Problems updating N95 firmware - v11 to v20 (vodaf...

Hi,
I have N95 on Vodafone UK, currently running software version 11.0.0.026. and a windows vista sp1 laptop.
I often use software updater to check if any new versions for my n95. To my delight, version 20 has just been released for my region! So I tried to run the update.
It downloaded from the net ok, then started the install on the phone.
But then, I got an error message saying a Nokia element has stopped responding.
The software updater still looks as if its running ok tho, except the progress bar is stuck on about 5% and estimated time remains on 15 minutes. I even left it for about 40 minutes, but still no change.
I tried a couple of times but with same result.
Luckily, once unplugged and battery removed and replaced, the phone started up as normal.
Any ideas why it keeps crashing, or a way to fix it?
Thanks,
Ed

I had exactly the same problem as well.
The first time it happened, I assumed I'd 'bricked' my phone but it seemed to come back to life so I thought great.
The second time I attempted the upgrade, the same thing happened but instead of disconnecting. I closed down the updater using task manager then ran it again.... it immediately detected the phone then asked me if i wanted to re-install the software. I said yes and it worked fine.
It is a strange bug though. I am glad it's not just me it happened too.

  • N95 photo shooting problem with new firmware V11

I have got a problem with photo shooting after upgrading my N95 (Product Code: 0534832) to the new firmware (v11.0.026) via Nokia Software Updater.
Before upgrading the firmware, I can turn off the loud and ugly snapping sound when shooting a photo; all I need to do is to change to Silent Profile (that has Warning tones OFF). But it seems that I can no longer turn that ugly sound off with the new firmware!
Is that a bug? Is there another way I can turn the sound off?

Actually I have 2 N95 phones, one is my GFs, both of them are bought and used in Hong Kong.
The way I test the differences between versions is directly comparing each feature with the two phones, where the one with new firmware has product code #0534832, and the one with old firmware has product code #0548445. Both of them has www.nokia.com.hk printed on the box and manuals, so I assume local law is not an issue.
By the way, I have just discovered that the one with product code #0548445 cannot update via Nokia Software Updater.

  • Updating N95 Firmware! Some important questions

My N95 is currently running on V20.0.013. A major improvement in update were found in V20.0.015. Now a days the latest firmware is V21.0.016.
Q1. If I update my N95 to 21.0.016, then would I get all the improved features of V20.0.015 as well or should I update my N95 step wise, i.e., first to 20.0.015 and then 21.0.016 to have all improvements. In V20.0.015, there were improvements in menu structure.
Q2. I have pre-installed multi language dictionary on microSD card provided in the sale package. If I update my N95 to V21.0.016, would this dictionary still work or I have to re-install it again?
Q3. Is there any problems which anyone encountered after updating N95 to V21.0.016? Any draw backs of this latest V21.0.016 software?
I totally depend upon you technical guys, and always get satisfied with the nice cooperation of this forum members. I hope you'll guide me this time as well.
    Regards to all

    Hi erehman,
    Some answers to you here.
A1. A new firmware will always wipe out everything in the phone memory. Absolutely no need to update first to 20.0.015. Go straight to 21.0.016.
But the previous firmware to 20.0.15 was 13.0.003.
A2. After an update of a firmware you need to reinstall everything. The memory card, though, is not affected and you do not even have to keep it in.
A3. There may be some problems or odd functions, but all together the 21 firmware is better than the 20 firmware.

  • Updating N95 firmware

i have an N95 and when i try and update the firmware, it says i have the current update of 10.2.006. can anyone help as to why this is so and can the update be done manually?

