Problems transferring music with USB 2.0

I recently installed a USB 2.0 PCI card with 4 ports, the card installed fine and plugging my Nano into it was fine, however, when I try to transfer music onto the Nano it keeps freezing. It'll transfer maybe the first 2 or 3 tracks of an album and then stop. Clicking on 'Update iPod' means it'll do perhaps another 2 tracks and then it'll freeze again. I have to keep clicking on 'Update iPod' to eventually get all the songs moved over - it kinda defeats the object of using USB 2.0!!!
I'm running SP 2 so thats not the problem and everything else that's connected to the new ports are running fine. Any ideas...anyone...please??!!

Hi,
what you could try is to reinstall the chipset driver because I think the USB is related to the chipset.
In my opinion the upgraded Windows had changed the USB driver from Toshiba one to MS one. So the Port replicator is not recognized all times.

  • Problem Transfereing Music. Computer Freezes.

Hi there. Just got a new Ipod and I am haveing problems transferring music to it. I installed Itunes and loaded all my music into it. My problem comes whenever I try and transfer my music to the Ipod. As soon as I try and transfer it the computer basically goes into hibernation mode and won't come out without restarting the computer.
    Anyone else had this problem?

thanks - all other usb devices are disconnected. I tried to run the error check on the ipod, but when I click "start" (on the tools tab) that screen just goes away & doesn't seem to be doing anything.

  • Transfering 14 gig of music with USB 1

They way I understand things is that if the hard drive is constantly spinning the battery life is significantly decreased. I have 14 gig of music and as USB 1 won't charge as it transfers I am worried that if I buy a new ipod I won't be able to transfer all my muisc before the battery runs dry. Am I being silly? Has anyone out there transfered a similiar amount of music via USB 1?

I'm considering the brand new white iPOD, but have similar doubts. I gripped one of the Apple reps at the Expo in London yesterday, and was given the following information:-
    1. If you are using a MAC with USB 1, but also firewire, then use the firewire connection (a cable is available from Apple).
There is also a seperate charger available from Apple for use with the iPOD when you only have USB1 installed on your Mac. I find all this irritating, specially since I have a 12" Laptop and a circa 2002 iMAC (swivel screen). Neither machines have USB2.
    2. I was told also that downloading from computer to iPOD via USB1 is deadly slow, and not worth the bother. Anyone got a totally realistic view about the download time from real experience. Thanks. Lance

  • Problem transfering music to Nokia 5000

    Greetings,
Using Nokia PC Suite version 7.0.9.2 under Windows Vista Ultimate, 64-bit, using Bluetooth connection to my Nokia 5000.
I'm trying to transfer music files to the phone using Nokia Music Manager. I'm unable to play any transferred files in my phone - whenever I try, I'm getting "File corrupted" message. The converted files (to AAC format) play fine in Music Manager itself. Also, if I transfer the original MP3 files directly using file transfer, they play fine in the phone.
The same problem also existed with the previous version of Nokia PC Suite (I think that was 7.0.8.2).

