Problems using SONY 810UL/T dvd writer with ibook

Hi All,
I'm having trouble using the above drive with my dual USB on 10.3.9 and was wondering if anyone else may have a solution to this. The os doesn't seem to recognize memorex16X DVD+R discs (i'm not sure if this is a disc issue or a drive issue but..see later) i.e. it doesn't show up on the desktop (I've tried this with multiple discs). Then when I try to open the tray using the button on the burner, nothing happens. So I do a disktool -e disk2 to eject the disk. I insert the disk again but holding down optioncmdI while inserting the disc ala article 30878 (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=30878). A window pops up: You inserted a blank DVD. Choose what to do from the pop-up menu. I press ok, the disk ejects and I get message: This disc could not be used because the disc drive is not supported. (Error code 0x80020025). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.
iBook G3 500   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Hi Tah.
Two suggestions:
1) Avoid Memorex discs if possible. I dn't know how they go in the Sony burners, but users of Panasonic (Matshita) and Pioneer drives I know have had problems with them.
2) See if Patchburn helps - see http://www.patchburn.de/download.html
Patchburn gets many third party burners running which are otherwise not supported by Apple. In your case you will need the Panther version , of course.

Problems using Sony ECM DS70P Microphone with Vado HD 3rd genXHello.
I have just purchased a Vado HD 3rd gen & was looking forward to using my Sony ECM DS70p Microphone, but after a couple of tests, the recording is extremely low & barley laudable.
The Microphone works fine on My Kodak Zi8.
Is there an internal setting I have to adjust, or is there a fault with the Vado
The Sony ECM DS70pMicrophone can be clearly seen in use here on a official Creative video.
    http://www.youtube.com/watchv=oixLDAmc5qw
If anybody can offer some help or advice please, I would be very grateful.
Does anyone have a suggestion for a low profile stereo mic, to use with the Vado 3rd Gen
    Thank you.
    Thank you.

This is happening to me too, I don't know if this is an Adobe Flash Player 11.5's bug or it's just my computer. All my browsers, chrome, IE9, Fox, doesn't even load anime videos. I tried reinstalling 11.5 many times, it have no effect but I use IE9 64-bit to run the videos that couldn't run. I waited 25 min for a JW player to load an episode of anime and I'm sick of it.

  • Problems using Anyconnect 3.x client together with Kaspersky AntiVirus

We have Notebooks with Windows Vista - most of the notebooks have "Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 für Windows Workstation" installed and some "Kaspersky Endpoint Security 8 für Windows".
Anyconnect 2.5 works perfect on these notebooks.
But when I upgrade anyconnect to version 3.0 or 3.1, I have the problem that all HTTP traffic is blocked - all other network traffic is still working.
When I quit the Kaspersky client (or uninstall it), everything is working again - except that I have no working antivirus protection.
Of course, I have tried different settings for the Kaspersky client (without success) and asked our Kaspersky support (who said that anyconnect is causing this problem and not Kaspersky).
My first experience with a Windows 7 notebook is that this problem does not exist using Windows 7.
So maybe the problem is caused by a strange combination of Windows Vista, Anyconnect 3.x and Kaspersky.
Does anyone else has problems using Anyconnect 3.x client together with Kaspersky AntiVirus?
    Kind regards,
    Peter

We've recently run into an issue related to this. We found that it was related somehow to Firefox. If one looks inside of
/Applications/Cisco/Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client.app/Contents/MacOS/ there are symlinks to Firefox libraries:
    $ ls -lntotal 1800-rwxrwxr-x  1 0     80  891232 Aug  3  2012 Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Clientlrwxr-xr-x  1 1001  80      60 Jun 13 15:57 libmozsqlite3.dylib -> /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/libmozsqlite3.dyliblrwxr-xr-x  1 1001  80      55 Jun 13 15:57 libnspr4.dylib -> /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/libnspr4.dyliblrwxr-xr-x  1 1001  80      54 Jun 13 15:57 libnss3.dylib -> /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/libnss3.dyliblrwxr-xr-x  1 1001  80      58 Jun 13 15:57 libnssutil3.dylib -> /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/libnssutil3.dyliblrwxr-xr-x  1 1001  80      54 Jun 13 15:57 libplc4.dylib -> /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/libplc4.dyliblrwxr-xr-x  1 1001  80      55 Jun 13 15:57 libplds4.dylib -> /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/libplds4.dyliblrwxr-xr-x  1 1001  80      58 Jun 13 15:57 libsoftokn3.dylib -> /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/libsoftokn3.dylib
So as a simple confirmation we were able to remove Firefox and have AnyConnect connect fine. As a more permanent workaround we replaced the above symlinks with 0 byte files and we were able to have our cake (AnyConnect connecting) and eat it too (Firefox installed as well).

