Problems using Lightroom 3.2 in new pc laptop

Hi ,
I just installed lightroom 3.2 in a new laptop.
In my old laptop ,I had my photos and catalogue on external 500gig hard drives.
When I plug the Hard drive into the new laptop and click on the catalogue to open it ,not all of my setting have come across to the new machine.
For Example ,User presets in "Develop Module" and Metadata presets,copyright info etc are missing.
Can i someway export these settings so that Lightroom has the same presets etc on my new laptop without entering the information again?
Also , a second question.
If i was to use the internal 500gig hard drive in my new laptop to work on photos on location/in the car etc(im a press photographer).
What is my best way of taking them and backing them up to external hard drive later? Can i just drag and drop folders of photos to an external desktop hard drive or should i use some program and if so any recomendations?

Kindly try the below mentioned steps if you already have Lightroom 5 installed on your laptop.
Launch lightroom.
Click on help.
Click on Check for update.

Projector problems using Lightroom

I am a photography teacher in Germany. The school recently purchased a new high-end (HDMI) projector (40,000 Euros) The quality is incredible. The projector works perfectly when using PowerPoint and Windows Photo Viewer. When I open Lightroom, the projector periodically flashes on and off. The projector works perfectly for all the other teachers in a wide variety of applications. I need to find a solution to this problem as Lightroom represents my tool of choice for post processing. Below are my system details.
Computer and OS:
HP EliteBook 2760p
HP Docking station using a DisplayPort to HDMI cable to the projector
Windows 7
Lightroom 5.3
The IT staff at the school are very good and they do not know what is happening. I have tried several different cables and nothing appears to fix the problem.

To clarify, PowerPoint and Windows Photo Viewer work with YOUR laptop connected and only LR has an issue, correct? Does LR work at all and if so in what modules, how soon do you see the flashing, what color is the projector screen, is it displaying a message? It sounds like the HDMI handshake is getting dropped for some reason. My first suggestion is to refer to the user manual, online troubleshooting on the manufacturer's website, or contact the projector manufacturer's tech support. Also make sure you are using a "Certified" HDMI 1.3 cable form a name-brand manufacturer of no more than 3 meter length.
Other things to try:
Set the projector in Lightroom as the 2nd display (1 and 2 icons in lower left-hand corner). You may need to use Windows display setup Guided Help: Dual monitor setup is easy in Windows 7!
You might also try installing Lightroom on another laptop or desktop and see if the same issue occurs.

Problems using Lightroom wtih external Hard Disks

I having some problems with the latest Lightroom 1.2.
I import images (NEF+JPEG) onto my internal hard drive and everything is fine. Images look good and thumbnails display NEF+JPEG at the top right.
However , as soon as I move them onto an external drive (using lightroom) I start to have problems. First the thumbnails display JPEG+JPEG. Then all the images become wildly oversaturated and contrasty without me doing anything. Moving the images back to the internal HD (using lightroom again) causes only the JPEG files to be moved back. Of course the wild colour stays the same.
FYI I am using a Macbook Pro, 2GB RAM, OSX 10.4.10. External HD is 500GB with 150GB free

mmm, I have a similar problem - I bought a hard drive as my i-tunes library was eating up space on my laptop. It was fine at first, but now when I add cds it updates my i-pod no problem, but if I try to create playlists it says it can't find the tracks. I've tried consolidating my library but it didn't work. I'd be interested to know if any of the helpful suggestions you get work.

Problems using Lightroom 4

I have been using Lighroom4.3 for nearly a year now with no problems. All of a sudden, it refuses to import any of my NEF files from my SD card. I have tried all my SD cards to no avail. In the import window the files appear as thumbnails, but when I ask to import I get the message 'Files were not imported because they could not be read (3)'
Any one know what the problem is? My camera is a Nikon D3000.

Please check the permissions for the folder and/or the drive you are importing to carefully. In Windows it should be set to <Full Control>, on Mac its <Read and Write>.
Also, check if there is enough space left on the drive you are importing to.
The error message that you are getting includes the reading that Lr does of the imported file on the drive (so-called "backreading"). Backreading is done to make sure that the file on drive is correct.
This message points strongly that the drive or folder does not have sufficient permission. If it is set to <Read only> the import won't be possible.

Problems using Lightroom and Bridge/PS

I use both lightroom 3.6 and bridge/ps how do i manage my files because i have all of them working fine in bridge/ps but not working at all in lightroom , all it says is "file missing" when i open an image

Hint 2: I think one of the problems you are having is that there really is no benefit, and perhaps significant drawbacks, to using two different "organizing" software at the same time, Bridge and Lightroom. You might want to stop using Bridge, as you can do all of the organizing in Lightroom from now on

Problem using Bridge Photo Downloader with new camera

I have the new Olympus E5. I can't use the Photo Downloader in Bridge for RAW files. It doesn't convert the ORF ( RAW ) files to dng.

