Problems upgrading to Windows 10 on HP Pavilion DM1 Notebook

The Notebook is curently running Windows 7 Professional and I have been running the Windows 10 upgrade.  It goes through the first install and re-boot and then on the second phase when it is installing drivers it gets to 71% and reboots with a blue screen, I think  displaying as ATTEMPTED EXECUTE OF NO EXECUTE MEMORY but it is not up very long so I am not sure and rolls back to Windows 7.  I have tried disconnecting external devices, tried a clean boot, tried updating all the drivers, turning off the wifi and leaving it on a LAN only connection to no avail.  I have managed to updated a desk top pc to Windows 10 with only a little difficulty even though Windows decided the display driver was not compatible, so this is a real puzzle.

Thank you. No, Kaspersky was not installed, and I have never installed it. Is it used by McAfee, as it is sometimes bundled with Acrobat Reader? I installed it once in an update and removed it immediately. Anyway I found this file registered twice in C:\Windows\System32\Drivers and in a sub folder, it was not related to any existing process so I deleted it, tried the upgrade again and it completed this time. So for anyone else with this problem look for the file name after ATTEMPTED EXECUTE OF NO EXECUTE MEMORY when the blue screen comes up, which is very brief, and then delete that file. In my case it was kl1.sys. This was not however recorded in the report that appeared after the system rolled back to Windows 7. Problem solved.

  • Boot Sector problems upgrading to WIndows 7 on T61

I'm trying to upgrade my T61 (bought in Canada with Windows Vista) to Windows 7.  However, the installation aborts partway through, with the message "Windows cannot write to the boot sector".  The most common solutions that I have found online do not work - there doesn't seem to be any problem with my registry - and it appears that the boot sector has become corrupted, although I cannot notice any problem with normal operation.
One solution I have found to this problem is to use the Windows Vista installation disk to "repair" the boot sector.  However, my T61 didn't come with Vista disks, just the Lenovo R&R package.  I haven't found a way to repair the boot sector this way.
Without some help I don't think I'll be able to perform the upgrade.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Fixed my own problem.  The Windows 7 installation disk was able to repair the boot sector.  All I needed to do was boot from the Windows 7 disks and follow the instructions for "repair" operating system.

Your particular experience with Windows 8 will be determined by the capabilities of your PC.
HP is providing upgrade instructions and drivers will be available for most Windows 7 systems sold after 1st October 2011.
If you want to restore the original operating system after upgrading, you must create HP recovery media before you upgrade.

Windows 7 (and Windows Vista) PCs with touch screens will not have full Windows 8 touch capabilities after upgrade.
HP PCs with touch input hardware designed for Windows 7 (or Windows Vista) will provide a comparable experience for only two touch point applications after the upgrade to Windows 8. HP Windows PCs with touch input hardware will not support Windows 8 applications that require more than two simultaneous touch points. Additionally, Windows 8 edge swipes may not be available due to the recessed bezel on HP touch systems shipped with Windows 7 (and Window Vista).

I did a "clean" install of Windows 8 on my HP TouchSmart 320-1120m CTO Desktop Computer and had NO issues at all. If you do an actual "upgrade", please be aware that much of the HP value-added software that came with the computer will have to be uninstalled before doing the upgrade. You may also run into other minor issues with other software already on the computer. The only way to go back to Windows 7, is to use the HP Recovery Discs you should have already created. If you haven't yet created these discs, do so BEFORE upgrading to Windows 8.

    Hi,
Microsoft has a tool which is similar to Windows 7 Advisor for Windows 8 called Windows 8 Upgrade Assisstant . Please download the Assisstant and run on your machine:
       http://windows.microsoft.com/en-au/windows-8/upgrade-to-windows-8
Closely check the report to see CAN IT RUN or NOT.
    Good luck.

  • Having problem of unstalling SWEETIM from my HP Pavilion g6 Notebook PC

Hi, I use HP Pavilion g6 Notebook PC and the Operating system is windows 7 professional 32 - Bit Sersvice pack 1. For many months now I have been having difficulty trying to unstall SWEETIM from my Laptop. I don't know how this get installed in my Laptop. Each to time I try to unstall through UNSTALL PROGRAM from Control Panel it will not work. Below arethe responses I usually receive: "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable, click OK to try again or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package, SweetIMsetup.msi in the box below" If I clicked OK, it will say installation  source for this is not available. This has been a big problem to me. I really want to Unstall this from my computer. I would be grateful  I can get a reply on how to achieve this.

