then thereafter your database as well.
    -> After that goto usr folder where you find to folder namely ASCS** and SCS** ,In each of this folder there is a sapstartsrv.exe & sapstartsrv.exe.new.
    -> Rename the sapstartsrv.exe to sapstartsrv.exe.old &
    -> Rename the sapstartsrv.exe to sapstartsrv.exe
    -> Now ask cluster administrator to bring the database online first then the SAP instances
    -> check now whether your SAP will up or not this time.
    Let us know if you find any other errors.
    Thank You.
    Kind Regards,
    Rafikul Hussain

  • Starting OC4J_BI_FORMS automatically after reboot on Win2000

    Does any know how to configure OCJ4_BI_FORMS to startup
    automatically after rebooting on win2000. Now, I'm manually starting the OC4J_BI_FORMS instance, and would like to automate the startup after reboot.
    Thanks in advance

    I think it's controlled by auto-start for your application in %ora9ias_home%\j2ee\OC4J_BI_Forms\config\server.xml.

  • I have Problems with starting em dbconsole after a fresh Installation

    I have been having problems running EM console on Oracle 10g R2 on windows xp after a fresh installation and I did not receive any error messages while the Installation was going on. I was able to log into sqlplus successfully and I started the instance and em dbconsole (which started up successfully, but still yet , after logging into em dbconsole the status of the instance is still not running?
    I still tried further to startup the instance, after entering my host credentials and sysdba account, I get this error message;;
    Error

    What could possibly be the reason for this situation?

    Thanks 4 responding to my enquiries, accidentally I had already gotten a tip from someone who suggested that I should turn off the dbcontrol and leave the database and listener running, then recreate the enterprise manager repository using the "emca.bat" utility.
    <emca.bat -config dbcontrol db -repos recreate>
    Which I did after entering the values I got this error message;

  • Tools and Script for stopping and starting SAP instances in the landscape

    Hi All,
    All our SAP system are on Windows 2003 and very few on Windows 2000.
    Is there any possiblity for having a script which will stop and start SAP on all the instances in the Landscape from a central system?
    Lets say we have some 200 SAP instances and we need to down all the instances for Windows patching.
    In this case, we need to manually take remote desktop to stop and start all the instances one by one.
    Also, do we have any 3rd party automated tools for this purpose?
    Regards,
    Siva.

    Hi Siva,
    You can configure ACC for your system landscape.

    By definition your installation was not successful.
    What network were you connected to when you installed the database?
    After you rebooted are you still connected to the same network?
    Has the IP Address changed?
    How is "HOST" defined in your listener.ora tnsnames.ora files?
    Oracle 10g dot anything is currently in desupport mode. It would be far better to install 11gR2 at this point in time.
