Problems w/ WRT 300N

Hello, I have been experiencing decreased connection strength through my WPC300N wireless notebook adapter using a WRT 300N wireless router. At boot-up, the signal strength will be low, with 100+Mbps as the speed. After a few minutes it drops to 54 Mbps, then 13 or 11 Mbps, then finally 2 and 1 Mbps, signal strength very low. The internet is as slow as molasses at this point. I am using windows XP with all service packs. I live in a two story house, with the router on the second floor. However, our old Wireless G router (can't remember the model, it didn't have any speed or range boost though) would get to the laptop where its at now. I thought a WRT300N would be better, but I am having this problem now. My laptop with a Wireless G card holds up at 54 Mpbs all the time. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks a bunch in advance.

No, the changes did not make a difference. Sorry for the long delay in response.  The signal is still dropping off very badly.  I am still having no problems connecting the WRT 300N off my really old laptop that is using an old Linksys Wireless G card. In fact, the other day I was downloading two programs at 100Kbps EACH!
BUT, the laptop using the Wireless N card is still slowing to a snails pace within 10 minutes of connecting to the Router.  I dont know what else to do, I am thinking of trying different locations for the router to see if I can get a more stable connection.  The 14 day return period has long since passed, so I have to find a way to make this work.  But as of now, I am still having problems.

  • Problem with Wireless settings in WRT 300N (V2)

    Greetings,
I've just managed to reset the WRT 300N to default settings and have setup the internet conncection etc and home network ... BUT no matter how I've fiddled with the wireless settings I cannot get any of the laptops or mobile phones to connect wirelessly to the network.
The Windows software on the laptops 'finds' the router OK but for some reason the router seems unwilling to supply an IP address.
I've checked ALL of the settings that I can think of, and all are correct ... well, all are exactly the same as my old router which worked perfectly.
It's something that I think muxt be to do with the security settings.
Can anyone offer any suggestions ??
    THanks

    Try the following steps:
    # Open up the browser and on the address bar type 192.168.1.1 that will open up the Router setup page.
    # Then Click on wireless Tab select, Wireless Network mode “Mixed”, Radio Band to 20 MHz only and Standard Channel to 1, 3, 6, 9, and 11. Click Save Settings.
#Adjust the following advanced wireless settings:
~~ Lower the beacon interval from 100 to 75
~~ Lower the fragmentation threshold from 2346 to 2306
~~ Lower the RTS threshold from 2347 to 2307
    Then check the status..

  • WRT 300N - WRT 600N

After all I received 4 linksys wireless router n series.
    2 WRT 300n
    2 WRT 600n
I decide to test those routers in LAB and then migrate our buisiness medium platform from G to N.
    Lets See what happened.
1- In open office env with 200 square meter I have weak signal at corner that reduce my bandwidth to 54 Mb/s(from 270 Mb/s).I test coverage area against WRT 54g and I get Incredible result.there is no more coverage except that you forget bandwidth because it Reduce it to 11 Mb/s.
2- I used Solarwinds Orion to get Throughput from this router and again I find a new incredible thing my dashboard show 150 Mb/s at 2 meters distance between my computer and router.
3- I decide to use site survey to plot a map of coverage area incredibly in close building area i see a circle with 10 meter in blue witch means I can use 270 Mb/s at this range only.
4- After All I tried to bridge two routers together I impact with a phenomena these routers series cant bridge together and there is no sign of option access point or bridge in web base console. But I read in Linksys catalog that this models are enhanced Access Points.
    5- After all problems with signaling,bandwidth,Bridging ...
I can only say that linksys produce a product with many weakness in hardware and software.

There is always a reality check between what marketing materials claim (a perfect test in their lab) and a real-world test. Having been on the vendor side for many years, I have seen this situation many of times.
Hopefully the speeds will be good enough for your deployment situation. What caught my eye was your mention of Solarwinds. I have been a long time user of Orion and the Engineering Toolset. Recently I came across PacketTrap Networks (www.packettrap.com) for scanning and diagnostic tools. They also have a monitoring dashboard that I have been using for my critical devices. It was the easiest dashboard to set up that I have experienced. To top it off, they have a free version - gotta love that price. www.packettrap.com/download. Good luck, I feel your pain.