No, in the last several versions of PSE for mac prior to PSE 9, Adobe Bridge was included for keywording and such. The version of bridge that ships with the big Creative Suite programs includes the full Adobe Raw Converter, the one you get with full Photoshop. Elements has always had a somewhat cut down version of the Adobe raw converter--same basic plug-in, but doesn't have all the features enabled.
In PSE 8, for some reason the full features were not disabled in the version of bridge that ships with PSE (prior to that opening a file into the bridge converter showed you exactly the same features you got if you just opened a raw file directly into the PSE Editor's version of the converter). However, that was just a one-time thing. (I'm guessing they ran out of time or something).
But all versions of Elements include their own raw converter, with the smaller feature set, whether or not you use Bridge or Organizer. If you don't use bridge or organizer, you can open a raw file into the Elements editor by using File>Open, and that will bring up the PSE converter window.
In PSE 9, Adobe has stopped shipping any version of bridge, and now includes a version of the Organizer that windows PSE users have been getting. But you can still use bridge if you have it from PSE 8, only you can't update it anymore. You can still update the raw converter in PSE itself.

Why does the font size change unexpectedly when I use the touchpad with my new HP laptop with Windows 8?

Frequently the font size will change when the touchpad is touched. This is annoying! Is there a setting adjustment I can make to keep this from happening?

This is very experimental, but since no one else has replied...
I'm not sure which computers are affected, but Firefox has some support for touchpad "gestures" on multi-touch touchpads. Most of the ones that affect the zoom level of the page are the "pinching" gestures, like a smartphone screen. However, it seems that by default a "tap" will reset the zoom level, and that might be the problem here.
Could you try this?
(1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
(2) In the filter box, type or paste '''gest''' and pause while the list is filtered
(3) Double-click '''browser.gesture.tap''' and change it to... I'm not sure whether there is a command for "do nothing" but you could try typing or pasting in '''cmd_selectNone''' which cancels the current text selection in the page (if any).

Problems using bluetooth between my BB and my Laptop

I have paired both devices together, however when I try to send data from my laptop it says the other devie (My BB) isn't responding?
If you sent the file to a Bluetooth device, make sure the OBEX File Push Profile is installed <<< Would it have something to do with this?

Using Lightroom on a new hard drive

I've just had a new hard drive installed in my mac which I will use to import pictures onto (as well as load then onto an external hard drive)
As my version of Lightroom 3 is on the old hard drive, do I need to install it onto the new hard drive to get optimum speed and performance while using Lightroom ( I had the new hard drive installed and extra ram added to create more space and speed up performance)
If so, how to I re install the program (I bought the program online) ?

If it is an extra drive, then you need do nothing other than use it, although you may wish to move your catalog onto the drive.
If you have actually replaced the drive with the OS on it, then you will need to reinstall all your applications including LR. Just download the latest version from Adobe and use your serial number once installed.

Problems with Lightroom 5.2 and Olympus EM-1 RAW files?

There have been reports on DPREVIEW of color problems using Lightroom 5.2 with RAW files from the Olympus OM-D EM-1 camera. This causes difficulty creating camera profiles, and creates a red shift in Images. JPG images are unaffected.
Anyone else seeing this?
When may we look forward to LR 5.3, hopefully with a fix?

The read me file from Adobe indicate that LR 5.2 has "preliminary" support for the Olympus EM-1 raw files.
I would make sure you keep your original raw files so they can be converted when the support is finalized. i.e. I would not convert to dng on import if that is your normal workflow.

Using Lightroom in conjunction with a Lab using Bridge

I use Lightroom for my photography on my laptop. However, I am taking a class that uses a calibrate lab and printer setup that only uses Bridge and does not have Lightroom. I would like to manage the photos on lightroom, but export and import the photos to be printed and edited in the lab. Is there a way to do this slickly in Lightroom besides pulling each photo in and out each time? I know how to export in mass, but I don't know how to import a significant number of photos back in after editing. Thanks!

Not sure why you would want to re import images you have sent to be printed. It doesn't really matter what the particular software is being used by the class is to print from (and you can't print from Bridge as far as I am aware...it is just a file browser) as long as the system is colour managed (and of course your own system running LR is also colour managed). All you need to do is use LR's print module, print to jpg files from that using whatever the colour profile used by the final printer and on the correct size and type of paper being used. Pass these off to them and the job is done, no further editing should be required at the printing side of things. I

Thanks for the response. The application was crashing. A Windows message was displayed showing "Lightroom.exe has stopped working", "Windows can check online for a solution the problem.". Etc.
I just launched Lightroom to check the exact message for this reply - and the Import worked. It had failed dozens of times before.

Hi, I am having a little trouble with exporting images to another drive and Catalogue and need some help if anyone can give me some advice
I am currently using Lightroom 5.6 and operating on a Mac with OSX Ver 10.9.5.
I am receiving an error problem when doing the following -
I am exporting selected photos from a particular Catalogue saved on Drive 1 to a folder created on another Drive where a Lightroom Catalogue has been created. In this Catalogue I have arranged for the images once exported to be moved to a different folder - I used the Auto Import process under the File dialogue box.
When processing the Export I receive an error message for each of the images being exported indicating the following -
Heading Import Results
Some import operations were not performed
Could not move a file to requested location. (1)
then a description of the image with file name
Box Save As Box OK
If I click the OK button to each image I can then go to the other Catalogue and all images are then transferred to the file as required.
To click the OK button each time is time consuming, possibly I have missed an action or maybe you can advise an alternative method to save the time in actioning this process.
