Problems trying to import PPT

I have a very simple, 3 slide PowerPoint file saved as type
"PowerPoint 97-2003 Presentation". When I attempt to import it into
Captivate CS3, it "thinks" for about 3 minutes, then says I have
3,249 slides in the PPT. The slide previews are blank. If I attempt
to import any of the slides, they are blank. I have a screen shot
if needed.
What's going on here?

Hi Donger,
I just solved my problem with the import of PowerPoint
shows. I read a Tech Bulleting that says to re-install the Flash
player (see:
http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=f951a12a&sliceId=1
). I followed the steps outlined and now the timport - with all the
animation, works fine.
Hope this helps

  • Bizarre problem trying to import .MTS (AVCHD) files into PSE7 Organizer

    Hi
    b Summary of problem:
    *I recently upgraded to PSE 7 / PRE 7
*I am trying to import .MTS (AVCHD) files into the PSE7 Organizer
*I get a "...did not contain any supported file types..." error on attempted import
    b HOWEVER...
*I can edit same footage in PRE7
*This footage is automatically added to the Organizer
*I can play this footage in the PSE7 organizer but generating thumbnails takes ages
*Camera: Sony HDR SR12 producing .MTS files (full 1920x1080i HD)
    *PC: Intel Core i7 940 CPU, 6GB RAM, RADEON HD 4870 512MB
    *OS: Vista 64 bit
    b Detail:
I have recently upgraded my PRE/PSE bundle to ver 7 primarily because the new version of PRE boasts support for AVCHD.
Having installed the new software I quickly tried editing footage in PRE7 with video taken on my Sony HDR SR12 camera (footage taken in full 1920x1080i HD) and it works! Hoorah! I can now finally edit AVCHD footage in it's native format using PRE. Thank you Adobe!
But my joy was very shortlived because when I tried to import some other footage from the same batch into my PSE7 Video Catalog it wouldn't work. I got a pop up box containing the following error:
i "Nothing was imported. The file(s) or folder(s) selected to import did not contain any supported file types, or the files are already in the catalog."
Under this message is a list of the files that I tried to import. Next to each one there is a reason (it's the same reason for each clip):
i "Reason: The file is damaged or is a format that cannot be included in the Organizer."
To import files I use the following method: File / Get Photos and Videos / From Files and Folders
HOWEVER, the files that I imported directly into PRE7 in order to edit them have (surprise, surprise!) automatically been added PSE7 Organizer's Catalog. It takes a quite a while to generate a thumbnail for each clip but it does eventually do it and when it does I can play that footage in PSE7.
Just in case you're confused by this stage... If I try and manually add files to the PSE7 Organizer it doesn't work BUT if I edit that footage in PRE7 and then load the PSE7 Organizer I see the footage has been automatically added. This makes no sense whatsoever!
Am I doing something really stupid here? Why oh why will the PSE7 Organizer not import .MTS (AVCHD) files?!
NB: While searching for a solution to this problem I have, thanks to this Forum, found out about the K-Lite Codec Pack. I downloaded and installed the Basic pack v4.4.5 and now I can, at least, play my .MTS video files in Windows Media Player... I wish I had found out about that a couple of months ago because it would have saved me from buying Cyberlink PowerDVD 8!
Please someone help before I lose the plot.
    Thanks