  • Can I use my old Sony Spressa USB CD writer with my MBP?

I have an older Sony Spressa CD writer with a USB cable. My MBP doesn't find it when I plug it in.
I used the unit with a PC, and it had a software program that went with it. Does anyone know if I can use it? Thanks!
    -Charles

All those ports or on a fried logic board, so they would be of no use anyway.
Depending on how adept you are mechanically, you could gut the box and
figure a way of mounting a pair of 2.5" drives.  and then connect the drives
to a pair of USB-to-SATA cables to them.

  • Advice on DVD Writer with PowerBook - Matshita DVD-R UJ-815

    Hi there,
I have been attempting to burn DVDs on my PowerBook using Toast Titanium Version 6 - TO NO AVAIL. During my first few attempts to burn DVDs, the SuperDrive accepted the disc but was unable to complete the Encryption process. Burning data files on a CD-R has not been a problem - now when a blank DVD-R is inserted, it is kicked out almost immediately.
When my computer was purchased I was told that DVDs could be written at 1X. This is proving to be ever frustrating and I am beginning to fear the worst.
    Please help.
    Martin

Martin, Burning what would be called a standard DVD is not a problem, just drag and drop into Toast,
However most users that are not familiar with the process think they can burn Commercial DVD and you can not do it without first Ripping and then it must be compressed to fit a standard 4.7gb DVD.
So you can place DATA, AUDIO, and IMAGE data as is. However if you are trying to copy VIDEO TS from a Commercial DVD Movie,
You need 2 more pieces of software....Mactheripper......and either Toast 7...or Popcorn...these last 2 have compression software included where other methods cause you to need 1 more piece of compression software to use earlier versions of Toast.... Does this help....Don

  • Can i use ANY external CD/DVD drive with the NEW mac mini?

We just got the newest Mac Mini and want to get an external drive for importing and burning CD's and DVD's.
Can we use ANY external CD/DVD drive or do we NEED to use the "Apple MacBook Air SuperDrive."
    Thanks
    Eliot

    Maybe.
I've had some situations where a non-Apple DVD drive would not do a particular job.  When I tried the same project with the Apple SuperDrive everything worked perfectly.
This is an area where I would not try to save money.

  • Using Sony's IDC in combination with Lightroom

I would like to use Sony's IDC Raw converter that comes with the Sony A700 camera, to be able to process through Sony IDC the RAWs with DRO's (Dynamic Range Optimalization) applied (as shot with the A700).
However I would like to keep LightRoom as my archiving base.
    Question:
Can I bring RAWs after importing in LightRoom, to IDC?
Can I after converting the RAWs in IDC, bring the resulting PSDs (or JPEGs) from IDC back to Lightroom (for archiving)?
    I appreciate your help!

    Yes, and No!
Lightroom won't allow you to use IDC on the Raw file, Lightroom only allows ACRaw to be used to "develop" a raw file. However, you can use Lightroom's ranking and review functions to help you decide which files you want to work with. Then right click and select show in explorer. Then select the file you want to develop, and tell Explorer to open in IDC. You then can develop, save as a Tiff and import.
Pain in the Arse isn't it?
Frankly if you have access to Bridge then this is faster and more convenient. Import the ARW and use IDC to make Tiffs.
But why do you want to do this?
Frankly DRO only becomes special when you use DRO Advanced. Anything else can be easily duplicated in Lightroom. DRO Advanced can not be done by IDC,(it's like Lightzone on Steroids) it's done by the camera, the processor looks at each pixel and compares it with adjacent pixels and makes adjustments in the jpg. So the only way to utilise DRO Advanced (and it's astonishing what is achieved) is to shoot in Jpg (and probably in cRaw + Jpeg) I shoot everything in cRaw only but have a MR setting to utilise DRO Advanced - cRaw + Jpeg, ISO 200 (remember that DRO advanced effectively locally amplifies the pixels, so if you start at say ISO 800 certain pixels could be amplified to ISO 6400!
I can then import both the cRaw and the Jpeg.
    Hope this makes sense.

