Problems w/ a 160 GB

i've had my 160 for a little over a year now and i just started having problems w/ it. it will randomly skip to the next song after only playing 10 sec of a song. when i connect it to my itunes it won't synch. it will start but after a minute or so everything freezes up. the windows task manager will then say that itunes is not responding. will resetting my ipod fix these problems? any advice or help would be appreciated. thanks.

You should try resetting the iPod with the two button combo
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1320
first. But you may need to use the Restore button in iTunes to erase the iPod and initialize the iPod's software.

I getting no sound out of the USB connection in my cars from my new iPod classic. The song name artist display on the console in the car but no audio. This is happening on 2 cars - Nissan Rogue and Acura TL. My older iPod classic played fine in these cars. Has anyone encountered this issue?

I have a similar problem with a 160 gb Classic, about 5 years old - if I move the plug one channel may be heard and tehn the other. The interface works but not the sound. Different ipods eg nano work perfectly.
The two cars I have are an Audi and a BMW and both have manufacturer connectors

  • Ipod 1.1.1 firmware - 1.1.2 problems? is 1.1.3 out?

    Hiya
    and good morning everyone:
My question (and I did a quick search for previous posts):
I am currently on firmware 1.1.1 for ipod "classic" 160 gb with current iTunes Version 8.0.1.
On two previous occasions, I updated to 1.1.2 which caused endless issues with the ipod; done the hard factory reset etc.
Does anyone know, is there a firmware 1.1.3 out (or higher?) and if so, has
    a) anyone had problems?
    b) and do I need to update to 1.1.2 first?
    T.v.m.

Is there possibly a way to go backwards? I have been having a lot of problems with my 160 GB classic, and someone suggested that I deny the update to 1.1.2 while restoring my ipod through itunes, but it doesn't offer me the chance. It always just seems to update to 1.1.2. Is there a way to download 1.1.1 as a standalone? Or maybe someone can explain why restore isn't giving me the option of denying 1.1.2. Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • 694T Pro: Hard Drive problem

    Hey ho,
I'm swapping bits around in a couple of PCs atm. Pulled my 80 gig drives out of my aged P2-450 and stuck one into a P3-1000 running the 694T Pro motherboard. Currently that machine already has a 30g system drive and a 160g save drive (running at full capacity). I want to take the data off the 80g and stick it on the other drives as it's got all of my email etc. etc. I remember have problems getting the 160 to be recognised in the P3 and had to use a Seagate util to get it up to full capacity. The same goes for the 80g which was in the P2.
So, all of the drives come up fine in the Bios of the P3, no locking up. W2k boots perfectly. However, although the 80g drive is seen by W2k it says it needs formatting, which it does not. It's an NTFS drive, and it's set up as the secondary slave.
    Pri master - 30g seagate
    Pri slave - dvd drive
    Sec master - 160g seagate
    Sec slave - 80g seagate
Any ideas greatfully received. I know I've done this before.. like... twice, and can't for the hell of me remember how.
I cannot format the 80g and loose the data...
    Cheers,
    Mark.

Try jumpering them (Secondary IDE drives) to CS(Cable Select) mode.

  • How do I reverse sync from 4s to MacBook Pro?

So I got nearly 200 songs, not much.
So I wanna sync them from my phone, which is a 4S, to my brand new MacBook Pro (I got it last night xD).
Problem is, about 160 of them are not iTunes purchased, they were downloaded from YouTube to my desktop, and well yea. I tried Sepuni or something like that, but it wouldn't transfer everything in playlist forms. I am very OCDish on my music. I keep it very organized, and I wanna keep it that way, and it took me about and hour and half to rename all the files and move them into folders in my Music folders, and double the time for iTunes. *sigh*
So basically, how do I get all my music onto my Mac the way it's organized on my phone without paying for anything?

Easy. You copy the whole iTunes folder from the computer with which you previously synced to the new computer, replacing the empty iTunes folder there, then start iTunes.  Otherwise you may well be out of luck, and that goes double if you expect these utilities to be free on the Mac platform.  Oh, you can export the playlists from the iOS device, but that's just the text listing, not a complete package of playlist and media.

Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.