    Hi
I'd just like to add an update to this post.
    b Summary:
*K-Lite Codec Pack clashes with Sony's Picture Motion Browser (PMB) software
*Analysis of video in Sony's PMB is well worth doing!
*You can Drag and Drop clips from Sony's PMB into PRE7
    b Detail:
As you've probably gathered I have now settled on using Sony's Picture Motion Browser (PMB) to Catalog all my video. Sorry Adobe to talk about someone elses product but the Adobe Organizer just can't cope with AVCHD footage no matter how you manage to import it! It's far too sluggish and my PC has an Intel Core i7 940 CPU with 6GB RAM and a 10,000 RPM HDD!
Anyway, in my first post you'll have read me raving about the K-Lite Codec Pack but sadly I've had to uninstall it because it kept on causing PMB to crash. PMB runs much smoother and quicker WITHOUT that codec pack. Something about it clashed with PMB. The once agile PMB became sluggish and unresponsive.
Having now removed the codec pack PMB is back to being agile and generaly lovely.
To view AVCHD footage outside of PMB I have reverted to using Cyberlink's PowerDVD 8 - there's always a pregnant pause between double-clicking on the clip and it playing but that's the only drawback.
If you are going to use Sony's PMB for cataloging your video collection (and I recommend you do so BUT only if you have AVCHD footage - otherwise stick to Adobe's Organiser) then I can fully recommend "Analyzing" all of your footage. This takes time and a bit of patience because it kept stopping for no apparent reason but would readily start up again (without having to do anything else) BUT once it's done it'll reward you with the following:
*Filter on any combination of Scenery, People, Smiles - e.g. with a click of a button you can isolate footage that contains smiles, etc
*Face Search - if you select some or all of the footage in the right-hand pane it will then put a small thumbnail for all of the different faces in that selected footage in the bottom "Face Search" pane. If you then click on one of those thumbnails it will jump to the clip(s) that contain that face and grey out all the other clips
*Expand Videos - This tool is brilliant! In normal viewing mode you get a thumbnail of the video whether you're in Folder view, Calender view or Detail List view. If, however, you select "Expand Videos" from the tool bar it will show you a series of frames contained within that clip. You can choose from "Highlights" or various regular intervals (5 secs, 10 sec, 30 sec, 1 min, etc). The Highlights option does a pretty good job of picking out the significant changes within the clip
Lastly, I have discovered that you can drag a clip from Sony's PMB into PRE7. It won't let you put it directly onto the Timeline but it will let you drop it into the Project file list (found under the Edit tab).
I do hope that this info has helped others like me who are trying to get to grips with editing and cataloging AVCHD footage.

    Henrik,
I've found other problems where OWB adds a space between all characters returned from SQL*Server which is what is happening in your case, although it is being displayed as a square box.
In one of these cases the problem was fixed by using the 11.2.0.2 OWB so would it be possible for you to try with that version ?
Also, as the problem is not with the gateway itself as you can select successfully using a database link then it would be better to follow up in the OWB forum -

I seem to be getting there now and have discovered the renaming presets on the right hand side of the import panel. It's actually all working rather well but I'd like to find out more about the various IPTC fields to see if there is more information I should be adding.

  • Problem trying to import a CD

I have a CD that, when I insert it into the CD drive, iTunes doesn't respond at all. It's the Bright Eyes - I'm Wide Awake It's Morning CD. I'm running iTunes 7.4 on a Windows machine. If I view the contents of the CD, I can see all 12 tracks, with a .cda filetype, but I can't get the CD to show up in iTunes at all. I've had no trouble importing tons of other CDs, and I'm guessing that this problem has to do with some setting by the record company. But I've never heard of a record company protecting the content in this way, so I don't know. Anybody know what's going on? Thanks.

Happens all the time and you are probably correct about cause.
Some CD manufacturers use various forms of copy protection on discs designed to interfere with computers reading the discs. I have found iTunes to be very picky about this too. I have had several discs iTunes would not acknowledge but could rip with another program. Other times the fix is as simple as cleaning the disc ro turning on error correction for the ripping process.

I have an iMac 27" and am trying to import some videos of a friends wedding into iMovie however one of the movies won't import. It doesn't say why or give any error message or codes.
All of the other movies on the card download with out a problem. The movie in question is not 'corrupt' as you can watch it in iMovie direct from the SD card but as soon as you try to import it, it  just says 'error'. iIve tried moving the file to an external drive ( and other variations on this theme) then importing but have had no luck.
    Can anyone please help me.

