Problems viewing in IE6

My coworker has built a site that I am putting a form into.
He is using a table. I have been able to get everything to preview
great in Firefox and Safari, but IE 6 is pushing the graphics
around. What should I do? Should I start over and build the entire
site with divs? If so, do you know of a site that tells you how to
go about that?

Not quite. Increase the text size in FF just one click and
the layout
explodes. Your coworker built a rigid, inflexible layout that
is destined to
fail. Using a table is not the problem. Failing to understand
XHTML is the
problem.
I would start over but would learn XHTML & CSS first. Or
drop the large
background graphic, use just a simple header graphic and put
the whole thing
in a table. That should suffice.

  • Layout problem only in IE6

    I just did a site and am working out some of the content and
    things with the company but the big problem I have is with IE6
    (unfortunately there are a few people there still using this!) and
    of course the first time they see it on the web, it isnt right.
    Looks fine on my laptop and in all the standards based browsers
    (FF, Safari, Chrome, etc).It validates thru dw and w3c. The home
    page image drops off below the sidebar div, even though it has the
    br class clearfloat before the footer. The service page is a copy
    of it and has an image similar to this one and DOESNT exhibit the
    problem in IE6. Also the menu in the sidebar has a box that is like
    extra padding/margin on the right when viewed in IE6. Any
    suggestions on a IE conditional comment to fix this? So far the
    home page is the only one I have found a problem with like this.
    Thanks for any help..
    the url is www.cgm-us.com

    Change the padding for this rule:
    .twoColFixLtHdr #mainContent {
    margin: 0 0 0 250px;
    padding: 0 0 0 20px;
    Notice how it only needs padding on the left side.
    The following rule is messing up your menu in IE6:
    * html .markermenu li a{ /*IE only. Actual menu width minus
    left padding of LINK (20px) */
    width: 150px;
    It may be for use with the quirks mode broken box model which
    you don't need to worry about as you are in standards mode. Just
    remove it.
    You can also fix the order of your link states as a:active
    should be defined after a:hover...
    .markermenu li a:visited{
    color: #00014e;
    .markermenu li a:hover{
    color: black;
    background-color: #cccccc;
    background-image:url(images/arrow-list-red.gif);
    /*onMouseover image change. Remove if none*/
    .markermenu li a:active{
    color: #00014e;

  • Photo gallery works when when hosted on web, but not local viewing in IE6

    Hello all,
    I'm using iWeb to write a report. The deliverable will be viewed on IE6. (Disgusting!) I tried pointing it to http://local.ip.addr/website/ and it worked great (after enabling the active x plugins). Later to test the deliverable I put the files on a flash drive and it doesn't load the pictures when I view it this way!
    Does anyone know why this might be happening?
    Thanks in advance!
    Brandon

    Maybe you can substitute a different photo gallery in your site for the one that iWeb creates. There are a number of java based ones that might work better in IE6.
    You could give these a try and see if they are any more compatible:
    SimpleViewer and Flash Album Exporter
    Flash Album Exporter Postcard and AutoViewer Slideshow Themes
    Jalbum Examples - there are over 100 skins/themes available: Jalbum Skins.
    Also you might find some of tips in Roddy's How to get your iWeb Site to load in Internet Explorer page to be of some help.

  • Problem viewing some webpages

    Hey
    Looking for some help with my macbook. I have been having problems viewing videos on youtube and i'm unsure of the problem. When i try to view a video it comes up with this message.
    "Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Adobe's Flash Player. Get the latest Flash player."
    Also youtube doesn't look right. It looks like it is all in some kind of basic format with no graphics, ads, pictures etc. (Im not particularly computer savvy)
    I've checked my all the settings are correct in preferences, i've updated flash player and made sure all other software is up to date and still no joy!
    I had no important data on my macbook so i wiped it and reinstalled the OS and updated everything again, it still hasn't sorted the problem.
    Im unsure what to do next, any ideas would be much appreciated.
    PS i recently had someone's external hard drive plugged in to it, could i have got some virus from this??

    Thanks for the swift reply greg.
    I assumed it probably was not a virus but i thought i'd check anyway. Thats pretty much the reason i bought a mac.
    I checked the preferences and JavaScript was already enabled and all other boxes checked also. It only seems to be youtube thats the problem so far although i have not been on many other websites since.
    My internet connection is not particularly fast, i am using my college wifi network and it can often be very slow. I usually need to let videos load for a couple of minutes before i can watch.
    I have had the Macbook for about a week and have been using it regularly. The problem only started yesterday. I also carried out all my apple updates yesterday, i'm not sure if this is what has led to the problem??

