Problems trying to install Leopard

Hey Guys, I just purchased Leopard yesterday and was trying to install it today when I encountered a few problems. First it was telling me that I needed to reformat my drive before it would let me install it. I went to the start up menu so that I could restart my computer using my HD instead of the disk, and when it got to the apple screen, it just shuts down! I tried using my leopard disk and powering it on, but it still shuts down at the apple screen...Did I do something wrong?? I hope my computer isn't dead...

hi im having huge problems trying to install flash for my mac 10.5 imac, iv gone through the internet and tried all of the solutions, everytime i try to install flash it says cant read the download file, or it just wont install, anybody plz help!
iv unistalled flash, iv checked plug ins it just wont work,

It would have been a great help to know precisely what Mac you have, so some of the following may not apply:
You can check here:  http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/  to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS. Note that version 10,1,102,64 is the last version available to PPC Mac users*. The latest version,10.3.183.23 or later, is for Intel Macs only running Tiger or Leopard, as Adobe no longer support the PPC platform. Version 11.4.402.265 or later is for Snow Leopard onwards.
(If you are running Mavericks: After years of fighting malware and exploits facilitated through Adobe's Flash Player, the company is taking advantage of Apple's new App Sandbox feature to restrict malicious code from running outside of Safari in OS X Mavericks.)
    * Unhelpfully, if you want the last version for PPC (G4 or G5) Macs, you need to go here:  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/142/tn_14266.html  and scroll down to 'Archived Versions/Older Archives'. Flash Player 10.1.102.64 is the one you download. More information here:  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/838/cpsid_83808.html
You should first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/909/cpsid_90906.html
and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications (including Safari) first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe.
After installing, reboot your Mac and relaunch Safari, then in Safari Preferences/Security enable ‘Allow Plugins’. If you are running 10.6.8 or later:
When you have installed the latest version of Flash, relaunch Safari and test.
If you're getting a "blocked plug-in" error, then in System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
click Check Now. Quit and relaunch your browser.
You can also try these illustrated instructions from C F McBlob to perform a full "clean install", which will resolve the "Blocked Plug-in" message when trying to update via the GUI updater from Adobe.
Use the FULL installer for 12.0.0.44:  Flash Player 12 (Mac OS X)
And the instructons are here: Snow Leopard Clean Install.pdf
(If you are running a PPC Mac with Flash Player 10.1.102.64 and are having problems with watching videos on FaceBook or other sites, try the following solution which fools the site into thinking that you are running the version 11.5.502.55:)
Download this http://scriptogr.am/nordkril/post/adobe-flash-11.5-for-powerpc to your desktop, unzip it, and replace the current Flash Player plug-in which is in your main/Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder, (not the user Library). Save the old one just in case this one doesn't work.

  • Trying to install Leopard server on my Mac mini

I'm a registered Apple Select Developer and I'm trying to install Leopard Server on a Mac mini I just picked up the other day. Is there a way to do this using the image or do I have to burn a DVD in order to do the install? The image is over 5GB's so I'd need to get a dual layer disk.

Is this just for a test?
If so you can create 3 partitions, one a bootable volume the second partition a place to restore the Leopard image and the third partition to install the new software you restored on the second partition. You do loose two small volumes temporarily, but you can make them relatively small since these are only used for installation purposes. The details can be found on the developer site under " leopardclient_9a377a_seednote.rtf".
I've done this on older machines with no CD players installed.

  • HT2956 Trying to install Leopard on my iBookG4

Trying to install Leopard on my iBookG4, but I get a msg that "The installer could not validate the contents of the 'AdditionalSpeechVoices' package."  Can't I just make it skip that package and install the rest somehow?

I believe it is possible to do a custom installation, but I don't know if you can isolate a component that may be regarded as "essential" by the operating system.  Usually a custom installation is if some otherwise optional component such as an old version of iTunes is not wanted for installation.
You could try making a backup copy of the DVD and installing from that.  Suggestions on how to do that are here:  http://creativebits.org/mac_os_x/make_a_dvd_copy_of_mac_os_x_tiger  Note, you will probably need a dual layer DVD, not the more common single layer.