    The mystery remains....
Thanks for the pointers. The file type is .mts (a proprietry sony one).
I have now found some video converter software (Wondershare and iSkysoft) at a cost. Either will convert this file for me into .mp4. This I can then import into iMovie without any problems. I've checked this on the trial versions and it worked well but without paying am left with a giant watermark in the video
The mystery (which I still havent solved) is why did 20 other .mts files import fine and then this one not?
If you could point me in the direction of some free .mts converter software that would be the cherry on the cake.
    Thanks

I am trying to import cr2files from the camera into lightroom 5 and keep getting an error message saying Lightroom can not read the files and therefore will not import them.  Has anyone had a similar problem….thanks

If you are having the same problem, i.e. a disk permission problem, open your favorite search engine and search on, "change disk permissions", and I think you'll find plenty of information on how to fix the problem. This is a Lightroom forum. Your problem is with your operating system. There is no sense in rewriting instructions that are already available if you do a simple search.

Get a copy of MPEG Streamclip and convert your MPG file to QuickTime/Apple Intermediate Codec (AIC).  In FCE, select one of the setups that uses AIC that best matches your clip (say, 1920x1080i60).  Create a new sequence, then import the converted file.
Note that if your MPG file is actually MPEG2 you will also need the QuickTime MPEG2 Component in addition to MPEG Streamclip.
What was the source of the MPG file?  How about if you open it in QuickTime, then do Window > Show Movie Inspector.  Tell us what it says for codec/compression, frame size & frame rate.

  • Problems when trying to import metadata from SQL server using OWB

    Hi,
We are using Oracle 11.2 EE on AIX and OWB: 11.2. We are in the process testing Oracle Transparent gateway for SQL Server and have installed and configured it on a standalone windows server. We and have run the ORACLE_HOME\dg4msql\admin\dg4msql_cvw.sql on SQL Server side, in order to query the SQL-Server data dictionary. We have created a DB-link and can pull data correctly without any problems. When trying to import metadata in OWB Client on win xp, we have created a non-oracle SQL Server Module and are able to connect and start the import, but the displayed table names look strange and can not be imported. In front of every letter there is a square box, so instead of ADDRESS (the address table in the source system) , it reads "squarebox"A"squarebox"D"squarebox"D"squarebox"R"squarebox"E"squarebox"S"squarebox"S and subsequently the import fails with :API0413: Illegal name [<tablename>] Name with preceding and trailing spaces is not allowed.
The gateway have been configured with the following parameters:
    HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO=<connect string>
    HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL=OFF
    HS_FDS_RECOVERY_ACCOUNT=RECOVER
    HS_FDS_RECOVERY_PWD=RECOVER
    HS_LANGUAGE=AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8MSWIN1252
    Any ideas ?
This topic has been posted in the Heterogenious Forum as well, but as the problem is within OWB, I also post it here.
    Thanks in advance!

  • 'Audio to Video' problem when trying to import from non-controllable device

    Hello,
I am trying to import media from a VHS into FCP, using a 'Dazzle', (DAC from Data Video). In my Capture Settings, under Device Control, I selected 'Non-controllable device', and under the Capture/Input setting, I chose the default, 'DV STSC 48 khz', then did 'Capture Now'. It seemed to work fine, until about half-way through the project, I noticed that the sound did not match up to the people speaking/singing on the video. Should I change the Capture/Input setting to something else? Or, is there another setting I need to make, so that audio/video will match up? Also, should I maybe try a Batch Capture, instead of Capture Now? I just thought of that when writing this - any help would be most appreciated, thank you!
    Kristina

Ooooo.... Hate to say... Dazzle just has bad memories for me. Hollywood Bridge... made by Dazzle...
Nothing but problems. Not sure if yours is the same.
Anyway to use your camera as a passthru for the VCR instead?
Still -- no guarantees sync will line up. For that you need to capture in 15 minute or less segments. Hard to do with VHS that will run for 2 hours... but it's your best bet. Join them up in post if you have to.