  • Playing dual layer dvd's with iBook superdrive

I've burned a couple of dual layer DVD's (8.5GB) with my iBook G4 and an external Lacie DVD burner.
I used Toast 7, experiencing no problems at all.
The DVD's play perfectly using the Lacie driver itself, or my Sony DVD player, or even a 10-year-old Pioneer DVD drive on my PC.
But... my iBook Superdrive refused to even read them.
The disk just makes a couple of turns and then the superdrive ejects it with no message.
The superdrive plays perfectly the commercial dvd's, which I know are usually double layered.
Does that mean that superdrive is not compatible with burned dual layer dvd's?
    iBook G4; iPod 60GB v1.2.1; iTunes 6; Airport Xpress Mac OS X (10.4.4)
    iBook G4; iPod 60GB v1.2.1; iTunes 6; Airport Xpress   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

I don't believe the SuperDrive for the iBook is set
up to read/write the dual layer DVD's.
I didn't expect it to write DL DVD's, that's why I used an external burner.
The problem is when reading the burned dvds
Go to your Apple Menu and select "about this mac".
Click on the "more info" button and navigate to the
    Disc Burning label. Select it.
If your SD is dual layer compatible you'll see "+R
    DL".
It says generically that SD reads DVDs
What speed were you burning the Dual DVD's on the
    LaCie?
don't know, really, but Toast is set to burn disks at the best speed:
    one was a DL DVD+R 8x, the other a DL DVD-R 4x
it's IMPOSSIBLE that SD can't read dual layer DVDs: commercial DVDs are 6-7GB, they MUST be DL and they play perfectly.
and if it really can't play burned DL DVDs, that's really a shame! >:-Z

  • DVD writer for Ibook

    HI All
My iBook has a Combo writer (CD RW/DVD player) I'm thinking of getting an external DVD writer and am wondering if I can use any External, or does it have to be specifically for a mac?
    Andy

I would guess that "any" is too broad because you are surely going to find incompatible ones.
I would suggest looking at LaCie drives. They have been making Mac compatible drives for years.

  • Using Sony DRX-710UL DVD/CD RW DL Drive with my iMac

Please, god please, if anyone can please help me utililize this new Sony external optical drive I got from my sister I would seriously appreciate it. I have hooked it up via firewire and my iMac can acknowledge discs put in it and their icons appear on my desktop so it seems there is hope. I put in a DVD today that had a couple hundred mp3 files on it and I dragged the dvd icon over the iTunes and dropped them in. The drive then began to hum like normal and the iTunes did all the normal stuff as if I was using my own built-in optical scanner but at the end of the process I got a crappy error message and I checked and not one file had successfully copied over! I am way out of cash so I really need to make this thing work for me. Incidentally, the built in scanner burnt out/died last week which is why I am now trying to make this work.

Okay, I'll try it tomorrow. But in your estimation, will this drive be able to replace my dead internal drive? I know that a more modern external optical drive would work better with my computer but this one was free just sitting, never used, new in the box in my sister's garage and I got no money right now but with tons off stuff to get done that will involve a functioning drive.

  • Using an external DVD burner with iBook G4

    Hi,
I am new to this ibook game so bear with me....I purchased an iBook G4 from ebay and hooked my Lacie external DVD burner up to it as it only has a combo drive. Anytime I try to burn DVDs though it says that it cannot use this disk. When I look in disc utility it says that the write ability of any DVD i insert is read only. Under system profiler my external burner does appear as drive type CD-RW/DVD-RW though. What can I do to burn DVDs? I am running osx 10.3.7 by the way and previously used my external burner with an old emac succesfully.

You could try and see if the external optical drive is supported through
third-party burn software, one example of which may be Burn, it is free.
    http://burn-osx.sourceforge.net/Pages/English/home.html
    {note: there are two links to download - one is for G3s only}
Is the cable you have in good health and do you have a known good spare?
    And update the OS X to 10.3.9. Get the large file 'combo' for this;
and then check for security updates, java updates, etc. Be sure
to run Disk Utility's 'repair disk permissions' before & after updates.
You will have to update the Panther 10.3.x system to 10.3.9 and also
get any other updates available to the system. This may be why the
external drive won't work in the present computer. Also, Burn needs
to have 10.3.9 or later in order to work, too...
    Hopefully this helps...
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • SONY HDR UX3E - dvd camcorder with usb connection

does anyone know how to get video out of those new DVD video cameras ?
First, do those new, mini 8cm dvds go into a PowerBook G4 SuperDrive slot?
This camera has a usb cord, so i'm plugging that into PowerBook G4 usb port. The volume shows up on my desktop, but clicking on it just brings up various files that I can't see thumbnails of or open with imovie, dvd, or quicktime.
my previous camcorder used a firewire connectionl. Does anyone have experience with the new SONY HDR UX3E camera and a mac? it is High defintion.
is there a way to hook camera up with Firewire? my manual doesn't mention it. does anyone have this camera, and use it with a powerBookG4??
    ay help would be appreciated

