Problems upgrading to iPhoto 6.0.5 on new Intel

Hi. I have a new Intel Mac that came with iPhoto 6.0.3. I'm attempting to upgrade to either iPhoto 6.0.4 or 6.0.5 but keep getting the message that a valid application doesn't exist on my harddrive. Does that mean I have to purchase iLife 6? Or is there some other setting that I can make to accept the upgrade. It's also happening with iDVD 6.0.3. Thanks

Thanks for the responses. Yes, I've checked all those and no changes were made to those. The .pkg's are still in HD/Library/Receipts, and those apps haven't been moved from the App folder. I've downloaded from the standalone files and those won't install. When I go through Software Upgrade, those don't show up for upgrade, so my guess is that I need to buy a bona fide iLife06 disc. What's installed on a computer when you buy it is somehow tagged to be different from the file installed from a disk. Bummer.

  • Problems upgrading to iPhoto 9.2.1, count seems to go down and up

I'm upgrading to iPhoto '11 (9.2.1) from iPhoto '09, with a very large library. I'm currently on the 'Updating library...' stage of the process (which it's been on for almost 24 hours), and the number right now says 192164 out of 258687. However, as I watch it, the numbers are actually going down, and then back up:
    192180
    192183
    192179
    192187
    192189
    192192
    192196
    192194
    192195
... and so forth, at the rate of about 1 or 2 changes per second. When it first started, they were going up much more quickly.
Ultimately the numbers do seem to be advancing, but it's like they'll take one step forward, then five or six steps back, then another step forward. It's going incredibly slowly.
Has anybody else had this issue? I'm assuming it will complete, eventually, but I'm wondering if there's anything I can do to speed it up.

There's nothing you can do to speed it up. It just has to run and finish. Don't interrupt it.

  • Problem upgrading to IPhoto v9.2

I currently have Iphoto v8.1.2.  I went to the app store and purchased Iphoto v9.2 so I could use ICloud for photos.  The ITunes store said I purchased it but I'm not sure why I cannot install it.  I "repurchased" today and it says "One moment please.  Connecting to the Mac App Store.  Loading...."  It did this last night and I finally shut down my computer after 2 hours.  Today, the same thing.  Am I missing something?  I don't use Gagage Band so did not wish to upgrade this feature.  I'm not sure which ILife I have.  Can anyone help me?  Or is the App Store overwhelmed?  Thanks!

I just bought an iPod Touch, & am trying to get it going for hubby for Xmas. But,having not used iTunes before, I downloaded the Version 9.x only to learn that I had to upgrade OP system. I'm at OS 10.3.11 (or so). So I was able to download an upgrade to 10.4.something (took 45 min.), but it doesn't show up on system. I restarted and now can't even find the download file. So, I can't install iTunes.
So, do I have to buy a new system? And how long will that take?
We're pretty simple: only want to be able to compile some music in a little portable device. Can I get an older version of iTunes?
    Please help.
    Thanks

problem updating to iphoto 9.6 after upgrading to Yoesmite  I am getting the following message when I try top date iPhoto This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or canc

"This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled." ?
This error message will appear erraneously, if you skipped the update to Mavericks and iPhoto 9.5.1 and went straight from an earlier MacOS X version to Yosemite, without first updating to iPhoto 9.5.1 and associating iPhoto to your AppleID.
Try first to buy iPhoto with your AppleID instead of updating. Delete iPhoto from Applications, but don't empty the Trash, then go to the main page of the App Store and search for iPhoto. If you are lucky, it will show as free and you can buy it directly.
If iPhoto  is not showing as free, there is no help but contacting the App Store Support: Ask for a redemption code. You will need to provide a prove of purchase for your mac with iPhoto preinstalled.

  • Has upgrade to iPhoto 6 solved anyone's SBOD hang problems?

I'm just curious if there is a bug fix included with this version. I'm going to upgrade regardless because I want the other features of iLife, but I've been hoping against hope that iPhoto 6 might actually deliver. I'd be tickled if it delivered the 25,000 images promises of v5. If I can't get iPhoto to work right with 6, I'm going third party. A year of frustration is TOO much.
PS - I did try to search before posting but I couldn't come up with a term that brought me any results on this question.

I answered this myself by upgrading. I don't have any spinning ball nightmares or problems quitting on the two computers with the upgrades. That may be due to the fact that with each the upgrade also included a completely fresh start with iPhoto. I am creating new libraries when I get to two or three thousand photos. I'm being diligent about culling unwanted photos through image capture and preview before I import them. I'm smarter about managing photos within iPhoto and not touching anything in the folders for iPhoto.
I have not upgraded on my third computer yet as it is the repository of all the photos I had before iPhoto 6. I have up to five copies of the same photo that are listed as originals. Most are rotations. It's crazy. They are still in a disastrous mess. I'm a bit reluctant to upgrade there. Maybe it will help me get the mess fixed.
The final line is that I love iPhoto again, thanks to version 6.

