Problems viewing PDFs filled out on a Mac on a PC

After searching the forums, I didn't see this exact issue, so my apologies if it is posted somewhere.
I'm using Abode Pro 9 and created new applications for our students to use with LiveCycle Designer ES 8.2 (using a PC with XP). We then Reader enabled the documents so they could be used by those who only had Adobe Reader.
Now the majority of users have had no problems with the forms. However, we're running into difficulties with Mac users.
When they fill out the forms, everything displays correctly on their end (I verified this by using a breeze room to see how the documents appear on their computer). However, when the forms are emailed to us, there is missing text or the text only appears when we click inside the box, once we're outside the box, it disappears again. It's also allowing them to enter in more text than we set in the text box area (we had it limit to visible area only). The few that we've talked to are running Abode Reader 9. Any thoughts on what's causing it? I've even sent them 'fresh' copies of the pdfs and asked them to refill them and the same problem happens. The issue is only with text boxes. Drop downs and check boxes appear correctly. I've tried everything I can think of and haven't found any good solutions or explanations yet.

To open any PDF (including those  marked as readable by Preview it has a different icon).
locate several (no less than 5 files) PDF with a mix or Adobe and Preview Icons. next hold down control key then go file menu>get sumary info.
Now go to open with and click you see something like the screenshots I have shown or linked in this reply.

  • Problem viewing data in forms completed on Macs

I have forms loaded on our website for clients to download, complete and email back to me.  They work fine until filled out on a Mac.  For some reason, the fields are all blank but when you click in them, the data the client has input is visible.  Clients tell us they can input and save the form which looks fine on their Mac but when they send it the fields appear to be empty (I am opening the forms on a pc)  This doesn't happen with pc's.  The forms were created in Acrobat Pro.  Can anyone please suggest what I might be missing here?

Here is your solution.  Copy the Javascript code below from // to //   Then open Windows Notepad program and past the script in there.  After you paste it go to "save as"  then look for the Javascript folder for Adobe Pro X ( or XI)
It will probably located in some place like  C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 10.0\Acrobat\Javascripts.
And then name the file whatever  (for example FormFill.JS)  - the .js is important.    Your done.  Then open Adobe Pro and click on the FILE button inr the up right corrner.  On the gray drop down menu and new words FIX FILE APPEARANCE should be on the bottom of that drop down.   If you get a Mac submission, click these words (button) and it will fill in the info.  (I don't lay claim to the solution or coding)  But it work in Adobe Pro X  & XI and have done it for the whole staff in my department

  • Acrobat Pro 9 Mac**Making a pdf fill-out form non-editable when it is completed.

    HELP!!
If anyone out there can help me I would greatly appreciate it.
I see the forums are with LifeCycle but I need direction for the mac version of acrobat pro.
I am creating a fill-out pdf form for distribution. I would like the person who receives the fill out form to complete the form,
and click a "lock all fields" button or "form completed" button that will make all form fields lock/ non editable when emailed back to me.
Where would I put this script? Can someone give me step by step direction for this button?
I am a novice to this. I don't know how to run a javascript for the button or what is needed to get this completed.
    Can someone please help me.
    Thank you so much-
    Katy

Maybe this will do the trick...

  • Viewing PDFs in browser on a Mac with Firefox 16

I have Firefox 16.0.2 because it's the latest version compatible with with Mac OS 10.5. I'm not willing to upgrade my Mac right now because it works perfectly fine (aside from not being compatible with stuff), and I don't feel like paying or going through the hassle. I'm so far behind right now that I would have to update my operating system at least three times to get up to date. I used to have some sort of plug-in or extension that allowed me to view PDFs in my browser. It was buggy, but it was working up through yesterday. Then I was having some issues, no idea what they were, and ended up having to reset Firefox. I lost all my add-ons. I have been unsuccessful in finding whatever it was I had before. Is there ANY possible way I can view PDFs in my browser? This is driving me absolutely nuts.

Not really interested in switching my operating system at the moment. The only real problem with it is back compatibility of certain things (like updated versions of Firefox, for example), but for my everyday use it doesn't cause a problem. The only real thing that's annoying me at the moment is the fact that the PDFs open in Adobe instead of in Firefox, but that's not really worth the hassle of installing a new operating system for.

  • Problem viewing pdf in print mode

I am able to download and view pdf files, but when I go to print them I sometimes get a file that looks like the correct pdf file but there is no text in the file. It has the formatting correct, but the text is absent.
I am using Mac OS 10.6.8, Firefox 15.0, and Adobe reader 10.4.1
This problem also occurs with Safari.
    Thanks,
    Mark

    Michael,
Thanks for the response but downloading and then opening with Reader produces the same result, a formatted form without text.

    Hello everybody,
I'm trying to print a PDF-X3 out of Scribus. The X3-compatiliby-check seems to have no problems,

I have no idea was the problem is! May anyone help?
    Greetz Sanne
It seems to be the same problem if I don't use PDF-X3. What does that mean "OffendingCommand: Ã"? I can't find the errortype anywhere!