    Problem viewing forms.This form is not supported with the current version of Adobe Reader.
    Upgrade to the latest version for full support.
    What exactly do I need to do?

    That means you were probably using Adobe Acrobat to view PDF's. Acrobat is totally unnessary, you can view PDF's in Preview (Applications - Preview).
    BTW PLEASE complete your profile. It's very difficult to help  someone when they don't provide any information about their system. You can easily do this by clicking Your Stuff in the upper right of this page, then click Profile and fill in the pertinent information.

  • Problems viewing songs in Zen Mi

    Hi all!
    I just bought a Zen Micro but have problems viewing the list of songs that I have transferred from MediaSource to the Micro. After I have done a sync, the list of songs do not appear on my Micro at all. I only get an empty screen with the words 'selected music' on the screen but I can't select anything because the songs are not there!
    Do the songs take a while before they appear on the screen even if the transfer from PC to Micro is successful? Must I switch off and switch on my Micro before things work? Am I the only person who faces this problem? Could I have done something wrongly?
    Please help. Thank you!
    ijev

    mmm, have you been reading any manual or so?
    Sounds a bit like you are looking at the "Now Playing" screen, without music selected. In that case indeed, the screen says : "go pick some music".
    What you do in that case is use the 'back' button, to get to the main menu, and then navigate to your "Music Library", and then on from there.
    So either you still have to learn to use the user interface, or I misinterpretated, and there is something oddly wrong with your player

  • Problems viewing forms in reader - easy fix using adobe send?

    My colleagues and I were having problems viewing and printing data in forms.  Went to the help forums and apparently it is caused by someone filling in a .pdf form on a mac - it corrupts the file.  I saw a lot of fixes suggested including a javascript for acrobat, but I only use reader, not the full acrobat, so none of them seemed to work for me.
    However, I think the easiest way to fix one of these forms is to use adobe send.  If I take the corrupted form and send it to an email address using adobe send instead of sending it as an email attachment, it seems to fix the form and make the data visible again.     Have done it with a couple of forms now and it seems to work.
    Now my question is, does anyone know why this works?

    I don't think so. The problem there seems to be not being able to save the filled out form in Reader and needed to Extend features in Adobe Reader so that Reader users can save the form. This isn't quite the same.
    My client can edit the form and save it. The problem seems to be needing to edit the saved and filled out form AGAIN.

  • Problem viewing Japanese characters in Excel sent via Email attachment

    Hi All
    I am using FM '''SO_DOCUMENT_SEND_API1'' to send out an e-mail attachment (Excel file). I am able to receive the Excel file successfully. However I am not able to display the Japanese characters properly in my Excel file.
    I tried to display some Japanese characters in my e-mail contents and I have no problem viewing these characters in my e-mail (I am using MS Outlook 2003). These statements becomes something illegible when I transfer it over to Excel as an attachment. In my Internal Table, these characters are displayed correctly as well.
    Anyone has any advice to solve this issue?
    Thanks for your replies.

    Hi Divya,
    refer to the link below:
    http://www.sapdevelopment.co.uk/reporting/email/attach_xls.htm
    The code in this demonstrates how to send an email to an external email addresswhere the data is stored within a .xls attachment.
    Hope this helps.

  • Problem viewing Apple website

    Just wondering if anyone else is having a problem viewing
    http://www.apple.com ?
    I suspect I know what is going on, but would like some
    verification that the page is trying to load a quicktime
    clip in H.264.
    Regards,
    genec

    I am using Windows XP Home SP2 and QuickTime 7.1.
    When I try to go to http://www.apple.com
    Internet Explorer 6 SP 1 crashes. So does Firefox.
    The problem is, I suspect, that my computer does not meet
    the minimum requirements for H.264.
    I do note that the requirements for Quicktime 7 are:
    Windows XP (got that)
    a pentium computer (AMD K6-2 500)
    and 128MB ram (have 384MB)
    I have downloaded the stand alone install for Quicktime 7.1
    I have the latest version of direct X and have checked for
    video driver updates (none available.
    So basically, I have done everything on the Quicktime
    support site and it will not work.
    I tried to view the WWDC, and got a Microsoft Visual C++
    Runtime Library error....Bufer Overrun Detected.
    I am working that issue with Microsoft.
    Any further light you can shed on this would be most appreciated.