  • Tried to install Leopard on macbook also running windows

Tried to install leopard on an intel macbook with a partitioned hard drive to run windows. Not only would it not install leopard, but now it won't even recognize any of the original install dvd's. Not sure what to do next...

You didn't mention what OS you were running. If 10.7 or above, boot into the Recovery Partition (command - R on a restart) and run Disk Utility/Repair Disk/Repair permissions until you get no error. Reboot normally and see if the installation will finish.
If you were running10.6, boot off the DVD and do the above.

  • Problem trying to install XP via Boot Camp, computer almost died

    Hi there,
I just recently purchased a 24" 2.8Ghz intel iMac 500GB harddrive with OS X 10.5.2. I plugged everything together yesterday morning and the computer was going fine, just liek a dream. On a side note I was genuinely impressed with the ease of setting up and how quick, intuitive and reliable the mac and OS X Leopard was.
This is a bit long but I think I need to go into detail what happened in order for any of you to fully understand what happened to my mac.
Later in the afternoon I decided to install Win XP via Boot Camp. I knew that XP SP2 or later and VISTA was recommended but I decided to use my XP Home Edition "2002 version" install disc instead.
I opened up the Boot Camp Assistant, partitioned 15GB of the 500GB harddrive, inserted WinXP install disc and the computer restarted with everything going to plan thus far. I was going through the install process as normal but I came to a window asking which partition to use to install XP ("c" or "d") or if I wanted to create another partition. I also had my iPod still connected to the computer and I think the installation recognised that harddrive too (all 12GB of space left on my iPod). I wasn't sure what to do so I decided to quit the install process by pressing the relevent keys ("press F3 to quit" etc). Upon automatically restarting the computer I first came to a white screen for about1 or so minutes and then a black screen came up with white text asking me to "press any key to 'something' the CD" (can't remember what the rest of the text was), but the keyboard was unresponsive. I turned the computer off and unplugged it as according to the instruction manual that came with the mac, waited the suggested 5-6 seconds, turned it back on but I came across the same screens. I couldn't eject the XP install disc either. I restarted the computer again, held down the eject button whilst restarting, the disc thankfully ejected but I then came across the same black screen but with no text, just a white flashing underscore cursor. I decided to remove my iPod and restart the computer again. AGAIN I came across the same white screen, then black screen with the flashing white underscore cursor and unresponsive keyboard. I decided to insert the OS X install disc 1 (I don't remember if I inserted it whilst at the black screen or if I restarted the computer and THEN inserted the OS X install disc). The disc loaded slowly but I eventually went through the install process (choosing your language) and then came across a window asking me "Where would you like to install OS X?" but I couldn't install it anywhere. I opened "disk utility" or some program with the word "disk" in it, had no idea what I was doing, somehow created a new volume (though I thought I was actually erasing the XP partition I set up earlier) but in MS-DOS FAT Format or something. I then was able to choose a place (or volume) to install OS X but I had to change the format of the untitled volume from FAT to something along the lines of "Mac OS X journaled (enabled)" (whatever that means). There were other format options available but I just chose the top one on the list (Mac OS X journaled (enabled)). I then made a full install of OS X 10.5.2 and late last night downloaded the latest pdate for Leopard (10.5.4) along with other updates. The computer is working fine now thankfully andeverything seems to be back to normal.
I just want to know what actually happened. What did happen to my computer? Did I somehow wipe the harddrive? Why didn't the computer reboot to HDD when I ejected the WinXP install disc? Which format is the HDD formatted to? What does "Mac OS X journaled (enabled)" mean? Also how come my HDD is 500GB whereas when I checked Boot Camp Asistant a second time (but not installing Win XP again) My HDD is 460GB with 440GB of available space? Is there still another partition I am unable to see? Is there an extra 40GB of data floating around the harddrive that I'm unaware of? What are the factory settings for my computer? I really hope I haven't formatted the disk and installed the OS to settings that weren't like how the computer was originally set BEFORE I regrettably tried to install WinXP via Boot Camp.
If anyone could respond or give me some sort of advice, explanation or help I would very much appreciate your assistance.
    Cheers.

