Problems upgrading my osx 10.3.9 to Tiger

Hello, I wondered if anyone could help me...I recently purchased a new ipod touch only to find that it wasn't compatiable with my OS X 10.3 so I was advised by MAc to purchase Tiger. I did and all was going well untill but very soon into the installation in says error and stops.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated. I'm pretty bad with macs but really want to get this sorted.
Thanks
Dave

Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Did you get the retail Tiger installer which looks like this:
If not, that disc won't work.
Does your iBook have a built-in DVD drive?
Did you erase and install, archive and install, or upgrade and install?
Did you backup your data before attempting your installation?
Did you disconnect all non-Apple attachments (peripherals) before attempting installation?
Did you make sure you had sufficient hard disk space and RAM?
What error did you get?

  • Problems upgrading from Panther 10.3.9 to Tiger

I am having problems upgrading my Mac 500mhtz which currently runs Mac OS X 10.3.9 (Panther). It starts the installation process, I choose the language that I want (EnglisH) then the next screebbn says " Alert - Thius software cannot be installed on this computer" . The options I have is Resart or Startup Disk . I don't understand whythis happening becasue I meet the requirements. I have about 6 gigs of space ti stall and from what I read Tiger needs 3 gigs. I have loked through many forums and have not found the answer to my question. Does anybody know the answer to this solution. I have also backed up my User profile and are planning on doing a clean install once when installing Tiger.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
That error frequently appears if you don't use the retail Tiger installer discs. Mac OS X installer discs are system specific or retail versions. You don't want to install another Mac's installer discs, for reasons my FAQ states here:
    http://www.macmaps.com/upgradefaq.html#SYSTEMSPECIFIC
I'd also look that whole FAQ over and see whether or not you really are ready for an upgrade.
In addition, there is no such thing as a "clean install". Here are the various types of installation options available:

  • Problem upgrading to osx.3

    Hi,
I'm trying to upgrade an imac g3 333 with os9.2.2 to panther (retail cd's). When I boot from disk#1, white screen with grey apple and turning wheel appears but nothing more. Imac has 160mb and 6Gb HD. Firmware seems up-to-date. Help please.
    Mike

    Hi Ali,
    Yup!
My problem is finally solved. I managed to install panther by making a bootable copy of the install cd1. I did a bootable image (.cdr) with Disk Utility app, chose DVD/CD master format instead of the default compressed format (.dmg). I booted and chose french as the main language. It found errors and aborted during the installation verification check. I rebooted, zapped pram 4 times (command-option-p-r + wait for 4 bongs) then hold C key. Chose englih as language and it installed ok. When asked for cd2, I put it in but nothing happened. I rebooted, now in macos 10.3 tried again by clicking the instll pack. and got errors and aborted. Put the cd in my G5 and installed thru he network, it worked. Hope my experience can help others.
    Bye and thx all

  • Upgrading from osx 10.2.8 to osx 10.4

I bought a set of 16 install disk for an emac ( they are grey ) and it came with one disk that is black with a grey x and say's xcode 2 on it. I cant get the disks to work. I put in the first disk and it tells me to click the restart button and then the computer restart and stays on the grey screen with the dark grey spinning wheel. Can some one please help?

Hi, i also have a question but it falls in the same category so didn't want to post another question.
I will be buying 512RAM so i can upgrade from OSX 10.2.8 to Tiger OSX 10.4 then I will be buying the install disks. When i go install Tiger, what will happen to all my files/music/work that i have on my emac at the moment? Will it still be on there when i fully install Tiger or will it be written over/wiped?
Seems a silly question but i want to know exactly what i am doing before i do it! Don't want to lose anything in the process.
    Thanks in advance.

In iTunes go File -> Library -> Organise Library -> Reorganise Library.
    Then quit and restart iPhoto.