    http://www.nowwearetalking.com.au/discussions/all-discussions/telstras-transformation?p=166#eff8d22a...
I have a Nokia N95-3 purchased 6 months ago through Telstra & connected on the NextG network. I'm very happy with both the product & service, but I have a concern. The software version for my N95 is 10.2.06 from the 22/08/2007. Nokia announced its fourth software upgrade for the N95 since then last month- v30.0.015- but this & previous updates are not available to users of the N95-3 branded/locked by Telstra. A month earlier, there was some chatter on other Australian Telecommunications forums that Telstra might finally be releasing the prior v20.x software for its customer's branded/locked N95s after some final revisions & testing. There has been more chatter since by some of those customers attempting to check the progress of this with both Nokia Australia & Telstra, and few answers forthcoming (apart from some advice to apparently "Ask Sol" which I'll take with a grain of salt. I can appreciate that both Telstra & Nokia share the responsibility for the availability of these updates to Telstra users of their products- however, perhaps Telstra would do well to make more easily accessible the status of its testing & the advice of availability (or reasons for their non-availability) of these updates & others offered by manufacturers of mobile devices branded/locked to its network. As you already have forums for the iPhone & Blackberry products on this site, it would seem a small matter to create a few more for the other device manufacturers, in which the Team Leaders or Managers overseeing such projects at Telstra could communicate progress & field questions from customers. To my mind, this would be in keeping of Telstra's Customer.Focus in it's goals for Transformation. If I may speak on other's behalf, we would appreciate your consideration in this matter. Thanks for your time!

Obviously I'm not holding my breath, but a few more posts there supporting the idea might prove productive.....?

  • Problem updating the Firmware on a PCI-7334

About me: I am pretty new to the Labview/NI landscape so I may be missing something here! That said im very technically aware in general and believe I understand what is going on here.
Background: This NI PCI-7334 board has been taken from currently unused project stock so current physical condition of board is not really known (ie was not recently working) although it appears to be in good physical order.
Attempting to setup a new Labview 7 Express development environment on new PC hardware with a clean build of Windows XP Pro SP1 along with 1 x IMAQ PCI-1411 and 1 x IMAQ PCI-1408.
Attempting to update the PCI-7334 with the latest firmware in NI Motion 6.1.2. I select the option "Update All Firmware Sectors" f
rom the firmware tree by right mouse clicking. It starts off with the buttonless (ie No Cancel Button) file transfer progress dialog box. But after about 30 seconds I keep getting the error "Error configuring the board for download. Please ensure that the board is in a reset state and that no other application is communicating with it."
Existing Firmware versions are listed in NiMAX as:
    68331 - 6.00.3012
    DSP - 6.00.3008
    FPGA1 - [BLANK*]
    FPGA2 - [BLANK*]
*Listed in tree without a version
Unusually under the General listing I get "0" for the device serial number!
When I go into the "Status" area and choose the "Reset Device" option I eventually get these status lights (red):
    Ready to Receive
    Power Up Reset
    Modal Error Message
    0x80 Move Complete Status
I have tried removing all other cards from the PC to ensure there is not a compatability issue.
At this stage it would appear that it is a hardware problem so I was wondering what options I have available to g
et this card repaired. Is repair by NI economically viable or is a new puchase a better approach? IE are repairs done at a fixed price or based on materials and labour?
    Please advise!
    Thanks, Rod.

I agree with your diagnostics. It looks like something went wrong during the last firmware update. The only solution for this problem is to send the board for repair.
NI has fixed prices for repairs which are much cheaper than buying a new board. Please contact your local NI branch for details.

  • Updated N95 Firmware

I finally got round to updating my firmware to the latest one hoping it would stop my N95 from restarting every time but sadly it hasnt.
It has definally speeded up and I thought i'd cracked it untill I started filming something and it restarted, it then restared whilst using wi-fi and then while playing the new ngage game that was installed. It has restarted 5 times since 4 hours ago when I updated.
Was that my last hope of sorting out the phone?

  • Can't update N95 firmware as USB connection isn't ...

I'm currently trying to update the firmware on my N95. I have installed the latest version and even reinstalled the latest version of the USB cable driver.
But although PC Suite sees and communicates with the phone via the USB cable (Bluetooth is switched off as a connection method), the Nokia Software Updater keeps failing to detect the phone.
I have tried it with and without PC Suite running, I have tried it on different USB ports, I have tried plugging in the cable before the detection process and during it...but it will not detect the phone.
Everything else about the phone seems to be working correctly. Anyone have any ideas?

uninstall the PC Suites & Nokia Connectivity driver. and then download the PC Suite Cleanup from Nokia site. Install & run it.
Reboot computer & re-install the current PC Suites, wait until prompted to to connect whatever you have chosen(Cable or blue tooth, whatever). Download the latest software updater!
Knowledge not shared is knowledge wasted!

  • Is it really vital to update N95 Firmware? Come up...