  • IRQ problems?, especially with USB.... read this

Summary: the following things are listed to help people configure or disable USB and USB IRQ related options, some steps may help diagnose/eliminate other IRQ problems. Some Operating Systems/Motherboards may have Similiar or Alternative ways to preform the following options,(Some may not be compatible with these Options):
From initial installation problems to suddenly not working USB, cleaning up the Device manager in Safe mode is the first step. Many hardware related problems in Windows can be traced to ghost devices and duplicate device entries. Obsolete and/or duplicate devices can ONLY be seen and removed in Windows Safe Mode. This procedure MUST be performed in SAFE MODE.
USB can only share its IRQ with other USB Host controllers (such as a USB upgrade card, if applicable) and IRQ Holder for PCI Steering. (Some of the newer motherboards can share USB Devices with their On-Board Devices,ex: K7N2 Delta
In most cases for mother boards the First and Last PCI slot share the same IRQ as the AGP slot. This is not always the case, and is usually addressed in the motherboard's manual. In some motherboards there are other slots that share IRQ's with other on board devices, these can lead to conflicts and errors later; try changing cards in PCI slots around.
Sometimes you may find that when you have installed a new card (or device) into the system, other devices such as the sound card may stop working. Once again, the resource configuration needs to be changed. Do so by going to Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager, (Com1) ,or other port's properties, disable usage. This is also the best way of disabling hardware so that if necessary the customer can turn the hardware back on through windows rather than having to play in the BIOS.After disabling a device in the BIOS boot to Safe Mode and delete the device from the Windows Device Manager. If the device is not removed from the Windows Device Manager in Safe Mode, Windows will continue to recognize the device and Windows will continue to assign it an IRQ.
In some versions of the Award, AMI and Phenix bios you can select Plug and Play OS installed. This option lets you decide whether windows should handle the IRQ routing of devices or if the BIOS should handle the routing. Please note that if this option is enabled windows will show a completely different setup of IRQ's then what the BIOS reports You may wish to toggle this option if you find that moving the card dosn't work. This in some cases will change the way windows will assign IRQ's. In most cases this will help but not in all.
Another section that you might want to look at is if the IRQ's are being assigned manually or automatically. Sometimes it is better to manually assign IRQ's and other times it is better to automatically assign them. You can do so by entering your BIOS... should be listed under PNP/OS or PNP/PCI Configuration. ( You must disable Plug N Play feature for this to work!)
Properly installed IRQ Steering is critical to correctly working USB. If IRQ Steering is disabled the likely cause is improper BIOS settings. See the section on BIOS Settings. Go to Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager, System Devices, PCI Bus...If you do not have the following options, then obviously your system shouldn't be configured this way. Seek alternative means to enable/disable them. View Status, go to Settings tab, Use Hardware should be enabled, go to IRQ Steering tab... The following options should be checked... Use IRQ Steering, Get IRQ table using ACPI BIOS, GET IRQ table using MS Specification table, Get IRQ table from Real Mode PCIBIOS 2.1 call.... Under IRQ Routing Status the following should be displayed: (AMD) system should read: IRQ Steering Enabled, IRQ Table read from ACPI BIOS. (Intel) system should read: IRQ Table read from MS IRQ Routing Specification), IRQ Miniport Data processed successfully, IRQ Miniport loaded successfully. If IRQ Steering is not enabled. Reboot the system to the BIOS setup (Usually holding the DEL key at bootup) and Enable (Plug and Play Operating System). Set (Assign IRQs) AUTO or System. IRQ Steering is essential to proper USB connectivity. BIOS control of Power Management should be Disabled or set to User...
If all the above doesn't work, you can look at the hardware in the computer and disable any that is not nessasary. This will free up some IRQs and on the next reboot the IRQs may be reshuffled to a better configuration. Common hardware that is good to disable are com ports and USB controllers.  If you are not using your serial port for anything, disable COM1. If you are not using your USB try disabling the USB controllers and hubs. If you are using a USB mouse, try pulling it into the PS/2 port if possible. All these things will free up and change the available IRQ's, and allow USB devices to automatically select them.
Disable USB Error Detection In Windows Standard Mode, Device Manager, USB Host Controllers, (SiS, Standard, ect..)USB Open Host Controller, Advanced, Enable the function (Disable USB Error Detection).
With some motherboards you may need to install the newest version of the motherboard drivers and also may need to flash the BIOS.An example of this is VIA motherboards. The VIA or Apollo chipset boards require an update for their IRQ routing with windows. This update helps fix problems such as loss of data and such.
If you still cannot isolate USB to it’s own IRQ, changing the I/O range of USB sometimes works.
Possibly your last resort upgrading to USB by PCI/USB upgrade card is a recommended solution for systems with non-functioning onboard USB host controllers. Properly Installed the USB upgrade host controller should share the same IRQ as the onboard USB host controller. Check the motherboard manual or Manufacturers Web Site and install the new card into a PCI Slot that shares it's IRQ with USB. Do NOT disable USB in the BIOS as the upgrade card may not work if you do.
If that won't fix it, you may want to contact your mother board's manufacturer, or retailer who sold you the unoperable System components, to see if your System is under any kind of waranty/recall; then order a new motherboard and components...there is always the possibility you will  end up with same problem. Or you can contact a computer tech in your area. Goodluck...
    Misc Tips....
Check all Physical Connections (This includes: Motherboard mounting, cables, plugs, and visibly damaged components)...
Don't use cables longer than what you need, this can decreases efficiency and or causes System instability...
Check your Voltages in BIOS, and on your PSU (power supply unit); make sure your system is not underpowered...
Check your CPU/System Temperature, check airflow/fans, then check with your CPU manufacturer for acceptable settings...
Check BIOS, Drivers, Firmware, and Software for latest settings/updates...
Check Compatability (can find information in your Motherboard, BIOS, and Device Manuals...
Don't Overclock or Tweak settings you don't understand, unless you like the smell of toast...
And finally, don't me scared to ask... no one here will think less of you for seeking info/help from those who know...