I just upgraded to iPhoto 11 and got this message:
"There is a problem accessing one or more files in your iPhoto library. Do you want iPhoto to repair permissions for this library for you?"

    Back up. Then click repair.

  • Upgrading to iPhoto 6 from iPhoto 4, any problem?

I have iPhoto 4, and I want to upgrade to iPhoto 6. Is there any problem with skipping from 4 to 6?
I do plan to back everything up before I do any upgrading. Actually after backing up, I may erase some of the photos from my internal hd. I have over 6000 and iPhoto is seeming a little sluggish, hopefully eliminating some photos will help.
Any advice before I do this is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

To have a V5 library you would have had to buy iLIfe 054 and install it so I don't think it is a V5 library.
Go into the iPhoto Library folder and open the Originals folder. There should be subfolders in there representing each roll in the library. Check to see if there are any subfolders, if they contain files and that those files are full sized files.
If they are and it seem your files are there but just not getting seen by iPhoto there are a couple of routes you can take:
1 - run iPhoto Library Manager to rebuild your library. This sill create a new library by copying the files and data it need from your old library to the new one. Here's how:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: It can take some time to create the new library if you have a lot of photos. One user reported that with a library of about 5,000 images it took about 12 hours so plan ahead.
2 - the second option is to copy the Originals folder from the existing library folder to the desktop. Then move that library folder to the trash. Now launch iPhoto and when it tells you it cannot find a library select the new library option. Now drag the Originals folder from the desktop into the open iPhoto library window to import. That should get you a library with the same rolls (but probably different roll dates but those can be edited) but no keywords, albums, etc.

  • Problem upgrading iPhoto after installing Maverick

I just upgraded from OS X v10.6.8 to Mavericks.  I cannot upgrade my iPhotos (current version 8.1.2).  The general software updater doesn't seem to pick up that the software needs updating the 'update all' option doesnt work.  When I try to update directly from within iPhoto it tells me there is a new version which comes as part of iLife 11 but when I click on 'learn more' it takes me to the mac website  where i get a message 'Hmm, the page you’re looking for can’t be found'
I am concerned that this is not the only software which needs updating and is not being recognised.  Can anyone help with my immediate problem and the broader issue of how to check other software are not having the same issue?
    Thanks

You'd have the same version of Word since the MS updates update all MS Office apps.
The only thing that I can suggest is to take your question to the MS Office 2011 Mac forums -> http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac.
That's where I'm headed to complain about my font problems!

  • Just upgraded to iPhoto 11 and have a major problem!

Can anyone assist me please. I have just purchased Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 and once I loaded it and tried to organise my photo collection, the system informed me that my iPhoto needed to be upgraded to iPhoto 11.
I purchased the upgrade and when I loaded Adobe PSE9 'Organiser' I received an error message box which states that I have an
e-licenser Control Error. Specifically it states that 'Halion Sonic 1.x M6' has caused the following error:
elicenser(s) contains no valid license for this application.
It then gives me the following options:
         - For Trouble shooting options click 'Help'
         - Click <Licences> to view available licenses
         - Connect a valid eLicenser and click <retry>
         - Click <cancel> to abort.
I do have an elicense for Halion products that I use with Cubase 6. I am not sure why a software for my music studio should conflict with PSE9 and prevent the software from organising my photographs from iPhoto.
Even if I remove the Adobe software from my iMAC the iPhoto 11 upgrade will not load any of my photos that were originally on the system
Please can anyone offer me some advice as I have tried all of the above options without success.
    Strummerlee

    Your question is not clear
Can anyone assist me please. I have just purchased Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 and once I loaded it and tried to organise my photo collection, the system informed me that my iPhoto needed to be upgraded to iPhoto 11.
How were you organizing your photo collection? You are aware that make any changes to the content or structure of the iPhoto library will corrupt your library and cause data loss
As to informing you that you needed to upgrade to iPhoto '11 - I do not believe that that ever happens - you may be notified that your library has been upgraded and you need an upgrade - this can be caused by library corruption (like moving or modifying files within the iPhoto library using the finder or a program other than iPhoto) - I'm not clear but it could possibly be related to your organizing your photos
You then go into s discussion of PSE9, Halion and Cubase 6 - all not Apple products and not iPhoto related - hat questions would best be addressed in the support forums for those products
Even if I remove the Adobe software from my iMAC the iPhoto 11 upgrade will not load any of my photos that were originally on the system
this depends on exactly what you did to "organize" your photos - I'm guessing that you have destroyed your iPhoto library and will have to start over but need more information to be sure
Do you have a backup of your iPhoto library from just before you "organized" your photos?