According to wiki "the documentation from Apple states that Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Windows Vista is requisite for a Boot Camp installation, and it also mentions that trying to install an unsupported operating system could prevent the computer from booting even into Mac OS X". Sure that was from wiki, but it does seem to support and somewhat validate the problem I had with installing an earlier edition of XP.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BootCamp_%28software%29#Other_operatingsystems
Thanks for the info on the Filesystem info. My problem is that installing OS X on a mac is just a little bit more technical than installing Windows on a PC as there are a few more things to consider. Plus I'm not familiar with any of the utility programs as well. It's a **** miracle I managed to somehow create a volume to install OS X on when I thought I was erasing the partition I created for WinXP.
But I'm still not sure about the missing 40GB from my 500GB HDD. Upon coming to the desktop straight after OS X was fully re-installed I noticed that the HDD only had 460GB and that 440GB of it available space. So the full installation of OS X was 20GB, but where has the other 40GB gone? I swear I saw that I had much more available space on my harddrive (BEFORE I tried to partition my HDD under Boot Camp Assistant and stuffing up the computer). Is the missing 40GB from the ORIGINAL FACTORY INSTALL of OS X INCLUDING all my iTunes music and other files I uploaded to the computer earlier? It would make sense but there's no way, as far as I know, of checking this. Any ideas?
    Cheers.

  • Help!!!! trying to install leopard on a powermac g5 tower

ok im new here and i would like to get some kind of help. i have a powermac g5 tower that is been giving me alot of problems. i currently have 10.4.11 and trying to upgrade to leopard. but every time i do the install process it quits on me and tells me the source media is bad try to install again or restart it. i did that already and still no go. so i contacted the apple people and they first tell me that my opitical drive was bad so i go ahead and replace it. still gives me the error message. ok so i call again they tell me ok that my hd is bad i need to replace it. ok so i being the dummy and listening to them go buy a hd and try to install it once again nope still gives me the error message so i call them again and they tell me ok that i need mac os tiger and the leopard should just install fine. nope i bought tiger for cheap on ebay and nothing no luck i cant get to work i keep on getting the message that the source media is bad and i need a new disk . so im really confused as to why i cant get leopard to install in to my g5.
p.s. i do have another copy of leopard because the mac people taught that my disk was bad but i know for a fact that the one that they sent me is not bad also.
    p.s.s .
please help me to try to fix this problem thanks

sorry about the late answer. but i do not have the tiger cd like the one in the picture mine is gray and it says on the dvd for g3g4g5 install dvd. also the leopard cd has the big x on the dvd. i called once again the apple people to see if they can help me now they tell me that my ram is bad. so first they told me my optical drive was bad. then my hard drive, then my video card was not right. then i needed mac os tiger to install leopard. so now i need ram. also all the plugs for the optical drive are installed right and the hard drive also installed right. and i tell them the specs and they tell me they are more then fine for leopard. so now im going to purchase some new ram to see what happens. also is it true that mac os leopard needs original apple ram to work. i keep on reading about that

  • Trying to install Leopard...

    Hi there,
I just bought a new macbook 13" so decided to give my older iMac G5 to my sister for christmas and at the same time to update it to Leopard. Since the iMac was unable to read from Leopard's double-layer dvd, I decided to try installing it from my macbook and found like many others that it won't let you install it since it asks to format the hd to GUID even if the cpu is an apple one. I kinda found a way to make it work:
I started my macbook as an external drive with the Leopard DVD in and booted the iMac (that i had previously erased).
The iMac then starts from the dvd that's in the Macbook (Leopard).
I started installing Leopard, looked like it was working fine until I got this error telling me that there was an error with BaseSystem.
I tried again twice, same problem.
Tried reinstalling Mac OS 10.4 and also 10.3.5, still the same kind of problem during the installation but not confirming or not that it has something to do with Base System anything else.
Now, I'm stuck with an iMac that is not even 3 years old on which I can't install a system. I've tried re-formatting everytime I re-installed for every OS. Still the same problem. Everything seems alright hardware wise, I had no problem before trying this. Smart is verified for the HD.
One thing I need to say, before I found out the whole GUID thing between Intel-based and PPC, I installed Leopard from the Macbook to the iMac with no problem, worked perfect and even booted it from the Macbook, it was working perfect, so I doubt it is a problem with my cd's/dvd's.
I have no idea of what to do now...
    Anyone?
    Thanks!
    Frank