Also if this has helped you or someone else in anyway please reply.

  • Problems transferring music from turntable to computer with Audigy 2ZS Plse He

I originally had Sound Blaster PC28. I have installed last year Audigy 2ZS with 6 analog plugs and updated regularly. Everything is fine from burning to playing music of any format allowed. However, last week I tried to transfer vinyl music to my computer using Sony Sound Forge Version 8 and nothing works. Here's what I did. Luxman Turntable connected with ground to LINE IN ( in DENON amp ) and in the AUX output I have 2 Monster cables boing to my computer twinned on goldplaited /8 jack which is connected to the second (from right) LINE IN in the sound card. This done while referring to Manual & Getting Started Demo Creative program in the software. NO SOUND AT ALL COMES IN the computer - while the music is playing qell on my audio system player. I've done all kind of adjustment with the Microsoft Volume Play & Recording Controls and with Creative Mixer.
I can only distinguish on Sony Sound Forge two volume bars that there is some faint connection fluttering . I still tried to record but upon playback, there is no visual waving lines illustrated in SoundForge window nor sound played back. I expected that. What am I doing wrong or is Audigy 2ZS not suitable for such ? FYI, I tried the other5 jacks on the sound car ( adjusting to WHAT U HEAR or LINE IN controls ) .
The infos in Creative manual and software demo show the 2nd jack of analog sound card from the right being used as a LINE IN for cassette, synthesizer & cd player ( Iguess it goes also for truntable ? - i tried with cd player and it does not work either ) Third jack from the right is only for microphone (also tried but does not work either) . Sorry for lenghty description, I tried all I could . Am retired 7 yrs old and i wish to transfer all my jazz vinyls to puter inorder to make cds. Kindest to All for your help. Merci beaucoup !

my music did not dowload to my new phone when I used itunes to transfer the to replacement phone i was sent.  how do you fix this?  where did the music go and how do you download it?

    Hello, LIGirl12.
Thank you for the question.  The first thing you want to do is check your music library in iTunes to see if your media is present.  If this media is there, then you can sync it back to the device.  I have attached an article that shows you how to syncing this media to your iPhone.  If the media is not present, you can download any past purchases to the computer by following the second article below.

  • Zen Touch 40 GB: problems transferring music files and playli

    Hi,
Creative Zen Touch 40 GB, one year old<
    [color="#330000">PlaysForSure Firmware 2..0<
    Creative MediaSource Organizer 5.0.38<
    Creative?Sync Manager 5.0.9.0<
    Windows XP Service Pack 2<
527?music (.wma) files on the player; 4205 MB of free space<
I'm finding it increasingly difficult to?transfer music files and playlists to my Zen Touch player now that the amount of free space on it has fallen below 5 GB. More often than not, it's necessary to put the player into Recovery mode, perform a clean-up, and then reboot and rebuild the library before Sync Manager works properly. I often need to repeat this process several times before I can transfer anything. Increasingly, too, Windows fails to detect the presence of the player when I connect it to my computer. Rebooting both the player and the computer usually fixes this issue. Transferring files by dragging and dropping in Windows Explorer is obviously much quicker than using Sync Manager, but here again I keep running into problems. It's as if the player freezes and refuses to take on-board any more files. Also, I can't find a way to transfer playlists except with Sync Manager. Are these known problems? I recalling running into similar issues with the Zen Touch 20 GB a few years ago. And could the fact that I'm doggedly using an old (998) and underpowered computer be an issue? I'm thinking of replacing the computer anyway, but is it likely that these synchronization problems would diminish or disappear altogether if I were to upgrade to something speedier? Thanks for any insights,Pete

I too have a simular problems! Managing music is the biggest problem with over 0 Gigs. Some artists songs sometimes change name titles, artists,?and etc. Win Explorer is most used by me now. Yes, I do lose sync from time to time! Especially when I open two windows on the portable zen. There are two tools that need. . Playlist management - it takes too long to do it on the player. I want to create "Gym Vibes" and had it on my old creative?Nomad player, but couldn't transfer. "Creative Sync Manager" doesn't do it!?Without all that sync stuff how can I create and edit creative's playlist on a PC?2. A method for detecting dupicates? This is my second creative portable and if I don't get the tools I won't buy another!

