Problems waking up from Sleep
Hi,
I have had my MBP for about six weeks now, and I have noticed a problem coming out of sleep for the past two weeks. Details below:
When I close the lid, the MBP goes to sleep as expected. Sometimes when I open the lid, I notice that the bluetooth mighty mouse has no response, although I see that the bluetooth icon in the menu shows it is connected. When I click "Turn Bluetooth Off", I get an infinite pinwheel spinning whenever I hover over the menu bar. If I close the lid to put the MBP back to sleep, it appears to go to sleep as expected -- but when I open the lid, the MBP appears dead and requires a hard reboot. After the reboot everything is peachy.
I would say that this has happened about a dozen times now (enough for me to post this question).
Does anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions?
TIA
I've had the same experience with several Macs, even back to using OS 8. This "comatose" condition is why I never "sleep" my desktop Macs & only sleep the laptops by closing the lid, never by choose sleep from the menu bar or allowing Energy Saver to put the Mac asleep. In System Preferences > Energy Saver I set the computer to never sleep, display to sleep after 15 minutes & hard drive(s) to sleep when possible. My screen saver comes on in 10 minutes.

Problem waking up from sleep after upgrading to Maverics
My Mac mini have a problem waking up from sleep.
I can see and move the mousepointer but the rest is black.
This problem started after upgrading to Maverics.
I have to restart to get back on track...
I have a 2.3Ghz Core i5 earley 2012 with 8GB RAM and a Samsung Syncmaster 226BW.That resembles > Login window partially appears, cursor movement redraws screen
Try the "Additional Information" steps in the article. -
I bought this new AIR in Hong Kong 10/10/2011; it has taken to being unresponsive when I try to wake it from sleep. When I try to find and move the cursor by moving my finger on the trackpad, I end up drawing thick grey lines which express the movements of my finger.
I tried to get APPLE HELP but as I registered my AIR in Hong Kong, I can only reach HK telephone support - and SINGAPORE is not listed on the page (only HK, USA, New Zealand, etc). The problem is I am in Singapore right now.
Can anyone help? Thank you. This Mac Pro is less than one week old so I shouldn't have tp reset the PRAM etc but I can give it a try.
By the way, here is the screenshot taken by my digital camera:
http://picasaweb.google.com/pse.no.spam/MacProDesktop/photo?authkey%3dJhw9Na8R6G axLfG9zUe92EA1AIs%234990364461229080594
It ONLY happens when it my Mac Pro goes to sleep for the first time. All subsequent sleeps are okay. I need to Shut Down my Mac Pro and boot it up again to reproduce the problem which will happen after the first sleep.
I can give rid of the lines simply by manually putting the Mac Pro back to sleep for a few seconds and waking it up.
Also it would appear that communications to the monitor gets reset after 10 seconds or so. (I see the DVI Icon appear on my Monitor). When that happens the lines disappear.
I also noticed that the lines will go away if I simply turn off my Dell 2407 WFP 24 inch widescreen LCD Monitor and Turn it back on. But I am not sure whether that is really fixing the problem or whether it would be fixed in any event simply by the passage of time as noted above.
Do you think it is my Monitor?
(i am using 1920x1200 resolution on a 24 inch Dell Widescreen Monitor)

Problems waking up from sleep mode
Recently my macbook pro has been having a lot of issues waking up. Probably 50 percent of the time the screen will stay black for about an extra minute after I hear the computer wake up, and just as often the mouse will lag really badly. The don't always happen together, I still have the mouse issue even if the screen turns on correctly. It doesn't matter if I use my mighty mouse or the touch pad they're equally effected and the only way to fix the mouse issue is to either restart my computer, or put it back to sleep and come back hours later (putting it to sleep then re waking it right away doesn't help) . Has anyone else had this happen to them or know of a way to fix it? thanks.
I just got finished talking in another thread about this issue, so I'll copy the information I gave in the other thread:
http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=6765992#6765992
One of the issues with the new Mac notebooks is something called SafeSleep. When you close the comptuer, SafeSleep which writes all the contents of the RAM to the hard drive before the machine actually goes to sleep. While it's doing this, it's recommended that you not move the machine, because this could corrupt the data being written or cause data to be written to an unintended location. The machine isn't actually prepared for transport until the light starts pulsating, and that typically takes about 30 seconds to a minute depending on RAM usage.
The problem with SafeSleep is that if data is being written to the hard drive when you close the screen, SafeSleep encounters an error that causes the machine to hang in sleep.
There is a UNIX command to disable SafeSleep, and this will allow your machine to go to sleep immediately when you close it. It should also reduce the chances that your machine will die in it's sleep, but consequently your machine will lose the ability to swap batteries and recover from where it left off, SafeSleep is what allows that. However, I don't swap batteries, so it's not really an issue for me. With SafeSleep disabled, the machine can be ready for transport in 2-3 seconds.
To do this command, you'll need to get into Terminal, Applications > Utilities > Terminal.
The Unix command to disable SafeSleep is:
+sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 0+
To re-enable SafeSleep, the command is:
+sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 3+
You'll then enter an admin password to authenticate the change.
This command has fixed my issues with the machine dying in it's sleep, hopefully it'll work for you guys. -
Problems waking up from sleep & also with auto shutdown
My Mac Mini is almost impossible to wake up once it is in sleep mode. Most of the time I have to hit the power button 15 to 20 times before it will wake up. That's problem number 1.
As a possible solution to problem number 1, I decided to use the scheduled shut down and wake up. I have set the darned thing about 10 times now (yes, saved it and locked it each time), and the settings are not saved in my Preferences. The shut down procedure has never happened after setting the preferences. That is problem number 2.
I have installed nothing on this computer - all applications are the standard Mac issue.
I had a similar problem with my 5 year old G4 Tower and hoped that this would have been fixed by now. Does anyone have any solutions?

