Problems using a printer shared by a Windows XP PC

I'm having problems seeing my shared printers on my mac mini. The shared printers are hooked up to a Windows XP PC. There is another PC on the network that is running Windows 7. All 3 machines can access one another with respect to files. I have the Workgroup on all machines set to the same name. The printer shares are set up properly on the XP PC; the Windows 7 PC can use the printers and I might add that the mac mini can use them too when I'm running Windows 7 via bootcamp....it's just a no go with Snow Leopard.
When I use 'Print & Fax' in 'System Preferences' and try to add a printer (clicking the '+' icon) I don't see my printer on the 'Add Printer' dialog that is invoked after clicking '+'. I'm choosing the'Windows' toolbar icon at the top of the dialog...everything is grayed out and as I said just above, I don't
see my network. What am I overlooking?
Thanks for any pointers!

Do you have Mac printer drivers for that printer in your Mac?

The thing is, this MUST be an Audition CC issue for two reasons. One, everything worked fine in CS6, which I was using right before I upgraded to CC. I even did a clean install of it by removing CS6 completely.
All versions of Audition can co-exist on the same machine quite happily - there is no interaction between them at all, and the system was designed to be like this. So there's nothing to stop you keeping CS5.5, CS6, CC and even Audition3 on the same machine.
The other thing I'm wondering about is Windows 8. There have been a considerable number of complaints about this doing weird things, including with Audition. I have a system that in many ways is very similar to yours, except that I don't overclock the mobo, and use a professional sound device (or two) with it (RME). The major difference though is that I use Windows 7 pro 64-bit, and I haven't had any of these problems at all. Yes I use it for a living, as well, but I don't bother with multiple DAWs - don't have time for all that these days. But I do use iZotope's RX software in its standalone mode without any difficulty.
I'm not claiming that  Audition CC is trouble-free - any number of Mac users will confirm that - but people running it on W7 certainly seem to have far fewer problems with it. It may also be worth trying an uninstall-reinstall of CC - you never know. But differences in preview quality certainly point towards audio drivers, I'm afraid...

  • Printer won't print pages using Airport printer sharing

I am getting this message when I try to print anything using the printer sharing on my airport.
"Unable to read response header - short read" Nothing will print and I have tried deleting and re-adding the printer. The printer works when plugging in the computer directly but it won't work if I try to wirelessly print using the Airport. I'm confused as to what needs to be changed on the Airport.

Does anyone know what is going on with my airport?

  • Print Sharing in a Windows environment

I have a windows wireless network at home with two PCs and twp printers that are shared through windows print sharing. I have an iBook G4 that I use at work and I want to print at home.
It works great for networking but I can't get it to print. I have set up the printers but the main problem is that it doesn't recognize the correct printer model. In my case the printers are a Canon IP5000 and HP Laserjet 1012. I see the printers in the windows network but can't get the correct model.
I have installed all of the printer drivers but from what Canon and HP tell me, the drivers only work if the printer is attached the computer. HELP!
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)
    iBook G$

See the detailed instructions found at http://www.efelix.co.uk/tech/3004.html . The key to understanding why this is so difficult is knowing that the OS X printer drivers provided by inkjet printer manufacturers don't support network printing to Windows shared printers.
For the Laserjet 1012, you will need to install the printer driver HPIJS along with Ghostscript - see http://www.linuxprinting.org/macosx/hpijs/
Printing to the Canon IP5000 will only be possible using the driver provided by PrintFab - and that will cost you approximately $60.

  • Problem with HP Printer Sharing?

I have an HP laserjet 1022 printer that has always worked shared. It's connected to my iMac via usb, and I have always been able to print to it with printer sharing. A few weeks ago however, the print sharing with my macmini and macbook wasn't working. Usually I delete and then readd the printer, but it didn't work this time. Also, now it recognizes the printer, but its trying to use the wrong ?driver? It's trying to use Generic PostScript instead of the normal 1022 it used to use. After my macbook was stolen, I tried to set the printer sharing up with my new macbook pro. That didn't work either. I called HP, but they said there was nothing they could do because it isn't a network printer, it's just printer sharing, and therefore a mac thing. What do I do?

