Problems upgrading to iTunes 8.2 from 8.0.2.20

For the last few weeks I am prompted occasionally to update iTunes, I dutyfully follow the process.
Downloading Vers 8.2.0 Size 83.13MB
1st chunk - 14.6MB
2nd chunk - 26.7MB
3rd chunk - 0.1MB
4th chunk - 41.7MB
Starts to install, gets within 4 blocks on the progress bar of the end, closes iTunes, continues to all but the last block of the progress bar and then gives me an error that it could not update (sorry, clicked passed the error too soon to write it down).
It then suggests to update manually going into tools, but I can not find this anywhere. What might be the problem.
I have iTunes.exe on a laptop - C:\program files\iTunes and the library on an external drive e:\iTunes.
If I uninstall iTunes from C: and leave the Library where it is if I were to download iTunes would it be the latest version, and would the library and the content on the iPhone be okay, could I locate the library by holding shift when opening up iTunes after re-install.
Finally, will OS3 on the iPhone work with iTunes 8.0? Do I need to update it?

I have Windows Vista myself and have no idea how to check and see what ITunes version I have to begin with. Do you know how to check? Also I noticed that the Update states 8.2 for MAC. Will we even be able to download it?
Now the BIGGIE....when for 3.0? What are they waiting for!!!!

  • Problem upgrading to iTunes 10.5.2

I have an imac running OS 10.6.8 and am running itunes version 10.4.1.  I tried to upgrade to iTunes 10.5.2 (required to update my iPad to latest OS).  It appeared to work, and installer says I have no new updates for my computer, but the version number in iTunes still says 10.4.1, and iTunes won't let me update the OS on my iPad until it upgrades to 10.5.2.  I ran the update both through iTunes 'check for updates', and by downloading directly from the Apple website, but doesn't fix the problem.  Suggestions?

I realized I can't drag and drop either, but I barely have any songs and I've never noticed if this feature was there before 10.5.2. Is this only on a playlist?

  • Problems upgrading to iTunes 7 and QuickTime

I had an older version of iTunes and then wanted to upgrade to the latest version.
So i downloaded it and installed it and then when trying to open it it complained that my quicktime version is too old so I went out downloaded it from the itunes site.
then when trying to install it I get this message:
"A newer version of QuickTime is already installed. The installation can not proceed as long as the newer QuickTime-version is installed" then when clicking OK in the dialog box the installation stops.
I have tried to Remove iTunes and Quicktime and I have been into Regedit and removed all Quicktime entries I have found, which is a jungle and I am sure that it is hidden somewhere....
As a matter of fact I have even used regedit cleaning software and erased all that was found and still it wont install the newer QuickTime....
This has now become a even bigger problem as also Flash 8 video encoder is dependent on Quicktime so how can I solve this annoying and very hard-to-solve problem?
I don't want to reinstall my entire PC.... but I'm coming closer and closer to that decision...
Does anyone in the entire world know how to solve this without reinstall the entire PC?

As a rule I would never go into regedit and manually delete keys and anyone who suggests this is giving potentially dangerous advice.
First try uninstalling iTunes and Quicktime from Control Panel, Add or Remove Programs.
You don't say the name of the regedit cleaning software you used.
So if you haven't already, go to the Microsoft web site (below) and download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. Install it, and run it. Quicktime and iTunes will probably still be in the list. Uninstall Quicktime and iTunes with it again.

Download iTunes from apple.com and try installing it (Quicktime is bundled with it).
You might still have problems installing because of QuickTime registry key access errors. If that happens, go to the link below, scroll about half way down and follow the steps carefully to change Owner and Permissions on each key that fails due to access denied errors.

  • Problems upgrading to itunes 7/quick time

I have tried to upgrade to itunes 7 and get a message regarding quick time...
"Could not open key:Hkey local machine\software\classes\...\CLSID. Verify that you have sufficient access to thet key or contact your support personnel"
Any ideas on how to fix this problem?
    Thanks

    lakeman,
Something is preventing the install of iTunes 7 / Quicktime 7.1.3 from modifying a registry key.
This could be other applications running on the computer such as anti-spyware or anti-virus software.
I would suggest the Empty your Temp directory and restart (some files may not delete), Uninstall older versions of iTunes and QuickTime, Clean up iTunes installer files on the computer, and Download (or redownload) the software from this article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93976
During the install of the Quicktime 7.1.3 standalone mentioned in that article, turn off your anti-virus and anti-spyware programs. They are designed to protect applications on your computer from being changed, but in this case updating the software is a change you want to allow.

  • Problem upgrading to iTunes 9: Apple Application Support not found

Today, when iTunes prompted me to upgrade to iTunes 9, I tried to do it, but once I got done, iTunes no longer worked. Each time, I try to open it, it says, "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\pthreadVC2.dll is either not designed to run on windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support." When I click out of that, I get an error 7.
I have tried at least three times completely uninstalling iTunes & QuickTime, then reinstalling, but the result is always the same. I've spent the last three hours trying to fix this problem; meanwhile, neither iTunes nor QuickTimes works.
I cannot find how to download the Apple Application Support anywhere on their website. Is this a bug in the new version? HELP PLEASE!

  • Problems upgrading to iTunes 7.4

hi - i recently purchased the new 80gig iPOD classic and tried to synch with my PC last night. When connected I received an error that the iPOD would only work with iTunes version 7.4 and that I needed to upgrade(was running 7.2). However, after downloading and attempting to install 7.4, I now receive an error "iTunes has stopped working" when trying to launch iTunes 7.4.
Anyone else having this problem or know of a solution?

    chuck wagon,
I took a look at the details of your crash. I have a few questions for you:
    - Did your computer come with Vista pre-installed or did you upgrade it from XP?
    - Do you have a lot of extra fonts installed on your computer?
    - What is the version of \Program Files\Windows\System32\riched20.dll on your computer (right-click the file, choose Properties, click the Details tab, and give me the File Version.
    - Do you have multiple copies of riched20.dll on your system? If so, please provide the version info for all of them.