Afraid Compressor won't work with MKV. If you have access to a system running an earlier version than Mavericks, and with Perian installed you can use MPEG Streamclip or Quick Time Pro to convert to a mov.

Trying to import a .mov file made with gotomeeting - no problems in past doing this. After 3 attempts recording the hour long video and trying to upload it to iMovie, it says No importable files -None of the selected files or folders can be imported. Change the selection and try again. What could the reason be?

After much research and troubleshooting, GoToMeeting replied with the final answer: We do not support the uploading of recordings to editing software. If you are having issues uploading a recording, unfortunately, we do not have tools or steps to resolve this. It is not a supported feature. I am sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
The no longer plan to support editing of recordings made with their software.  So, we are planning to find a new meeting provider.

  • Captivate imported PPT Accesibility problem

I have a Captivate file with an Imported PowerPoint which is reading all the ppt text in my screen reader when published, in the wrong order. I do not want the screen reader to read anything imported from PowerPoint, only what I write in the captivate accessible text. How do I stop it from reading the imported ppt text, but still read the accessible text that I have placed within captivate?

If you REALLY want more control over the screen reading order of your slides, I would suggest you are better off NOT using PPT to create them.  Build them from scratch in Captivate using native Cp objects.  Then you can manipulate the layering of all objects and set the tab order for interactive objects.

  • Importing .ppt or .avi

I'm trying to import the above mentioned file types into my
Captivate software, and it's not doing much of anything...I select
the file, click "Next" and for a split second a screen pops up that
I assume is a status screen, and then it goes away (it's not
hidden). The screen just sits there waiting for me to hit Next,
Canel or Help. I've tried all kinds of "stupid user tricks"
like pressing and holding "Next", etc., and the best
I can get is a glimpse of the picture of a pie that has 1 or two
pieces filled in, and then the same thing as above. Has anyone else
run into this problem, and have any suggestions what the problem
may be and/or what I can do to fix it. I understand that the
problem with the .avi files could be with codecs, but it's doing
the EXACT same thing with .ppt files, so I'm not sure it's really a
    codecs thing...Thanks!

Hi abhunter and welcome to our community
    Sorry for the delayed reply.
I'm wondering if you are simply seeing a "rights issue". We
frequently see this when trying to import PowerPoint. Can't say as
I've ever heard of an issue bringing in .AVI and whatnot. I do know
.AVI is dependent on proper CODECs, so I suppose that issue could
    be at play too.

  • Importing PPT

I am trying to import slide from PPT 2003 to Captivate 3. The
majority of it works well but I am having some problems with the
    animations. Example:
In PPT slide there is an image and a thought bubbleon screen.
When the user clicks, the thought bubble for that character
disappears and another image & thought bubble appears. When I
import into Captivate, the first autoshape disappears as soon as
you get to the slide and then rest of the objects appear. I need
this to wait until the user clicks so they have time to read the
    text.
For now, I have found a workaround, but it is not the best. I
have included a transparent text box on the screen and set the
custom animation for it to appear on click with a 4 second delay
then the autoshape/text disappears with it and the rest of the
objects appear. The big problem with this workaround is that it
automatically plays the animations. The 4 second delay might be too
quick for some and is definitely too slow for me.
    Any suggestions?

    No question, "
Intrigante89", the saving of transitions and objects from
your PPTs leave a great deal to be desired in the import to
Captivate 3 and earlier. Your idea of adding the transparent
caption is as good as any, I suppose, so good for you and your
    imagination.
Beyond that, all I can suggest is that when Captivate 4 is
available publicly, download the trial copy and take it for a spin.
The importing of Power Point projects is much improved, I
understand, so the upgrade might be a worthwhile expense for you,
    just for that improvement.
    All the best!