WARNING!!!! Never pop in any thing other than a standard size CD/DVD in your slot-loading Macs!
You will damage your optical drive severely. You can only put those things in a tray-loading optical drive.
Second, the only connection supported by Macs are FireWire connections for digital video cameras. (Unless something has changed recently, which I don't believe since I am a video editor--not professional--myself in my job).
The best cameras for Macs are the DV cameras. If you want HD, you can record to mini-DV. The hard drive cameras work too, but it takes multiple steps before you can start editing your video.
I'm not sure how to extract the video from your DVDs since they are encoded, but I will look for you. (Unless someone answers before I do).
Check your camera to see if it does have a FireWire connection. Some cameras have both, though Sony tends to use USB 2.0. Theirs would be called "iLink" for the FireWire port.

**your DVDs have your videos encoded in MPEG-2 format so you need an application that will convert that into .DV or .MOV formats so that you can edit in iMovie or Final Cut. (Or QuickTime). There are many third-party apps for Mac OS X that can do that for you.

  • Using an external optical DVD drive with A665-S6050

I recently purchased a refurbished Satellite A665-S6050; everything about it is nice and working fine. The one and only problem I'm having is trying to transfer (burn) images from a memory card reader directly to an external DVD drive, without having to first transfer images to a new folder on the desktop. Sending the image file directly to the internal optical drive from the memory card reader works fine, no problem, but for some reason the transfer to the external always fails. The process stalls and never completes.
I need to use an external DVD optical drive to save the internal from wear and tear, and potential damage due to excessive usage over time; I burn 20 to 30 discs a day. Cheaper to replace an external drive than the one built into the notebook. Several conversations with tech support failed to get the issue resolved. Finally it was suggested that I send it in for repair, where it is right now. Hopefully I'll get it back soon with the issue fixed.
I'm curious, has anyone come across this issue before? What was done to get it working properly? Thanks for your feedback. I'm planning on getting another Toshiba, and want to know just in case this issue pops up again so I can correct what may be a simple resolution as adjusting a setting.

I have not run into this problem yet however I do know if you use your computers RAM to do this and then x-fer yourimages onto your drive, from thecomputer you are utilizing, that it is much faster.

  • Problem using Win 8.1 Mail app with corporate email account

I have a client where most of the PCs are running Windows 8.1 with Office 2013 installed and an on-premise Exchange 2013 server.
Even though they've been using Office 2013, now that they have Win 8.1 the staff now like to use the included Mail app for all their email as they say they get better notifications with it and some other "goodies" that Office 2013 doesn't provide.
It's been working okay for them as I haven't heard of any problems. Until now. Their domain passwords are expiring and when they change the domain password they have no problem with the PC itself and domain access and Outlook 2013 still works fine.
But now they're getting errors trying to continue to connect the Mail app to Exchange 2013. They keep getting a popup asking for credentials, their domain accounts get locked out (imagine that) after too many wrong logins I presume by the Windows 8.1 apps,
and when they do get the Mail app connected they see an error in the lower right corner of the window about a problem with the certificate. It says something about the name of I think the server not matching the certificate.
The cert is from GoDaddy and I know the names involved with the cert are correct. But that's the minor issue.
The main issue is with getting the 8.1 apps, particularly the Mail app, to recognize the updated domain password.
I have a Windows 8.1 VM setup and on the domain but when I try to configure it to connect to the Exchange server I get the error "Unable to connect. Ensure the information you've entered is correct."
It's pretty obvious what is supposed to go in each field so I'm sure I'm filling it out correctly. But because of this I can't use this test VM to work on the problem.
If anyone has an idea of how to deal with the Windows 8.1 Mail app and Exchange and changing the user domain password, I'd be appreciative of the help.
    Jonathan

    Hi,
    Thanks for your feedback.
With 8.1, you can now use the Mail app without having to have a Microsoft account.
A Microsoft account is an email address and password that you use to sign in to Windows. It's free and easy to set up, and you can do so with any email address you choose, or get a new email address. (For example, you can use an Outlook.com, Gmail, or Yahoo!
    address for your Microsoft account.)
However, you must sign with an email address.
Any way, if you have any other problem, welcome to contact us.
    Karen Hu
    TechNet Community Support
That is one way you can sign into Windows but not required. As I stated earlier, these PCs are domain joined and that's how they login to them. As for the Mail app, 8.1 means an MS account isn't required anymore.
