Problems: User account deleted, rebooting indefinitely...

As I was normally browsing, I get an alert, paraphrased here: Access for assistive devices is turned off; turn on to use Textexpander. So I head along to the universal access preference pane, and there when I check "Enable access for assistive devices", it immediately unchecks itself. I close System Preferences and try again, and this time it brings up the authorization window, where I need to enter my username/password. The username field is blank (it's normally filled with my name), but nevertheless, I type in my username & password, and lo and behold, it tells me that user does not exist. (I have no other user on the computer).
So I go to the accounts preference pane, and it's completely blank!
I click on my name in the menubar and go to the Login Window. After a long pause (with a blank blue screen), I get the Leopard intro video, and then setup assistant shows up. I fill in all the fields, finish up with the assistant, and back I am the video. No way to get out of this, so I restart. Now I get the apple logo, spinning thing, black, and back to the apple logo. Just keeps restarting.
I've checked many online forums, and I think the problem is that my user's value (whatever that means) has been set to zero. I can't change anything because I have only command-line access to my mac, and I don't know how to deal with this stuff on the terminal.
I'd be grateful for ANY help.
Thanks...
(As to what might have caused the problem, I can only think of: I ran iPatch earlier this afternoon. Maybe that corrupted something?)

  • User account delete?

I am cleaning out my iMac (gift to daughter) and I have initiated a user account delete (the secure option I think it's called).  It has been trucking along for several hours now so I am wondering how long this could take.
Of course, I never thought of trashing all of my pictures and music beofre starting this so I guess this is what is taking so much time.
I don't think attempting to stop would be a good idea.
Opinions and suggestions as always are welcomed.
    Cheers!

Depends on the size of the account.  Could take many hours, as OSX is writing zeros over every byte.

Probably correct;  I've never dared to try it.

  • User Account deleted, but Home folder still visible

Deleted a user account within the System Preferences > Accounts and restarted the computer, but the "deleted" account is still visible under Finder > Users.
It failed to delete the account when I tried to 1st option of saving to .DMG - so I chose the 3rd option i.e.: to remove the Home folder. this seemed to work OK as the User Account is no longer presented as available to Login.
    Don't understand why?
    Thanks

Apple offers the option saving the user file as a disk image or delete the account, but keep the files in the account, or get rid of it entirely. The first two options make it possible to recreate the user account. You must move the file out of the User directory to rename (remove (deleted)) from the name. Place the folder back into the User directory and create another login using the same name as the file and the system will ask you if you want to use the above mentioned folder as the home folder. Click yes and the user is back as if it never left.
Why would I want to bother? You might find that there was something left in the user folder that you want to retrieve. Another reason, I consider even more significant is if I am having problems with a user account and it is isolated to that account, I will use this method to hopefully clear up any corruption within the account.

  • Admin User account deleted by MCXCDeleteAccount at shutdown

I have a MacBook Pro that occasionally on shutdown deletes the User Account with admin privileges when I shutdown. The home directory is not deleted, only the account information. The system log segment has the following entries. Any clues to why this would be happening, or how I can stop it from happening again:

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
This is a real puzzle - there have been a number of related reports recently:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2675891
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2684412
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=12731083
    Your log includes:
    1/24/11 6:04:14 PM ManagedClient818 -xaDiskDisappeared: removing
external account "alan" with home "/Users/alan" from DSLocal because disk
    disappeared.
Is "alan" your regular user account? If so, is it supposed to be local to your HD? (the log report calls it "external account 'alan'")
There have been suggestions in the other threads that the trigger for the inappropriate account destruction by the system might involve the unexpected disconnection of an external USB drive. The situation isn't at all clear, though.

  • Why won't user account delete

I just purchased a MacBook Pro and transfered data form my old PowerBook G4 to it. I'm trying to delete a user account but it won't do it despite asking if I want to delete this account. Any ideas why and/or how I can delete it?

Well it could be because the PowerBook G4 is a rather old machine and OS and migration assistant did the best job it could under the circumstances.
I would transfer your files to the first user created on the machine via the "Shared" box under the Users folder, and when your up and complete, then delete the one created via the migration assistant from the PB G4.
Perhaps consider backing up your files to a storage drive and performing troubleshooting steps in my extensive post here

  • User Account Deleted event ID concern

It is my understanding that when a user account is deleted in AD an event should be generated with ID 4726 (assuming you have auditing enabled), however in my company this does not appear to be the case, and i'm wondering why. I just tested this after being
unable to track down a user deletion earlier. When i delete a user account, the only event generated is 5141 (Directory Service Change). Am i missing something here? I have "Audit Account Management" set to success and failure. Everywhere i read
online tells me a 4726 event should be generated but it is not.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
Thank you so much for your sharing!
Your response is very beneficial to other people who have similar issues.

