Problems upgrading iphone software

Every time I try to  upgrade to  the latest version I get the  following error message.
"There was a problem downloading the software  for the iphone ..........The network connection timed out"
Any ideas?

The usual cause of this is anti-virus software and/or firewalls running on your computer. Disable all of that stuff & try again.

  • Problems downloading Iphone software 2.0.2

I have tried 8 time to download the Iphone software upgrade 2.0.2 and after waiting for 2 hours that is when it does not get a computer crush, I get a stop err=-3259
There has been a problem with the down load. Some type of out of time waiting for the network connection.
I do not know why Itunes is not smart enough if the connection stops, the next time Itunes is started it should continue downloading from the point it stopped. Also an option to pause and resume download should be available so the user does not have to wait the 2 hours straight.
It has been 8 times having the Iphone connected for 2 hours each try with no results.
Please can anybody help me on this

Yes you will be able to download 2.0, I have 4GB also. You need to update iTunes first though then you can download 2.0. Do not do it yet though everyone seems to be having problems finishing the installation.

  • Can/Should I upgrade iPhone software?

My iPhone is 3GS. I have software version 3.1 (don't think I've ever updated it!). I've noticed more and more apps are unavailable as I don't have current enough software but I'm worried if I update to the latest version I'll have problems with the battery etc. We currently have iTunes version 10.0.1.22 - do I need to upgrade iTunes also? I don't have a good track record with updating iTunes as it always seems to mess up the computer - it seems ok if you're starting from fresh with a new computer but updating an existing version of iTunes always seems a nightmare. Should I update the iPhone software or just accept that I'll have less and less access to apps? Thx.

It is ultimately your decision whether to upgrade or not.
That being said, there are a multitude of security enhancements, bug fixes, and performance enhancements that have been incorporated into iOS over the last two years.
Why are you concerned about the battery? Because a handful of users have reported battery issues after upgrading? If you look through the forums, you will see the same issues reported after EVERY iOS upgrade dating back to version 1.0.
Your version of iTunes is current, so there is no need to update that.
Just make sure you have a good backup prior to starting the update, this is the first step in the process, but always better to be safe than sorry.

  • Problem updating iphone software version 4.3.3

Every time I have tried to update the iphone software when prompted by itunes it crashes, sometimes at the end of the update sometimes before. It comes up with an error message every time. Please can someone help?

First thing I'd do is check that I have the latest version of iTunes. This has cought me out a few times. Other thing that I've experienced is a iTunes seems to think there is a problem with my USB socket, so I've tried another and it's worked fine.
But yes what is your error and error number?

  • Upgraded Iphone software and apps won't load

I updated by Iphone software to the latest version last week and now none of my applications will load onto the iphone, i have tried deleting the applications and getting them again from the I-Tunes store but this doesn't work either... can any one please help me??

Hmmm sorry pal, I think you may be stuffed. I have had the same problem with some of my apps, that don't seem to work anymore ie they load, but then just crash out.

  • Upgrading iPhone software 3.0 through iTunes but won't update

I've been trying to update my iPhone software to 3.0 through iTunes on my home PC, but it keeps giving me an error message saying that the "software update server cannot be contacted. Check internet connection or try again later." My internet connect is active/fine, have already downloaded the latest version of iTunes (8.2), so what's wrong???

I think I've figured this out.
Using another PC on a different network, which doesn't have a restrictive firewall, and the synch to Gmail contacts worked...
I didn't think it was a firewall problem, because in the original attempt, I even used Wireshark to sniff the network traffic for the synchronization traffic. I only saw http traffic to the google servers, and that's not restricted...so I must have missed something in the network trace, but my guess is that the firewall (a cisco 5500 series) was blocking the authentication traffic. Perhaps it uses imap or some other protocol besides http or https, which would have been allowed.
I also log all dropped traffic in a syslog, and didn't see any entries corresponding to the synch, but again, I may have missed something.
So, at any rate, it is now working and I'm pretty certain it was the cisco firewall policy that was the problem.

  • Problem downloading iphone software

Hey I am trying to update the latest sofware for my iphone 3gs (version 4.3.3). It downloads but just as it finishes downloading the error message "There was a problem downloading the software to the iphone 'Pauline's iphone'. The network connection timed out." comes up. I have tried 5 times but the same thing happens every time.
Please help me how do i solve this issue?