Is it really important to update N95 all the time to the latest firmware version?
What have those gained who updated to latest version, and what have those lost who are using the previous versions.
Is it really worth considering to update N95 while taking into account all the risks of phone turning into brick during process, non-functionality of all the previously installed 3rd Party software, and many more complications?
Does the new software really bring about dramatic changes to the N95 stability, start-up timings of the Java applications, improved menu structure, battery life etc. The presence of Flash Lite 3 may not be the key factor in updating N95.
What are the main plus points for N95 users to update their phones and
what are the main negative points that they should not go to update.
Please take part to discuss your good/ bad experiences in this regard in order to make other N95 users clear as to what should be done.
    Regards
    Ejaz

I used NSU to get 21.0.016 and I am happy I did it. The biggest improvement was with the WLAN connection, the old fw often failed to find my hidden home network, new fw has never missed it.
Previously the browser couldn't load webpages that were more than about 1.5mb and often crashed with multiple windows open, but now the browser works just fine with 4mb pages and multiple windows.
The only 3rd party sw that I had paid for was a game (Medal of Honor - what a waste of money that was) and that still works, but I did lose some of the free apps I had installed.
So yes, if you use the browser a lot over wlan than I'd say it's vital.
All those who believe in psychokinesis raise my hand.

  • Do not update N95 to v11

To one and all do not update your nokia n95 to version 11

night mode with flash produce very good photos
video mode is improved in night mode

i have not found a way to open pages manually, only by clicking a link can i open more than one page(not anymore on my n95)
I get the feeling this has been done deliberately to sort out some of the pop up issues people where encountering judging from the changes to the SDK webkit at http://opensource.nokia.com/projects/S60browser/index.html

  • CR52-A4 - Problem updating the firmware

    Hello,
I've just bought a CD-RW (CR52-A4) and it seems not to be able to recognize some CD-RW (Nero InfoTool reports some CD-RW 10x as 4x and some CD-R 52x as 16x). My firmware is 1.10 and I'm using Live Update to upload 2.20. When I use Windows I get a popup error windows "Send Data to Device Error") and when I try the DOS boot disk with the same firmware I have a similar error (Write Buffer Error).
Does someone have the same problem? (and the solution ;-)
On Linux too, CD speeds are not correctly detected (BTW, are there Linux software to upgrade the firmware?).
    Thanks,
    Christophe.

Does this happens to all types of media that's placed in the system or only a few types only?
This happens at least to all types of media I have tried. (3 different kinds of CD-RW and 1 kind of CD-R)

every time i start updating my n95 it shows me a massage  sayin, memory needed 256mb.thats y i cant update my phone.so please help me.please

  • Problem updating iPod firmware 1.2: can't find firmware

    Hi everybody!
I just downloaded the latest version of iTune (7) and tried to update my iPod video, but, after connecting my iPod to the PC, when iTune ask me if I want to (more or less) "update your iPod firmware to 1.2" and I press "yes" a error message pops up saying: (more or less) "updating error: cannot find the firmware".
What does it mean?? I think it should download the firmware first...hmmm
    any help will be appreciated!

I'm having the exact same problem and tried following the advice from apple for if the firmware file was corrupt (running chkdsk and then delete the firmware files so the next time iTunes starts it will supposedly download them so you can update) but none of this worked and i still get the same error message. And i can't find a help article for if iTunes can't find the firmware files.
Help us people! I hate how apple gives us iTunes 7 with no freakin' support!!!

