Problems using larger text

I have a few machines using Appleworks and trying to use larger text. When they are typing text with a 48 or 72 pt font the cursor is behind 3 letters. Is there any way to fix this?

AppleWorks, being an OS 9 application carbonized to run in OS X, doesn't take advantage of a lot of OS X features, one being the display of text. This is not something that got fixed with the 6.2.9 update. Usually turning Fractional Character Widths on in Preferences > General… > Topic: Text will fix the problem. It is not at all unusual for the problem to appear on one Mac & not another, even though they are running the exact same system & AppleWorks version. It even can vary document to document on the same Mac.

SQL Developer paste problem for large text in Linux

Hello,
I have a problem. I cannot paste large text (> 5000 lines) into the editor of a clob column. Pasting in general works. I mean I can paste the whole content e.g. to gedit or I can paste partially the text into the sql developer editor but not as a whole.
Colleagues on a Mac can paste the text into the editor. So it should not be about DB settings.
Can anyone tell me which setting I have to change?

Exit labview (executables) after using large text files

Hello,
I am using LabView 6.0 and his aplication builder / runtime engine. I wrote some VI`s to convert large Tab delimited textfiles (up to 50 mb). When I am finished with the file it is staying in the memory somehow and is staggered with other (text)files in such a way the computer is slowing down.
When I want to exit the VI (program) it will take a very long time to get lost of the program (resetting LabView) and get my speed back.
How kan I solve this problem for these large files?

OK, this may be a bit of a problem to track down, but let's start.
First, while your front panel looks great, your code is very hard to read. Overlapping elements, multiple nested structures and a liberal use of locals make this a problem. My first suggestion would be to with a massive cleanup operation. Make more room, make wires straight, make sure things are going left-to-right, make subVIs, place some documentation and so on. You won't believe the difference this makes.
After you did that, we can turn to find the problems. Some likely suspects are the local variables and the array functions. You use many local variables and perform resizing operations which are certain to generate copies. If you do this on arrays with dozens of MBs of data, this looks like the most likely source of the problem. Some suggestions to deal with this - if you have repeating code, make subVIs or move the code outside of the structures, so that it only has to be run once. Also, you seem to have some redundant code. For instance, you open the file only to see if you get an error. You should be able to do this with the VIs in the advanced palette without opening it (and you won't need to close it, either). Another example - you check the exit conditions in many places in your code. If your loop runs fast enough, there is no need for it. Some more suggestions - use shift registers instead of locals and avoid setting the same properties over and over again in the loop.
After you do these, it will probably be much easier to find the problem.
To learn more about LabVIEW, I suggest you try searching this site and google for LabVIEW tutorials. Here and here are a couple you can start with. You can also contact your local NI office and join one of their courses.
In addition, I suggest you read the LabVIEW style guide and the LabVIEW user manual (Help>>Search the LabVIEW Bookshelf).
And one last thing - having the VI run automatically and then use the Quit VI at the end is not very nice. Since you are building it, it will run automatically on its own and you can use the Application>>Kind property to quit only if it's an executable.

Problem using SVG text in FLASH --ViceVersa

I had been developing an application to read SVG files in to
flash.....i am successful in reading shapes,,with the path's....but
the biggest problem is with the "SVG text".......the positions of
text with respect to FLASH and SVG differs completely.....
As far as i know the origin differs from flash to
SVG.....Flash has it's left top as origin ....SVG has lower left as
origin....
when i scale or rotate the flash text ....if i need to
convert those in to SVG text..the problem arises....because the
SCALING and ROTATION acts very differently in SVG...when compared
to FLASH
iam struck here....pls anyone help me to find a
solution......

So you have IE8 and the hardware acceleration was able to be UNchecked and FP(Flash Player) is working properly with IE.
In IE flash works fine with any settings.
When I unchecked "Hardware acceleration" checbox in IE it also became unchecked in opera, but nothing changed in opera's behavior.
When you don't use the Aero it's displayed correctly but the settings do not work. What settings are you referring to?