  • Problems viewing PDF's in Safari

Every time I try and open a PDF from Safari 7.0.4 I get this message " before viewing PDF documents in this browser you must launch Adobe Reader and accept the End User Licence Agreement, then quit and relaunch the browser."    I am using Adobe Acrobat Pro 11.0.7 and despite changing so that Adobe Reader is the default program for opening PDF's I still get the same message.    I have looked at some of the comments on line and none work for me.  Any ideas?
    Thanks

    Elliot,
Your post actually linked to an article which explained the terminal command. I posted moments after you posted, and your post was not displayed, nor did it have any influence on my post. I am a slow typist.
It appears to me as if one is an "off" command and one is an "on" command

  • Problems viewing PDFs in Sky Drive on Safari

I have just tried to use Sky Drive on my new iMac.  I first installed the Sky Drive app which worked once and has not worked again, all it keep's doing it trying to sync 8 folders.  So I un-installed the Sky Drive app and went to use Sky Drive via the web.  I am using Safari and running Mac OS 10.8.3.  When I sign in to Sky Drive, I can view my photos fine but none of my documents/PDFs will open up.  Example, when I go to click on a PDF all I get is a grey screen when it use to display the PDF document.
I went in to the settings of Safari and changed my 'Cookie' setting to allow all cookies and this in-turn looked to fix the problem, but as soon as I went back to the original setting, the problem returned.
This problem has only started within the last few days, before this, it worked fine both on the web and via the app.

From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
    and confirm. Test.

  • Customer's are having problems viewing PDF's.

I recently upgraded to Illustrator CS5 from CS4. Since the upgrade, I've been getting complaints from some customers that they cannot open the PDF's I'm sending them. This was never a problem with CS4. I went back and checked the save setting in illustrator and can't find anything different from what I had set in CS4. Is this an issue with Illustrator, or do you think that it may be that it's exporting a PDF that's requiring a newver version of Adobe Acrobat for customers to view? Working on a Mac btw, if that matters. Any ideas? Thanks!

    Same customers?
    Same Reader version?
    Same documents?
    Same settings?
If all the above is true, not enough specific information. Regardless, always politely advise your PDF recipients to download the current version of the free Adobe Reader. And test in Reader yourself before sending the file.

  • Problem view PDF Form in Chrome

    Hi all,
I have a short-lived process to return the PDF to the client.
With IE and Firefox, it works fine, i.e I can view the PDF in the browser.

  • Acrobat X pro - Problem viewing PDF files in web browser

I've recently upgraded to the latest Imac and have experianced one or two teething problems with software compatibility with OS X 10.7.1 Lion (most now resolved)
My latest issue is viewing online PDF's which appear in my browser as just a blank black page. This happens in both Safari and Firefox (both latest versions)
My question is: Does anyone have any ideas on how to solve this?

I was able install and view the files in adobe reader 10.1.1 and in web browser window 7 64 bit machine.  But when I go to Edit-preferences-internet and  unchecking "display PDF in Browser" , I am not able to view the pdf files in ie 9 browser.  I have used this javscript to check for pdf version.
    Immediately after installing adobe--
when I do adobe test in ie 9---https://courses.worldcampus.psu.edu/public/diagnostics/Acrobat.html--  launches a test pdf file--Acro_Test.pdf
After unchecking-- it stays in the  https://courses.worldcampus.psu.edu/public/diagnostics/Acrobat.html instead of showing test pdf file--Acro_Test.pdf
Tried to go back to "display PDF in Browser"--it is showing it is checked(eventhough I did not check it)
    and in ie
it stays in the https://courses.worldcampus.psu.edu/public/diagnostics/Acrobat.html instead of showing test pdf file--Acro_Test.pdf

  • Problems viewing PDF documents created on a scanner using PDF version 1.6 (Acrobat 7.x)

We multiple Xerox scanners and not all of them operate on the same version of software/firmware.  1 of our scanners uses PDF Version 1.4 (Acrobat 5.x) when scanning a doucment to our network and 1 of our scanners uses PDF Version 1.6 (Acrobat 7.x).  When using Adobe Reader 9.x both documents open properly and are 100% visible.  After upgrading to Adobe Reader X, the scans created using the newer version of PDF (1.6) have some missing text/images on the pages and have a grey "overlay" on the page.  Again, Reader 9 will view both files properly, but Reader X will not.  Any help is appreciated.  I have fiddled around with several of the view settings to no avail.  Thanks.

That is hardly a solution, the whole purpose of upgrading to Adobe Reader X is to avoid potential threats.  There is obviously a problem with Adobe Reader X and veiwing certain documents that needs to be addressed and the way to address it should not reside with "Use Adobe 9 and Adobe 10 and pick whatever version works for your document"