  • I just upgraded to OSX LION and have a problem with "hidden" files

Okay first please take it easy with me, This is my first iMac and I've had it only 3 days, Everything was working fine until i upgraded to OSX LION, Now I have a problem "Hidden" files on an external hard drive which were visible before the upgrade seem to have vanished.
Does anyone know what's happened - Did the upgrade delete them somehow (The drive was not connected during the process) or does LION simply hide "Hidden" files, I certainly hope that's the case because there were quite a few files annd I would hate to have lost them permanently.
Obviously if they are just hidden i would appreciate anyone telling me if\how I can see them again.
THANK YOU in advance for your help.

First WOW what a quick response, are Mac users always this quick to help each other out - Never got such a rapid response in all my PC using years.
Second it is an NTFS drive, Other non-hidden files are still there and still accessible it's just the "hidden" ones that have vanished. As I said this is my first ever Mac so I can't figure out how to unhide them if that is at all possible and if that is in fact what has happened here.

  • Printer problem after upgrade to OSX Mavericks

Help!!  My Canon MX310 printer  no longer works after I upgraded to OSX Mavericks.  Does anyone else out there have the same problem or point me to a potential solution?  Thanks

First and probably the most important is go up to your Black Apple uuper left and do the Software Update. Double check that your plugged in to the USB port on your Mac. Restart the Mac and you should be good to go. Iwould also go to Canons web site and make sure there are any New Drivers for Mavericks.

How to manage a failed OS X Mavericks installation | MacFixIt - CNET Reviews.
    Try these in order:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and
after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears.
Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
    4. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Epson printing problems when upgraded to OSX 4.7

I am trying to use an Epson DX4850 All in One on a G5 PowerMac (not Intel) running OSX 4.7 and am totally unable to print anything. The DX will scan (so it is talking to the computer!) but it will not print. I get a No Communication prompt.
When I was running OSX 4.6 it printed 99% of the time although I did have trouble installing the Driver initially. Since upgrading to OSX 4.7 I am unable to print anything, although strangely I can scan(!?!?!)
I have reinstalled from the software disk and also downloaded the Driver from Epson and installed that to no avail. I have also used Printer Set Up to configure everything ......again!!! I was able to get around it temporarily by moving jobs to my iBook (running OSX 3.9) which printed with no problem, but that now is also refusing to print .....but again it will scan!!!
    Where to now??
Is this an issue with the OS X 4.7 upgrade and if so does anyone know if Apple are doing anything about it. Is there a way round this because as of now I have 3 computers unable to print anything and my work is suffering!!
    Thanks for your time

  • I have just upgraded to OSX Maverick and now my Apple TV has taken over my iTunes videos. I have tried turning off homeshare and iHave gone into system prefs and disabled the remote, but the problem persists. Any ideas.

After upgrading to OSX Maverick my Apple TV  has taken control of my iTunes videos insisting I have to watch it on my TV. I have tried disabling home sharing on iTunes and on the Apple TV menu, I have also checked the disable Infrared facility in Systems Prefs Security. Even if I put the Apple TV in standby as soon as I hit a key on my iMac, Apple TV comes back on and on my Itunes screen I get the Apple TV logo imprinted on the screen, meaning I can no longer watch it on my MAC, I have run out of ideas. Can anyone help.

I think you're headed the right direction. There is an AirPlay icon (on mine it is up near the play/pause controls) that I believe is used to set the default desitination for the video to play.
I'd never seen your issue before, but opened iTunes on a recently-upgraded-to-Mavericks MacBook and it did exactly as you described. While the video was loading, I switched the AirPlay option to the computer instead of ATV and it began playing locally (after a delay as you'd mentioned). I then read this page, which is actually quite old: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1091073, which lead me to the icon near the play/pause button. It now has Computer selected on it, and defaults to play locally instead of the ATV even after quitting and reopening iTunes. I hope that is helpful.

  • My iMac is only 2 years old, but has stopped playing DVDs.  I upgraded to osx Lion.  Could that be the problem?

My Imac wont play store DVDs.  It will read files from a disc but not play movies.  It ejects the disc.  I recently upgraded to OSX Lion could that be an issue?

Reinstall Just OS X, clean and try different DVD's to confirm all don't work.
How to reinstall just OS X or erase/install OS X
I double Lion is the cause, likely a DVD region issue or a bad Lion install.