Spinning beach ball waking up from sleep 10.5.5 upgrade
I recently upgraded from 10.5.0 to 10.5.5 on my Powerbook 1.25ghz and there is now a problem waking up from sleep. I get an infinite spinning beach ball that locks the system. This problem has only occurred since the upgrade. Please fix update!
Seems to be a problem with the hard drive. Ok prior to 10.5.2. Affected drive: Fujitsu MHV2100AT PL 100gb

My macbook runs extremely slow when logging in after waking up from sleep, locking up and I am unable to use the keyboard. Furthermore, when just using safari to watch streaming television, my computer gets really slow, and locks up, and the dock appears blank and I sit here frustrated. Anytime i wake up my computer, my keys don't respond and I've waited at most 3 minutes untill i can type in my password. Even sometimes when i type in my password and hit enter, it takes forever to open up my mac. I have barely used any storage in my macbook, since i only use it for college, and I have run clamscan wiht no viruses showing... Any ideas?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output andWi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test. -

Ethernet interface disappears after waking up from sleep
Hi guys,
I've been trying to debug a networking problem without any luck and I think it's about time I ask the forum for help.
My ethernet interface no longer works after I wake up my computer from sleep. I have no idea why.
Before sleep:
# ls /sys/class/net

After waking up from sleep,
ls /sys/class/net
lo wlp2s0
Here are the list of services I have running.

Furthermore, plugging in the ethernet cord after the computer has started doesn't connect to the internet, even when I have the ifplugd service running. I am forced to run:
sudo ip link set enp3s0f2 up
sudo dhcpcd enp3s0f2
However, I can't run these commands after the laptop wakes up from sleep since it no longer sees the ethernet interface.
I am thoroughly confused. Please help me.It seems to be fixed after the kernel update. On an related note, I've switched from using dhcpcd to netctl. I've enabled netctl to automatically connect to the network using:
# systemctl enable [email protected]
# systemctl enable [email protected]
So when I check for the status of the ethernet profile, I get told that's it's inactive.

