Problems using LIBRARY to access external DLL

Windows 2003, Oracle 10g and 11g.
We have an external dll that we can call using 'create library' and a wrapper function. The wrapper functios works well from SQL*Plus - our function is executed and the external dll does its work.
When we add the function to some Apex processing, the session hangs at the point at which the wrapper function is invoked and control never returns - we have to kill the database session.
Any ideas as to what might be happening? I thought that a permissions error would be returned immediately, I don't know what would just make the session hang.

  • Problem Using Aperture as an External Editor

    I'm having a problem using Aperture as an external editor for iPhoto. I've set preferences to "Edit in Aperture" and selected the Aperture application. When I click edit a photo in iPhoto, Aperture fires up as expected, but it does not load my photo. Nothing seems to be exported from iPhoto into Aperture.
    I can export the same photo to my desktop and then load it into Aperture fine.
    When I set preferences to edit in CS2, this works fine, only Aperture seems to be the problem.
    What am I doing wrong?
    I'm using the following versions:
    - iPhoto 7.0.2
    - Aperture 1.5.4

    If you have Photoshop CS2 then you'd have a better editor using it within iPhoto as follows:
    Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
    1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
    2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
    3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
    This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
    If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds
    Do you Twango?
    TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
    I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Major problems using DV cam with external drive connected. HELP

    I am running Final Cut Pro 5.0.4 and Quicktime Pro 7.0.4 and I want to use one of my external Firewire drives as my scratch disk, and when I connect my Canon GL2 FCP either crashes if it is open, or hangs when trying tro start uo if external hard drives are connected. As I need to use an external to capture to I really need to resolve this A.S.A.P.
    Thanks in advance for your reading and replying to my post,
    Sebastian

    firewire external hd is a perfectly acceptable medium for capturing footage. it works pretty flawlessly and has little issues or problems
    This type of blanket statement really can't be supported in my view.
    There are issues with single bus firewire captures.
    And many cams, including Canons, don't play well with firewire hard drives on the same bus.
    Glad it works for you, but that's doesn't mean it works for everyone.

  • Big problem- using ipod as an external Drive

    Hello
    Right now i am tring to save my School work (i do Homeschool) on myipod, using it as an External Drive. I plug my ipod, amd i go to my computer, and i see the ipodd drive, i open it, and after 5 seconds it colses by itself. Itunes does not open eiter, what shall i doÉ its really urgent!
    (doe sit have to do ith disabling Disk Mode? if yes, tell me how...cuz my itune is in French...and i do now how ou call that in French)
    Chris

    If you restore the iPod you will delete the files, so don't do it unless you have backups. Sorry I don't know about the error code.

  • Problems moving library from old external drive to new one

    I keep all my music on an external hard drive connected to my laptop at home. I am now spending several months away from home, and couldn't take my external drive with me.
    I planned to handle this by using iTunes backup feature to put my whole library on DVD, then buy a new external hard drive to take with me, and sse iTunes backup feature to rebuild the library on the new external HDD.
    However, I can't get the library to restore/re-load/re-import from the backup DVDs. The iTunes backup/restore instructions tell you to open iTunes then insert the backup DVD. When I do that, I get the following error message:
    "The Disc "Backup2007-07-09" cannot be read. An unknown error occurred (-69)."
    However, I can read the DVD using just going through My Computer, so I really don't believe it's a problem with the disc.
    So, if this backup method isn't working, how can I re-create my library on the new hard drive? I have dozens and dozens of playlists, a lot of them smart playlists that depend on such things as play count, rating, and date added, so i really need to keep all my tags.
    I thought of two possible work-arounds.
    Plan A: Copy all the music myself (ie, not using iTunes) onto the new external hard drive, using the same filename and path as they had on the old external hard drive, then import the Library.itl file that's on the backup DVD (manually copying over the default one created by iTunes).
    Would that work? The big annoyance of this plan, I should add, is that, looking at the files on the backup DVD, i can see that iTunes added a number behind each folder name (ie, "01 Al Green") and behind each album title (ie, "01 Al Green - Greatest Hits"). It seems to me I would have to go through and manually delete all the numerals in both artist and album names in order for the .itl file to point to the right place. That would take hours...
    Plan B: (Really not a great plan, but I'm grasping here...)
    Give up on the backup altogether. Keep adding music and podcasts to my library as is. All my music that is sitting on my far, far away home HDD will get the exclamation point next to it in iTunes. Then, when i try to sync the ipod, if i'm thinking this through right, iTunes will go ahead and add the new stuff to my ipod, but all the old stuff will just not copy over, and then at the end of syncing i'll get the error message to the effect of "itunes didn't copy song x because the file could not be found." This option is far from ideal, as my playlists won't update, but at least i'll still have the playlists.
    Do either of these sound like they would work?
    Any other suggestions?
    Any help would be very much appreciated.