Did I miss your post in this thread? The one where you laid out the issues you were having and any error messages you were getting? I must have because I don't remember seeing it here.
Of course Apple is sometimes wrong. For 2 updates in a row I had echo problems when using BT with my car. I sent in feedback and I called AppleCare. Eventually it was fixed.
But for the OP in THIS thread the problem was their antivirus/antispyware software and the solution worked for them.
If you are sure it is a problem with 4.3.3 (and I know a number of people with Windows computers that updated and didn't have an issue so it is not a systematic problem) then wait for iOS 5 and maybe it will be fixed in that update.

  • HT4972 Upgrade iPhone software version from 4.3.4 to the latest available

I am trying to upgrade my iPhone software version from 4.3.4 to the latest and keep getting this message whenever I hit <Update> or <Restore>.  "The iPhone software update server could not be contacted" - what should I do?

Start by making sure you have disabled any firewall or antivirus programs.

  • Having problems updating iphone software to version 5.0

I currently have version 4.3.1 and finally decided to update iphone software to version 5.0.  It goes through the 6 minute process, but then I get the error message:  "There was a probem downloading the software for the IPhone -----.  The network connection ttimed out.  Make sure your network setting are correct and your network connection is active or try again later."
I've tried several times and keep getting the same message.  My network connection is active and I've just the firewall and made sure it allows itunes updates.
Please help!  Any other suggestions?  When answering please be very specific - I'm really clueless with the computer.
    Thanks in advance!

    try this,
Plug in, click update software, and click download ONLY.
Let the ipsw file download complete,... then click update.
This way is much better. If you keep having error message, its either your internet connection is inconsistent or Apple's server is inconsistent... usually more likely the former.

  • Problems upgrading iPhone 4 to latest iOS (7.1.2)

Hi, I'm trying to upgrade an iPhone 4 from iOS 6.0.1 to the latest version (7.1.2) but facing the dreaded 3194 error in iTunes. I have tried everything from resetting my hosts file to disabling my firewall and anti-virus but the error just will not go away.. it occurs right at the end of the restore process after the software has been restored and is being verified. I looked through the update log and it seems to be an issue with updating the baseband. Copying a section of the log below.

    Hi Md. Abdur Rahman,
Thanks for participating in the Apple Support Communities.
If your iPhone 4 is restarting unexpectedly, there are a few things to do depending on how frequently this is happening.
If it is restarting intermittently (from time to time), you may want to back up your data and restore the iPhone to factory settings:
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings - Apple Support
If the same thing occurs, this article suggests contacting Apple Support for more help:
If your iOS device restarts, displays the Apple logo, or powers off while you're using it - Apple Support
Make sure your iOS device is up to date. If you still see this issue after updating, contact Apple Support.
    Sincerely,
    Jeremy

  • Problems upgrading iphone on PC

Every time I try to upgrade my iphone 4 software on my PC I get a message "network connection timed out. Check your network settings" Can't figure out what it could be. Any suggestions?

A simple search of the forums would have revealed this is a common issue and provided a solution.
Temporarily disable any Anti-Virus and Firewall software on the comptuer then try the upgrade again.

  • How long to upgrade iphone software to Version 4

My iphone has Version 3.1.3 and I am attempting to upgrade to Version 4 but the back up phase of the upgrade appears to be taking forever.
My iphone has a capacity of 14.28GB, with 12.02GB free so there should not be too much data to back up, yet it seems to be stuck in the back up phase.

I just left my iphone slowly working through and am pleased to say that after a considerable time (not sure how long as I gave up on it and went to watch a movie)it managed to get through the process and now appears to be up and running with the new software.

  • ITunes cannot upgrade iphone software.

Whenever I try and do an upgrade to my iPhone, iTunes seems to always get almost to the end of the update and then freezes. This has happened with version 10 and previous versions as well.
I am using Snow Leopard 10.6.4.
Do I need to re-install itunes? If so how?
Thanks and I look forward to your advice on this issue.

It depends on which iMac you have. If it is a PPC (G4 or G5) iMac you cannpt upgrade beyond Leopard 10.5.8, and you cannot synch with an iPhone 5.
If it an Intel iMac you need to first purchase Snow Leopard 10.6 and update iTunes:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'

  • Error 1604 - upgrading iPhone software

I am upgrading my iPhone to the new software. Had to restart 2x before the phone was recognized in iTunes. Once it was recognized, the software download was prompted and I began the download. I got an error and was told I had to restore the phone. Begrudgingly selected to Restore and the error 1604 came up. The phone is now black screen and I can not get it to come on. The phone is not recognized in ITunes.
    Help.