Hi there , I understand that you are having trouble removing SWEETIM from your system. I am happy to help  with this. Ok, it seems you have become infected with SWEETIM, which is one of many forms of malware. Often there are tools you can find online with instructions on how to remove a specific type of malware. You can investigate those, but I recommend caution as some of those are themselves sources of malware, spyware, etc. First here is some information that may be of use to you.
About Spyware, Adware, and Browser Hijacking SoftwareHP PCs - Using Windows Defender to Prevent Malware Problems (Windows 7) Microsoft resources and guidance for removal of malware and viruses - support.microsoft.com After that, normally the solution HP would suggest is a recovery of the factory image, to eliminate the infection. Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 7)
Troubleshooting HP System Recovery Problems (Windows 7) If you wish to preserve your data you can try to make a backup, but you would want to be sure your backup is not also going to load the same malware or viruses on your system. You can also look at a local computer service to clean your machine, or try one of the online tools.

  • No sound after installing windows 7 on HP Pavilion dv1710us Notebook PC

I recently helped my uncle install windows 7 on his HP Pavilion dv1710us Notebook PC
and there was no sound after installation.. i downloaded several drivers for the realtek high definition audio driver (R2.39, 38, 37, etc)
then i tried the original driver from the HP drivers page and installed it.
usually when there is no sound, there would be a red X on the volume icon, but when i installed the original driver from the HP drivers page, there was no more red X.. Thinking that the sound was fixed, I tried to go on youtube and watch a video... i see the green bar moving up and down on the volume slide, but then i can't hear anything.
So is there any realtek high definition audio driver compatible for windows 7 on the HP pavilion dv1710us?
Is there something I have to do, like right click on the application and then change compatibility settings?
    thanks in advance.

I got it to work with windows 7 32 bit. I just went to hp website to support and downloads section. Type in your model number, then select windows xp as the operating system. Then download the audio driver and save it to your desktop. After the file is on your desktop you need to right click on it and click properties, then go to compatability tab and tell it to install as windows xp service pack 3. Hit apply then install. Hope it works for ya, worked for me.

Windows 8 recognized the sound device but there is no response on the internal or external speakers.  The video display is also lagging... not smooth replays.  I couldn't find any windows 8 drivers.

    Hi,
    Try something like this.
Download and instal the latest Intel chipset driver from here.
    Reboot system.
Download and instal the latest Intel graphics driver from here (if you are using 32-bit system) or from here (if you are using 64-bit system).
    Note:
I can not promise that this solution will solve the problem, or even that you can install Intel graphics driver.
This may be also problem with overheating. Clean the vents of your notebook using compressed air.

It is not easy to understand what kind of problem you have, because you gave us is not so much detail in what circumstances the problem occurs.
    About the audio problem.
Press the key combination Windows key + R and type in the filed box devmgmt.msc
Right click each device with yellow exclamation mark ( ) and choose ' Properties '. Next select ' Details ' tab, use the dropdown selector to choose Hardware Ids and paste all the values from there to the next reply. There is a chance that this information will help me help you.

  • Touchpad irratic behavior that I can no longer control on Pavilion dm1 notebook

I have Pavilion dm1-4210 notebook with Windows 7.  Touchpad is Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad.  When I first turn computer on, TouchPad usually works fine for maybe an hour or so. Then, all of a sudden the curser takes on a life of its own and refuses to move around the screen as it should.  If I try to move curser UP OR DOWN, the arrow turns into a small vertical rectangle that will not move.  All the rectangle does is reduce the view properties of the screen (reminds me of what you see when using the middle dial on a mouse).  If I try to move curser to the RIGHT OR LEFT, the curser turns into either a little cross with a vertical and a horizontal double arrow, OR a litte diamond symbol with 4 little boxes in it, yet it will not move around the screen.  Also sometimes cursor jumps to left side of screen on its own.  I cannot get the curser to return to normal, except by banging on the touchpad in frustration, which I know is not a very good repair technique.  Otherwise I have to re-boot for the touchpad/cursor to go back to normal, but that is becoming a real pain.  The other time this happens is often right after I plug in a flash drive or external hard drive.  NOTE:  this problem is ONLY when I am using the TouchPad.  I never have any problems when I am using a wireless mouse, so the problem is specifically with the TouchPad.  When I run internal troubleshooting, or the HP driver check online, every test says the TouchPad is operating normally and the driver is up to date.  But there clearly is something wrong, but beats me what it is.  Any ideas?