  • HELP! Someone please read this and send any knowledge or opinions my way

Im having a major problem syncing my 160 Gb Classic to my Mac OS X.... I synced my ipod to my computer and it wiped it clean...nothing left..... then i went to try and resync all 23,000 songs and my itunes would freeze when the ipod eventually turned up in itunes (often it would show up on the desk top but not in itunes)
I called apple support and spoke with an agent named Michael and told him of my 160 classic ipod woes we went over many things together on the phone numerous times such as reseting ipod restarting my computer and trying many other things including updating itunes eventually I got it to sync but it did not sync all my music I was missing around 500 songs. Then When I played my Ipod the songs began pausing before playing skipping to the next song then skipping randomly. at one point I turned it off and it turned back on with a mind of its own & began to play a song... I tried to resync it and GOT THIS MESSAGE
*"iTunes has detected an iPod that appears to be corrupted. You may need to restore this ipod before it can be used with iTunes. You may also try disconnecting and reconnecting the iPOD"*
I disconnected and tried to reconnect the ipod nothing Then restored it back to its factory settings... *And got this message*
*"The iPod "iPod" could not be restored. An unkown error occurred (1430)"*
I tried somemore and got this message
*"The iPod "iPod" could not be restored. An unkown error occurred (1416)"*
Then Michael from tech support said it must be a problem with my 3 month old Ipods harddrive... he sent me a box to send it away in for repair.
Then a few days later a friend who syncs his Ipod up to my computer came by and synced his I mentioned the problem and that Michael told me its with my ipod... The the same thing happened to my friends iPod.... He synced it to another friends computer and it seemed fine then he called me and said his music is skipping and pausing.. even though his was wiped by my computer and re synced on another
*Could this be a problem with my Mac computer? my Itunes? or is it just coincidence that two Ipods got messed up from trying to sync to my Mac? I don't know If I should send mine in for repair cause I have a feeling its a problem with something else...*

I am having the exact same problem. I just got a brand new HP Pavilion laptop recently and at first my 160gb classic worked fine with it, then at one point when I connected it to my laptop iTunes just froze. I couldn't see any of my files in my iPod but it showed that the space was being used. Then before I knew it I lost all my 32gb of music. I managed to get it to sync to computer and put some music back on but now I am back to the issue where iTunes just freezes and my music got wiped again. I cannot figure it out.

  • New Mac Mini Server (Mid 2011) + 12TB Storage = ?

So the goal is kind of simple...I just bought a Mac Mini Server (+ 4GB Ram upgrade to total 8GB) with Lion of course to faciliate a fairly basic concept. The Mac Mini Server will be running all the time and will be the central storage point for all data/apps/etc including serving my Apple TV (2nd Gen) via iTunes. I have 4 x 3TB drives and/or 2 x 2TB drives that I'd like to RAID 0 (or JBOD/Concatenate if necessary) to show up as 1 uber drive for storage in which the mini can access whenever. The thing is that obviously there is only so much disk space available in the mini itself, and outside of that you're looking at either USB 2.0, Firewire, or Thunderbolt as a connection interface to external media. USB 2 is fairly slow, firewire kind of ***** and has limited devices available, and Thunderbolt is retardly expensive (coming from the guy that just spent nearly $1000 on hard drives) not to mention nothing exists for that yet. There's always the option for gigabit ethernet which would work well if we were working with an NAS.
Here's the thing. Being that this is going to be one big uber drive, the first question is how to interface with it. I'm not opposed to Direct Attached Storage except the available connectors are fairly slow or not out there yet. I'm not opposed to NAS either as long as I have the *option* to hook it up locally (perhaps via USB, is that possible?). The bigger issue here is that RAID 0, JBOD, or concatenated is all quite volitile which is just a downside of my needing to have no more than 1 uber drive. So my thought was to back it up with an online service, likely with one that offers unlimited backup like Carbonite and Live Drive. The issue with Carbonite is that it doesn't support anything that isn't a local internal drive (no NAS or DAS). Live Drive's software isn't yet working properly with OS X but does support NAS on paper.
Does anyone have any thoughts any way around any of this? I'm not too sure how to word it more clearly. My latest thought prior to LiveDrive screwing me over software-wise was to grab an 8bay NAS and activate the NAS aspect of LiveDrive which would pretty much solve my problem after paying $160/yr. Again though, this no longer works as they've pretty much shat on the OS X client. I also tried running a virtual machine with Win 7 via Parallels 6 but it wasn't able to view the NAS at all. I don't exactly want to buy an identical box with identical drives either because that's well over another $1000 so something a bit more creative or practical would be nice.
Again in the end, I just need Mac Mini Server OS X Lion to have one (wishful) "internal" 12TB drive (realistically NAS or DAS) that I can have a back up of the whole 12TB over some reasonable speed interface (assuming gigabit ethernet is the way to go).

sounds like you need a DROBO.  If all you're doing is serving up audio and video, a USB 2.0 connection is fine.  It sounds like you're looking for two different things...local storage and an online backup service.  Or, are you talking about uploading all your content somewhere and streaming it down to your mini?  If it's #2, then that's going to be way slower than connecting a USB device.
For online backups, I use Crashplan, which is better than Mozy and Carbonite (both of which I've used for at least a year), IMO.

  • Ipod classic causes lock on PC after about 30 gigs of media

    Greetings!
I've owned my ipod classic for about a year and a half and my problem is this:
I'm able to sync music and listen as well, but after about 30 or so gigs of space gets occupied, about 5,000 songs, itunes freezes and then I have to pull the ipod out and of course none of the music that I had on there is on it anymore, and I have to restore it, but I still can't get more then 30 gigs of media on there. I've restored it several times to no avail.
Any help or advice on this would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!

