Problems upgrading from CS5 Master to CS5.5 Master; all with Photoshop

I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to the master collection stuff. Not so with the computer machine. :-)
Win 7 SP1 x64 8G RAM etc etc...
I had CS5 happily running along; no problems. I decided to buy the CS5.5 upgrade and I installed it in place.
Now I have Photoshop problems;
1. The upgrade did not over write my PS 5 directory... it created a PS5.1 Directory. D'oh! No plugins in PS5.1!! Not what I expected at all. I just wanted it to upgrade. Is it normal for Adobe products to do this and if so how do I get my plugins in the new version? It's kind of a pain... I have a lot of photoshop plugins...
2. My Photoshop printing broke in both versions 5 and 5.1. I am just using an Epson 3880 and when I try to print in PS I get a message to the effect that the printer is no longer available (it is) and it's the wrong profile... trouble is... the Printer menu item then becomes greyed out... I can't change anything. Can't fix.
So.... If anyone can shed some light on these two specific issues I would really appreciatte it! Perhaps I would get more love in the PS forum... but I thought I would try here first.
Also... a final question... with so many pieces (it is a huge Suite) would I be better off un-installing CS5 and then installing CS 5.5? What are the hardcore CS Master collection users thoughts on best practices for upgrades?

1. Yes, Adobe apps always install in new folders.
2. Try the Photoshop forum for Photoshop specific questions.
Most of the apps weren't really upgraded. The .1 releases just added CS services as far as I know.
I just built a new machine and installed InDesign CS5 and then installed the CS5.5 Master Collection. Your needs may vary.

No, forget it. Adobe only sells current versions. How would you even be able to buy a used upgrade that is tied to someone else's previous version? Makes no sense at all and is clearly a breach of the EULA - whoever may sell you this "upgrade" would have to include all his previous versions leading up to that point, making it a completely independent full license that has no relation whatsoever to your CS4. And you would still have to run the license transfer drill.

There is no longer any official upgrade for any version of InDesign. The only offerings from Adobe now are Creative Cloud subscriptions (which currently provide access to both CC and CS6 versions), or purchasing a perpetual license for CS6, at full price, with the understanding that CS6 is considered "feature complete" and will not receive any further updates and may not work on the next OS releases or new generations of hardware.

Problems upgrading from OS 8.1 to OS 9.2.2

Thank you for any help you can give me.
I have some additional problems upgrading from OS 8.1 to OS 9.2.2.
1. The keyboard is typing symbols, not normal letters. When I go to Key Caps it shows symbols and not normal letters. When I was running OS 8.1 the keyboard typed fine.
2. I also am have trouble with windows closing as I open new windows. Everytime I click to open a new folder the old folder closes.
3. Copying files. When I drag a file it makes a new copy on the desktop.
How did I goof up going from OS 8.1 directly to OS 9.2.2?
All these problems were fine while running under OS 8.1.
I believe this computer came with OS.8.6 installed on it but I got it with OS 8.1.
Any help you can pass on to me would be greatly appreciated.

Easy, I just insert my OS 8.1 System Software into the tray loading CD and choose it as the start up disk in the control panel. I restart the computer and it is running off of OS 8.1 instead on OS 9.2.2. I looked for another keyboard today at a used computer store but they didn't have one for the iMac. I need to find one as all my research indicates that it is somehow connected to the option key. But then again everything works fine under OS 8.1. Quite a puzzle to me. Again thanks for the page tip on Firmware. Jim - PS, I did pick up a zip drive that connects to USB ports.

Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

Impossible to know. But I would make a backup before doing so, just in case. I would also do the following:

If you wish to save yourself a lot time should you need to reinstall Mavericks at some point in the future then see the following:
Make Your Own Mavericks, Mountain/Lion Installer
After downloading the installer you must first save the Install Mac OS X application. After the installer downloads DO NOT click on the Install button. Go to your Applications folder and make a copy of the installer. Move the copy into your Downloads folder. Now you can click on the Install button. You must do this because the installer deletes itself automatically when it finishes installing.
   2. Get a USB flash drive that is at least 8 GBs. Prep this flash drive as follows:
Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
After DU loads select your flash drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the leftside list. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list.
Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to an hour depending upon the flash drive size.
Make your own Mavericks flash drive installer using the Mavericks tool:
You can also create a Mavericks flash drive installer via the Terminal. Mavericks has its own built-in installer maker you use via the Terminal:
You will need a freshly partitioned and formatted USB flash drive with at least 8GBs. Leave the name of the flash drive at the system default, "Untitled." Do not change this name. Open the Terminal in the Utilities folder. Copy this entire command line after the prompt in the Terminal's window:
     sudo /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume
     /Volumes/Untitled --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app --nointeraction
Press RETURN. Enter your admin password when prompted. It will not be echoed to the screen so be careful to enter it correctly. Press RETURN, again.
Wait for the process to complete which will take quite some time. When completed it would be wise to test the installer by checking that it boots the computer and is then ready for installation.

This query is working fine when executed in 4.7 system where as it is running for more time in ECC6.0.
Select query is on the table COSP.

