Problems Upgrading to Larger hard drive for A105-S4074

The 120gig HDD in my A105-S4074 is full. I am running the original OS that the machine came preinstalled with: Windows XP Media Center with SP3. I bought a 320gig drive and the APRICORN EZ-UP-UNIVERSAL 2.5" USB 2.0 Hard Drive Upgrade Kit online. The new drive is a "TOSHIBA MK3265GSX 320GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Notebook Hard Drive".
I am not sure what the specs are for the BIOS but it's the original configuration...I have never updated/flashed the BIOS.
The Arconis EZ GIG III Software works perfectly in creating a copy of my old drive on the new bigger drive. When I swap the old for the new, the machine boots and runs exactly the same as it did with the old drive, but it won't "see" the extra 180gig of space until I add a new partition. After the partition is created, the machine STILL runs fine and I am able to move data over as normal. BUT when I REBOOT, the machine no longer loads windows.
In every attempt of configuring the 320gig drive differently (I have done a single partition as both an Extended and a Primary. In another attempt I created 2 partitions, both below 127gig in size, I have run the imaging software at least 4 times as well...) every time I reboot after the partitions are completed, the system will not load Windows. After the BIOS POSTs I get a black screen. I have tried booting to the old drive while it's in the external enclosure and connected via USB cable. Sometimes windows starts to load, but then it flashes quickly to a Blue Screen and goes back to black nothingness. The blue screen flashes too quickly for me to read the error message.
I am pretty much at the end of my ability to troubleshoot. I don't think the issue is with the new drive as it works fine until the extra space is partitioned. I don't think the issue is the Acronis Upgrade software as it does it's job of making a copy of my old drive perfectly as well.
So what I would like to know, but haven't been able to find via searches online is this: What, if any, is the HDD size limitation of Windows XP SP 3?

You can install the new hard disk yourself if you want to. You just need a 2'5" SATA II hard drive, which is compatible with your MacBook Pro. You can buy one at OWC > http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/hard-drives/2.5-Notebook/ You can filter hard drives by computer, so press a "Click to view all...", choose your computer in the sidebar and it will give you the compatible hard drives.
There are different brands for the MacBook Pro. The most recommended are HGST and Seagate, which have good reputation. A 7200 rpm hard drive will give you extra performance

Apple TV need larger hard drive for High Definition

When will Apple invest in putting out a larger capacity Apple TV? When you download TV shows in HD, it also downloads in standard definition as well. This makes for a large stored file.
Once folks understand the beauty of downloading programs, tv and movies and music, I think folks will start to use it more. Apple did not do such a good job in marketing this wonderful product.
Like to see one with larger capacity.

Actually no, just sounds like I am.
Let me try to explain from other direction.
Lets say my mother-in-law gets and AppleTV because she heard about it and how great it is. However, she doesn't have a computer. The ads for it tout how you don't need a computer which is true. Thus if she bought it, she will be limited to the HD of the AppleTV and the documentaion states the approx number of movies, tv-shows, etc she can fit. Thus for her, she would want the largest drive possible since all she can do is watch what she buys via the AppleTV. Now this type of user with no computer I have to believe is rare, but they do exisit. Those users I can understand needing a larger drive.
Now for rest of users with a computer, I would have to assume the large majority of them have a computer already with music, video, etc on it. Those users most likely are going to choose the SYNC option thus they can put content locally onto the AppleTV. In doing so it puts the AppleTV in the mode that anything bought via the AppleTV WILL not only download to the AppleTV, but also SYNC back to the main library as the official copy that the user is responsible for backing up as we all know.
So for a user that SYNCs that means ALL content MUST exisit on the main computer (or of course network drive if that is the setup) so in the end, what is the point of paying more for a larger drive on the AppleTV when in the end all the content must exisit elsewhere via the main library of the computer it syncs too? One could save the money and go with the smaller drive on the AppleTV and invest in a large drive for the network (eg: 1-TB external drive).
From the users point of view (if they leave iTunes open on main library computer) they will see all content on the AppleTV (local to AppleTV and those still on main computer not synced due to no room left on AppleTV, but can stream still). For users that end up closing iTunes on the main library computer, then they will only see what is synced to the AppleTV which could be a more limited selection than what they want.
But for me (I know what I say here not all may agree with), but I leave iTunes open on main computer, thus AppleTV always shows all my content even though not all is synced. I have it only sycn the 5 most recent unwatched movies and 10 most recent unwatched tv shows, and all my music. Thus any NEW tv/movies I have WILL be on the AppleTV for quick playback and not have to worry about network hiccups etc. I also have all my music to play anytime. I can also choose to play any tv/movie that is older and it will just stream. But since my most recent stuff is ON the AppleTV, I know I can take it with me on travel and have my new content with me, or if network goes down, I still have my new stuff always handy.
There is a third type of user that only STREAMs content thus they are like the first type (my mother-in-law example) that since the only data that can be put ON the AppleTV is that which is bought from the AppleTV directly and since it doesn't SYNC it stays on the AppleTV with no place to go, then those type of users need a larger drive...but I don't understand these users that only stream...if you have a computer, sync to it to get legit copies onto your computer drives and not stuck on the AppleTV that you could lose if somethng goes wrong.

i bought a new 320GB hard drive. what's the best way to get my old OS and apps and files transferred to the new drive from the old drive? can i copy from old drive to usb drive and then to new drive? problem is, i have no way to hook up both the old drive and new drive at the same time

You will need both a USB external interface as well as special software to image the old drive onto the new one. Probably the cheapest and easiest way to do this is with Apricorn DriveWire which comes with appropriate software.