Hi there, I just wanted to let you know what has happened with my printer since.
I called hp, and they said that because the printer didn't have some sort of extended care plan, that they would charge me $45 or I could call Apple. They said specifically that it was Apple's problem (yeah right).
Talked to the most friendly techies ever, and they spent hours on the phone with me trying a bunch of different ideas. Apparently, from what we can figure out, hp simply stopped updating the drivers. When I did try to download the 1022 driver from the website again, it downloads, says its installing, but never actually functions and just disappears. So after everything, even trying the original install cd, we determined that we just can't get it to work.
    One interesting thing though:
The printer is plugged into my imac, and I was trying to print to it (using printer sharing) from my macmini, macbook, or macbook pro. None worked.
But, if I plugged in the printer to any other one of those computers via usb and tried to print wirelessly from the imac, it worked perfectly!
Hope things work out for you!

  • Trying to add a printer shared by a Windows machine

Just got my first Mac - a Macbook - this week. I'm having some problems getting everything started.
One is my printer. I have an HP desktop with an HP PSC 1310 All-in-one attached and shared on my wireless network. My Macbook is easily able to connect to the network, but I can't seem to find a way to use the printer through the network.
I have tried using the Add Printer utility. I can find the correct workgroup, and I see the computer name, but when I "choose" that computer, I see a new dialog box asking me with which name and password do I want to connect to the printer. I don't need a password to log on to the computer or printer, and I can't find the actual printer anywhere. Can someone help me?

i dunno if this would be the solution, but maybe you could search online for a driver for your printer that is compatible to run on your new mac and install it, restart and then try adding it to your printer list? when i got my new mac this past year i had to update some drivers for the new intel chip and this is what i did to get them to show up correctly...hope that helps

  • Setting up printer sharing with a Windows Vista printer

I am new to the Mac world and have been trying to set up printer sharing between my Macbook and HP PC. I have two HP's that I have been successful in sharing a printer with, but I can not figure out how to get the Macbook connected.

  • Using the print dialog box of Windows

    Hallo,
how can I use the Windows printing dialog box for selecting a printer ?
    (I use LabWindows 5.0.1)
    Regards HGalle

Our printing functions (PrintCtrl, PrintPanel, etc.) will bring up the print dialog if you select to show it in the function call. If you weren't using our print function, you can bring up the Windows print dialog box with the Windows SDK function PrintDlg. Consult SDK documentation for help with this function.

  • Problems with file/print sharing between macs

I just recently created a network between my mac pro and my imac. I discovered that the only way that I could share files/printers between the two is if I shut off the firewall on both machines. If I let the firewall 'allow only essential services ie, file and printer sharing, the machines would see each other and the printers, but would not allow either to connect. Any suggestions?

    Thanks a lot Frank.
The firewall has always been disabled, since I baught my iBook.
There's two issues, the irc app and the videocam app.
Guess the videoapp is an easier issue. The port is 2000-2002
The irc application is I think a little more complicated, it has two settings in the prefs file (the app is IRCLE):
    1. In the DCC prefs I flagged the "ADSL, Airport, IPNetRouter and have flagged the auto configure for the Public IP Number (151.51.138.131).
    2. There is also a Firewall prefs. I haven't done anything with this. There's an areal called "Ident Settings (OS X only)". There one can flag the "Run Ident on a different port than the usual 113" If one flags that, then you can choose the port (it says it must to be 1024 or greater). "Note: you may need to change your firewall rules to make ident work this way, redirect incoming ident data for TCP port 133 to the port set above"
    Does this make any sense?
    Thanks a lot again, really,
    Emmanuel

  • How can I print a LabView report using the printer font (not a windows font)?

My printer is connected via a com interface. For speed reason I have to use the font of the printer. I use the report generation VIs to generate my report. With the VI "Set Report Font.vi" its possible to choose a font but I think only windows fonts are accepted.
Printing from "WordPad" using printer fonts is no problem, just select font "15 CPI" for example. But how does it work with LabView?

Have you already tried this in LabVIEW? What results did you receive when you tried it?