  • Template view in IE6

    When I save a template in progress to view in FF or Safari,
    it works just fine. When I preview in IE6, all I'm getting is the
    code. I guess I could create a new page from template to view in

    Thanks,

    You are previewing the page with F12, or with the Preview

    What is the Template page's filename? Do you have Preview

  • Problems viewing CNN videos

    Is it only me? With both Firefox and Safari, whenever I view a video on the CNN.com website, it is terrible. It just shutters and the audio is shaky. Even if I wait for the whole video to download before pressing play, I get the same problem. This has been happening for a long time, with many different versions of Firefox, starting in 2.x and still in 3.x. I never have any problems viewing YouTube video or any QuickTime videos, it is ONLY on the CNN.com website. I have contacted them several times (contact us) and complained, but I have never received a reply.
    I just want to make sure it isn't my machine. I have a pretty good system with plenty of RAM, etc.
    Thanks.

    Hello,
    I've never had an problems viewing CNN video/audio on Safari 3.1.2 (Tiger 10.4.11).
    In Safari, from the Menu Bar, select Help/Installed Plug-Ins and make sure you have the following plugin: Shockwave Flash 9.0 r151 — from file “Flash Player.plugin”. You can do a quick search of plugins by pressing Command + F in that plug in window and type in Flash in the search field. If it's there, it will be highlighed.
    If not, go here and download the Safari Flash plugin: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/alternates/
    If you already have the Flash plugin, perhaps you need to do some maintenance on your Mac? If you don't have a disk utility to clean out caches, run routine maintenance and cleaning scripts... get Onyx here: http://www.titanium.free.fr/pgs/english.html It's free, easy to download and install and use.
    Also, check your available drive space as BDAqua suggested. Right or control click your MacintoshHD icon, then click: Get Info In the Get Info click the black arrow next to General so it faces down. You will see: Capacity and Available. Make sure your Mac has a minimum of 10% free disk space, 15% is better. Not enough disk space and video/audio, applications.. will crash/free... in general, erratic behavior.

  • Problems viewing form

    Hi,
    I created a form using LiveCycle and sometimes I have problems viewing the data. The text fields are blank and if I click my mouse in the field the text shows up then if I click out of the field it goes away. If I click into the field and type a space then the text remains visible. Sometimes the radio buttons do not display as I created them. It displays a circle inside the box instead of just the box.
    These problems only happen on some of the returned forms. Also, some people say they cannot save the data even though they are saving the form to thier hard drive first. At least that is what I tell them to do.
    Thanks for any help on this!

    OK,
    Last shot at this:
    AcroForm with document level javascript to populate a field with viewer type, version and variation. For example, this populates as "This AcroForm is open in Exchange-Pro, version 9.302. The variation is Full" in Acrobat Pro 9.
    Update button that increases a counter by 1 and repopulates the viewer type, version and variation field.
    This works in Acrobat and Reader. For example Reader comes up with "This AcroForm is open in Reader, version 9.301. The variation is Reader", which is correct.
    However in Preview it is evident that document level script do not work, as the viewer type, version and variation do not update.
    Also Javascript in a mouseUp event does not work, as the update button does not advance the counter nor update the viewer type, version or variation.
    Lastly simple calculation script (javascript) does not work, see the quantity/price calculation.
    This form is 100% AcroForm and even simple functionality does not work in Preview. I wouldn't trust Preview as far as I could throw it!!

  • Problem viewing photos in PE Organiser

    Desperately need help with a problem viewing my pics in PE 9 Organiser. Many (most) of my photos will not display properly - instead, in their frames are yellow (?)'s in the upper left hand corner and  blue (?)'s in the center. That is the situation whether I am in the "thumbnail" display or the "import batch" mode of "Display".
    Strangely, I have used a number of these photos in an album recently and they displayed perfectly then.
    Anyone have a clue???
    Thanks tons.

    It seems you are absolutely right on about the missing files. My only problem now is to figure how to restore about sixty

    I have another problem whch you may be able to help me with if you don't mind. I've discovered that my DVD Player only recognizes .jpg or .mpg format and my Photo Elements wants to create the slideshows in .wmv.  Any suggestion sfor changing that.