Want to upgrade to larger hard drive on IMAC 21.5 mid 2011

My IMAC is HD is almost full and causing my IMAC to run very slow. I have moved iPhoto to an external drive and deleted my imovies but hasn't helped much. Is it possible replace the 1tb drive with a larger one?
Right now I feel like I am using a Windows machine instead of a Mac, everything runs so slow!

Another (and easier) solution would be to get an external drive to hold all your photos and movies and whatever else is filling up your drive and keep a good amount of empty space on your internal drive. Once you move your iPhoto library, you can delete them on your internal.
Another question: how much RAM do you have?

Is it a USB hard drive? USB hard drives have the problem of not giving full speed if they are hooked up on the same bus as keyboards and mice. Double check your profiler to make sure that is not a problem. If it is Firewire, make sure there aren't other firewire devices in use at the same time. I recommend not only keeping a Time Machine backup, but also a clone, and if you do use Time Machine, to make sure the Time Machine drive or partition is at least twice the size of the original drive.

We have an early 2008 imac and we realize it is not long for this world but we would like to get a few more months out of it until we can afford a newer one. Can we put in a larger hard drive and add some memory?

How to prepare hard drive for installaton of PSE 13 upgrade

I would like to install PSE 13 upgrade on a notebook where I have PSE 5 installed. How should I prepare the hard drive for the installation? Should I uninstall PSE 5 before installling PSE 13? I have found that uninstall programs leave files behind does Adobe have a cleaning tool?
The notebook is a Dell, Latitude E6400, Intel Core 2 Duo CPU 2.27GHz 2 GB RAM
32-bit operating system, Windows 7 Ultimate Service Pack 1

KCav45 we do have the CC Cleaner Tool available at Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6. The most which it would remove from Photoshop Elements 5 would be the licensing files. Even for Photoshop Elements 13 the uninstaller must be run first and only the licensing files are affected.
I would recommend running the uninstaller available through the Programs and Features Control Panel to remove the Photoshop Elements 5 installation. Your photos should not be affected.
I did find Use Backup, Restore to move catalog | Organizer | Elements 6 or later although I am unsure if it is relevant for Photoshop Elements 5. If you have questions regarding transferring the photos, and any tags or organization you have done, to Photoshop Elements 13 I would recommend posting in the Photoshop Elements forum at Photoshop Elements. The community in that forum will be more familiar with the topic of moving your photos.

There has never been a reliable firewire ---> USB adapter suitable for external high speed storage. This was a major issue when the MacBooks lost the firewire port a number of years ago (Apple subsequently brought it back).
The only high speed port on the Air is the ThunderBolt port. There are external ThunderBolt drive options out there, but they're somewhat more expensive than traditional USB/FireWire options.

PATA/IDE laptop drives have gone the way of dodo bird, for the most part.

It will throw a "2010 error" on boot, but will work perfectly nevertheless. I've used these drives exclusively prior to converting my fleet T43p units to SATA.

Upgrading to a larger hard drive?

I'm considering upgrading my MBP hard drive to one that has more space and want to get more info to see how much of a hassle it would or would not be. I bought my MBP last February right at the end of the month when they had that slight upgrade in HD size and speed. It has the 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM and has a 200 GB hard drive.
I would like to upgrade to a 320 GB drive and was wondering if this is something Apple stores did? If not, does anything I do to the memory or hard drive automatically void the extended AppleCare plan that I have?
Also, are there official Apple-made internal hard drives or am I just looking at third party? And if so, are there certain companies that you recommend above others? I have always bought Western Digital externals.
And, if I upgrade to a larger hard drive, does that mean I should also upgrade to more RAM? Or is getting a hard drive with a higher number of rpm sufficient?
I did a search but wasn't getting many answers to these questions other than seeing that an Apple certified repair place can to do this. I actually found one near me that looks Apple certified, so I might give them a call. http://www.macprosolutions.com/

You will find this link useful in regards to the question on warranty after upgrading the drive. Both answers over there are in my experience spot on.
So given that you will need to either use a third party service like TechRestore or do the upgrade yourself. (I recently did it myself and so have no experience with 3rd parties.)
To your other questions - Apple does not make their own hard drives, they use drives from other manufacturers. So you need to buy a reputable brand 2.5" SATA disk - Seagate, Western Digital, Fujitsu are the ones recommended most often.
You do not need to upgrade RAM in the computer to just upgrade the Hard Disk - those are totally different things.