In both cases the settings dialog is displayed like in the screenshots above, but when I click on checkbox/tabs/'close' button in it nothing happens. I can't change any settings or close it (dialog disappers only after reloading page)
Just to sum up everything mentioned above:
- In IE flash works fine regardless of any settings
- In Opera text is displayed wrong when using windows aero, and without aero theme it's displayed correct
- I didn't manage to make settings dialog work in Opera
- When I change some flash settings in IE, they are also changed in Opera
Now Flash Player works thru the browser, do you have perhaps have an addon that is conflicting? What Anti-Virus do you have Installed? Any addons of that?
I have 7 extensions installed in Opera, I've disabled all of them, but nothing changed.
I use Kaspersky Internet Security 2011, disabling it also gives nothing.

Problem using ebook text for LR4

I have been using the ebook text Classroom in a Book for Lightroom 4. I am working on two screens: Classroom in a Book is on the secondary screen; LR4 is on the main screen. I have gone through 4 of the lessons. At some point during Lesson 4 I must have done something and I can't figure out how to undo it. What happens is that Classroom in a Book disappears from the secondary screen when I move the curser from the secondary screen to the main screen where I work on LR4 exercises. What appears on the secondary screen is either a LR4 photo or a blank LR4 screen that says "No Photo Selected". I can get back to Classroom in a book if I move the curser to the left margin and click. But then I have to do this every time I move the curser from the secondary screen to the main screen. How do I undo this so that Classroom in a Book remains on the secondary screen as I go from one screen to the other screen. How do I undo this? Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not at all familiar with classroom or book, but since no else has responded I'll throw this out there.
Try going to Window -> Secondary Display and trying switching some of the options in there. Hope that helps

Problem with large text-files, HOWTO?

I'm making an application witch shall search through a dir with 3000 html-files, and find all links in those files.
I have a text files with the format:
file1: linktofile:linktofile6:linktofile5
file2: linktofile1:linktofile87:
and so on.
This file shall then be searched when I'm pressing hyperlinks in IExplorer. The problem is that this file is VERY long both "horizontally and vertical". Is there a clever way to shorten it?

If you have to search the entire contents of all 3000 files every time, then I don't see how that could be shortened. But if you have to search those files only for instances of "linktofile1295", for example, then you could redesign your text files into a database where you could access those instances directly via an index.

HELP! Problems using large memory on windows 2003(32bit) and Oracle 11g

i have Oracle 11g installed on windows 2003 enterprise server 32bit with 6GB RAM.
And I followed the steps to enable the Very Large Memory support:
1. add /3GB /PAE in c:\boot.ini
2. add AWE_WINDOW_MEMORY entry in the regitry and set it's value to 209715200
3. as for init.ora:
add:
dbblock_lru_latches = 64
db_block_size = 4096
db_block_buffers = 262144
remove the parameters: db_cache_size,sga_max_size
it does work when I use Oracle 10g, but for Oracle 11g, there are some errors:
ORA-00371: not enough shared pool memory, should be atleast **** bytes
OR
ORA-27102: out of memory
Can anybody share the experience in Oracle 11g?

It looks like you have set the memory 1gb after setting up /PAE and /3GB switch
4096*262144=1GB...
Then why did you set /3GB

Searching with large text

We are evaluating Oracle 10g specifically for its Oracle Text functionality and are having a difficult time trying to figure out how to use large text for searching.
Specifically, we have a table containing large, full-text descriptions that we wish to find using smaller abstracts. Our full-text may be anywhere from ten thousand to a hundred thousand characters in length. Our abstracts tend to be much smaller; in the five hundred character range.
We wish to use these smaller, five hundred character abstracts to locate documents that may be related based solely upon common keywords. We will eventually get into concept matching, but for now we simply wish to find document matches based upon keywords. This query is quite similar to ORing every term in the abstract and performing a CONTAINS query, but should hopefully be less clunky.
SQL Server allows us to do this quite simply by performing a freetext search. We plug our abstract into the search algorithm and receive a listing of documents that it deemed to be similar.
Does Oracle Text provide a similar functionality and, if so, can someone point me in the right direction?