  • User account deletions

    Hi,
Im hoping someone can help! This may not make perfect sense but hopefully can catch my meaning.
I deleted an account and home folder due to some form of account related corruption.
i would like to recreate the account again (same full name & account name) but just want to make sure that once an account is deleted it doesn't cache. last thing i want to do is recreate the account and it caches on some information from the former corrupt home folder.
    i hope this makes sense

Nope, doesn't cache. However, if you opted to save the deleted account's data, it'll be as a disk image within /Users/Deleted Users/. Recreating the account allows recovery of that user's data files.

  • User Account deletion

    Hi,
During deprovision of a resource account i need to remove the resource account only from
the IDM side. The account present in end system should remain as it is.
If I use the below code it will delete the account from end system too. Am I right?
    <remove>
         <ref>userview.waveset.resources</ref>
         <s>AD Resource</s>
         </remove>
Can anyone please gimme the correct code for this scenario.
    Thanks

Below is a snippet of code that I currently am using in production-- give it a shot.

  • Migrated User Account Keyboard Problem AFTER Login

I have a brand-new MacBookPro (with multi-touch trackpad) that came with Leopard preinstalled. When I first started up the new computer, I set up a new administrator user account first. Then I used Migration Assistant to migrate my primary user account from my PowerBook G4, which is running the latest version of Tiger. I can log into my old user account with the same password I have always used, and everything looks fine--my old desktop is there, my Mail, iCal and iTunes settings all look great, etc.--but I can't use the keyboard. I can use the mouse to click on menus; the keys for the volume and backlight controls work, and some of the keys on the right side of the keyboard work (which seems particularly weird), but I can't do anything else with the keyboard. When I log out of the account and try to go back to the new admin account, the keyboard no longer works at all until I reboot. If I go directly into the new admin account, the keyboard is fine; it only starts locking up AFTER I log into my old user account. I have not had any keyboard problems with any other user accounts that I have created from scratch on the MacBookPro, nor have I had problems with the other user accounts I migrated from the PowerBook. After consulting with an Apple rep on the phone, I have tried the following things:
    1. deleting my migrated keychain file on the problem user account and letting it make a new login keychain;
    2. deleting the original default keychain on the PowerBook and re-running the Migration Assistant;
    3. deleting the problem user on the MacBookPro using the option of creating a disk image, and then creating an empty file in the Users folder with the same name as the problem user account and then dragging the files from the disk image into the folder, and then creating a new version of the user account with the same name, password, etc.;
    4. running Disk Utility to fix permissions (multiple times);
    5. I have completely erased and reinstalled the system on the MacBookPro using the install DVDs twice. The first time, I ran Migration Assistant immediately after the "Welcome," and the second time I set up a new administrator account first and then ran Migration Assistant.
    6. I have also tried the steps outlined in this article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306840.
    7. I have tried moving my user files over by hand but then I have a ton of permission problems and I was having trouble getting my Mail settings/mailboxes to move over properly. I've spent hours and hours on this.
I have NEVER had so much trouble upgrading to a new computer or a new OS in all the years I've owned Macs! What am I missing???

Well...I'm not sure which of the following fixed my problem, but once I realized it was something to do with the numeric keypad keys, I went into both the Keyboard & Mouse preferences and the Universal Access preferences and I made sure that I set everything back to the default settings. I suspect that going to Keyboard&Mouse-->Keyboard Shortcuts and clicking on "Restore Defaults" is what did the trick. So far, so good. I hope this helps somebody else; I couldn't find anything else anywhere about this somewhat quirky problem.

  • Safari problem & how do I do admin user account  fix

Using Safari 1.3.2, QT 6.5.2, OSX.3.9 on Mac G4. I have not chosen to upgrade to QT 7 or Tiger because of other apps on this machine.
Safari crashes when I try to empty cache. Problem started after upgrade to above and installing flip4mac. - not sure which caused the problem.
I've already thrown out the suggested things from Safari prefs, plist, cache files from prefs, etc. I also trashed all of the fllip4mac pieces. Didn't fix the problem.
The only solution has been to log in as a different user. So, I guess I have to fix or delete and re-do the problem user account, which is my main admin. user account. I see that the dialogue box says I can save the user folder items into a "deleted user" folder.
Before taking this step, I want to know what happens then? Do I just drag the items back into the new admin. account? I would like some info before I take this step - don't want any regrets. If I can and do drag stuff back, any chance it would bring the problem with it? Will I get all my setting back? How about a step x step on setting up as new admin.?

