Problems Using iPhoto 11 9.4.2 OSX 10.8.2

1.     Why do photos emailed from iPhoto turn up in my 'inbox' instead of in my 'sent' box in mail?
2.     If you misstype your password/username when sending images from iPhoto, it will not allow you to try again.
3.     If you select a photo in iPhoto and click on Edit, nothing happens - no tools.   If you go to iPhoto in top bar and to Edit, again there is nothing you can use to edit with.
4.     Will Apple fix iPhoto so that you can save images directly to iPhoto from emails?
We will start with the above 4 problems.

1.     Why do photos emailed from iPhoto turn up in my 'inbox' instead of in my 'sent' box in mail?
because you are not using mail as your e-mail client - you are using iPhoto - if yo want mail (thich I personally recommend) set it as the email client in the iPhoto preferences
2.     If you misstype your password/username when sending images from iPhoto, it will not allow you to try again.
when using iPhoto as the email client iPhoto preferences ==> accounts
3.     If you select a photo in iPhoto and click on Edit, nothing happens - no tools.   If you go to iPhoto in top bar and to Edit, again there is nothing you can use to edit with.
if you open an event, double click a photo to enlaege it and click on edit in the menu bar at the bottom exactly what happens?
4.     Will Apple fix iPhoto so that you can save images directly to iPhoto from emails?
no one here has any idea what Apple will do and under the TOU for this forum fobid speculation on Apple policies

  • Problems using iPhoto on an iBook G3

I have an iBook G3 with OSX 10.4.2. Frequently (two times!) it start erasing all the icons of my library of photographs, then, if I recharge the pictures in the library, I can see the icons again but near of it there is an "empty" icon with the same name. What happens? Maybe the G3 doesn't support the OSX or iPhoto 5? Thank you.

    Valerio:
Did you rename or move any files/folder within the iPhoto Library folder from the Finder?
If the library rebuilding by iPhoto doesn't help try rebuilding the library with iPhoto Library Manager. It creates a new library by copying the files and necessary data from the old library. This will create a new database file which may be damaged in you current library and causing the problem. Here's how:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: It can take some time to create the new library if you have a lot of photos. One user reported that with a library of about 5,000 images it took about 12 hours so plan ahead.
Good luck. Post back if this doesn't help and we can work out a workflow to create a new library from the original files in your current one.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

  • Problems using iPhoto via Screen Sharing

To deal with our family's ever-growing photo library, I bought a new Mac Mini with a jumbo hard drive. For now, I want to run this as a headless server so that whoever wants to can work with the photo library from whichever of our other Macs is handy, so I've set it up with Screen Sharing.
So far so good, I've copied the iPhoto library there and things seem to work well except for one important detail: When I try to see/edit the detail of any photo, I just get a black screen! Or rather, the iPhoto window contains a big black rectangle where the photo should be. If I touch the zoom control, the navigation mini-view shows up correctly, but I still can't see the picture itself. Oddly enough, if I look at the detail of a video, I can see the first frame (but no more than that, the "play" button doesn't do anything).
I'm running Mac OS X 10.6.7 on both machines, iPhoto '11 (9.1.3) on the server.
I realize that I can access the photo library directly from iPhoto on the "client" using iPhoto's built-in sharing mechanism, but that won't give me full control of the remote photo library.
    Has anyone else experienced this?

Do you see the same if you're working directly on the Mini?  Do you see anything in the middle of the black screen?  Maybe something like this:
If so then that's an indication that the file path to the original file has been broken.
So make a temporary, duplicate copy of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
NOTE: You do know that you can connect an external HD to the Mini and let the other computer log into it and access the library on the EHD for full access to the photos, right? However, doing so wirelessly is dangerous due to dropouts that can occur and if they do while the library's database file is being written to the database can be damaged.  So if you're wirelessly connected between the two Macs screen sharing would be the safest way to go. If you're wired then the other method would be optimal.

  • Problem using aol mail in mail osx

hi, my aunt just switched over to the brand new mac mini and she's using her aol screen name for her email in mail osx but for some reason the only person she can't email is me and I have the MobileMe email adress. She can email people with comcast, web tv, and gmail but not me. It says the out going server can't send it. What do you think could be the problem??
    Thanks

Check with her ISP but it sounds like she might need to edit the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) entry to add an alternative server than the one she is using as the default. For example her outgoing mail server might be mail.serviceprovider.whatever so she might have to add an entry in the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) list such as smtp.serviceprovider.whatever.