We are currently using a tool mandated by our client to cluster documents and perform concept (theme) based searching. This tool does not, however, perform keyword searching. We are looking to supplement its results with keyword search results from, say, Oracle Text or SQL Server (or Google or any of 100 other keyword search capable tools on the market).
We already have a working prototype that uses SQL Server. Using fulltext keyword matching, it accepts an abstract and returns to us all of the documents that mostly closely match. We would like to also perform this test in Oracle Text, however, we are unable to figure out how to make Oracle accept a large text for searching without significant reformatting.
For example, say my text is "Four score and seven years ago". In SQL Server, I am able to pass this in, as is, and it will return to me the Gettysburg Address as its highest ranking match.
With Oracle Text, I was able to produce similar results, but I had to reformat the query string to "$Four$|score$|and$|seven$|years$|ago". I am looking for a way to pass in "Four score and seven years ago" without having to perform any gyrations on the text.

The same code is used in modify mode also. web application is sending all 3 lines in modify mode even if single line is modified. It is already decided to send all rows back from web application to SAP in same sequence. It is working fine if i comment 5 lines which is starting with *. But in modify mode, how can i ensure that correct row is modified? and how can i achieve problem of large no of lines on screen?Please suggest?

1. For this we need to know two things ;
   a) the database table in which the entries are already stored
   b) the sequence in which they are displayed in the transaction.
2. So before changing any line, we need to compare (the primary key values / important values)
   a) as per the database table and as per the incoming data from web application (using bapi)
b) if the match is ok, it means that particular row was not modified, else modified.

1. For this I am not sure about the transaction and its screen. Manytimes for appending row on the screen,
there is a PLUS + button on the grid toolbar. So for every entry, (inspite of some empty/filled rows already visible on the screen), we should use the + button, and this new row always appears on the top i.e. row number 1.

Problems using Siri to send text message

hi im having problems using Siri to send text messages on my iPhone 5.
When i try to send a message using Siri to somebody who does not own a iPhone Siri defaults the message to a iMessage instead of a standard text message, which then causes a message failure because the other person does not have a iPhone.
I have the setting turn on in the Messages setting to send as Text Message when iMessage is not avaliable but Siri still defaults the message to a iMessage and does not send it as a standard text message and results in a message failure.
am i doing something wrong or am i missing something?

Siri won't try to send an iMessage to a person who doesn't have a device with iMessage enabled.
If you open Messages, and select the same person with the keypad it should default to Text and not iMessage. That's exactly what will happen when Siri tries to send the message.
I just tried this on my phone to someone who doesn't have an iPhone and it worked exactly that way.

Problem with blob column index created using Oracle Text.

I'm running Oracle Database 10g 10.2.0.1.0 standard edition one, on windows server 2003 R2 x64.
I have a table with a blob column which contains pdf document.
Then, I create an index using the following script so that I can do fulltext search using Oracle Text.

However, the index is not searchable and I check the following tables created by database for my index and found them to be empty as well !!

My user has been granted the ctx_app role and I have other tables that store plain text which I use Oracle Text are fine. I even output the blob column and save as pdf file and they are fine.
However the database seems like not indexing my blob column although the index can be created without error.
Please advise.

The situation is I have already loaded a few pdf document into the table's blob column.
After I create the Oracle text index on this blob column, I find the system generated index tables listed in my earlier posting are empty, except for the 4th table.
Normally we'll see words inside the table where those are the words indexed by oracle text on my document.
As a result, no matter how i search for the index using select statement with contains operator, it will not give me any result.
I feel weird why the blob is not indexed. The content of the blob are actually valid because I tested this by export the content back to pdf and I can still view and search within the pdf.

PSE 11 TEXT problem. Underlining when I type using the TEXT tool.

I'm trying to create my signature in PSE 11. When I use the TEXT tool instead of it displaying the letters I type I'm getting nothing but underlining. If I type the letter L instead of the L I get_. Thanks.

Perhaps you need to widen the text layer to see the letterings correctly. To widen the layer, just drag one of the sides of the layer to see if this makes any difference.

Most comfortable AND practical cursor size for me seems to be midway between MAX and MIN. I like a minimum of 12 point text (14 is better) but some text is provided as an image in small type (useless) and many times editors allow 10 or even 8 point text. I don't want or need high contrast, I will not use flashing text, It would be nice to receive consideration and have this nightmare solved.

I know in Windows cursor size and features can be modified from the Windows control panel. It may be worth trying to ask on Mac sites to see it thy can help you.