  • Problem updating new firmware available for Z2 Tablet Wifi

So finally my Xperia Z2 Tablet Wifi, notify me there is update for 17.1.1.A.0.402. But the catch is need to be connect to the computer to do the updates. I re-download PC Companion many times (http://www.sonymobile.com/ca-en/tools/pc-companion/) as mention every thread. And yet it still saying PC Companion must be updated. and it does not provide way to update it.
My PC companion is version 2.1 as far I can tell. Is the website still running on software???
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I was fighting this issue with the addition of the Tablet not being recognised and looping between PC Companion telling me that it did not see the tablet, and then that it needed to update PC Companion... despite me updating it twice now. I called Sony Support who sent me directions to getting it updated. Unfortunately, it wiped my tablet to default. Lost everything in it, but it was not a surprise and it tells you that at every juncture. I pasted the directions in this message. Good luck! ----------------------- --------- We have an extended guide that should help you fix the issue on your phone, please follow the instructions carefully: Visit this link: http://www.sonymobile.com/us/tools/pc-companion/ Click on Download PC Companion Run the software and install it Turn the phone off and disconnect it from the computer 1. No matter what the program says do not connect the phone until you complete step 9 2. In the welcome screen you will see the different modules available for you including the "Support Zone" option. Click on "Start" below it. 3. On the next page Click on "Start" under "Phone Software Update" At this point if you get an error stating that "Unable to install update components" or "Server is busy" , then please proceed to step 12 4. The program will say that there is no phone connected. Click on the option below that reads: "Repair my phone" the program will issue you a warning about the content that you will lose during the update 5. Choose the option to continue. 6. The program will issue a final message warning you of possible data lost during the update. Click on the checkmark and then on "Next". 7. After that, the program will download the necessary information (5 to 6 minutes) and it will present you with a list of phones. 8. Choose your phones model from the list then click on "Next" then you will see a new section telling you how to connect the phone. (don't connect it yet) At this point the phone must be off and disconnected from the PC. 9. Connect the cable to the PC not to the phone, then while pressing and holding the indicated button (in the steps on screen an specific button will be shown for you to press on the phone) connect the cable to the phone and keep holding the indicated button until the program says "the update of your phone has started..." (in some cases a message of "Installing drivers" will appear before the message of "the update of your phone has started..." is shown.) 10. If you failed to follow the steps correctly the phone will turn on and it will request that you "Proceed with the following steps, slide down the notification bar", If this happens disconnect the phone from the cable, turn it off and repeat from step 9). 11. If the phone is connected properly, PC Companion will proceed with the update ( It will tell you to let go of the back key) then wait for the update to finish and follow instructions on screen to disconnect the unit. Dear Customer, 12. If "Unable to install update components" 1. Close PC Companion 2. Install Java from: http://www.java.com 3. Start PC Companion again and try to do the software unlock process once more. Note: If you wish only to update the unit wait for the program to open and then select the quick link on the upper left corner that says "Update Phone/Tablet" and follow the instructions to perform the update. • Problem updating Nokia N97 firmware over the arir ...

    OK here goes,
I'm having some real problems updating the firmware on my white nokia N97
I recently bought it of the web as a 12 month contract onto t-mobile (not there website though) in th uk
After noticing some problems i googled and noticed a firmware update had been released on 1st july 2009
I tried to get the firmwae over the air (OTA) via typing in *#0000# and selecting check for updates. I get no updates available for nokia and t-mobile (unsure what the difference is?)
So i heard try using nokia software updater.
i downloaded latest version 1.6.13 and installed it on a windows vista 32-bit home premium laptop ok
i have also installed all of the stuff that came with the cd with the phone (ovistore etc )
when i plug the phone into the laptop i get four options (PC, media, usb and something else) first time it ran it installed the necessary drivers and so therefore when i now plug it it just connects as expected.
so the laptop is detecting the nokia n97 at this stage
when i then load nokia software updater click next i put the phone into general mode on full charge with a sim card in it and click next again to detect the phone is pc suite mode
after about 2 minutes it says it can detect the phone although i can go to my computer and traverse the folder view!
i can even set it off looking for the phone pluggin it in and the autoplay options of vista will kick in in the background detecting the phone (ie outisde scope of nokia software updater)
i have tried all different connections mode pc suite mode etc different profiles nothing. tried it onto different pcs with different windows version on it. tried reinstalling software updater
my software version is 10.0.012 and my product code is 0587240
interestingly when i goto the can i update on nokias website it says no i have the latest version when i supply this information. weird
im kinda in catch 22 because there is a bug with pc usb detection of the phone in version 10 but i cant update to version 11 because of this bug
its driving me nuts any help greatly appreciated
    thanks in advance
    Cheers

It will break your facebook as you have re-formatted the C: drive of you phone. Was you facebook installed to the E: drive by any chance?
Go to OVI Store and re-install it.
It may be work installing it from OVI Store then un-installing that one to clean off the mess you have been left with post formatt and then re-installing it fresh from OVI Store.
As I always say. Before doing a re-format always  uninstall all apps/widgests before doing a hard reset or factory reset.
I also do a this and a factory reset before firmware updates to clean my phone. Should really do a hard reset/format as this would be cleaner still, but tehn I would have to do a lot more set-up afterwards.