  • Anyone have a problem using iPhoto "change date of photo" function?

I imported some old photos today and need to sent the time on them. I selected the photos and used the "Change date of photo" function. It worked fine on the first set. I tried adjust a second set and that's where problem began. I needed to change the date from 01-01-2002 to the correct date of 05-28-2004. I photo instead set the date to somewhere in 1989. I thought I must have typed the date wrong. So I selected the photos and tried again. Nope, it wasn't me. The date on the photos was set back to some time in 1983. I tried several more time... Well, lets just say I have photos dated in the 1700's..

I had searched the forum and could not find anything. Maybe someone knows where is is.
I fixed the photos the "brute force" way.
I deleted them from the library.
Changed the date on the files on a different computer and imported them again.
However this seam like a crap way to fix a iPhoto issue.
I hope that I don't need to fix the time on any more photos..
    Clarence.

  • My problem using iPhoto Having the horizontal lines going through the  photo when printing of a website

My problem is using the I Photo and printing a picture with horizontal lines going through it

Your topic title and topic content are a bit confusing?  Are you printing a website page? That would be thru Safari or other browser.
Or is a photo from a website?  If so how was it imported into iPhoto?
Also what system and iPhoto version are your running?
Does the photo print correctly from Preview or other application?
What's the pixel dimensions of the image?
How much free space do you have on your boot drive?

  • Problem using iPhoto via NAS from 2 computers

I have an iPhoto library stored on a Network Attached Storage (NAS) drive on my home wireless LAN. My wife and I each have a MacBook that we use to open the library from the NAS. I recently added some photos to the library using my MacBook. When I open the same library from my wife's MacBook, I cannot see all of the photos. In fact, the list of Events that you see when I open the library from my MacBook is very different from what we see when we open the same library from her MacBook. When I open it I can see 497 photos, but when she opens it we can only see 70 photos.
Can anyone help with this issue? Thank you!!

would I be able to use the photos across the network?
What do you mean by “use”? Certainly wireless is perfectly good for viewing another Library via iPhoto Sharing.
If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and move to the other machine. There, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Any user can drag a pic from the Shared Library to their own in the iPhoto Window.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both machines for this to work.
If, however, you want the other two machines to have full access - i.e. Ownership - of the Library, then bluntly, I would not trust my iPhoto Library on a wireless connection.

  • Calendar layout problem using iPhoto 09

With the 6 photo layout option the largest photo started out as a vertical, just like the menu selection suggests. However, after replacing some of the other photos, the desired vertical became a horizontal. The actual image requires the portrait style (vertical), but we cannot get it back. Can anyone offer suggestions how to return that photo to a vertical?

it probably depends on the order you place the photos - see liz Castro's web site for a general discussion - http://www.iphotobookthemes.com/pmwiki.php?n=Main.OriginalOrientation - probably the only way is to experiment

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

To diagnose problems with Thunderbird, try the following:
*Restart the operating system in '''[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Safe_mode safe mode with Networking]'''. This loads only the very basics needed to start your computer while enabling an Internet connection. Click on your operating system for instructions on how to start in safe mode: [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/windows-startup-settings-including-safe-mode Windows 8], [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-computer-safe-mode#start-computer-safe-mode=windows-7 Windows 7], [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-computer-safe-mode#start-computer-safe-mode=windows-vista Windows Vista], [http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/boot_failsafe.mspx?mfr=true" Windows XP], [http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1564 OSX]
; If safe mode for the operating system fixes the issue, there's other software in your computer that's causing problems. Possibilities include but not limited to: AV scanning, virus/malware, background downloads such as program updates.

I'm using iPhoto 11, and instead of seeing my images in the main view, I see only outlines. (Had same problem in iPhoto 10 before upgrade to Lion Help!
I'm on a Macbook Pro and all of my software is up-to-date.
The photos and events, etc. appear to be present in my photo library, but I cannot see the actual images--only an outlined placeholder.

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to rebuild the thumbnails. This can take 3 or 4 goes to work.

Well if you're library is gone and you have no back up then you can try a File Recovery app like
    File Salvage

Do you get this window when you hold down the Command+Option keys and launch iPhoto?
If not then you're not holding down both keys long enough.