It doesn't work with a USB ext. drive, can't boot from it.
Installing Leopard from Macbook as an ext. drive to iMac: error.
Installing Tiger from Macbook as an ext. drive to iMac: error, please retry/restart.
Installing Tiger from iMac: error, please retry/restart.
    Installing Panther from iMac: error.
I have no idea what to do now, I can't install Leopard on an ext. drive from my Macbook since it wants me to format it as GUID and I need it to be formatted as APM for it to work on my iMac.
    Solutions I thought of:
1- Buy an external dvd drive to plug in my iMac. Don't know if it would work though, because that's pretty much what my Macbook does when I try installing Leopard from it while it runs as an external drive plugged into my iMac.
2- Buy an external firewire HD drive and find an old iMac (not intel) that reads double-layer dvd (or just plug it in my macbook again to use it as an external dvd drive) and try installing Leopard on that ext. HD drive (which should work, I wouldn't see why not). Then, I could try to restore Leopard from the ext. drive to my iMac, or just try installing Leopard from the ext. drive to my iMac.
Can it be a memory problem, i've seen that somewhere else, but I don't get the same kind of problem. Others have their computer crash, or get a blue screen after succesful installation.
Any further help would be greatly appreciated,
    Thanks,
    Frank

  • New iMAC. TRIED TO INSTALL LEOPARD. EJECTS CD. WON'T BOOT OFF INSTALL CD

WHAT A NIGHTMARE!New iMac came today-- with antique software. Tiger installed from factory-- and way out of date. Leopard DVD included in box-- tried to install- just keeps ejecting the CD when trying to do the reboot. 2.5 hours on the phone with overseas Apple support (ha!)-- machine will not boot from install CD's (either Leopard or Tiger). Keeps ejecting the cd.
What crap. ANybody else have this problem? I bought a mac because I didn't want to fight sw issues. Boy was this a mistake.
Any advice appreciated, or I'm sending the POS back to Apple get a refund and buy a Dell.

    l8_apexer wrote:
what would you think of ordering a machine based on seeing it demoed with Leopard-- only to have it shipped from the factory in China with Tiger-- and first thing it does is look for softwre updates-- and find over 150MB of updates it wants to install-- -within its first 15 minutes of being powered up????
If that's not shipping a machine with old software- I don't know what is.
What's the fuss about apple anyway? Shipping machines that don't have current sw loaded, won't boot from install DVDs, and then tell the customer that it will take two weeks to replace the unit-- or I can drive to an APple store (with gas at 3.25 a gallon which is an hour away) and maybe they can fix it, but not sure if the parts are available?
Has anybody else had this problem?
I would ask for a new machine with Leopard pre-installed which is what you expected to get and paid for. I can only assume it's an older machine since the new ones do come with Leopard installed.
My opinion, for what it's worth is to return it and ask for the new Leopard version.

  • Weird problem trying to install XP using Boot Camp 3.0.1

    Hi everyone, first post here.
I have been trying to install XP in my Mac Pro using Boot Camp and a very strange thing happened. I created the partition allright, I inserted my Windows XP cd, hit install, the computer restarted and that´s when it froze. What actually happened is that it got to the gray screen stage, the apple appeared on screen, and then the apple symbol started to shuffle between a "forbidden" symbol and an icon of a folder with a question mark on it.
I rebooted, and held alt key. It found the mac hd (from which it boots just fine if I selected) and my windows cd. If I select the windows cd, I get again the apple symbol and after some time it´s start to shuffle again between the three icons. I have tried to delete the partition, re-did all the steps and every time happens the exact same thing.
I have looked through many threads reporting problems with boot camp, but I haven´t found one that describes this specific problem. If there is such, please point me to it. Otherwise, anyone has any ideas?
Thank you very much for your help.