I try admin admin then nothing and admin and admin and nothing but it does not work.  I am stuck again.  I did yesterday get to CISCO/linksys help and after a while they said that it was out o warranty in Jan of this year....

  • Wrt 300n wireless router

How can I connect an external antenna to my wrt 300N?

They should just unscrew ... but the middle on (the square one) is the external and the other 2 are the detachable. I wouldn't mess with that though.

  • WRT 300N signal problems.

Hi i have just installed a WRT300N wireless router into my house.
My Laptop is working fine, 100% signal from the router and all is well.
However, the PC in the garage (literally 10 meters away) is showing little to no signal.
I have used the WMP300N PCI router card inside the PC, in an attempt to make the signal better.
The program that came with the PCI card is showing 70-90% signal strength, but still the internet is choppy to say the least.
    Disconnecting and reconnection at random.
Any idea where my problem can be??
I have been assured that this router is more than enough for getting the signal over the space between the router and the PC.
    Please any help.
    Thanks in advance.

First of all, give your network a unique SSID. Do not use "linksys". If you are using "linksys" you may be trying to connect to your neighbor's router. Also set "SSID Broadcast" to "enabled". This will help your computer find and lock on to your router's signal.
Poor wireless connections are often caused by radio interference from other 2.4 GHz devices. This includes wireless phones, wireless baby monitors, Bluetooth (including Bluetooth game controllers), microwave ovens, wireless mice and keyboards, and your neighbor's wireless network. Even some 5+ GHz phones also use the 2.4 Ghz band. Unplug these devices, and see if that corrects your problem.
In your router, try a different channel. There are 11 channels in the 2.4 GHz band. Usually channel 1, 6, or 11 works best. Check out your neighbors, and see what channel they are using. Because the channels overlap one another, try to stay at least +5 or -5 channels from your strongest neighbors. For example, if you have a strong neighbor on channel 9, try any channel 1 through 4.
    Hope this helps.

  • WRT 300N V1 Question/Problem

During a recent power outage(Router is plugged into a Battery Backup) the connection failed.  I reset the modem and the router and it worked on my wired computer.  I'm having trouble with the wireless part of it coming back on.  I've reset(unplugged it for a minute) a few times and it still doesn't give off a wireless signal.
Laptop, Nintendo Wii and Wireless Printer all having the same problem as their is no network available.
    Any tips/suggestions?

As you are able to go online from your Hardwired computer, To make your wireless computers go on Wirelessly you need to change the wireless settings on your Router...
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...Leave Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
For Wireless Settings, please do the following : -
    Click on the Wireless tab
    - Here select manual configuration...Wireless Network mode should be mixed...
    - Provide a unique name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box in order to differentiate your network from your neighbours network...
    - Set the Radio Band to Standard-20MHz and change the Standard channel to 11-2.462GHz...Wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on Save Settings...
Please make a note of Wireless Network Name (SSID) as this is the Network Identifier...
    For Wireless Security : -
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
Change the Wireless security mode to WPA, For Encryption, select TKIP...For Passphrase input your desired WPA Key. For example , MySecretKey , This will serve as your network key whenever you connect to your wireless network. Do NOT give this key to anyone and remember the key.
NOTE : Passphrase should be more that 8 characters...
    Click on Advanced Wireless Settings
Change the Beacon Interval to 75 >>Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304, Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 >>Click on "Save Settings"...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...

  • Problems with WRT-320N

I recently left town for about a week and when I came back and attempted to stream media to my PS3, the performance was abysmal.  I restarted my media server but this did not fix things.  A reboot to the WRT-320N was necessary to restore performance.
Not exactly sure what the issue is, but would be happy to help someone debug this, as this is clearly a deficiency in the firmware that linksys provides.  I am running Firmware
    Version: 1.0.03 build 010 Jul 24, 2009
    thanks,
    asher

That sounds exaclty the same as my problem. Maybe you can try the tips in my topic about this? Until now those did not work for me, but I would very much want to know if they work for you.