  • Problems signing into itunes store account from windows vista

I have recently downloaded the latest version of itunes for a new computer running Windows Vista. I already have an apple ID account to use with the store and have been able to access this on other computers, but every time I try to sign in on the new computer it has an error message that the "network connection has timed out". I have searched for help for this, which appears to be a common issue, and all the recommended solutions like checking firewall settings have not helped as I am still unable to sign in. My internet connection is fine, and I am able to access the store itself, just not my account.
If anyone could help with this problem I would be very grateful.

Excellent. If you ever want to uninstall that trial Norton, keep in mind that you need a special removal tool from Symantec. Simply uninstalling it via Add/Remove Programs does NOT delete it from your PC. It really is horrible software.

  • Problem upgrading to itunes 10.5

I upgraded my imac to itunes 10.5 without problem. I'm now trying to upgrade a Windows PC running XP and half way through the install I get this message:

This is my wife's PC. There is no admin login. How can I get around this?

  • Upgraded to iTunes 8.2 from 8.0 because I bought iPhone. Now audio is crap!

I installed the latest version of itunes because I bought an iPhone 3G, and now the vocals on tracks are low, the balance doesn't work and there is hissing and popping. I updated the audio driver and Direct X driver and it is still occuring. Anyone able to help?

I had this same problem this morning and I was literally in tears!!!
I clicked 'file' and 'add folder to library' and selected the 'my music' folder - it restored everything including apps, recent downloads from tesco and amazon and CDs that I have recently added but not yet backed up.. I am now really wary though!!

  • Problems Upgrading to Lightroom 2.1 from 2.0

I keep getting error messages when I try to upgrade from Lightroom 2.0 to 2.1. The 2.0 version is a purchased and registered version.
Is the system overloaded or has a bug come that caused them to stop 2.1 downloads?
I use MiniDM and after about a minute I get a message "Fail to check URL" in the mini window.
I tried four times. Different times of the day and the result is the same everytime.
    Has a problem come up?
I have windows vista, pentium 4, 3 gig of memory.

Obvious thing to try is to not do that.

  • Problems Upgrading to 10.3.x from 10.2.0

I have an iBook 500MHz 256MB of RAM 8MB of VRAM. Right now it is running Mac OS X 10.2 (6C115). I have been trying to bring it back up to at least 10.3 (as it doesn't have a DVD drive so my 10.4 disk won't work). I have been trying for quite some time now. When I boot from the install CD it goes through all of the normal things except when it gets to the page where you select which drive you will install the OS on, there are no drives that can be selected.
I have downloaded the update to 10.2.1 and the combo-update to 10.2.8 but when I try to expand the .dmg it gives an
error that reads "The application cannot be launched because this system is incompatible".
Can anyone give me an idea of where to go from here? I can just format the drive and do a complete reinstall, but I'd like to weigh all of my other options first. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    thanks,
    Joel

    Hi Joel!
You may find some additional info below. Please excuse any repetition of previous replies.
Mac OS X Versions 10.1, 10.2, 10.3, and 10.4, are complete system upgrades that must be purchased.
The point upgrades, such as 10.1.x to 10.1.5 (Final) 10.2.x to 10.2.8 (Final), 10.3.x to 10.3.9 (Final), and 10.4.x to 10.4.8 (Pending), can be downloaded for free.
Tiger is available for purchase at The Apple Store (US).
Panther, is no longer available directly from the Apple Online Store, as Tiger 10.4.x is the most up to date OS.
A Full Retail Version, of the Panther Install CDs, or a Full Retail Version of the Tiger Install DVD, can be purchased rather inexpensively, at some online Apple retailers, Amazon, eBay, AppleRescue, etc.
Be sure not to purchase grey, upgrade or machine specific CDs or DVDs.
Panther is only on CDs, not DVDs.

Once Panther 10.3.x is installed, you can use the 10.3.9 Combo Update, to upgrade to the final version.
If your Mac meets the System Requirements for Tiger, you could also consider installing that.
And then use the PPC 10.4.8 Combo Update.

  • Upgraded to iTunes 6 - now iTunes won't work!

I have an older G4 and have been running iTunes since I upgraded to OSX about a year and a half ago. Never any problems. Just recently got an iPod from a friend and have been using that with no probs. for about 2 weeks. I was promped to update both iTunes and iPod software and did so like I always have. Now iTunes wont open at all. no error message, nothing. I trashed my old iTunes and re-installed a new one, no good. All of my software is updated. I am running OSX 10.3.9. I have seen many of the same postings but they all seem to be coming from PC users... hope someone can point me in the right direction.
    Thanks!

I had the same problem - upgraded to ITunes 6 and suddenly the application stopped working. I also tried uninstalling, and reinstalling old versions as well as v6. I called Apple, and they had me set up a test user to see if it was a systemwide failure (if it was just the upgraded Itunes on my main user that was affected, then the basic Itunes available for the test user should be fine). But it was systemwide, so I had to back up all data and reinstall the operating system, then run a software update to get my system back up to speed. After the software update, I ran a disc permissions repair to the drive (available under "Applications", then "Utilities", then "Disk Utility"), which is recommended after each install of software or software updates (I didn't know this, being somewhat new to Mac). But now Itunes 6 works fine, with no problems! Hope this helps.