No, I did not get a solve. Actually, my problem worsened. I tried it again, but this time the computer wouldn´t detect my alu keyboard, hence I couldn´t select a drive to tell the bloody thing where to boot from. That is weird, because at the time I opened this thread it did work. I actually had to borrow a wired keyboard so I could hit alt and get it to work.
At the moment I am not so keen on trying it again......

  • Trying to install Leopard on a fresh hard drive

    UGGGH.... Mindbending problem here.
I've got a two year old Macbook. It was acting very strange (total reinstall of Leopard resulted in some random old programs showing up in new OS), and for a variety of reasons Apple told me aI needed a new hard drive. Since it was out of warranty I bought one myself and installed it.
I install it fine, load from a DIFFERENT Macbook's Leopard Install Disc One (I can't find my original Tiger one) and it gets to the install screen. I select English as my language. It says "Installing software" for two seconds before it says "Mac OS X can not be installed on this computer". That's it. It brings be to the normal Leopard install menu. I run Disc Doctor or whatever it's called, it says the hard drive is fine. I formatted it and named it "Macintosh HD". Still doesn't work. Every time I try to boot from this DVD it says OS X can't be installed. Most frustrating error message ever. I have Time Machine, so I connect to my network and try to install from a Time Machine backup, no luck.
What's worse, I have a spare Leopard DVD install disc from when I originally upgraded from Tiger without a problem last year. I put it in the Macbook's DVD drive, hold down C, and it won't boot from it. It just reads the disc, sits there for a second, and ejects the disc. EVERY TIME.
So this Leopard Install Disc One that came with a different Macbook tells me OS X can't be installed. The regular Leopard DVD keeps getting ejected when I try to boot from it.
What the **** is going on with this thing?

you can't use an install disk that came with a different computer. It's hardware specific and it won't work as you've found out. It's also against ULA. You need to use a retail version of leopard DVD. it sounds like the one you've used before is defective. just in case try cleaning the old leopard disk and using it again. also, try cleaning your DVD drive. you can get a DVD cleaner (it's a disk with brushes at the bottom). if all of this fails get a new leopard install DVD.
P.S.since you have access to another macbook, try booting it from your old leopard DVD. If it boots, boot your macbook in target mode, connect it to the other one and install leopard from there.

  • A extremely weird and crazy problems trying to install Quicktime

For the last couple of hours I've tried every angle to try to fix this problem. Now the crazyiest part of this is not only can I not install Quicktime but I can't even download a file that has "quicktime" in the name. If I try to download any version of Quicktime that has "Quicktime"(all of them) in the name, it finishes and I try to open it, and I get a msg "(filename) doesn't exist. It may have been renamed, moved or deleted...". So the only way I can download the installers is if I change the name to something random, I get the error msg even if I rename the file "QU".
The main issue is when I try to install Quicktime, with Itunes or Standalone I get a runtime error "This application has requested to terminate in a ununsual way" I have searched the forum and have tried every fix, from Regedits to virus scans you name it. I went to oldversions.com and I couldn't even download version 3.
The other crazy part is that after i get the runtime error message and hit "ok" Quicktime completely disappears from my computer. On some of the older versions I don't get a error msg, it installs, I hit "finish" then I try to go where I installed it to and every single time it disappears, i've tried to install it on the Desktop, external harddrives, etc. but its never their. I'm usually able to fix problems like this but this one is just unbelievable so I more then appeciate any help I can get with this, thanks.

    Pasucal:
The behavior you are seing suggests a virus or system corruption of some kind. The best way to get back up and running may be to perform a repair installation of Windows. There are steps for performing a repair installation of Windows XP on the Microsoft support site here. There are several other sites on the web that have more information about Windows repair installs. Here is one you might want to review.
Keep in mind that repairing Windows will not remove malicious programs from your computer. After the repair, you will need to update and run a full scan with known-good anti-virus software.