But I turned off the wireless, so I must be connected to the ethernet, So how do I know which profile I'm connected to? -
Certain applications will not open after restart or waking up from sleep
My Macbook Pro running 10.9.2 won't open certain applications after restarting and sometimes after waking up from sleep. Google Chrome, Logic Pro X, Adobe Photoshop and Premiere seem to be the only progams affected. Firefox and Safari both work fine as well as many other applications. It seems to only affect programs that connect to the internet.
After a period of time the issue will resolve itself; sometimes after a few minutes and other times after several days. Then, these applications suddenly begin working again. I have also been having issues with my computer's ability to wake up. My best guess is that my computer isn't "fully waking up" upon restarts or when coming out of sleep mode. Both of these issues began around the same time and could be related. I've had both problems for several months through multiple software updates.
As far as troubleshooting goes I have done the following:
Safe Boot - (all programs work but are not effective due to lack of drivers being utilized in safe mode)
RAM/PRAM reset.
Disk Utility/Repair Permissions/Verify Disk
Any help or advice would be VERY appareciated.Robin,
It sounds like your MacBook is logging out when the computer goes to sleep if you are getting the login window, which will of course close all your programs.
In System Preferences >Security, uncheck "Log out after.....minutes of activity".
See if this stops it from doing that. -
Laptop waking up from sleep, then turning off
After I installed snow leapord the only major problem I came across was my computer waking up from sleep mode. Once it wakes up, its on for about 2 minutes then everything turns off. The weird thing is it looks like it goes back to sleep because the macbook pro light where you open the lid is still pulsing, like its trying to wake up. The keyboard lights are off, screen is off. I can hear the disk spinning also. Once it woke up to freeze and go back to sleep.
Is anyone else having this problem?
& it only happens when it comes back from closing the lid while the laptop is still on.Try resetting some of the hardware involved. See this Apple KB for details, etc.:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
Can't hurt to try, and apparently this has helped others recently. -
IMac hangs waking up from sleep mode, what can I do?
I have an iMac - early 2008, Inter Core 2 Duo, screenshots of full specs attached below.
I upgraded to Mountain Lion about 3 weeks ago. No problem until 2-3 days ago when the iMac started to 'hang' after waking up from sleep mode.
I'd try to launch Safari but the icon just bounces on the dock.
Force quitting all open apps, force quitting Finder. Still nothing.
Can't shut down unless I hold the power button down.
Then on restart it says something about an application that was previously unresponsive...try to reopen it or wait 50 seconds (or thereabouts) - I choose the latter option.
I've tried to do the usual verify/repair permissions and verify/repair disk. No problem found.
Incidentally, this has only been happening since 'upgrading' to iTunes 11. Coincidence?
Can someone help?Ok, I've done everything suggested above except for running the Disk Utility from the recovery partition, as I will have more time to spend on it tomorrow and that's something I'm too scared to try in a rush....!
I've made a screenshot of the energy saving settings changed to your suggestion, could you let me know if that's what you meant?
I really appreciate your help by the way -
Compaq C700 - CPU fan not running after waking up from Sleep mode
Hi guys,
Waking up from Sleep mode does not start the CPU fan.
Kernel: 2.6.32-ARCH
KDE : 4.4
Let me know what other details you need.I was having the same problem after installing mountain lion.
What i did was in Finder went to /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/ and deleted all the networking plists (refer screen shot). Then restarted the Mac and in Network Preferences reconnected to my WLAN.

Has anyone tried to connect external DVD/CD player or burner to the eSATA/USB combo port and experienced very slow system performance after waking up from sleep mode? It might takes minutes to launch an application program that usually takes just few seconds. My W510 can not even restart. It will just stop at the Thinkpad logo if I tried to restart after waking up from sleep.
The funny thing is if I moved the external DVD/CD player to the USB2.0 port in the back, everything went back to normal. I don't know if this has anything to do with the fact that the combo port has something to do with eSATA.
ThanksIt seems that this problem is unique to my system. I am hoping that one of the Mac Guru's will have at least a pointer in the right direction.

Hello,
My config is OSX 10.9.1 new macbook pro 13 retina (2014).
The wifi does not reconnect automatically when waking up from sleep mode since I have a Bluetooth apple magicmouse.
It was not the case before I bought the BT mouse.
Is this problem between Wifi and bluetooth coming from the OS?
Is there a fix already available or scheduled?
ThanksHello alexandrefromfrance
Check the Symptom: The network connection drops unexpectedly section for steps on what to do when your MacBook Pro does not connect after waking from sleep. I have also quoted the section on troubleshooting the issue as well.
Wi-Fi: How to troubleshoot Wi-Fi connectivity
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4628
Symptom: After restarting or waking from sleep, my computer might not connect to the Internet
After waking from sleep or starting up, your computer may not show that it is connected to a Wi-Fi network.
After start or wake, your computer may indicate that it is connected to a network, but does not connect to the Internet.
Solution
Use these steps if your computer does not automatically connect to your desired Wi-Fi network.
Check your TCP/IP settings in the Network pane of the System Preferences. Click the "Renew DHCP lease" button
Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu.
Choose Network from the View menu.
Select Wi-Fi, then click the Advanced button in the lower-left hand corner of the screen.
Click the TCP/IP tab from the top of the screen.
Click the "Renew DHCP lease" button.
Select the Wi-Fi tab and view your Preferred Networks list.
Select each network and click the minus sign to remove those networks from your Preferred Networks list.
Click OK and close the Network preferences.
Remove your stored network passwords using the Keychain Access Utility.
Open Keychain Access from /Applications/Utilities. Your window will look like this:
Remove your AirPort network passwords from the login keychain: Select the "login" keychain from the Keychain sidebar. Click the "Kind" column to order the list of keychain items by their type. Remove all entries of the kind: "AirPort network password".
Remove your AirPort network passwords from the System keychain: Select the "System" keychain from the Keychain sidebar. Click the "Kind" column to order the list of keychain items by their type. Remove all entries of the kind: "AirPort network password". Note: The above steps will remove your Wi-Fi network passwords. If you do not know them, or if your network does not use passwords to restrict access, you should contact your network administrator.
Restart your computer.
Join your Wi-Fi network. You will need to enter your password for your network again if it requires one.