  • Internet Connection Problem with WRT-54GL

Hi there Folks, I recently bought a Linksys AG-241 gateway and a WRT-54GL Wireless Router. The Gateway works seamlessly by itself through my laptop, but now that I have got all of the glitches worked out in the Intel Wireless card in my Dell Inspiron laptop and finally got the thing to work and receive a signal from the W/Router, I find I can't access the internet (or at least can't load any pages, once I'm past the set-up page). The Gateway has an IP addy of 192.168.1.1 and the Router has an IP address of 192.168.2.1. What on earth have I mucked up this time?. If you need any more info, please by all means ask. I was really stoked that the wireless card finally works, and now this has bought me back down to earth. Any help you guys can give me would be most gratefully recieved. Cheers, Mike.

hi try changing routers IP to 10.10.10.1, also try reducing MTU to 1452...check whether it makes any differnce or not.

  • WRT-300N - Worries about future compatibility and current network support

Is there a way that this new router can 'trick' networking software ( Network Magic et. al. ) into running with this router.
Seems that the Network Tools vendors are all gloom and doom about them
because the standard is likely to change in 2008.
This means to us that upgraded to the 300N that we can use anyones networking tools because they refuse to support them.
Is this 2008 gloom and doom scenario true ?
Did I make a big mistake and will need a new router in 2008 when released standard cards try to work with this router.
I really really miss my home network !!
    Steve

The highest I acheive is 270 and sometimes it does drop. I had a lot of tweaking to do especially with the antennas.

  • Problems with wrt 120n

    hi,
My pc is windows 7ultimate and my laptop is vista ultimate. the router is connecting fine to the pc. as i try to connect to the laptop it keeps saying unidentified network and local access only. i tired different things but nothing seems to work. it will work only when there is no password on the wireless.
    pls help.

As per the scenario you explained that while connecting the laptop wirelessly it keeps saying unidentified network and local access only.... You have to upgrade the latest firmware on the Router which can be downloaded from the CISCO website (homesupport.linksys.com).......So for better connectivity reset the Router and configure it again as per the ISP ( Internet Service Provider ) setup...
Then do the Wireless Settings as per your requirement.....As far as wireless channel is concern Radio Band as Standard 20 MHz only and Standard Channel to 6,9,11...Under Advanced Wireless Settings change Beacon Interval to 75, Fragmentation Threshold to 2306, RTS Threshold to 2307...
After doing all these settings power cycle the whole network again.....If there is any anti-virus or firewall disable them all as well...Certainly these settings will help you....

  • WRT 300N

    Hello,
The user guide of the WRT300N Wireless-N Broadband router tells to connect the router to the Ethernet cable of an ADSL modem.  Is it also possible to make this work by connecting a WRT300N Wireless-N Broadband router on a ADSL router ?
    Thank you in advance,
    Koen.

yes it is certainly possible to connect the WRT300N to the ADSL router...however , u need to set the modem in a bridge mode and set up the router in PPPoE mode....
or if the ADSL router's ip add is 192.168.1.x , change the ip add of the WRT300N to 192.168.2.x ...

  • WRT-300N Game port blocking & phone calls turn off the wireless.

Ok so, i have a game port its 6113-6119 And i still cant host a game i play WCIII TFT. And i did everythign to make it able to work but it doesnt. Also everytime soemoen calls my house phone the wirless goes down so i cahgned my router 5-2.4 from 1-2.4 and it still gets cut off with both...please i would love help!

Let me know if you connect the computer directly to modem are you able to host WCIII TFT?
Also tell me that did you triggered or forwarded the port numbers 6113-6119 on router?
For frequent disconnections in wireless connectivity try this setting on router:
    Radio Band – 40MHz
    Wide Channel – 6
    Standard Channel – 8