    If you can you connect both external drives to the computer at the same time, it would be easier to use the "Consolidate Library" utility in iTunes to move (actually copy) your media to the new drive.
    1- Open iTunes preferences and select the Advanced tab. Change the location of your iTunes music folder to a location on your new drive. Also select the options "Keep iTunes music folder organized" and "Copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library". Close the preferences dialog.
    2- On the iTunes menu, select Advanced/Consolidate Library. This will gather all your media and copy it to the new location (the folder you designated in step 1).
    3- After the consolidation is complete, verify that your music still plays, and check "Get Info" on some items to verify that iTunes is looking at the new location.
    4- Optional. Delete the original files on your external drive. Do this only if you are certain that everything copied over to the new drive.
    5- Optional. Close iTunes and locate your "iTunes Library.itl" file. This is typically in your iTunes folder, which may be on your computer's drive and not the external drive. Move this file to somewhere on your new external drive. Next, hold the Shift key as you launch iTunes and you'll be prompted to "Create Library" or "Choose Library". Select "Choose Library" and navigate to where you put the "iTunes Library.itl" file. This is a one-time step that tells iTunes where to boot the library from.

  • Permission Problems After Clean Intall Accessing External Drives

    Okay, the ubiquitous permissions problem. Perhaps apple should release a system update that strips this BS out, as single users and home users, do we really need this? I'm just driving my Ferrari to the grocery store! It is just complications that nobody needs.
    So, with a fat chance of that happening, is there a DEFINITIVE paper/instruction on permissions? Please point me to it. I've tried here and there is nothing that seems to work for me. I'd like to NOT have to learn anything and continue without messing around with this crap, but it did it to me, so now I'm forced to screw around to fix it.
    (I used to be a system admin years ago so I can take a fairly technical approach, but I'd rather not. (Puh-leeze! No terminal instructions.)
    Here's my problem:
    Having had a problem with corrupt login items and being unable to uninstall them, (the machine crashed and rebooted) I was left to perform a clean install of my system.
    I have numerous hard drives attached.
    Well, upon a successful install and migration of settings from Safari and Firefox and such, I was gently told that a couple of my drives are not accessible by me, the user. (I can see'em, but some apps like transmission won't write to them. Or backup software cannot backup to them.) I'm currently setup up with my daily account/user as the admin, with the super-admin account dormant and not used, as I've been instructed. (My previous system had me using my super-admin account all the time.)
    How do I go about setting permissions to reaccess these drives without checking the "ignore permissions" box?
    Is the simplist thing to do, to just copy/backup the drives, erase them under my present account, and re-install the data to fix this permission BS?
    I've done the "fix permissions" thing and it does not help.
    Do drives that you create with a former system user, retain the user profile that created them even after you install a new system, thus causing this problem?
    Thanks
    Herkimer

    What users do you have defined on your system?
    Herkime wrote:
    Thanks for the help, guys. I downloaded the app and will take a look at that to fix my problems.
    What user do you want to use to look at the data?
    Decide what user you are going to logon as.
    Use BatChmod to make this the owner of the data. The group should be whatever is the group assigned to your logon user.
    Do drives that you create with a former system user, retain the user profile that created them even after you install a new system, thus causing this problem?
    Files you created with root still have root permissions.
    The other 5 diskes, internal, externals FW, and removeables FW toasters, were all created under the old system, using the super-admin user. That designation is gone. (Actually, I recreated the same name/login on the newly installed system, along with my everyday admin user log in.
    I get the feeling I'm stuck in a little permission limbo, as the disks are looking for the old super-user and that's gone. Correct?
    I assume by super-user you mean root. You can enable the root account again if you wish. There is not need.
    I'm not sure what user, or group I should be setting everything too, now. Me, as the admin/user or
    Who is Herk the super-admin? How did you define Herk.
    By definition super-user is root. You are not allowed to rename root. So the super user isn't Herk.
    A user can be given admin rights. This doesn't give the user super user/root rights. Root can read & write any file on the system. This root is the super user.
    By Herk do you mine you gave Herk admin rights?
    Bottom line:
    [] Decide what user you will be using on your system.
    [] Change all permission you your external drives to match user & group of that id.
    Some people define two user on their system. This way maybe more secure, but with more hassles.
    standard user
    admin user
    I run with one user:
    admin user. This lets me install programs without have to change to another user. It doesn't let me look at system data. I cannot look at other userids data. ( I want to look at data I do not have permissions to, I can use the terminal to gain access. )