  • Printing problems using a print server

I am having trouble printing across my local network to some printers. This is a mixed wired and wireless LAN.Lan works fine as the windows machines print with no problems.
Printing takes place using a Trendnet TE 100-P21 Print Server. This box is connected to my network with a CAT6 cable. It has 2 USB and one Parallel port.
The Mac can print to the parallel printer with no problem. Installation was easy and painless. It found the other two printers (the USB ones) just as easily, installed drivers, etc. It even knows when they are idle or not.
_It can print to the HP 6L, which is the only one that has a parallel connection._ (I think that must be important)
_But it can’t print to the other two, both of which have USB connections._
Here are the Queue Names that the Mac reported. (In the below notations, P3 denotes the parallel printer port, U1 the first USB port, and U2 the second USB port on the print server.)
    HP6L (parallel)
    URL: dnssd://PS-700AED-P3._printer.tcp.local.
    *Cannon i9900* (USB)
    URL: dnssd://PS-700AED-U1._printer.tcp.local.
    *HP ColorLaserJet 3500* (USB)
    URL: dnssd://PS-700AED-U2._printer.tcp.local.
Windows machines on the network can print to all three printer with no problem, so we know printers, print server, network and cables work. When hooked up directly to the printer (at least the HP 3500) the Mac can print as well. But not when connected via the print server.
Eventually the job times out and the HP 3500 spits out a page that reads
    PCL XL error
    System: KERNEL
    Error: IllegalTag
    Operator: Vendor Unique
    Position 8
    Any thoughts?

I assure you that changing print server will not fix this issue. You MUST have a CUPS driver to print to a non-postscript, not-intended-for-network printer via the standard comm protocols available in OS X and on nearly all print servers. The Gutenprint drivers included by Apple are CUPS drivers, as opposed to the old Mac-style "monolithic" drivers.
    * It is true that using a postscript driver to print to a postscript printer would work for the TrendNet as well as nearly All other print servers. Postscript is the native output (well, along with "packaged postscript" = PDF) of OS X, so a postscript driver IS A CUPS driver by default.
I hope this helps you avoid the hassle of buying another brand of print server, only to find out out it is the same.

    Please check this

    Microsoft Excel*
    Text files (.txt)

  • LR Printing problems using HP printer

I am using LR 1.1, Vista 64 bit and network-connected HP 3210 all-in-one printer and printing Raw photos.
    1. Why are prints from LR washed out, brownish while printing same photo from Photoshop CS2 with same printer setting(profile, paper, paper quality...) looks very good?
    2. Why can´t I see any ICC profiles in dropdown menu in Color management/profile/other in LR? HP does not seems to provide ICC profiles for 3210. This hinders me to explore the manage by application option.
Yes, I know that there are several entries already in the forum regarding problems with printing. I think I have tried all suggestions without satifying result so I had to add one more entry.

I've had the same problem with my PSC 2175 and my powerbook and Tiger with airport until I tried using the browser Firefox. Firefox allows me to print web pages directly from the internet on my HP2175 even when Safari, IE, and Netscape do not...even Preview works and prints better on downloaded files from Firefox than files from other browsers. It does still tend to put an empty page in between each printed page but at least it's printing...
I can't promise it'll work for you as well as it worked for me, but I'd say it's free so it's worth a try after all the months of frustration.
    Good luck.

  • Successful using Java Print Service API on Windows 32 Platform

    Hello,
Using the JSP API supplied with JDK1.4, I was able to print successfully the following types of documents :
    1. Text
    2. GIF, JPG... (images)
    3. PostScript files.
But could not print "HTML" files. THe problem is that the HTML files are getting printed as text files with all the HTML tags.
    Any pointers are appreciated.
    Thanks
    TJ

You will need to load the html into something that can render html. The printer doesn't know how to do it. It just sees plain text that you are sending. Try using JTextPane or JEditorPane (I think). It can render html files for you. Then just print that component.
    1) Create JEditorPane or JTextPane.
    2) Set contents of pane as the html file or string you want to print.
    3) Use the Graphics2D API to adjust the component coordinate space to the printer coordinate space.
    4) Render the component (JEditorPane or JTextPane) on the printer.
There is a very nice tutorial for printing components here: http://www.apl.jhu.edu/~hall/java/Swing-Tutorial/Swing-Tutorial-Printing.html.
    Hope this helps.