    Hi,
First try uninstalling and reinstalling the touchpad drivers...
To uninstall the touchpad go to Control Panel and Add/Remove programs.Select Synaptic Touchpad and click uninstall or remove..Restart the computer and then download the driver from the link below:
    Synaptics TouchPad Driver
You can also refer this link to adjust few settings in the touchpad that may fix.Try diabling the gesture controls and check:
Turning all gestures off and on
    Note:
If you have HP Support Assistant installed on the computer(The Blue Question Mark) then open it ==> Complete all pending Updates & Tuneups==> Restart and Check. It may solve your problem

    HI,
did your friend installed the XP from a MS Cd or from the Toshiba recovery CD?
At my Toshiba notebook the autoplay section is also setted to Music file and works properly!
When did this failure occured for the first time? Did you used the MS System recovery option at Start - Accessories - system prog. - System recovery
Perhaps the backsetting of your system solve the problem!
You can also check if a firmware update is available for your drive! (If it is a Toshiba drive go to http://www.toshiba-europe.com/storage/index.asp?nav=HOM&page=HOM&frame=home

  • HP Pavilion dm1 Notebook PC processor upgrade

    Hello,
I've recently purchased a HP Pavilion dm1z 4170us. I've had it for approximately 3 weeks and really enjoyed it. However I've found that the processor isn't really performing at the level i need. I'm currently utilizing the Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-2367M CPU @ 1.40GHz. I am wanting to upgrade this but I have little experience in performing such a replacement. So any information I could receive pertaining to this procedure would be greatly helpful. This would include what processor options I have and the steps in replacing it. If you need any more information about the notebook or anything else feel free to ask. This is my first post on this forum so I apologize if I posted to the wrong board. Thanks again for for any help.

    Hi,
This is a manual for your laptop:
    http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04162986.pdf
It looks like the CPU is soldered to the motherboard because I can't find any AMD CPU as a spare part and also the motherboards are listed with each processor separately. That means the only option to get a better CPU is to replace the motherboard with the cpu already on it. In my opinion this entire series is a low voltage one and NOT GOOD for gaming. I have searched part number for the best possible motherboard and can't find any. It's going to be extremely expensive anyway.

  • Install hybrid drive on Pavilion DM1 notebook pc

I bought a Toshiba 1gig hybrid HDD to replace the HDD (500Gig) in my DM1 so I thought it would be a simple job of clone the old to new and swap HDD. How wrong can one be?
I've done this before, just a few weeks ago, replacing a HDD on my main PC with a Toshiba SSD. Got the Toshiba cloning utility (NTI Echo) and 30 minutes later it was up and running.
So tried NTI Echo to do the DM1 afterall it was a Toshiba Hybrid disc I bought. The Clone started as usual by rebooting into the utility, an error flashed on the screen then a fail message "Can't find Source Disc"
No matter how many times I try it can't find the Source Disc.
    What's going on?

F12 does nothing on this PC.

via email but not getting anywhere.
I eventually got it working by creating a recovery USB stick using the HP Tools facility.
With the new HDD in the Netbook I used the USB recovery to recreate the factory setup which got me to a booting netbook but as it left the factory.
I then copied the C partition (using DriveImage XML) off the old HDD to the new HDD which got me to a booting netbook mostly as it was before I decided to put a new HDD in.
I copied the recovery and hp tools partitions also with DriveImage XML.
Now I'm struggling with getting Outlook (2000) working as I prefer it to Windows Live Mail.
Beware the time taken to copy partitions. The C partition was 250Gbyte and took 29+ hours to copy!!!!!!!!!!
If your Tech Support keeps emailing me I will continue to provide information to them.

  • WiFi (Key) stopped working after upgrade to Windows 10

I thought I would post this on the forum for those who are having the same problem because help for this issue is few and far between compared to the number of pleas for assistance from HP owners. When I upgraded to Windows 10 on my Pavilion, the WiFi stopped working and I could not turn it on using the hot key (F12). I searched for answers and worked hours trying to solve it until I came upon the only suggestion that worked for me: I had to disable fast boot (power options, change what the buttons do, "change settings that are currently unavailable" (?!?)) , so I could get into the bios and then I went into the bios by pressing f10 during boot.  Reset them to defaults.  (Changed from default back to what I wanted) saved and the wifi button turned white after pressing during windows 10 boot up. EDIT: If it does not turn on right away, try turning it on through the wifi settings. I hope this can help a few, who like me, struggled endlessly for a problem that few HP mods seem to be responding to. Cheers.