  • Problems using Modbus TCP accessed by NI OPC Server

    Hi there,
    i'm using NI OPC-Server to access a measurement module. The buildup is quite easy, my system with NI OPC, a modbus gate and there the module connected with RS485.
    There's a thermocouple to provide me some sample data.
    But there's the point. I know, my data is in the Holding Registers and I can access them, but every data type I'm trying doesn't bring my my data out, just any other (sometimes Huge with e34, sometimes very small like e-13...) sorts, i can't understand.
    The type provided by the module should be single precision.
    In Lookout the address used to be is 41000 in Labview it's just 999 and in the "target" OPC-Server I get some values at 401000 but not useful.
    I also get the same results accessing 301000 in different types.
    Read/Write or Read Only is equal.
    I've tried to tell my OPC that the values are Strings, Floats, Words, BCD and all other possible ways OPC offers me, but nothing results in a usable temperature.
    I hope I missed something and you could suggest it.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Thanks for your reply.
    in LabVIEW I'm using the provided Modbus Libraries. If I unbundle the Holding registers, my value appears at Holding Register [0], I'm type casting it to single and get the sample temperature. (Address 999->unbundle->typecast->value)
    In NI OPC, I'm reading ( [depends on zero based addressing]  300999/301000 equal to 400999/401000) an already typecasted Holding Register [1] compared to LabVIEW (and the value changes in the second or third digit behind the comma and they are changing at the same time). Data type in the tag is float.
     Another disturbing thing is even if I change in the options "using zero-based addressing in registers" my value does not change.
    If I'm reading two addresses close to each other (as you mentioned 401000-401001) I'm getting an unknown data type and no results. How do I read multiple addresses without such errors? And how do I specify a special register to read?
    Scaling should not be the problem, I am having three ways to get my value (FTP-Server on the gate (just a *.dat file with correct type), software the the module manufacturer (while measuring and configuring the module) and LabVIEW(as can be seen above)) .
    Sadly, I have not found any useable modbus documentation about the module (just it can use modbus, you have the registers, you could read/write and fine)
    When I'm adding a second couple to the module, in LabVIEW Values in Holding Register [2] and Holding Register [3] appear and are changing.

  • Problems using SetCommState to configure external device

    Hello, I am trying to use the kernel32.lib function SetCommState to set the communications for and external I/O board. The board is by Sealevel Systems, and they supply VB example code. The problem I have is this: in the code, they run the function GetCommState, then they individually modify the baudrate, bytesize, parity, and stopbits to match the settings fo the device. Finally, they take the updaded settings and input them into the function SetCommState. This all works well in VB, where it is possible to set the baudrate, bytesize, etc. individualy, but in labview, I cannot seem to do this. So I either need to be able to set these individually, or I need to know the protocol for inputting all four parameters into SetCommState through labview. Another option is to use internal labview code (like VISA), but I am not sure that approach would work. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks,
    JOe

    If the I/O board presents its self as COM ports under windows (check this out using the Device Mangager) then I suspect that using VISA to configure the commstate should work nicely.

    The EXTERNAL is the host that is connected to an outside interface and that NAT rule works ok.
    I can ping the EXTERNAL host from the ASA but not from the internal network.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.

    Hmmm, by adding the following i got it working:
    nat (inside,outside) source static IPv6_HOST interface service https https

    nat (inside,outside) source static IPv6_HOST interface service ssh ssh

    nat (inside,outside) source static IPv6_HOST interface destination static IPv6_POP IPv6_POP
    nat (inside,outside) source dynamic inside interface destination static EXTERNAL EXTERNAL
    nat (inside,outside) source dynamic any interface
    It is a bit complicated though since the EXTERNAL host get it's address via DHCP and so does the ASA.