    Hi Chris
I can't help with a step by step - but did you simply trash the f4m files or run the uninstaller.pkg ??
Below is the list of commands that the uninstaller uses to remove/reset everything that was changed when f4m was installed. Possibly you didn't locate all these files?.

  • User accounts get deleted automatically

    Hi Guys,
there is a very strange problem. I create user accounts in domain but they get deleted after 10-15 minutes. event id 4726 is left in event viewer showing a user is deleted.
any help would be so appreciated.
    Thanks and regards,
    Bahman

    Hi,
Once you have completed the above settings. The appropriate events will generate if the user account changes occur including user account deletion. The next step is analyzing the event ids.
    Event ids to be analyzed:
    4726 - A user account was deleted.
5141 - A directory service object was deleted.
By comparing the these two event ids you can get a complete picture on user account deletion.
Checkout the below links regarding information on event id,

  • How to recreate a deleted user account w/ same email address

    Hi,
I have a MacMini running Maverics 10.9.1 and Server 3.0.1. In the server, I also have the Open Directory running, but there are no Local Network Users configured at the moment.
I deleted one of my Local Users from the server and would now like to recreate the account with the same email address as the old one had.
When I try to do this, I get an error message from the Server>Users>New User scree saying "The email address [email protected] is already in use".
Apparently the user deletion from the Server>Users screen did not compeltely delete the Local User from the server. How can I get the user including the old mailbox completely deleted?
    wbr,
    tatu

Just one more piece of detail: the reason why I deleted this account was because every time someone sent it an email to address [email protected] it got delivered to [email protected]
After the Local User account deletion now, apparently the [email protected] still works but all mail is piped to [email protected]
So, how do I disable/fix this [email protected]>[email protected] pipe and then how do I remove the old [email protected] mail box out of the server completely?
    wbr,
    tatu

  • User account missing files and preferences??  Not from renaming home folder

    Hi all,
After some strange behaviour in Apple Color, upon rebooting, my user account has returned to default. I had many items on the desktop and various subfolders in the documents folder. All pictures. Music. All are now gone. Desktop and dock have been reset to default.
The user folder still exists but everything I had in there is gone.
Another user may have been created called "root" containing only
    /Library
    /Documents/Color Documents...etc
I am aware of the problem with changing the short name or renaming the home folder (after sifting through this forum) and it is definitely not this problem.
Maybe its somehow related but I definitely did not rename any of these things myself. And there is no duplicated user account with all my files in it.
Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers
    Nate
ps. Is it possible to restore the system to an earlier time like in Windows?
I've read somewhere that a Previous System folder exists and it might be possible with Disk Utility but I can't find this folder anywhere.

    Hi there,
Thanks for the reply. I've managed to restore most of my important stuff using a file recovery software so I'm at peace with the loss of only a few files now. I'll just have to start rebuilding my dock and preferences again now which is not the end of the world.
After a bit of thinking about it I'm 95% sure this is what happened.
Color tried to save an image file with the same name as the folder I had made storing all my Color project saves. The folder was called Post. I'm not quite sure how its possible but it managed to overwrite the folder with the new image file. Now there is a Color image file (with no extension) there called Post and no folder.
Then I tried to save the Color project and of course it told me the project directory was missing and it will create a new one. I'm guessing this is when Color bulldozed through my user account to create the folder Color Documents where it DIDN'T save the file anyway
Leaving me with a default user account deleting everything that was 'added' to the account previously.
It also created another user account called 'root' in which there is also only a Color Library/preferences and documents folder
Is that normal that things like that can just happen?
I guess from here I will just try and finish my project and afterwards do a re-install of the OS just to be sure - checking the Archive and Install option this time
Unless you have any other ideas from what I've told you.
    Thanks again for replying
    Nate

  • How do i move my user account to a new account

I have had so many problems with main main account on my G5. I want to create a new admin account and migrate my key chains and network settings and so forth, but without using the archive install. I do have a paid .mac account and do sync my key chains and such to it. Unfortunately, i have a lot of music files and such too.
what is the procedure to move these items without causing permission issues. any ideas?

If you want to retain the same username/password combo, then, after creating and logging into the new admin user account, delete the original, saving its data (placed into /Users/Deleted Users/ as a disk image. Recreate the original, log into it, mount the saved data disk image, and transfer the stuff to the recreated account. Do note that if there were conflicts in the original, you just might be duplicating the problem.