  • Problem transfering music/updating ipod

I recently moved and changed computers. My ipod had my library from home on it but i had a new library at my apt. i plugged my ipod in to see what kind of transfer there would be and it erased my ipod and filled it with the new library. then i went back home, and reversed it with my old library. finally, i had enough at my apt so once more i erased my ipod and built it with the library from my computer. today i tried to traditionally transfer music, adding music into my ipod. it would not update, it said it was finished updating but when i looked, none of the new songs were transfered into my ipod.... please help im so frustrated. ive tried reinstalling but that doesn't solve the problem.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
What you are trying to do is illegal. You cannot take your friend's music. That is one of the reasons for the message.
Also, even if legal, you cannot use iTunes to move music from iPod to computer.

  • Having problems transfering music to my Nano between laptop and desktop.

Recently my desk top PC broke down. I then got a Nano for my birthday (cool) so bought some podcasts and tracks from i-store and downloaded a small proportion of my cd collection using my laptop. For some reason it takes a couple of hours to download a cd into i-tunes. For that reason, now my PC is back with me I downloaded the rest of my cd collection onto the hard drive then transfered the music into the recently installed i-tunes.
Here's the problem, when I connected the nano to the PC for the first time I was asked if I wanted to replace the present library (laptop) with the new PC library. I want both as I don't see how to get the bought and paid for stuff off the laptop, onto my PC and then on to the Nano.
I can understand why this may of happened as you could just plug your i-pod/nano etc into someone elses laptop and bootleg their music but I don't want to have tp pay for my downloads twice. Can anyone help me out?

your iphone can only synce with one pc at a time, but when you want to add songs to your iphone for another pc, and you don't want to lose the data that you already have,
1- on your music store creat a new list(on your iphone)
    2-press synce
3- the songs that are on the pc, drag them to the play list you created and synce.
that is what i always do

  • Problems transfering music from external hard drive to ipod.

When I plug both ipod and external hard driver (WD 1600B014) into my Gateway laptop, only 1 device will work at a time with the other saying "usb device not recognised". This means I am unable to copy selected itunes songs onto my ipod.
This is driving me insane as I have 60gb of music on my hard drive which I want to chop and change frequently.
I have tried all manner of solutions including buying a powered usb hub (belkin) and starting a clean sheet with my laptop, installing all manner of new drivers for the usb ports.
I have the same problem with my 5G ipod 40gb.
I have tried the same problem on my dads desktop computer and the same problem arrises.
Does anyone have any answers as this has been driving me mad for ages and ages.
Is this a common thing or is it a problem with Western digital hard drives (although i thought they were a pretty big brand).
Any help would really be appreciated.

if I want to copy all those song files onto my iPod, they have to be copied into itunes first, and there's not nearly enough space on my desktop for that.
No, you don't have to copy the tracks to your internal hard drive. Just turn off the "copy music to iTunes Music Folder when adding" option in the iTunes Advanced preferences. Then use the "Add To Library" menu command and select the appropriate folder(s) on your external drive. iTunes will add the tracks to the Library but not move them to the internal drive.
Once that's done, use iTunes to transfer the music to the iPod. You can then, if iTunes is set for manual synchronization, remove the tracks from the Library if you want to remove the reference to the external drive.

  • Problem transfering music from itunes to iphone

Hi! Wondering if you could help: I can play in Itunes the music I download. But when i decide to transfer these songs from Itunes to my Iphone 4 by draging it, like I always did before, it doesn't work. By the way I just bought a new laptop and downloaded Itunes on it. Can someone tell me what could be the problem?

hi, your message is kind of old and you've probably already figured out how to transfer the music. i just read some of the replies to you and see that no one mentions the "Autofill" option so i wanted to let you know--just in case it might help you to do things a bit less complicated. i had the same problem with the new version of iTunes (11.0) and discovered the best way to transfer your music is to add it to your iTunes library like you usually do and click on the "Autofill" button at the bottom so the music is transferred without problems. You still won't get to keep your playlists (I know right? ******* genius whoever came up with this brilliant idea...) and you must make sure you're "auto-filling" the music from the recently added list, otherwise it will just transfer music from a different location.
i hope this helps! you can email me or PM me if you've got any other questions!