I have been having the same problem with my 160 gig iPod Classic. I have restored several times and the last 3 times the problem occurs around 32 gig of files. I don't know what to do. I know that it is not a specific mp3 that is causing the issue because I have the problem while loading different music. From what I have read elsewhere it sounds like it might be an error on the iPod's hard drive.

  • Bus powered external drive for MacBook

    Hi,
I'm looking for an external HD to use with my MacBook, and I'm a bit confused about power. I'd rather avoid lugging around an extra power supply and international adaptor when I'm traveling if it can be avoided.
Does the MacBook's firewire port provide bus power? Is it sufficient to power a 2.5" external HD?
Is USB a better option if I want a bus powered HD? Are there any clear advantages to one or the other?

For the longest time, FireWire was the only practical solution to bus-powered hard drives. FireWire provides a heck of a lot of power (typically 7 to 8W) while USB by definition provides up to 2.5W per port (if powered). FireWire has so many advantages, but cost seems to be the consideration that's won out.
Current USB bus-powered external drives seem to be feasible because of newer 2.5" drives with reduced power consumption. Still - many drives come with (or they can be bought) cables with two male ends. One end is used for data/power, while the other draws more power from a 2nd powered USB port.
I have no problem getting a 160 GB WD Passport (Black) USB 2.0 drive to work on my iBook 1.42 or my new MacBook. It does take a while to mount in the OS though, although the same goes for Windows.

  • 2 different Y scale.

Hi everyone, I have a strange problem, so I am able to use 2 scale in different (I have found the answer here in forum), but if I change the range of plot 0, the value of plot 1 is changed as well. And it's happened vice-versa. I don’t know why.
I have another problem. When I change the range, the gird is changed as well. How can I fix it?
    Have you got any ideas?

I'm not sure what the code is doing. What exactly are the knobs setting? Clearly it's not the amplitude of the signals or the scales.

  • Ipod product replacement

I recently had a problem with my 160 GB iPod Classic. It froze up, then it told me I had to restore it by connecting to iTunes. When I would connect to iTunes it gave me the red X sign. Long story short, I had to send it in for diagnostics. Turns out Apple is replacing my iPod. Im curious if anyone knows, are they going to replace it with a brand new iPod or a refurb?

I think as this model is so new the replacement will be a new one. But as no-one here works for Apple, we can only guess.
However, whether they replace the iPod with a new one or a refurb is solely at Apple's discretion.

  • Sound Stops periodically

Hi, I Post this message because I've been experimenting a problem with my 160 Gb Ipod Classic. It suddenly stops sound for 1 second more or less, then it continues playing music perfectly. It does that when it wants, without a set frequency.
I have restaured it already twice. What could be?

Hard Reset the  iPod  as below- this does not delete or erase any song or data.
After charging till full charge, at least 2 hours (preferably 4 hours)
Toggle the Hold switch, make sure you dont see the red mark when you do the  next step
Reset the iPod -> Press Menu and Center button simultaneously for about 10 secs till the Apple Logo comes ON
    Then release the buttons
    Select your preferred language.

  • IPod 120GB keeps restarting

Hi. I'm having problem with my 120GB iPod. It keep on restarting without getting through to the main menu. Even if I switch to disk mode and restore it on iTunes, the problem still remains. One thing I notice after restoring, my iPod will be completely blank (without any folders, including the hidden ipod_control folder). I need to manually create the folder in order to connect it with iTunes (in disk mode). I also can sync my music in disk mode but once I restart it to main mode, it just keeps restarting again. Any suggestions, please? Thanks in advance.

I have had this problem with my 160 gig classic. It will reset itself over and over and nothing else can be done while it is doing this. I just let it go until the battery runs out, then charge it by using the AC cable, not connecting to the computer. Once the battery is completely dead and it is recharged it stops.

  • Can I Get A Replacement/New MacBook Pro Under AppleCare?

I have a refurbished, First Generation MacBook Pro. Don't ask how, but I've just recently begun to notice that it's suffering many of the problems the First Generations had including the heat problems, sometimes reaching 160-170 degrees Fahrenheit when doing simple web browsing with only Mail, iChat, and iTunes running in the background. Sometimes this happens even with only Firefox running. I'm also having the "whinning" problem.
    So my question is this....
Since I'm having these problems, will I be able to get a new/replacement MacBook Pro that isn't a First Gen under AppleCare? Or at least have something done to elliminate or at least reduce these problems?
    Message was edited by: MacFan1701

Regardless of anyone having any similar experience, the final determination will be up to Apple, and each situation is different.
So why not just take the necessary steps to get it looked at? If you would have contacted Apple by now you'd be well on your way to diagnosing the problem (hardware or software), and getting the repair/replacement process started if need be?
    What troubleshooting have you done?