  • Problem using PAPI-WS for external process notifcation

    Hello,
    I'm trying to have an external Java application send a process notification using PAPI-WS.
    I have a process instance currently sitting at a notifcation wait step (configured to wait for an external notification) but each time I call processSendNotification I get the an unspported operation exception. I'm not even sure this is the correct ws operation to use but looking at the PAPI API reference it seemed the most likely.
    Below is a snippet from the code I'm testing this with and the corresponding output including the exception:
    for (InstanceInfoBean instance : instances.getInstances())
    String waitStep = "WaitForDelivery";
    System.out.println("-> process id = " + instance.getId());
    // find which instance are waiting on delivery

    Hello,
    I'm trying to have an external Java application send a process notification using PAPI-WS.
    I have a process instance currently sitting at a notifcation wait step (configured to wait for an external notification) but each time I call processSendNotification I get the an unspported operation exception. I'm not even sure this is the correct ws operation to use but looking at the PAPI API reference it seemed the most likely.
    Below is a snippet from the code I'm testing this with and the corresponding output including the exception:
    for (InstanceInfoBean instance : instances.getInstances())
    String waitStep = "WaitForDelivery";
    System.out.println("-> process id = " + instance.getId());
    // find which instance are waiting on delivery
    if (waitStep.equals(instance.getActivityName()))
    System.out.println(" -> " + instance.getAuthor() + " is waiting on delivery!");
    papiWebServicePort.processSendNotification(instance.getId(), waitStep, null, null);
    Process: WhatToHave
    -> process id = /WhatToHave#Default-1.0/2/0
    -> process id = /WhatToHave#Default-1.0/1/0
    -> Andy is waiting on delivery!

  • Problem using Jar to include external jars in an application

    Ok so, I've just completed a project, and i want to be able to jar it up so its executable by just using the jar file. I can do this, and it will load the first screen. However, i used eclipse to develop it so I just added two files to the eclipse path and it all worked. But when I jar up my application (and include the two external jars in my app), and try to use any class that needs the external jar, it dies and says java.lang.NoClassDefinitionError: javax/servlet/http/HttpServlet
    How do i set it up so it actually finds the classes in the external jar?? Its fairly important that i get this to work :)

    If this app is not running as part of Tomcat, you have two options. One, as ejp pointed out, is to put the missing jars into your $JAVA_HOME/lib/ext dir. If you've already tried that and it's not working, then the jars your putting there do not have the necessary classes in them. Use 'jar -tf <jarname>' to see a list of the classes in the jar.
    The second approach, which it sounds like you've already tried, is using the Class-Path entry in the Manifest file. You must make sure that the jar you're referencing (servlet.jar) has the missing classes in it, and that the jar is in the same directory as the application jar. Another potential gotcha with this approach is to make sure that the jar is not indexed (they're not indexed by default).

  • Problems using iTunes and my external drive.

    So I initially had a little trouble getting my iTunes to work smoothly with my external drive, a My Book 1Tb, but after a lot of trouble shooting and help from people on the forum I got it and it worked brilliantly. But now, it seems to have run out of gas, the drive is on (indicated by the blue light on the front of the case) but there is no disk image on my desktop and no matter how many time I 1) search for the drive, 2) disconnect it physically from the computer and reconnect it, 3) shut everything down and boot back up it is still unresponsive. I started having problems with my TimeMachine saying it could not back up files onto the disk and couldn't figure that problem out either. And now this, I am really hoping it isn't the drive, even though I thought it was. However, my Mac (iMac G5) has really been acting up now too.
    Every time I try to verify and repair the disk permissions in DiskUtility it freezes while still verifying. And my iTunes has been locking up and constantly unresponsive. I am not that savy with technology and so I am now at the end of my rope.
    Please help me solve my issues?

    You might want to take this over to the Leopard discussion group since it really sounds like it is a drive or computer issue. It will get better attention that way.

  • Save as Draft Problem using library computer

    This afternoon I tried to save-as-draft a LONG & INVOLVED communication in .MAC e-mail at a public computer in the library. When I went to my draft folder to ensure it got saved, it was not there. Can someone give me direction on this? I suppose it goes without saying how mad and upset I am. Thanks in advance for any light you can shed on this issue.

    Hi kvs2,
    You did log into .Mac mail online to check your Drafts folder there - right?
    Not the Drafts folder on your machine at home...
    When you click Save as Draft online, there should be a small green spinning wheel in the left side of the bar between the icons at top and the To:
    Also a confirmation "Your message has been saved to Drafts" along with a green checkmark will appear and then slowly fade away in that same spot.
    Regards,
    John

  • Problem Using GetNetText when accessing secured (https) sites

    I have been having trouble getting GetNetText &
    PostNetText to work with a secured (https) server. I need to
    execute PHP files located on this server. I have heard of SecureNet
    Xtra but before I try it I want to ask if there are other ways to
    do this. Thanks in advance.

    You should be able to access secure sites when running in
    Shockwave but
    not from a projector. Like you suggested, you'll need the
    SecureNet xtra