I have checked with the table indexes, they were same as in 4.7 system.
What can be the reson for the difference in execution time. How can this be reduced without adjusting the select query.

ohhhhh....... lots of problems in select query......this is not the way you should write it.
Some generic comments:
1. never use SELECT
                   endselect.
   SELECT
into table
   for all entries in table
where.
   use perform statment after this selection.
2. Do not use into corresponding fields. use exact structure type.
3. use proper sequence of fields in the where condition so that it helps table go according to indexes.
    e.g in your case
          sequence should be
LEDNR
OBJNR
GJAHR
WRTTP
VERSN
KSTAR
HRKFT
VRGNG
VBUND
PARGB
BEKNZ
TWAER
PERBL
sequence should be same as defined in table.
Always keep select query as simple as possible and perform all other calculations etc. afterwords.

Absolutely! The only OS that needs intel is Snow Leopard, 10.6.xx You can certainly upgrade to the last iteration of Leopard [10.5.8.combo update|http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosx1058com boupdate.html] without any problem. Just make sure you have maxed out your RAM.

Are you on a Mac or PC? If the former, do you have the Application Frame visible?
Could you post a screenshot of how Photoshop CS6 looks when you first open an image and have it show at the tiny size?
Chances are you've made the main Photoshop window small, which is causing it to try to fit a newly opened image in too small a space.
I'm going to make a wild guess that you're on a Mac, and have dragged the bottom edge of the Photoshop window up instead of turning off the Application Frame, so as to be able to see your desktop.

Yes. I've found that works best. Especially if the drive is external, since external connections are typically slower, and Spotlight loves to eat up space going back and forth. Time Machine will eat up as much space as it can, and typically needs drives at least twice the size of the original hard drive that is being backed up, if being backed up in full. So unfortunately there is a lot of empty space that is needed for smooth operation.

Upgrade from CS2 Education to CS5 Full Commercial?

I'm new to this forum. I have a question regarding upgrading to CS5. I don't think there's been another question on this specific question I have. If there is, sorry for posting it again.
Basically, I have a copy of the CS2 Design Premium Education version. Now I would like to upgrade it to the CS5 Design Premium Commercial version. I didn't need to work from home previously, so never really needed the commercial licence for my laptop. But now it's time to get one so I can work anywhere.
I know there is an upgrade from CS2 to CS5 version that I can purchase but it doesn't tell me if it can be used on the Education version too.
Can anyone confirm that the upgrade does work on an Education version too?

You brought up a few issues here.
(1) If you bought an upgrade that you cannot use, please call Adobe Customer Support (via phone) and see what can be done to let you return the software. There should not be any problem if this is within 30 days of purchase, but even if not, they should be supportive. If the first agent you speak to can't assist, ask for their supervisor.
(2) The copy of CS3 that was installed on your Mac by your employer is likely a volume license which cannot be upgraded via a standard upgrade license. Note that if your employer installed the software using their volume serial number, that software license belongs to your employer and not you personally. It that employer is in fact your ex-employer, you no longer have legal rights to use that software which was licensed to your ex-employer. (Note that purchasers of volume licenses cannot unbundle a volume license by either giving away copies such as to former employees or sell such copies!)

How do I upgrade from Adobe Flash Professional cs5.5 to Adobe Flash Professional cs6?

A couple of months ago, I was told by the live support team of Adobe, that I would be able to upgrade from flash cs5.5 to flash cs6 mac version, then I can change that to the windows version for $100. Now I am ready to upgrade and switch, but I am unable to find the upgrade for the USA, only for Africa. When I go to change the country to USA, it brings my to a cyclical clicking of links that never leads me to the actual flash cs6 purchase page, it only brings me to the purchase page for Flash CC, which I don't want. I am skeptical that the flash cs6 purchase page with Africa as a location was even a legitimate adobe webpage. Here is the page I was brought to by google (google was the only thing able to bring me to the page, I can't find it via adobes website) : Adobe Store - Adobe Flash Professional CS6 - Upgrade. I don't want to have to download from overseas (Digital River Ireland Ltd.) if this is even legitimate. The fine print said international purchases may incur an extra charge by my bank which I would love to avoid. Someone please help me, my Macbook broke last year and I have had a digital copy of the mac version of flash cs5.5 for a few years which I payed 700 dollars for, and now I have a windows laptop and the mac version of flash cs5.5 is useless to me now unless I can solve this issue! I have CS4 Production Premium but I need Indesign so was thinking of upgrading to Master collection. It seems like Master collection 6 will be out early next year? So I am confused about when would be the best time to upgrade from $$$ saving point of view?
So should I upgrade from....
a) - CS4 Production Premium > to Master collection 5.5 now and then > to Master collection 6 later
or
b) CS4 Production Premium > to Master collection 6 directly
or
c) - CS4 Production Premium > to Master collection 5.5 now and forget about version 6.
I assume option c) would be cheapest. Which will be cheaper out of a) and b) ?

Adobe has made no announcement about CS6. The best time to buy anything is when you need it.

I currently have a student edition of Dreamweaver MX, Flash MX, and Illustrator 10. I would like to upgrade these to the Adobe CS5 professional versions, but I am not sure if I can since they are so old. Or can I upgrade these to the Adobe CS5 Design package?

Unfortunately, that won't work. All MX versions (student, full retail etc) are too old to qualify for an upgrade.
Adobe has a "3-versions-back" policy for upgrading these days.
So the only versions eligible for an upgrade to CS5 are DW8, CS3 and CS4.