  • Problems with iPhoto upgrader on iPhoto 7.1.5. HELP!

I installed and ran the iPhoto upgrader for iPhoto 7 in preparation to install a newer version of iPhoto (9 or later) so that i can get photo album and books printed via iPhoto.  I downloaded a number of available iPhoto 9 upgrades, but none worked even through i had run the upgrader.  I am now stuck with a MacBook (OS X 10.7.5) with a version of iPhoto that won't open (error message: You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto) and also wo';t allow me to install any iPhoto upgrades.  Help!  I have tried to restore iPhoto from time machine, but that hasn't worked, plus trying the original install disk for my laptop hasn't worked, presumably because i have upgraded the OS a few times since i got it (it's a late 2008 dinosaur of a macbook!).  I am worried that now i have lost my photos and will have to pay 50 quid for a iLife disk with no guarantee that it will work.  All i really want to do is un-install the upgrader and return iPhoto to it's original 7.1.5 state.  Is that possible? Also how can i check that my photos are still stored somewhere without being able to open iPhoto? Please help! Thank you.

You only need to run the upgrader if you have iPhoto 9.5.  It's not needed for other iPhoto 9 versions, i.e. 9.0 thru 9.4.3.
You might be able to downgrade that library by following this iPhoto LIbrary Manager tutorial: Fat Cat Software - iPhoto Library Manager Help - Downgrading a library to an earlier version of iPhoto

  • Upgrade to iPhoto '11 on Macbook Air from iPhoto on iBook G4 causing viewing problems

    Hi,
I was using a iBook G4 with iPhoto quite happily until I decided to upgrade. I had my iPhoto Library on my External Harddrive because it was too big for the onboard memory.
I have upgraded to mid 2011 Macbook Air, and attempted to use iPhoto '11, but it stated I had to upgrade all my photos before I could use them. I have done so, and now I can't see most of them in iPhoto.
This photo shows my issue. The files are in the iPhoto Library package, but not showing up in iPhoto. For example, the photo highlighted in iPhoto, I have found in iPhoto Library>Masters>2008>Roll 137>P6200035.jpg as it's original file (the Finder window on the top right), and iPhoto Library>Data>2008>Roll 137>P600035.jpg as what I assume is it's thumbnail (Finder window on bottom right).
I have also found them in iPhoto Library>Originals>2008.... and iPhoto Library>Thumbnails>2008....
I tried repairing the iPhoto Library to no avail. I tried draggin the file into iPhoto, but was met with this dialogue box:
so I tried deleting that particular photo so I could just add it in again, but it  won't let me (cmd and backspace does nothing and moving to trash just gets a error sound.
I have looked through these community forums for answers butthey seem to be from people upgrading their iPhoto software, whereas I am using Iphoto 11 out of the box.
    Thank you.

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to rebuild the thumbnails. It can take 3 or 4 goes for this to work

  • I recently upgraded to iPhoto 9.5 and find that the "burn" to CD function is found nowhere. Anyone else have this problem?

I recetly upgraded to iPhoto 9.5 and find that the "burn" function is not available. Has anyone else run into this issue and if so, what did you find? I know that one can burn from the "FInder" but I still want to burn in the iPhoto format.

It's been removed as Apple is no longer adding optical drives to it's computers.  So to burn photos (not iPhoto compatible mini libraries) to a disk you need to export them to a folder on the Desktop via File ➙ Export ➙ File Export  and burn that folder to disk via the Finder.
iPhoto 9.5 will not natively read disks created by previous versions.
The following is from this Apple document which describes how to convert the mini libraries on those disks so iPhoto can view them: iPhoto 9.5: Using iPhoto libraries saved to CD or DVD
iPhoto 9.5: Using iPhoto libraries saved to CD or DVD
Learn how to use iPhoto libraries that you saved to CD or DVD in earlier versions of iPhoto.
In iPhoto 9.5 you can use an earlier iPhoto library that you saved to CD or DVD. To do this, first copy the library to your hard drive. Then:
If your iPhoto library on your CD or DVD was created in iPhoto 8.0 or later, iPhoto 9.5 can upgrade your library when you double-click to open it.
If your iPhoto library on your CD or DVD was created in iPhoto 7.0 or earlier, you will first need to use the iPhoto Library Upgrader tool to prepare it for iPhoto 9.5.
UPDATE:  Just went thru the process and the iPhoto Library Upgrader converted the library into a working library that iPhoto could open.  However, if you want to import any of those photos into your working library you'll have to use the paid version of  iPhoto Library Manager to copy the Events or album you want from the converted library into your working library.  An extra 2 steps that we didn't have to do previously.
